Yes, I can give them the same reams of data that they had been trying to wade through, but I can also condense that down where they can just ask questions about a specific area if needed. Pros I liked being able to purchase a denominational specific version of the software. The updates address issues that are relevant to the ease of using the product. Call back time for telephone support is excellent. There is definitely a learning curve for the product; however, there are multiple ways available to assist with that such as the short live tutorials each month that last approximately 20 minutes and then are available to view at your discretion. Cons There are times when I find it difficult to discern how to word my search question in the Help section to find the answer that I am needing. I would also like to be able to even further tailor my reports. Pros The continuous updates and support of the Church Windows staff. I find the accounting side much easier to make corrections than the older version. I find the set-up of campaigns easier in in the donation version. Cons Donations. I find the new donations module very cumbersome, especially in entering batches. In Accounting it is one thing to edit an expense and have it drop to the bottom of the batch but in donations, to add a comment or make a correction and have it drop to the bottom of the batch means you have to pull the check and place it at the bottom if you want to keep things in order. It would be easier if you could make a correction and have it hold its place. In membership I find it more cumbersome to use the label section and the layout of the membership screen is hard to read. Overall the updates have made it less user friendly. Pros It combines the membership information, activity information and donation information all in one place in a fairly user-friendly format. We are encouraged to give our ideas on what works best for us. Cons I like a user-friendly software and this is really not that. Now, once you've worked on it a while, it's ok after you learn where the functions of the software are hidden. I think sometimes they need a 'user' to go help them write new programs since we are the ones working on it. Sometimes what makes sense to us who use it every day, may be programmed differently by someone who doesn't use it on a daily basis. I've worked on Ch. Win for 14 years and still have to reprogramme myself when they do an update to search to where they have moved stuff that I use daily...but I evently get there. It gives the Finance committee a quick look at what is being done or not done so it can be addressed quickly. Pros I think the contribution area is the best. It gives an accurate and easy account of what my parishioners have contributed. It is easy to locate any area that I may have questions about. The online and telephone help is extremely necessary and most of the people I have spoken with have been very patient and explained how and why it was necessary to do something in the program. Cons I think setting up the fund accounts was the most difficult. I did not begin this program I am inherited it when I took this position. The fund accounts were difficult to learn how to set up but I have been using this program for 18 years now. Trying to teach someone else to use this program may be a little more difficult unless they have used an accounting program before. When new people start learning it, they watch the videos or call for support and are helped. Everyone is very friendly in the support department. Pros I have found most of the features easy to use. Occasionally, I have trouble getting a report with only the information I need to print, wish that were easier. Other than that, I have not had a problem in the 6+ years we have been using Church Windows. This software will do many things that I haven't even thought about. Cons When paying the bills, when I add a comment I wish it would automatically print on the check stub, rather than having to append it on each check (which I forget to do most of the time...). If I take time to add a comment then I probably want it on the stub or report. I appreciate the online support and the quick responses that we receive which are easy to work through. I wish we had discovered this software much earlier. I appreciate that it is affordable for small churches and that we don't have to struggle with poorly written programs because that is all our budget can handle. Pros I am so grateful for a program that is easy to set up, easy to navigate, and easy on brain power. I was using another program that caused me daily frustration and I hated to even open the program. When we switched it was like a mental vacation. I like the 20 minutes webinars that allow us to get training to refresher courses or that give us training prior to changes. Cons I'm not sure how to get the online help that I need which occurred when You Tube became the source. I have not had time to investigate how to navigate. I'm sure that once I have time to investigate it will be simple as the rest of the procedures. Treasurer Religious Institutions Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "What would I do without Church Windows" May 17, 2019 5.0 I was kind of "thrown into" Church Windows with only rudimentary training. I had never functioned as a Treasurer before, my business experience was not in accounting, though I do have an understanding of the subject. As the past year and a half have gone by, I have discovered more and more of Church Window's capabilities and It has allowed me to make my work as Treasurer more meaningful to the Church officials. I wouldn't trade Church Windows for any other accounting software. Pros The Church Windows Support Staff. The Support Staff can help you with any issues or problems that you have. They are very responsive and I've yet to have an issue that they can't help me resolve. My Church pays for the Standard Support, but I throw in the extra for the Premium Support, and feel that it is very much worth it. Whenever I can, I also "attend" the Webinars that the Support Staff give, and I always learn something. Cons I can't think of anything. Every function seems to be useful and easy to understand. The company is very responsive when we call with a question. I particularly like the feature that addresses and other information that is updated in the membership module is transferred across the other modules, i.e. accounting, statements, etc. Cons Because of security concerns, the New Visions Community decided that we should subscribe to the cloud version of Church Windows. But when we got it set up, I discovered that my screen reader software, (I am blind) could not "read" the material through the citrix or vos portals. Also the query feature for creating reports is difficult to understand and the manual is not updated at the same time that a new version is sent to update the software. It is not easy to teach or do. Coming from other business accounting software has helped me to understand and navigate the system. It has also helped me to see where improvements can be made in the Church Windows software. Overall Church windows does handle the needs of this church as far as accounting and membership are concerned. Pros This software is easy to maneuver through. It is very basic and handles all the needs of our fund accounting. Cons There are some things that I feel could be added to help the user. The ability to "close" each month so that no transactions can be accidentally be entered into previous months. The search feature in the Membership portion is not user friendly also. I think warning features for using the same Invoice number, Check number and other important header items should be put into place. Reporting is fine if the reports you want are already set up but the methods are very cumbersome to try and create new reports. I have seen many changes, many updates and a few conversions. Church Windows is always working on making their software better. They listen to their customers and try to improve. I think it is pretty user friendly and their training seminars/webinars are excellent. Support is very important to me and they are by far the best support system I have every had the pleasure of working with. Pros Church Windows can pretty much do anything I want it to do and more. I love being able to export any of the information in to a different format report. (i.e. one that most everyone if use to like Excel) I like that the software ranges for the financial, accounting side to the membership. There is so much that this software can do. I was asked to look around to find a better software as soon as I had the time. But after shopping around and comparing other programs, I convinced them to stay with Church Windows and just switch it to the cloud. I love the tech support, and I love how easy it is to figure out. Over all, after shopping around for other programs, I can honestly say this program is perfect for us. Pros Church Windows has amazing tech support, and is perfect for what our church fund accounting! So easy to use and has every module we need. I also love the way the reports look! Cons When we transferred our Church Windows to the cloud based option, I noticed a lot of lagging. Where I used to be able to work quickly, I now have to go slower to allow the system to keep up. I have yet after 10 years of working with Church Windows found any area lacking in the support that the church needs and utilizes. Pros It tracks all transactions with simple entry. I don't have to keep up with all the new taxes because the updates keeps current with any changes. It produces all reports that a company may need and if you need to personalize the report and can't figure it out on your own the technical support team responds promptly to assist. I can't praise the support team enough. They have been priceless to me. Cons I am not sure that I have any dislike of this software. My only problem is me and not learning like I should on how to use it although the company offers seminars all of the time. Treasurer Religious Institutions Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Easy to use, mostly" June 3, 2019 5.0 The software we used in the past was more for a business with purchase orders, and outside contractors, among many other things, but not really for a church or non-profit. This software has been like night and day. Much easier to keep track of things. Bank recs are very easy. It has helped eliminate the need for multiple spreadsheets that were used in conjunction with the old software. Easier for parishioners to read and keep up with the church finances too, even without a financial background. Pros This software is easy to use. It was an easy transition from our old software, and has been easy for all users to learn. I like how all of the modules (membership, donations, accounting, payroll) all work together. It makes everything much more streamlined. It took awhile to figure out, but the donation statements turned out well. Setup took a little while to get what we were looking for, but in the end, are very professional looking. Cons There was a learning curve with the setup. Over the years, we have had to reconfigure parts of how we originally had set up some of the sub-funds and so on, but now we have it figured out, with the help of customer service. The developed Chart of Accounts causes me to create many Journal Entries. Pros I handle the contributions module, accounting module , and back-ups of the software. The pre-filled data entries are handy to use. The software has much built into it, that is not used by us. Reports are generated that answer inquires. The work gets done in a timely manner. The more experience with the software, the more intuitive it becomes. Cons Many radio buttons and drop down lists alter the reporting results dramatically. Church Windows versions change often, but luckily, are not mandatory to install. Sometimes, though, upon installation, the software works better with the operating system. I truly appreciate their timeliness and succinct answers to my questions. Pros This software has helped us tremendously with the day to day accounting at the church. I love that the Payroll module fits seamlessly with the Accounting Module. No more multiple spreadsheets to do end of month financial reporting. Church Windows has all the information in one place. Payroll taxes are a breeze as well as the report in Payroll lets you know how much to pay and the funds in Accounting are automatically populated to draw from. Cons We no longer use Church Windows as our database for people, as it is not the type of software that all of the congregation can use. We use Church Community Builder for people, donations & scheduling. I insisted we keep Church Windows for Income & Expenses as it handles those so well, especially for someone who isn't an accountant. Pros Customer support is number one! In Columbus, Ohio, easy to contact, easy to understand, always has an answer for a problem, you can suggest changes to the software. Hands down, best customer support. Love that everything is done in one application. Donations are easily transferred into accounting. Entering bills, tracking bills, paying bills super easy. We also use the payroll portion and it has made payroll a breeze. Tracking attendance, membership, groups/classes is all done with great ease. November 13, 2018 4.0 Time saved in data entry, even with the learning curve of new software has been huge. Easy to follow menus. We changed software for several reasons. On the old software there was no way to customize reporting for anything in the General Ledger, searches for data or people were very limited, inflexible forms such as Statement format, and because of expense of the old software monthly. With Church Windows I have received prompt customer service when needed, sped up my data entry, and now have the ability to get the reports my Vestry has been asking for. Thank you Church Windows! Pros You are able to look up a single entry with a search! If you have to correct an entry the software will correct with a new journal entry so everything is above board for your audits. You can write a report of almost any information in the system not just "canned" reports! You have a choice of entering people and Members or Visitors and can produce lists and labels for either or. The report writing is easy to use and you don't have to be a programmer to create your own reports! Easy Look-ups for people, one click to choose, search for first or last names, saves a zillion clicks over the other software I was using. Cons Exported reports only come up easily for Microsoft Excel. Not so handy when you use WordPerfect or OpenOffice. Additionally, we are able to print mailing labels for committees and events, print photo directories in-house, and generate reports to help us gather annual statistical information and attendance information. Also, a someone who is not particularly adept at using databases, creating readable reports can be difficult. Need easy-to-understand/follow directions would be helpful. Cons Sometimes updates to the software don't provide much of a warning that something has changed in the way you use the software. If you do not have a lot of time to sit through a webinar covering the changes, you have to struggle through to figure out the changes. Also, i have experienced difficulty using the YouTube tutorials to fix a particular problem. (This may be my problem, myt Church Windows' problem.)
