April 1, 2026

4.0

Not having used a similar product before, it took a while to learn the nuances. Accessing the 'help' videos and notes has been extremely valuable and when issues arose that couldn't be resolved easily the support staff has been very accommodating and timely.

Pros

I like the ability to review questions and options, comparing them against a defined direction, as well as the links to manufacturers' information, when necessary.

Cons

Moving back and forth between sections can be tedious - it's not possible to leave one section open to compare something against another section without the first one closing.

3.0

Overall good experience. Most of the features are simple and easy to understand and use. Easy to set up project documentation using SpecLink.

Pros

Most features fairly closely mimic MSWord which makes it simple to use. Easy to remove sections and paragraphs from specs/documents.

Cons

Editor notes are difficult to recognize. Not intuitive to be able to copy and paste Word content into SpecLink documents. Printing documents could be more user friendly.

### "Efficient, Useful Tool for Specifications! "

April 1, 2026

5.0

Overall, our company utilizes RIB SpecLink almost daily and it has become a very useful tool in our office. We would definitely recommend to others in our industry!

Pros

Our company appreciates the wide variety of spec sections readily available, the constant updates to reference standards, manufacturers, etc., and the use friendly interface.

Cons

There is a learning curve for new users, but most catch on quickly. Sometimes the software doesn't save for some reason.

### "Pretty good"

April 1, 2026

4.0

Mostly positive when using the product, however, there are a few too many glitches and time when the software slows down or won't print. Getting intelligent, meaningful help is impossible.

Pros

Increased workload production and project management. Ease of uploading and changing specifications.

Cons

Lack of help, efficient training, and easy answers to questions. Past experiences have taught me that Speclink help doesn't know the product.

### "It Makes Spec Writing 'Fun'."

April 1, 2026

5.0

Very good. I am very impressed with the program overall, and I recommend other AEC profossionals to give it a serious look if they are looking for Specification Writing software.

Pros

The ease of use. If you are paying attention, even the most inexperienced person can start writing a specification. I also like the 'road map' you get when you start a Section and it promts you to items you should have in the spec (green), and the items to consider (yellow).

Cons

Occasionally it is hard to add Manufacturers to a Division. I also detest the 'blanks' that show up when you print or save. I know that's on me, but is it possible to have those empty spaces change color (like Red) so it is even easer to spot them?

### "Good overall, but still a few bugs."

April 1, 2026

4.0

Works fairly well. I like the online access, but there is significant lag. This may be due to my personal connection, but downloading the section to work on it should solve this problem. I was clicking on things, and nothing would happen, so I click it again, and it was a problem. It slowed editing significantly.

Pros

Fairly easy to use and I like the team comment feature. It has worked well for one spec I wrote. A read me function screen for linked team members would be helpful so they know how the program works and they do not need to comment on every line in the spec, even the ones that are not selected.

Cons

Export and Print features are a little rough and importing sections has limitations that are not fully explained, including features that do not work unless the file is "named correctly" but this is not explained.

### "Brew me another cup to top off my morning with SpecLink! "

April 1, 2026

5.0

Very positive experience. We have always felt that RIB had OUR interests first. The reporting is super easy and relevant. Makes for a great presentation to our teams.

Pros

The ease at which valued information is literally at our fingertips. Straight-forward, no complicated means by which to obtain this information. Quick and genuinely helpful customer service. Always makes our day!

Cons

All the "likes" are in my PROS bucket! I guess it would have to be the harsh reality that with RIB SpecLink we don't have the benefits as with a Project Lead Service, which really would be the icing on the cake!

### "Don't Wait - Get SpecLink Now!"

April 1, 2026

5.0

The product itself, training staff, and technical support team are outstanding. I highly recommend ditching your old ways of writing specs and switching to SpecLink.

Pros

It has allowed our firm to abandon the outdated, cumbersome, and risky process of "leapfrogging" word processor spec documents from one project to the next. Critical content is being updated constantly, so we don't miss out on the latest industry trends and changes.

Cons

There's very little to "not like" but the learning curve can be steep and sometimes overwhelming for new users. That settles down with repetition and using the fantastic help documentation.

overall I have been happy. We have been using this for a year and we are constantly looking to make improvements for our office standards to make them easier to use.

Pros

Team Collaboration is a great feature and using the comments function allows you to track the comments or questions with ease.

Cons

the ease of creating project types with specific standards. lack of detail with the 3D model being linked in. lack of editing for cover sheets.

### "Great Product"

June 24, 2025

4.0

I am satisfied with the software. I wish there were training videos for identifying what should be linked and how when writing new template specifications. Also, a training video that explains where all the specification details and assemblies originate and how they are connected to the product.

Pros

I am delighted with the concept of exclusion and inclusion in specification writing. It makes the process very adaptable to other similar projects.

Cons

When I use typical symbols such as "&," the software is confused and substitutes words that don't make sense.

### "Bao Zao Lao Gou"

1.0

Was able to get it to function in part. Some features are simply too difficult. But the process was way too difficult. I have been writing specifications for 30 years and never had this much difficulty before.

Pros

It has many features. Glad to see some innovation.

Cons

The visual graphics do not correlate to the functionality in a linear way. Have to spend hours and hours trying to figure things out. Need more plain english instructions and to avoid utilizing different terminology for the same things. Simple linear instructions with constant names and definitions are needed. It almost seems like different parts of the program are written by different people that don't communicate the protocol with each other.

### "SLC Review"

August 7, 2024

4.0

The automation of headers and exporting files is a huge timesaver, but getting the Office Masters built can be a time-consuming task, especially when production of Project Manuals is needed.

Pros

Once a master is built it, it streamlines the editing process, allowing more experienced staff to guide new spec writers through the use of Links and Choices.

Cons

The files from RIB are all incomplete (still need linking, if nothing else), and the logic of some Sections is confusing. I understand that they are built to accommodate a wide variety of client needs, but at its core, this is a program for specifications and should be built as such. For example, EVERY specification will have the Part titles of "Part 1" and "Part 3", but these are built as Suggestion Links. This is something that I correct every time. There are also a couple of Sections which seem to allow three different approaches to specifying, but one must figure this out and remove the options that don't work for their firm. If nothing else, NP headers of "This portion is for Basis of Design specifying" and "This portion is for performance specification" so that they parts can be understood would be a big help. More custom fields during export would also be helpful. Office Masters don't have the M and M\* functionality that would help identify where changes were made in a project. This would be helpful.

Dear Robert, Thank you for your detailed feedback on RIB SpecLink. We appreciate your insights and are thrilled that the automation of headers and file exporting has been a significant timesaver for you. We value your constructive feedback on areas for improvement, especially regarding the time investment in building Office Masters and the need for more complete files. Your suggestions about improving logic, clarifying specification approaches, and enhancing custom fields during export are excellent points we'll consider for future updates. Your idea about adding the M and M\* functionality to Office Masters is particularly insightful and will help us refine SpecLink further. ### "A Vast Improvement Over MasterSpec"

June 24, 2025

5.0

Overall I am very pleased with the software, as it is a significant improvement over typical MasterSpec Word specifications.

Pros

The built-in automatic updating, choice fields, intelligent linking and overall ease of use of the interface are the main reasons we made the switch. Also, customer service and tech support is swift and responsive.

Cons

Sometimes the linking is faulty, especially for the Table of Contents. Also, we have provided a significant number of proposed enhancements, of which only a minor fraction have been implemented. Track changes need to be improved with more options. Network slowdown or browser memory limitations sometimes reduce performance. The RIB library of available sections needs to be increased to rival the MasterSpec library as there are still many scope items that do not exist in the RIB library.

Positive. As one of the company's spec writers and trainer for other architects in the firm I work in this software almost everyday. I still find more to learn all the time.

Pros

Ease of use. Saves time. Constant updates. Great training resources at your fingertips. Responsive technical support. I like the monthly SpecTalks.

Cons

### "SpecLink review"

May 27, 2025

4.0

Tech support has been helpful when I've needed to reach out. They are willing to work with me for solutions and are understanding and patient.

Pros

The linked features that make it easier to reference other specifications. The ease of editing header/footers and the format in one step, instead of spec by spec.

Cons

Editing entries and adding new lines/information can sometimes mess with formatting. Accepting track changes must be done spec section by spec section, instead of all at once for the entire project. There are some formatting limitations that require post processing to match client formats.

May 27, 2025

SpecLink has been a great move for our company. The help team is responsive when we need them. It has saved us so much time assembling packages for reviews and clients.

Pros

Speclink makes printing specs to pdf a breeze. There are customizable options for how printing is handled. We are able to import specifications across projects easily and access that information quickly.

Cons

### "Improvement from the old spec system "

June 25, 2025

5.0

Overall experience is a smoother process of spec-writing. Also appreciate that you can import similar specs from other projects (even if not originally created in SpecLink) and adjust accordingly.

Pros

Much improved spec-writing program compared to the old system. Provides a nice template for spec-writing, even offering suggestions, and makes it much less daunting and dry to go through. Also appreciate you can create projects within the program that encompass different specs, so you can keep things organized.

Cons

Headers and footers can be a challenge to edit and/or get editted to how you need them. Many of times our Clients have a specific company standard for how they want headers/footers shown (including specific colors for any revisions made) and this isn't as intuitive or smooth as I would like, but it is not a deal breaker given the many other capabilites of SpecLink elsewhere.

May 27, 2025

3.0

My overall experience with Speclink is good. It is a solution to have all specs for all projects in one area. Would be nice if could have a process for spec deviations internal to the software.

Pros

Speclink allows for all specs to be consolidated space. The program is easy to use but does require some training.

Cons

### "Great Software with a Few Bugs"

August 7, 2024

5.0

Overall, I appreciate the ease of using the software, the functionality of it, ability to add User notes, import reference standards, ease of printing, etc. But there are a few annoying things that I would be very happy to have worked out as they do create issues.

Pros

It's very easy to edit. Anyone can learn the basics. If you have time and want to get deeper into the software there are additional tools that make the software even easier and save time for large projects and office Masters, etc.

Cons

There are a number of glitches with the software. If you select an option/choice that is different from the default SpecLink master, there is always the risk that when you print the section those changes will not print but will instead read as a code {CH#351125}. This has happened many times in our final Bid Sets after the QC process which is extremely disappointing. It means we have to QC the final set one more time after printing it just to ensure SpecLink didn't mess anything up. If there are glitches, your original text is gone and you have to take the time to recreate it from markups or the Office Master spec. I don't know what causes the glitches so am not aware of how to avoid this other than to create a User paragraph any time there are changes to the SpecLink section.

### "The most fun you can have writing specifications!"

August 7, 2024

5.0

Having worked with many approaches to specifications, RIB Speclink is by far my favorite. I'm comfortable that the data going into my specifications is up to date and reflective of current standards. I love the flexibility of the platform and the allowance of customization; the ability to see the entirety of sections in case I change my mind; the incorporation of both system and user notes. I could go on and on ... but it really is the most fun you can have writing specs!

Pros

It's tough to identify my favorite feature of Speclink because there are so many. However, the one that I feel differentiates Speclink from other programs is it actively encourages the development of specifications organically throughout the entirety of a project - easily transitioning from Outline, to Short Form, to Full Specifications. It also is a great tool to help younger designers become more thoughtful and intentioned as they can use Speclink as a great resource for product research that has already been done.

Cons

Like most things, benefits increase with effort - what you get out of Speclink is proportional to what you put in. This can often mean that within a larger organization, you can end up with a range of results. Yes, setting up standards can help, but there are always users that will stick with "out of the box" rather than leaning into the power of the program. This can create issues QAQC reviewers really need to be mindful of.
