### "Great program, but poor technology."

June 18, 2026

4.0

Good - def helps me. Improves the overall treatment and the patient experience of being organized. I do get frustrated with the technology not working.

Pros

It is very helpful for treatment planning out clearly outlining the treatment structure. Makes sure all your ideas are organized and clearly delineated.

Cons

The program is "glitchy" it makes mistakes, and I have trouble signing in at times (when clearly everything else is working perfectly on my computer, so its def the program itself).

### "Worth the money!"

December 6, 2024

4.0

So far, despite some issues that have come up, I am really enjoying the program and definitely finding the value in it. Getting the additional 20% off during the Black Friday sale was pretty awesome.

Pros

The quality of the progress note and how much time it saves me to not have to write it myself.

Cons

Errors causing me to lose my recordings before the note can be written.

Alternatives considered

[Blueprint](https://www.capterra.com/p/118821/Blueprint/)

Reason for choosing Mentalyc

The reviews were better. One of my therapy-related subscribed YouTube channels reviewed several AI programs and Blueprint was not one of them.

No recording feature so still had to take notes, then enter them into program for the AI to rewrite. Not HIPAA compliant.

### "Do Better especially for the high price tag"

May 22, 2025

1.0

Poor. I emailed customer support when I first purchased the program and never received a response. I inquired why I didn’t receive the discount I entered when purchasing the program and I was charged the full amount.

Pros

The concept of dictating my session and writing clear and concise clinical style progress SOAP notes

Cons

That it freezes my computer after every single recording! The outrageous monthly price tag. I am an associate marriage and family therapist and get paid pennies but do majority of the work and I need a system like this the most but the cost is outrageous!

March 29, 2026

Hi Diana, Thank you for your feedback - we appreciate you highlighting both the value of the concept and the areas where your experience fell short. We’re sorry to hear about the freezing issues and your support experience. Performance and reliability are critical for clinicians, and we’ve made several improvements since then to enhance stability across recordings. On support, this is not the standard we aim for. We’d really like to look into your case and make things right - especially regarding your inquiry and pricing concerns. Please reach out to us at https://www.mentalyc.com/help-and-contact/feedback-and-suggestions so we can assist you directly. ### "Literally the best AI transcription and note-taking you could ask for"

May 24, 2026

5.0

Overall I'm thrilled with Mentalyc. The quality is well worth the price. It literally pays for itself in the time it saves me.

Pros

Mentalyc saves me so much time that I can comfortably see more clients than I could otherwise. As a clinician I'm much better equipped from session to session; it's so simple to stay on top of even my most complex clients.

Cons

I wish I could bulk download transcripts or session notes. This is the largest single problem I have with Mentalyc; it really ought to be a feature.

### "Great option!"

In reviewing the captured notes, I find myself more aware of the therapeutic interventions that I am using and review with an additional perspective.

Pros

It's time saving, accurate, and is easy to use.

Cons

I can't upload the notes to Simple Practice, the need to be downloaded to my laptop and then uploaded to the client's chart.

### "Should have done more research before I subscribed."

November 17, 2024

1.0

Terrible and frustrating. I haven't been able to use this program since I subscribed two weeks ago. Support is virtually non-existent. The instructions are have been unhelpful.

Pros

Nothing yet. I find this program very user unfriendly. I haven't been able to use it since I subscribed two weeks ago.

Cons

I find the instructions complicated and unhelpful. For instance, when I try to record a session the instructions show a screen that looks nothing like my screen. It says to click on the Chrome tab which doesn't exist on my screen. When I try to get help I just get the same instructions again. Support is virtually non-existent. Plus, it's far more expensive than other programs I've looked at. I'm very sorry I paid for a year's subscription. There is a no refund policy.

### "Elated with Mentalyc"

March 25, 2025

5.0

My overall experience with Mentalyc has been phenomenal

Pros

The most helpful aspect of Mentalyc is that I am at least 30% more engaged with the patient because I am relieved of the burden of sketching notes and trying to remember what was said. The increased engagement allows me to probe deeper into the patient's emotions and challenges. Therefore, when Mentalyc processes the session data, there is an increased depth of knowledge of the patient's condition, resulting in better analysis and ultimately a more in-depth session. In session, I constantly adapt to the patient, and I tend to use different treatment modalities. Mentalyc tracks and reports my modalities and produces a rationale for the treatment method. I see this as being a valuable defense in the event of a peer review. In conclusion, my session note time has been reduced by approximately 30 to 40 hours per month.

Cons

My complaint is that once note generation commences, the data is lost if there is an interruption in processing. I recently experienced this when an update to my computer was presented, and there was no way to postpone the update, and my computer would be restarted. The source of the update was not given. Therefore, I prevented this unknown source from updating my computer by shutting it down. Unfortunately, after I restarted, the session note data was inaccessible.

### "User Friendly"

May 16, 2025

5.0

My overall experience has been excellent—the customer service is top-notch, and the platform itself is fantastic.

Pros

I love how user-friendly it is—everything’s easy to figure out, and it’s taken the stress out of note-taking for me. I don’t have to worry about staying organized anymore!

Cons

It can sometimes misinterpret what you write, so it’s always a good idea to review your notes. You can’t expect AI to be 100% accurate all the time.

### "Great relief as a young clinician!"

April 7, 2025

4.0

I absolutely love this tool. It's wonderful to utilize and I recommend it to fellow clinicians.

Pros

I love the ease of use, the quality of notes, and the user friendly interface! It's a wonderful relief to this clinician.

Cons

The treatment plans. They are lacking in the SMART aspect. They do not have quality statements that I would utilize in treatment with my client. Also, when dictating, it will sometimes mishear and put different statements down, however it's easily fixable.

### "My favorite specialized note-taking assistant"

December 3, 2024

5.0

Love it, easy to use and high quality notes that are what I would have typed on my own it just would have taken me double the time.

Pros

Easy to use, great notes which save me documentation time, protect the client, provide medical necessity, and love the client note so the client can remember what was discussed, goals, and accomplishments in therapy.

Cons

I would love it to be an all inclusive EHR so I don't have to have multiple platforms.

### "Sanity Saver"

December 4, 2023

5.0

For years I have wished and prayed for someone who could just "write my notes for me." I struggled so with getting paperwork done in a timely manner. Mentalyc has saved my professional sanity, and has freed up so much time and energy for myself! The stress I experience regarding getting notes and paperwork completed has historically been so high. It is such a relief to have a tool like this to help reduce that stress.

Pros

I love that Mentalyc helps me get all of my notes done in a timely manner. This is something that I have struggled with throughout my 18+year career. Mentalyc helps me to: \*be timely with my paperwork \* have a higher accuracy with my paperwork \* have more professional-looking notes \* stay within compliance with regulating powers \* document medical necessity

Cons

There are times when Mentalyc is not accurate with what was actually happening during session; it happens rarely, but still happens. However, that is why we proof the notes. Also, it would be great if I could upload multiple notes more quickly.

### "Reasonably priced basic option"

December 8, 2023

4.0

Overall, it’s a reasonably priced option for AI transcription service for therapy sessions. The SOAP notes and intake notes are good formats.

Pros

Easy to use interface. Accurate transcription. Good Intake and SOAP note templates.

Cons

Primitive dashboard. Too many failed recordings and uploading of audio. It would be nice to have charting feature and sorting/filtering of patients. Still waiting for treatment plan feature.

### "Game changer!"

July 8, 2024

4.0

It has given me my life back and decreased my anxiety around having solid notes.

Pros

Mentalyc is so easy. It’s an incredibly simple platform that operates effortlessly, like having an unbiased secretary keeping notes in every session. Online sessions are recorded as video or audio as well. The program interprets specific interchange between client and therapist with clinical terminology and interventions. The entire dialogue is transcribed. The recording is then erased after 30 days I believe.

Cons

Using it on my phone caused some issues and the sessions wouldn’t upload. So I don’t use it on iPhone anymore.

### "Very Helpful "

October 8, 2023

4.0

Overall, Mentalyc has been extremely helpful in helping me be present for my clients while also getting information recorded for notes

Pros

I love that Mentalyc automatically puts my audio into a good note that makes my note keeping much easier. I don't have to write during sessions and can be more present.

Cons

I'd love to be able to change between note types, once you choose a note type you are stuck with that format unless you reupload and use another of your notes which are limited in number.

### "Game Changer"

October 9, 2023

4.0

Mentalyc has helped me deal with the burden of notes in a full-time insurance-based private practice. I have more time to spend with my family and do other things that are important for my business. Thank you Mentalyc!

Pros

This product is super easy to use and has saved me hours of administrative work each week.

Cons

I think the AI could be slightly better as far as what it picks up on but overall I am very satisfied with this product and how it focuses on making sure notes are compliant with what insurance companies are looking for.

Reason for choosing Mentalyc

Cost was significantly lower and there were more options for different types of notes offered by Mentalyc.

### "Game Changer!"

March 20, 2023

5.0

Using Mentalyc has saved me so much time. This helps me be more present with my clients and have more time for continuing education.

Pros

I like that Mentalyc can capture what went on in a session with such accuracy and states it more eloquently than I would say it. It even picks up on therapeutic interventions that I did not think about being interventions used in session.

Cons

Some of the information within the note can be repetitive or placed in the incorrect section.

### "Captures interventions accurately"

October 19, 2024

4.0

Overall, mentalyc saves me time, captures my interventions better than i am usually able to articulate it and allows me to keep focusing on my process with the client rather than spending considerable time figuring out how to perfectly fit the session information into a SOAP or DAP format.

Pros

It accurately captures the therapist's therapeutic interventions in conversation without the therapist needing to call them out or use acronyms. Mentalyc pulls out supporting quotes to support the client's chief complaint and their progress. Mentalyc's output format gives indications of other interventions that typically align with the chief complaint such as the need to consider utilizing an assessment or provide a referral.

Cons

That the output/note is not put together in organic conversational paragraph-like format. Though it feels a bit inconvenient, it encourages the provider to read the output and pull out what is necessary making it less likely to copy and paste without reading.

### "Best AI for counseling I have found"

November 20, 2024

5.0

I am excited to have access to it and to have such an amazing time saving device for my practice. I have tried other AI programs for session notes and find this to be more accurate and clinically appropriate. I have already recommended it to colleagues.

Pros

The quality and detail of the notes, the way they are organized, the choice of styles and the time it saves me! I think I save roughly 30 minutes per session note and maybe an hour for intakes!

Cons

I think SOAP notes should be available in the Mini plan for those of us with small caseloads.

### "A nearly perfect solution for a busy clinician"

August 14, 2023

4.0

I have ultimately been incredibly blessed by Mentalyc as a productivity tool - evidenced by the fact that I have never been more busy with a full caseload as a clinician AND I have never been more on top of my therapy notes than now. I would recommend Mentalyc to any clinician looking to reclaim a large chunk of their time for self-care and decompression by spending less time figuring out how to express themselves in their therapy notes. Because the product is still young, I have faith that the hitches and kinks in their system are likely to be worked out with time and that the quality of the product will only continue to improve. I definitely plan to stick with Mentalyc as a lifetime user!

Pros

The ability to upload recordings of either the sessions themselves (or to upload a quick <5 minute recording of my general thoughts about the session) and let the AI scribe do the grunt work of expressing and organizing the major themes of the session has been life changing for me. Before, I had to spend several hours of my week - both in the office and even at home during what otherwise would've been my personal time with my family - just trying to catch up on my notes and figure out how to express what happened in session in an accurate, but succinct manner. As I'm sure you can see by my review, I struggle with succinct. Mentalyc has helped me reclaim my time by reducing the energy spent in trying to figure out how to express myself, keep it succinct, and keep it accurate by using the recordings of the sessions to create already very high quality and clinically accurate notes that I only need to make a few edits to! I believe it has reduced my mental load and made it much easier to focus on my clients needs. I think this will definitely help stave off compassion fatigue and burnout- which alone is worth the $70/month, in my humble opinion! Setup is easy, uploading is easy, and editing is easy. Integrating the product into my practice is effortless, since all I have to do is just copy-paste what I've already edited into the text field of my EHR.

Cons

The only things I have any real gripe about are the very occasional server instabilities - which is to be expected for a relatively young startup - and what I interpreted as an evident lack of support. Several times over the last month or so of my trying this program out, I submitted basic questions (which I ultimately figured out on my own) through the chat support and email support, but never received any response back. Today, I finally managed to reach the \[sensitive content hidden\] of Mentalyc through the live chat feature and she was VERY responsive and helpful to me in spite of my initial unprofessionalism (a moment of weakness and self-indulgence when I thought I was only talking to a bot responder). I learned that the support team is a skeleton crew that is likely overwhelmed by the amount of support required for their customers - not realizing how popular the app would grow in such a short amount of time. While the support situation is still largely unsatisfactory due to systemic bugs seemingly blocking support requests from being received by the support team, the fact that a support team DOES exist and DOES respond when they receive requests has alleviated some of the frustration and anxiety I have had about future support needs.
