Comments: Overall, nice evolution of the software

Pros: Ease of navigation, customizable reporting, effective help menu system. Adjustable to individual user in the settings and screen layouts.

Cons: Occasional crashes, if it locks up, you have to re-log in, and via the log in, exit the program that just crashed, then reinitialize.

Grateful!

Comments: A very good product. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a flexible system.

Pros: As a small non-profit, we were looking for software to help streamline our data collection and reporting; one which focuses on client management and tracking. When we were introduced to ACS, they were a God-send. It was a flexible system that provided numerous options. We were able to manage our client intake much more easily than in the past. Overall, we found them to be a great fit for our organization.

Cons: Once you understand the main parts, the system works well, however, more integration is needed. Usually, the help-desk representative was very prompt with their answers to questions. There were so many features that we didn't get to learn them all.

It is like working on Windows 15 years ago.

Pros: It does do everything you need for church accounting. The support is very good. The training materials are extensive. The trainers and very good and usually very helpful.

Cons: It is cumbersome, very slow to use (with many extra steps for every task), not intuitive and and very outdated. Some of the training material goes back to 2003, and looks exactly the same. There are extensive training materials, but they are most often so basic they do not answer anything besides basic questions.

ACS is an okay program I feel it is very outdated and needs some major updated to be compatible.

Pros: Navigation with this software is quite easy to use, I enjoy the ability to search for my contacts easily, but once again it is slow and outdated and could definitely use a face lift.

Cons: As stated before in my previous comments above, ACS needs to be updated to reflect more modern graphics, and accessibility. I think it would be wonderful to have an app that links to your phone.

ACS is a must have software for churches.

Pros: The best part about this software is the search ability to locate information. While it takes some time to become familiar with how the searches work, you can pretty much find what you are looking for as long as the data has been imputed correctly. For example, you can locate a certain phone number. However, you still need to know how the phone number was classified when it was entered into the software.

Cons: The part I like least about this software is the difficulty of merging documents for mass mail out. There are many steps and takes some time to master this process. It would be great to simply this process.

Overall: Helps keep up with membership info and tracking.

Pros: simple to use, but a lot of capability. Easy to keep track of giving and make reports for unpaid tuitions.

Cons: difficult to use for a school when students drop or change classes after making payments. Wish there was a way to connect to another software to automatically load registrations.

Pros: System is very user friendly, able to house all information regarding visitors and members. The software also keeps tract of donations from our church members.

Cons: Wish the additional fields would be all on the first profile screen. For example it wants you to list the family member status, which is similar to profile screen.

ACS provides a simple yet very functional service system for updating our records. Love it!

Pros: Very easy to use. Already has the buttons set up for the least time consuming entries. Can easily add family members.

Cons: Only that it does take some searching to find out how to correct a mistake or undo wrongly entered information.

Overall: Record keeping, updating addresses, phone numbers, etc. sending email newsletters, running statistics.

Reporting is not that easy, especially setting up for year end statements.

Pros: Lots of fields available, good access for members. Info seems to be reliable if entered properly. Easy to fix mistakes.

Cons: Setting up reports is not very intuitive and is hard to customize. Not enough directions within the product to guide you.

Overall: Membership interface capabilities. Good product and better than what we had, but I didn't get much training. When we have used customer service/support it has always been good. I am part time, so do not have lots of time to waste trying to figure things out and dealing with customer service.

Pros: The transition from Servant Keeper to ACS was smooth. The onboarding team and the customer service reps are easy to work with and try to be as helpful as possible. The Church Life app is great, and has been a blessing to our church members.

Cons: Working through a separate "portal" is a total pain. The software seems like it's not advancing with the times, and I would much prefer a true "cloud" based system. We are often "kicked off" the portal and have to log in again. We also have difficulty with AccessACS, because it can only be accessed by a Windows based browser (and we all use Mac computers). It's a bit of a hassle to access AccessACS through a separate browser to do the needed uploading tasks and helping our folks with their passwords and such. Finally, they really haven't updated much in the software. It's stagnant, and I see some areas where we may want to explore more modern technology.

Overall: We can keep track of our members and visitors and keep good records for visitation.

Comments: I was new to my position at a church and ACS was the program we had in use when I started. It was a great program and was easy to learn with very minimal training.

Pros: Organizes a lot of information for you church members and also can keep track of the contribution side of your ministry.

Cons: The look and some functions are a bit outdated. They are constantly doing updates and the cost is a bit expensive.

Pros: ACS does everything and more than what we need. Customer support is excellent. Cloud based for remote access is very helpful to work from home or office.

Cons: ACS is not intuitive at all. It has been around for decades and often feels like it is old software with a lot of patches to make it work with new ideas. Customer support is great, but you shouldn't need it frequently. We spent a full week training our staff on ACS and the modules we have added. It seems like we frequently get "kicked off" and have to log back in to keep using the software.

Comments: Church has been with ACS for over 16 years, have grown with the changes. Currently running on our own server, with workstation versions on desktops, and kiosk on check in stations. Software performs most task needed for basic church management. Ability to use Dymo label writers and touch screen computers for check-in was a huge improvement. No real work flows or process flows with automated steps.

Comments: As a Children's minister at a small church I need check-in solutions that don't break the bank and are easy-to-use. That's not ACS. Reports are challenging to receive. The secretaries at my last employer in Mesquite hated it for being confusing. My current employer uses ACS but I don't see the benefit of it. If I had a vote, I'd tell them to switch.

Pros: Customization. Online based. Does yearly Parochial Report and sends it to National Church. Parochial Report can be printed daily, weekly, monthly....as many times as you wish for internal reporting to Vestry or Rector. Access to training.

Cons: It can be pricey for smaller parishes/churches. Realm (for smaller parihes) is still young and needs tweaking. When you are used to the fuller ACS version, Realm can be a bit frustrating. Realm only recently had General Ledger talking to the Financial module.

Overall: I have used ACS for 16 years from DOS to Windows to Online based. Online was an awesome expansion! There was never down time (except for middle of the night maintenance) and it was always fast. Backups were never a worry. Customer Service was friendly, extremely helpful and patient. On site training was available at extra cost.

Recommendations to other buyers: Ask your parish administrator or church secretary if she has any previous church software experience and listen to her. She will be the person using the software more than volunteers or other non-office personnel.

Pros: ACS has just about everything you could ask for, and then some. Their pricing is more competitive than other major companies.

Cons: Although there is an online arm of this product, all the information must be kept locally (although some would think this a pro). The controls are non-intuitive and clunky. Even the online version of this has the look and feel of something just above MS Dos.

Overall: We have used some form of ACS since 2005. It handles finances, child check-in, event scheduling, volunteer scheduling, attendance, groups, contact information, and much more. It even has an online arm.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you're looking for ease of use, steer clear. The price makes it tempting, but other products are worth the money.

Pros: Pretty easy to use

Cons: No easy way to input contributions

Overall: We have been using ACS for awhile now and recently switched to ACS on Demand. Our experience has been positive overall and I think that ACS offers a great product. My major complaint with ACS is that with a church our size, there is no easy way to input contributions. We have staff who have to manually input each person's contribution and it takes a lot of time. Otherwise, ACS is perfect for us.

Pros: Love the customer service! They are great about working with you on issues. It's rare that they cannot solve a problem.

Cons: Not as intuitive as I'd like, but still fairly easy to use once you get used to it.

Recommendations to other buyers: Don't hesitate to call customer service if you have a question or you've made a mistake in your software. They are the kindest and most knowledgeable of any customer service I've ever had to deal with.

Overall: Our church is medium sized. We love the Flex Contribution Forms and it's layout. Customer service is spot-on. I agree with all other users who have reviewed. Ease of use, love the People and Financial Modules with its reports which we own. Don't know much about REALM but I think we would be interested. What would seal the deal is the reporting for my Boards and administrators.

Pros: The biggest pro is ACS' support team. They will capably answer almost any question about how to use the database when you get stuck, and will remain friendly, patient and helpful throughout the call. A+

Cons: The thing I dislike most is the "look and feel" of the user experience. It just isn't pretty.

Overall: ACS OnDemand church database is not incredibly pretty or user-friendly, but it is very capable software for mid- to large-sized churches to choose.

Recommendations to other buyers: Our church is upgrading from ACS OnDemand to their new Realm database. It looks to be both capable and user-friendly.

Pros: 1. The customer support!!!! If I can't figure out how to do something, there are so many ways to get help: Phone calls to a live person that walks me through things step-by-step, webinars, other ACS users in different online communities, etc.
2. The flexibility of the product and how it's grown...and continues to grow...to meet our needs.

Cons: The volunteer management piece isn't as directly integrated as we would like.

Overall: We are a non-denom multi-site church in the DC suburbs (predominantly African-American) with apx 4000 in weekly attendance and 10,000 watching services online. We chose ACS software over the competition because it was robust enough to meet our needs. And like most churches...our needs are varied and nuanced.

Recommendations to other buyers: My advice= talk to actual users to see how we/they are using the product. That information is invaluable.

Comments: PROS - The best thing would have to be the company and the incredible employees that make up this company. The customer service and desire on behalf of the employees to help you accomplish your goals is superb! The products reflect the needs of and input from the end users. Products have changed over the years as churches changed how they do church. The company is incredibly responsive to customers needs and requests. The support staff is patient and always polite - AND they resolve your issue or explain/teach/show you how to do what you want to do.

The introduction of their next generation software - REALM - is the answer we've been looking for. It integrates the best of every product they have into an updated platform that is intuitive. And ACS is literally attacking full force the development of this product to help their customers do ministry effectively.

CONS - It is not the most intuitive software, but that is due to the tremendous functionality that has been built into a product that many churches"don't want to change." Some customers want their software to stay the same, others want new functionality and updates - ACS has managed to be responsive to both ends of the spectrum.

Comments: In my role of Ministry Services Director, this software provides a variety of functions to facilitate and disseminate the work of the ministry before us. As a denominational office, communication at times can be taxing but ACS offers many options to get the job done while bringing a "closeness" to those that work alongside our office. Although there are many default settings built in there are even more user-defined settings that can be tailored to suit an organization. Above all else, the customer support is stellar. There is none like ACS!

I recommend!

Comments: ACS has outstanding customer service. The online knowledge base is deep and thorough, but calls to customer support are answered quickly, professionally, and thoroughly.

The software is easy to use, but requires thought to make your own database standards.

I've worked in churches for over 20 years using different software packages but this is by fare my favorite.

It's a great database!

Comments: I've been using ACS OnDemand products for a year now, and wasn't all that happy with what I've seen. Going to the conference helped, and learning more about the programs directly made some improvements. I don't like the user interface, and how separate all the components seem to be. It often feels like the various parts aren't 'talking' to each other and the user has to be a guru to make it all work.

It's very capable software, once you know what you're doing. I don't like that the training tutorials are a separate annual fee (some instructions are available at no cost, but they aren't terribly comprehensive). It doesn't make the learning easier.

Overall, it's solid, but not user friendly. I've heard some of their newer items are going to be much better, but they aren't developed to the point where it would be effective for my organization to move to them. Choose your products wisely.

This software is easy to use and does so much to help me keep up with the members of our church.

Comments: This is a powerful database. We cleaned up our data files before our import of the data into The City. The ability to have these two programs communicate with one another and to input the data only once is very necessary. Input of profile info by individual users is also helpful unless, of course, the user does not update information and then is disconnected and church may be unaware of this disconnect. We have been proactive to survey users to re-establish and maintain connection and up-to-date data.

Pros: As a small nonprofit, we have used ACS General Ledger, People, and Contributions for over 15 years. What I like best is that it is an affordable, integrated, double-entry accounting system designed specifically for churches and small non-profit organizations. The People and Contributions modules allow us to easily monitor pledges, acknowledge donations, summarize gifts by fund, and report on subsets of our donor base using criteria we choose. The General Ledger offers the custom budget-actual reports and statement of financial position (non-profit balance sheet), as well as the summary of restricted accounts that is not found in typical for-profit packages. ACS also allows your administrator to set specific user permissions customization, so you can limit each user to only the functions that he or she needs. Vendor support is key, and we have found the vendor support behind ACS to be very solid. The software does not do everything, but what it does it does well. When we have had problems or questions, ACS technical support has pro-actively worked them out. In most support sessions, the ACS rep is temporarily granted remote control of our local computers and works directly with our data and reports. Support reps are readily available when we call, and they are very knowledgeable of the product.

Cons: Overall, we like ACS. I don't have a lot of criticism. The addition of a functional expense statement would be very helpful, since this is the format used by the IRS on Form 990 (required of most 403(b) organizations but not for most churches). Direct delivery of GL reports by email would also be helpful, but printing to pdf and emailing is not terribly difficult. As our number of donor records and years of data have grown, I have found the software to slow down somewhat, particularly when running custom extracts of donor data.

Recommendations to other buyers: Consider the reporting requirements for each set of constituents - board of directors, deacons, management teams, donors. Be sure that the software will produce these reports easily and without errors. Test drive it. Find a software that is specifically designed for your organization type. ACS is designed for churches; we have been able to make it work well for us as a small non-profit, but many of the donor analysis features were specifically designed to track church giving and are not necessarily applicable to us. Still, we have found ACS much better adapted to our needs than a for-profit software and much more affordable than the leading non-profit packages.

Comments: I do bookkeeping for 7 churches at present; have done as many as 8. All use ACS. None are mega churches, so I can't review for that size church. Some have Realm for their people software, some have OnDemand, one has ACS Desktop. The efficiency of this software makes it possible for me to handle the finances of these churches. I have had great experience with the tech support dept. They've been knowledgeable, courteous and professional. ACS is my software of choice.

Pros: ACS has a lot of features, and customizable fields, etc. Great customer service for problems (for additional fee per month).

Cons: Updates come out very slowly, and the product feels at least 5-10 years out of date. Reports are not very customizable unless you purchase additional module. Not very responsive to requested features. Not Mac-compatible (unless you use cloud version which is more expensive). Have trouble getting staff to use the software - they tend to just want to access it on their phone app. Online Giving is not easy for first-time users. Lots of small group leaders have had trouble using the online attendance tracking.

Recommendations to other buyers: Really consider what your needs are. Look at programs like Church Community Builder, ChurchTeams, FellowshipOne, ServantKeeper, etc as well. If you are looking for highly intuitive software, this is probably not the software for you. If you want back-door access via ODBC and are a programmer this might be the best option for you.

By far the worst ChMS I've ever seen

Comments: ACS used to be the leader in this industry, but that was in the 1990s. Unfortunately, their software is still stuck in the 90s. It's incredibly difficult to figure out; not at all intuitive. The UX is terrible: it's like working on a Windows 95 machine in your old high school's computer lab.

Big issue for me: The software is ONLY for Windows. Do not be fooled by their deceptive product "OnDemand" which claims to let you use ACS on your Mac or iPad. It's total BS! What it does is log you in remotely to a Windows computer somewhere. And unless they've recently updated the software (unlikely), you can't even use it on iPad without an external keyboard.

Further, their pricing structure is ridiculous. You pay for every little thing separately. I met with a rep a couple of years ago who was pitching OnDemand to me, and I asked why we had to pay extra to use the software on our Macs. He said it's because it's a different "module." Total crap! That's like going to a restaurant, paying $85 for a steak and potato, and then being told that butter, salt, pepper, napkins, and silverware all cost extra.

Stay away from ACS. It's not worth the trouble.

Comments: ACS offers multiple levels of solutions for churches with weekly attendance from 100-20K. Previous reviews have indicated an outdated system UI, however, it is fair to note that with any software you only get out of it what you put into it and the UI should never be the difference between success and failure of any ChMS. ACS employees have served in churches, on staff and they understand the needs of reporting, communication, member facing engagement tools and best practices in data management. All software evaluations and subsequent implementations should be done with prayer, care and discernment with staff to decide what you need and why you need it.

Comments: ACS has tons of features, but connects you to their servers through a virtual desktop portal running windows. In effect, the operation is slow. Mobile access is a challenge.

The customer service is great, but a complicated dated system that is accessed virtually really made this a challenge to use. Workflow is definitely inhibited.

Comments: We use ACS OnDemand (PeopleSuite, Attendance, Connections modules) and are preparing to roll out AccessACS to our membership as part of a website re-do.

The pros:
* Using PeopleSuite and Attendance moved us from multiple spreadsheets (and hundreds of errors/discrepancies) to track member info and attendance.
* The Connections module is being used for our evangelism/visitation teams. They were slow to adopt, but their leader has championed its use and they're getting there.
* It allowed us to introduce spiritual gifts tied to volunteer opportunities to our membership, and our deacons and volunteer organizers can use it to track involvement and identify volunteers when opportunities arise.
* The directory phone/tablet app is very handy for our ministers and leadership (it has not been rolled out to the membership yet, but will be introduced this summer.)

The Cons:
* Attendance. We are a small/mid size church (just over 1,000 member/visitor files) so we handle attendance manually. The AccessACS module is too clunky for volunteers to enter attendance, which has placed the workload back on our very small office staff.
* There are significant limitations to the reporting on member involvement. Customized reports (and access to a report builder) are pricey.
* Creating a MS Word letter template is far more complicated than it should be.
* Texting capability ranges from bad (integration between PeopleSuite and AccessACS) to non-existent (integration with PhoneTree).

Bottom line: We purchased ACS years ago as a stand-alone, one-user model. We're now entering Year 2 of using the OnDemand, multi-user model. It has allowed us to become far more efficient than we were, but it's not where we want to be long-term.

Comments: What a great suite of products - this is the best database by far.

As with anything, there will be some limitations, but I have not found anything that I cannot work around. The interface does look look like something from 1998, but I'm happy to deal with this when I can so many things on it. Spending time to set up automations will save you hours, and the customer support is simply brilliant.

Pros: The feature set looked good. The interface was decent.

Cons: SLOW!! I had used church software for 14 years when I went to serve at a mega church in central Florida that used ACS. It was like going back to dial up from a FIOS world. With a mere 20,000 people in the database it took 60 seconds or more to find 10 people whose name matched a certain criteria such as "Billings*". And looking up one person by name search would take no less than 10 seconds. But worse of all, a simple attendance graph would take 45 minutes to generate. A roll could take 10-20 minutes to create and you were locked out of doing anything else. We had state of the art servers ($40k worth!), gigabit backbone, 100base in the office and decent desktop/laptop units. Just "processing rolls" to print was an all morning task. We printed them monthly s a result.

Overall: Not recommended. Extremely slow.
