FigJam Reviews
Pros
FigJam is best when used alongside Figma, of course. The perfect integration between designs and prototypes and whiteboards makes for a seamless end-to-end process toolset.
It also has a great community where you can find great templates for canvasses and frameworks. It helped us a lot with doing team workshops.
I love that FigJam is versatile as a product, even for someone like me who isn't directly involved in UX design. As a 3D artist, I still need tools to help me organize my ideas and problem-solve.
I love the fact that I could work with a group of people on the same project while using figjam, i haven't found other collaborative tools like this, but its really great.
Cons
The lack of advanced version control and history tracking can be a pain point when trying to revert to previous iterations of our designs.
The cursor chat feature can be a little annoying at times, especially during large discussion sessions.
I'm still missing some functionalities that other competitors might have.
There is no offline version, so if you don't have internet connection, you will not be able to work on any updates.
"FigJam is an awesome digital whiteboard for users of Figma"
Overall: Designing features for an existing large product, from beginning to end in Figma - from discovery and analysis (using FigJam as a repository), through concepting to design iterations and prototyping, all in Figma. FigJam was a flexible repository for all reference materials and artifacts throughout.
Pros: FigJam is best when used alongside Figma, of course. The perfect integration between designs and prototypes and whiteboards makes for a seamless end-to-end process toolset.
Cons: FigJam is less attractive to teams that are not using Figma. In that case, other tools are more mature and powerful (though FigJam is growing on a consistent basis.)
"FigJam - The sweet sauce of Figma - intuitive, capable, and flexible! "
Overall: FigJam has been helpful to me when sketching out rough wireframes, meting out ideas and concepts, as well as creating flowcharts, diagrams, and site maps. The software is both extremely intuitive and beautifully detailed as well as capable. It also has a steep learning curve for beginners but offers a great support base thanks to the Figma community (where users can ask questions, offer tips, and share file/templates and feedback to fellow users.
Pros: FigJam, a feature and product of Figma is an ingenious and indispensable tool when it comes to UX/UI design and development. I find it to be more intuitive that Adobe XD, yet in some ways similar to Adobe Illustrator. Both FigJam and Figma allow me to focus on my passion - graphic design - while also creating innovative and fulfilling experiences without writing a single line of code. The software does all the heavy lifting for me but also has the option for me or any collaborator I'm working with to step in and add code, if needed.
Cons: The most frustrating thing about FigJam and Figma is the clunky file/project management system. The software insists on dividing my work into groups (workgroups) even though I am a team of one. And, because I am a student, my account is limited unless I'm willing to ante up the full subscription price. Pricewise, Figma/FigJam is a huge investment - moreso than the whole Adobe Creative Suite combined. Yet, the capability of the software outweighs its competitor. I wish that the software was at a lower price point for those just getting started and are not part of a large team situation. Tiered subscription options should be offered with the ability to add-on alacarte features/smaller packages. Doing so would allow Figma customers to customize their experience and optimize their loyalty because the flexibility offered would engender good faith and support.
"Creative and easy to use digital whiteboard"
Pros: Figjam has made working in teams seamless because information can be easily presented to everyone. Most people in the world are visual learners, so having a tool like this helps to understand the work between different teams better. In our company, we use Figjam to design interfaces, ideate and collaborate. Instead of using a physical whiteboard where information gets deleted, we can present our diagrams on Figjam and store it permanently. Figjam has become an integral part of our working methodology. The ease of scrolling, zooming and exporting information is seamless and therefore I consider it better than its alternatives.
Cons: I would like to have better use of Tables in Figjam. Currently, the tables are very simplistic. It would be interesting to have more functions within each 'cell' of a table. Kind of like excel, or maybe some form of integration with it.
"First in class"
Overall: Despite these minor drawbacks, FigJam has truly transformed the way our design team ideates, sketches, and iterates on designs together. The cross-platform availability and tight integration with the broader design ecosystem have further enhanced our creative workflow, making FigJam a must-have for any team looking to elevate their collaborative design process. If you haven't already, I encourage you to give FigJam a try – it just might change the way you approach design collaboration.
Pros: As a design lead, I've had the pleasure of extensively using FigJam over the past year, and I can confidently say that it has become an indispensable tool in our design arsenal. FigJam's seamless collaboration capabilities are a game-changer, allowing multiple team members to work on the same whiteboard in real-time. The intuitive interface and wide range of tools, from sticky notes and shapes to freehand drawing and text, make it easy for our team to dive in and start leveraging the full potential of the platform. The robust plugin ecosystem has also been a significant advantage, enabling us to integrate a variety of third-party tools that seamlessly extend the capabilities of the platform.
Cons: While FigJam has been an incredibly valuable addition to our design workflow, there are a few areas where I believe the tool could be improved. The lack of advanced version control and history tracking can be a pain point when trying to revert to previous iterations of our designs. Additionally, the inability to directly import assets from other design tools, such as Sketch or Adobe XD, can be a hindrance to our cross-platform design process.
"A simple tool for whiteboarding sessions or workshops"
Overall: FigJam is very useful and intuitive online collaboration tool. Although it's a very new product as compared to other competitors in market, but it's 'simplicity' makes it stand out from the rest.
Pros: I use FigJam for product ideation or brainstorming sessions with my team. I also use it to build basic workflows or task flows for client reviews. The UI is very clean and simple. I love that multiple stakeholders and team members can work on FigJam board simultaneously without any lag. Whenever I need to discuss any product idea with business stakeholders or clients (who are not tech savvy), this is my go-to tool, as it is very easy for them to understand and use.
Cons: There is no offline version, so if you don't have internet connection, you will not be able to work on any updates. And it doesn't have lot of rich functionalities like Miro.
