Pros Customer support has always been outstanding and the on-line video and help documentation provides reinforces most of the functions. Year end reports are a breeze, including W2's & 1099's. I keep membership info, including; email, mailing address, phone #'s, all membership status info. etc. I just can't imagine doing without it now that I use it. Pros It saves me time, work, and it's so easy to use. I enter the data, and it creates any reports I need. Cons I can't think of anything that I don't like or that I like least... it's all so productive. I have never worked for a church before but I am very pleased with how great it is to turn on my computer in the morning and know that CW is working and that if I run into a glitch, your support staff is available in a timely manner. Pros I can provide the necessary reports requested by staff. I love doing payroll in house now and I find it easy to use. Cons Too much flexibility. I don't like to have to CREATE every new report and save it and name it. Some of the steps do not make sense to me and when I don't use certain reports that often I cant remember how to do it. Too many choices to have to select. I do work for my current church and former church, and to some degree use for both. I recommended it to my newer church and we are planning on using it more next year. I may or may not be involved. I've been using their programs for decades (Hmm and the Financial program I am still using is probably a decade out of date. So I still need to learn the new programs but that's NOT because they are making it difficult to do so. I just haven't taken advantage of the many opportunities I had to update. (If it a'int broke - don't fix it!) Pros Flexibility. Suitability to my needs. Ease of entry. Friendliness of support staff. Cons Inability to copy entries from one space to others or many spaces. November 17, 2018 5.0 The previous Treasurer was using Excel which I felt was inadequate. I was in search of a computer program to replace Excel and found online. It has made this job enjoyable. Pros This software has taken a difficult job and made it easy. I have Membership, Donations, Accounting & Payroll modules. They interact smoothly. Popups guide you at different crucial steps. Reports are easy to compose for different needs. In Donations, accounts can be set up for transfer to matching accounts in the Accounting module. Payroll is very easy to use. Once the employee's data has been set, it is simple to calculate a payroll. The module does all the work and the Popups are the to guide. It prints off tax forms needed. It's dependable and if I ever have a problem, Customer Service will return my call within a few hours with knowledgeable staff to resolve my issue. Cons My only difficulty has been with Membership, but I attribute that to lack of use on my part. They have a tutorial I need to watch which would solve that. You can call or submit a support ticket with your issue and depending on what it is you get an email pretty promptly or a call back. Everyone has been overly patient, knowledgeable and helpful. Cons We have outgrown it. When I started using it over 20 years ago, we were a church of about 200 and now we are a church of 1400. I presently only use the accounting portion as we have moved to another company for our data base, donations and events. I especially like the payroll module - very easy to use and the reports for church and for government are great. Also the support is very good. Cons Setting up the accounting was my least favorite duty - I really wasn't familiar with the way things should be set up but the instructions in the helps are excellent and I got it done. Customer service is excellent. Recommended for smaller and medium sized congregations. Cons Very limited in what reports you can create. Too many picture icons for my taste. Cloud based is expensive and remote connection is not ideal. No interaction with members on cloud. Payroll is limited, works as intended for church staff, but if you have a daycare center/preschool its limited. We added the payroll module to get everything the Church needs. There is a wide variety or reports available that seem to cover all the needs. The customer support has always been fast and efficient. Cons As an accountant, I would prefer a more debit/credit based system. However, the vast majority of users will do better with the program as it is written. It helps to go through their manuals when beginning with the program to help learn the intricacies of the software. The payroll software needs some upgrading with the tax forms and current requirements of both the IRS and our state of Georgia. I have used Church Windows for the 16 years I have been here at First Presbyterian Church. I have found it to be user friendly. But since I have been with them so long I have grown with them. I have had only one time that I finished a call when I did not feel good about the software and the person who was supposed to be helping me. I felt like I wasn't listened to and that I was being talked down to. Calls have always been returned promptly. Cons Most small churches do not have the personnel to use this software. But the thing that sells me on the product is their customer service. It is exceptional. You call their number, give them your code, tell them your issue, and then an expert gives you a call back. No need to wait on hold for someone to answer...ever. Usually within 30 minutes they are calling you right back and able to help with your issue. There are a lot of different options out there, but Church Windows customer service has to be at the top and gives us reason to continue using this product. Cons We have an older version and don't necessarily plan on updating for the time being. With that said, the version we do have is outdated. It only runs on a PC, which that requires us to have Parallels and a Windows desktop. This is a headache for me as it takes over 35 gigs of space on my MacBook. That's basically my only complaint! The process of getting a call back rather than waiting in queue is great and keeps the caller from wasting time waiting on hold. The callback comes in a timely manner and the reps/techs are very knowledgeable about the programs and the versions used. I would rate their customer service at 5 stars! I appreciate the free webinars offered, too. There is a lot you can do with this. Pros CW is user-friendly and offers a plethora of customized reports for one's congregation. Track parishioners' contact information, church involvement, attendance, giving/pledges, class participation, pastoral visits, and more. You can even print telephone directories. Cons Sometimes it is so detailed/customizable that it can get a bit tricky to navigate some of the more detailed features. The customer support is wonderful, but you do have to pay for it with an annual or semiannual customer support subscription. Reason for choosing Church Windows I visited another church's administrator to see how she used the software in more detail to see if it would be useful for our congregation's needs. As new programmers change how the information is entered and seen, you have to add on to your prior knowledge and go from there. But customer service is great. Pros It is a basic database for information about your church members and visitors. It can mail merge and export files to different programs. Access to information can be customized as you like it, with whatever info you need that is saved for your members or visitors. Cons It is a database so it only has the information that you put in. The program must be updated as new versions are released, which can make your old forms obsolete. Very expensive!!! The payroll system takes into account the pastor requirements and transfers everything over to payroll. I can find information easily in all modules--even for years past--should an issue ever come up. 1099 reporting is easy; W-2s are easy. Pros I like the integration of all the modules, i.e., accounting, donations, payroll, and membership. I like how you have worked with VANCO to download online giving directly into the database eliminating data entry. The software is easy to use and learn. Cons The reports--they are more difficult for me than I would like. I learned before how to custom write reports but certainly have forgotten it all. Cons With the new re-write of the software, some parts of it are slightly more cumbersome and take an extra step or two. The program was set up by two of us without any kind of accounting experience. I was the person who set up the membership although another person has maintained that after setup.
