### "Literally the best AI transcription and note-taking you could ask for"

May 24, 2026

5.0

Overall I'm thrilled with Mentalyc. The quality is well worth the price. It literally pays for itself in the time it saves me.

Pros

Mentalyc saves me so much time that I can comfortably see more clients than I could otherwise. As a clinician I'm much better equipped from session to session; it's so simple to stay on top of even my most complex clients.

Cons

I wish I could bulk download transcripts or session notes. This is the largest single problem I have with Mentalyc; it really ought to be a feature.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Mentalyc

I chose Mentalyc due to its note-taking feature.

FireFlies.AI is great for general transcription purposes, but lacks the ability to automatically format insurance-compliant notes.

### "Worth the money!"

December 6, 2024

4.0

So far, despite some issues that have come up, I am really enjoying the program and definitely finding the value in it. Getting the additional 20% off during the Black Friday sale was pretty awesome.

Pros

The quality of the progress note and how much time it saves me to not have to write it myself.

Cons

Errors causing me to lose my recordings before the note can be written.

Alternatives considered

[Blueprint](https://www.capterra.com/p/118821/Blueprint/)

Reason for choosing Mentalyc

The reviews were better. One of my therapy-related subscribed YouTube channels reviewed several AI programs and Blueprint was not one of them.

No recording feature so still had to take notes, then enter them into program for the AI to rewrite. Not HIPAA compliant.

### "Do Better especially for the high price tag"

May 22, 2025

1.0

Poor. I emailed customer support when I first purchased the program and never received a response. I inquired why I didn’t receive the discount I entered when purchasing the program and I was charged the full amount.

Pros

The concept of dictating my session and writing clear and concise clinical style progress SOAP notes

Cons

That it freezes my computer after every single recording! The outrageous monthly price tag. I am an associate marriage and family therapist and get paid pennies but do majority of the work and I need a system like this the most but the cost is outrageous!

Response from Mentalyc

March 29, 2026

Hi Diana, Thank you for your feedback - we appreciate you highlighting both the value of the concept and the areas where your experience fell short. We’re sorry to hear about the freezing issues and your support experience. Performance and reliability are critical for clinicians, and we’ve made several improvements since then to enhance stability across recordings. On support, this is not the standard we aim for. We’d really like to look into your case and make things right - especially regarding your inquiry and pricing concerns. Please reach out to us at https://www.mentalyc.com/help-and-contact/feedback-and-suggestions so we can assist you directly. ### "Great option!"

September 6, 2024

5.0

In reviewing the captured notes, I find myself more aware of the therapeutic interventions that I am using and review with an additional perspective.

Pros

It's time saving, accurate, and is easy to use.

Cons

I can't upload the notes to Simple Practice, the need to be downloaded to my laptop and then uploaded to the client's chart.

### "I love this platform"

July 11, 2024

4.0

Overall, I love this program and I can see myself using it for years to come.

Pros

I love the fact that Mentalyc makes it easy to create and edit my clinical notes. The details that it picks up from uploading audio files and dictation are emaculant. I am normally extremely behind on notes or I was avoiding doing them all together. Since I began using Mentalyc, all of my notes have been completed in a timely manner.

Cons

I don't like the fact that I cannot combine 2 recordings or add a recording to my dictation. I am hoping this is a feature that they will update soon. I also don't like the sign-in process. With every other program on my computer, all I have to do is use my fingerprint, but with Mentalyc it's like signing in the first time every time. The sign-in process is not a deal breaker or nowhere near one.

### "Just do it!"

July 3, 2024

5.0

My overall experience has been that my note writing time has decreased significantly. The application is user friendly and easily adaptable to current practice.

Pros

I like that Mentalyc is user friendly and the notes have accurately reflected the session. I look forward to future offerings.

Cons

I dislike that Mentalyc is opened in a separate window. It would be great if it were an extension or an entire EHR.

### "Great program, but poor technology."

June 18, 2026

4.0

Good - def helps me. Improves the overall treatment and the patient experience of being organized. I do get frustrated with the technology not working.

Pros

It is very helpful for treatment planning out clearly outlining the treatment structure. Makes sure all your ideas are organized and clearly delineated.

Cons

The program is "glitchy" it makes mistakes, and I have trouble signing in at times (when clearly everything else is working perfectly on my computer, so its def the program itself).

### "Elated with Mentalyc"

March 25, 2025

5.0

My overall experience with Mentalyc has been phenomenal

Pros

The most helpful aspect of Mentalyc is that I am at least 30% more engaged with the patient because I am relieved of the burden of sketching notes and trying to remember what was said. The increased engagement allows me to probe deeper into the patient's emotions and challenges. Therefore, when Mentalyc processes the session data, there is an increased depth of knowledge of the patient's condition, resulting in better analysis and ultimately a more in-depth session. In session, I constantly adapt to the patient, and I tend to use different treatment modalities. Mentalyc tracks and reports my modalities and produces a rationale for the treatment method. I see this as being a valuable defense in the event of a peer review. In conclusion, my session note time has been reduced by approximately 30 to 40 hours per month.

Cons

My complaint is that once note generation commences, the data is lost if there is an interruption in processing. I recently experienced this when an update to my computer was presented, and there was no way to postpone the update, and my computer would be restarted. The source of the update was not given. Therefore, I prevented this unknown source from updating my computer by shutting it down. Unfortunately, after I restarted, the session note data was inaccessible.

### "User Friendly"

May 16, 2025

5.0

My overall experience has been excellent—the customer service is top-notch, and the platform itself is fantastic.

Pros

I love how user-friendly it is—everything’s easy to figure out, and it’s taken the stress out of note-taking for me. I don’t have to worry about staying organized anymore!

Cons

It can sometimes misinterpret what you write, so it’s always a good idea to review your notes. You can’t expect AI to be 100% accurate all the time.

### "Great relief as a young clinician!"

April 7, 2025

4.0

I absolutely love this tool. It's wonderful to utilize and I recommend it to fellow clinicians.

Pros

I love the ease of use, the quality of notes, and the user friendly interface! It's a wonderful relief to this clinician.

Cons

The treatment plans. They are lacking in the SMART aspect. They do not have quality statements that I would utilize in treatment with my client. Also, when dictating, it will sometimes mishear and put different statements down, however it's easily fixable.

### "Reasonably priced basic option"

December 8, 2023

4.0

Overall, it’s a reasonably priced option for AI transcription service for therapy sessions. The SOAP notes and intake notes are good formats.

Pros

Easy to use interface. Accurate transcription. Good Intake and SOAP note templates.

Cons

Primitive dashboard. Too many failed recordings and uploading of audio. It would be nice to have charting feature and sorting/filtering of patients. Still waiting for treatment plan feature.

### "Game changer!"

July 8, 2024

4.0

It has given me my life back and decreased my anxiety around having solid notes.

Pros

Mentalyc is so easy. It’s an incredibly simple platform that operates effortlessly, like having an unbiased secretary keeping notes in every session. Online sessions are recorded as video or audio as well. The program interprets specific interchange between client and therapist with clinical terminology and interventions. The entire dialogue is transcribed. The recording is then erased after 30 days I believe.

Cons

Using it on my phone caused some issues and the sessions wouldn’t upload. So I don’t use it on iPhone anymore.

### "Very Helpful "

October 8, 2023

4.0

Overall, Mentalyc has been extremely helpful in helping me be present for my clients while also getting information recorded for notes

Pros

I love that Mentalyc automatically puts my audio into a good note that makes my note keeping much easier. I don't have to write during sessions and can be more present.

Cons

I'd love to be able to change between note types, once you choose a note type you are stuck with that format unless you reupload and use another of your notes which are limited in number.

### "Very helpful now and even more promising for the future"

September 18, 2023

5.0

Pros

Mentalyc is very easy to start using. I am much less stressed about documentation and having to remember everything from my sessions. My notes are much more thorough and I feel much more confident about meeting insurance standards for documentation. It has also already enhanced my case conceptualization and awareness of assessments and interventions.

Cons

Mentalyc is constantly improving and adding more features soon that will help meet my needs. The company is addressing issues and making improvements on an ongoing basis. So I see having to deal with any minor flaws of the system or the time that I need to put in to edit notes as worth it in the long run. So currently I do have to spend some time editing most notes a little bit. It can take some time for a note to be generated, but I can do other tasks while it is working.

### "Awesome Program for Busy Clinicians"

October 10, 2023

5.0

Metalync has cut my charting time by two-thirds. Honestly, it writes better progress notes than I did!

Pros

I love Mentalyc's ability to accurately capture the essence of key aspects of a session and lay them out in a well organized, editable format. A feature I love is its ability to provide direct quotes to support what is presents for specific categories.

Cons

The thing I like least about Mentalyc is that it does not have someone to call with questions. It is very responsive to messages left with its chatbot.

### "Game Changer!"

March 20, 2023

5.0

Using Mentalyc has saved me so much time. This helps me be more present with my clients and have more time for continuing education.

Pros

I like that Mentalyc can capture what went on in a session with such accuracy and states it more eloquently than I would say it. It even picks up on therapeutic interventions that I did not think about being interventions used in session.

Cons

Some of the information within the note can be repetitive or placed in the incorrect section.

### "Good, Getting Better, Not Quite there but still better than all current options."

September 16, 2026

4.0

mostly positive, still frustrating, better than other's I have tried. Customization increases would make it better, not having to have separate charts for individual and family for the same client would be super helpful.

Pros

transfer to EHR is clumsy but has continually slowly improved. I have spent a large amount of time modifying forms to assist with this. I love that it creates treatment plans for me so I don't get a backlog of notes waiting to do this. Treatment planning could use some tweaks but is still far better than waiting for me to do it without this.

Cons

clumsy EHR transfer (but at least it exists), inability to change from individual notes to family notes within the same chart is one of the biggest barriers. Locked forms, only minor customization options can also be frustrating.

### "An Essential Part of My Clinical Workflow"

September 16, 2026

5.0

I love using Mentalyc in my practice. It helps me quickly organize session content and generate clear, concise progress notes, which has significantly reduced my administrative workload. Instead of spending hours on documentation, I can invest that time into preparing for sessions, developing client resources, and being more present in my work as a therapist. Mentalyc has helped me create a better balance between paperwork and client care, and I would gladly recommend it to other clinicians.

Pros

Mentalyc has been a game changer for my practice. It helps me efficiently track session content and create concise, well-organized progress notes without sacrificing quality. By reducing the time I spend on documentation, I have more time and energy to prepare individualized interventions, develop resources for my clients, and focus on delivering thoughtful, client-centered care. I highly recommend it to any clinician looking to streamline their workflow while maintaining strong clinical documentation.

Cons

I honestly haven't found a downside to using Mentalyc. It has consistently helped me stay on top of documentation while freeing up more time to focus on client care, treatment planning, and session preparation.

### "Accurate time saver."

September 15, 2026

5.0

It saves me several hours a week allowing me to have more time for clients and more time at home. This was definitely a game changer for my small practice.

Pros

Significant time savings overall on documentation. Provides good coverage of critical documentation categories making compliance with insurance a breeze. Note generation is relatively quick and accurate. It is easy to find/add/update client profiles. Customer support/IT has always been quick to respond to issues. The AI learns well and has adjusted to my style. This program has allowed me to increase daily client contact time allowing for more billable hours in my week.

Cons

As a prescriber, it does lack consistency with the medication portion of charting. But it has not been difficult to find workarounds.

### "Have enjoyed this as a clinical tool"

September 15, 2026

4.0

I have appreciated it as a tool to be a more effective, organized, and efficient therapist. It allows me to be more present in my sessions with clients.

Pros

The time savings it has helped me with. Also, as a new clinician with ADHD, seeing more "professional" writing has actually helped me better understand terminology.

Cons

some adjustments are difficult or simply not present. The session size dynamic should be more adjustable. Sometimes both parents are present for a child's session, sometimes neith are. the family and child labels don't allow for those shifts.

Pros

Good value. Trust product. Great customer service. Saves time. Easy to use. Keeps client info in order.

Cons
