### "Great Product"

June 24, 2025

4.0

I am satisfied with the software. I wish there were training videos for identifying what should be linked and how when writing new template specifications. Also, a training video that explains where all the specification details and assemblies originate and how they are connected to the product.

Pros

I am delighted with the concept of exclusion and inclusion in specification writing. It makes the process very adaptable to other similar projects.

Cons

When I use typical symbols such as "&," the software is confused and substitutes words that don't make sense.

### "DR SpecLink Review"

April 1, 2026

3.0

Overall good experience. Most of the features are simple and easy to understand and use. Easy to set up project documentation using SpecLink.

Pros

Most features fairly closely mimic MSWord which makes it simple to use. Easy to remove sections and paragraphs from specs/documents.

Cons

Editor notes are difficult to recognize. Not intuitive to be able to copy and paste Word content into SpecLink documents. Printing documents could be more user friendly.

### "Longtime loyal subscriber"

April 1, 2026

5.0

I've really enjoyed using Speclink and highly recommend it. As an independent specifier, I've been asked to work in other programs from time to time based on a client's preferences, and those have only made me appreciate Speclink more. I also like that RIB will listen to feedback and are constantly working to make the program better.

Pros

I have been using Speclink for the past 10 years and find it easy to use and easy to modify to meet my company's needs. I appreciate the appropriately restrained level of detail in the content making it more user-friendly, the linking between parts and sections which reduces conflicts and ensures a higher level of coordination throughout our documents and formatting and printing features which greatly reduce time. It truly makes the documentation process more efficient, which allows us to spend our time on the things that matter - sharing our knowledge and contributing to a project's success.

Cons

I wish I could search the whole database for a specific product I've used before, that isn't in my master, but I want to find again. I also wish I could export directly into my project folder, rather than a download folder.

### "Easiest way to write specs."

April 2, 2026

5.0

Fantastic. The platform has helped improve my spec writing and coordination. The master features are excellent tools.

Pros

Really easy to use overall. The built-in references and content are super helpful, and it’s quick to put sections together without much effort. It also makes it easier to coordinate across different disciplines, which is a big plus. The included products and manufacturers are great too—even if they don’t always fit every project perfectly, they’re a solid starting point and definitely better than starting from scratch.

Cons

Glitches with table of contents section; Content is somewhat limited for specialty systems/products.

### "Nice spec writing software "

April 1, 2026

4.0

Good specification program, could be better. Haven't tried the Revit coordination yet. That could be a game changer.

Pros

Complete specification sections and relatively easy to use, if you know the materials being used. I'd say not for someone that doesn't know the products.

Cons

Inconsistency between sections, such as spelling, grammar, and formatting. Weirdness as never printing the end of section Odd Page for the last section in a project print. Allowing the manufacturer to put their name in the section title. Big issue with that. Issue with updates not finishing, shows multiple pending but unable to complete. The updates can be extremely tedious for existing Office Templates. You have to transfer any changes to a new file or view each line item change to make sure it doesn't write over something included in the Template section.

4.0

Not having used a similar product before, it took a while to learn the nuances. Accessing the 'help' videos and notes has been extremely valuable and when issues arose that couldn't be resolved easily the support staff has been very accommodating and timely.

Pros

I like the ability to review questions and options, comparing them against a defined direction, as well as the links to manufacturers' information, when necessary.

Cons

Moving back and forth between sections can be tedious - it's not possible to leave one section open to compare something against another section without the first one closing.

### "Efficient, Useful Tool for Specifications! "

April 1, 2026

5.0

Overall, our company utilizes RIB SpecLink almost daily and it has become a very useful tool in our office. We would definitely recommend to others in our industry!

Pros

Our company appreciates the wide variety of spec sections readily available, the constant updates to reference standards, manufacturers, etc., and the use friendly interface.

Cons

There is a learning curve for new users, but most catch on quickly. Sometimes the software doesn't save for some reason.

### "Pretty good"

April 1, 2026

4.0

Mostly positive when using the product, however, there are a few too many glitches and time when the software slows down or won't print. Getting intelligent, meaningful help is impossible.

Pros

Increased workload production and project management. Ease of uploading and changing specifications.

Cons

Lack of help, efficient training, and easy answers to questions. Past experiences have taught me that Speclink help doesn't know the product.

### "It Makes Spec Writing 'Fun'."

April 1, 2026

5.0

Very good. I am very impressed with the program overall, and I recommend other AEC profossionals to give it a serious look if they are looking for Specification Writing software.

Pros

The ease of use. If you are paying attention, even the most inexperienced person can start writing a specification. I also like the 'road map' you get when you start a Section and it promts you to items you should have in the spec (green), and the items to consider (yellow).

Cons

Occasionally it is hard to add Manufacturers to a Division. I also detest the 'blanks' that show up when you print or save. I know that's on me, but is it possible to have those empty spaces change color (like Red) so it is even easer to spot them?

Response from RIB Software

May 11, 2026

Rick, thank you for your thoughtful feedback and for highlighting how the roadmap guidance and structured prompts make it easier for users of all experience levels to build specifications. We’re glad these features are making a positive impact. It’s great to hear you’ve had such a strong overall experience and would recommend SpecLink to others. We also appreciate your insights regarding manufacturer organization and the “blanks” appearing in printed outputs, as this helps us continue refining clarity and usability. ### "Great platform with greater potential"

May 27, 2025

4.0

Overall, I think speclink has provided a simple workflow, and good time-saving features that have sreamlined our spec writing process. There are always more features and customizations that I think could help the platform, so I appreciate the way the development and support team is available and receptive to users' input.

Pros

I really appreciate the potential for automation and streamlining tasks. Many tasks are accomplished much more easily than the old-fashioned way already, and I know that the development team is actively working on improvements large and small.

Cons

I wish there was more robust and granular control for customization of features within the actual workflow. Many features seem like they could be small but have a large impact on the process of producing documents on the platform.

Cons

There are a few items: 1. Occasional issues with importing Word documents. 2. Occasional lags in the response time when activating or deactivating paragraphs.

### "Great start and potential for new projects"

June 24, 2025

4.0

I have been able to go through the SpecLink from a training aspect but have not yet been able to implement it in a project due to limited accessibility. I am looking forward to having a one stop spot for accessing up to date specs rather than searching through our folders for older specs that are not fully updated (codes and standards). Still working though it.

Pros

Availability of up-to-date specs that can be coordinated with all disciplines. Edits that can be undone if the specs are used for other projects when some aspects not applicable to one project are applicable on another. We typically do a lot of copy/paste between similar projects and this can be invaluable.

Cons

I am not sure if it is a permissions issues but some specifications are not accessible for use with a project. Additionally, if you are working in more specialized projects, not all applicable specifications are available. For example, specification that cover piping for particular gas systems (hydrogen).

Overall, I like the ease of use with SpecLink. With each new release, it gets better and continues to meet the needs of our Firm.

Pros

I love the Global Terms for quick edits and revisions rather than searching through multiple documents to make changes. It helps keep different sections referencing the same information from have accidental conflicts.

Cons

### "Speclink- The best project documentation tool available"

August 7, 2024

5.0

I've been using SpecLink for over 3 years. With almost 100 projects specified in SpecLink, we've proven its worth with increased project coordination, fewer change orders, and reduced production time. I would highly recommend SpecLink to any Architect or engineering firm.

Pros

Speclink eases the burden of mundane specification tasks. The automated updates and cross-specification formatting tools speed the finalization of the project manual and allow for a better product. Also, the depth and breadth of technical specification content (without being overly wordy) provides the ability for Clear, Correct, Concise, and Complete contract documents.

Cons

Speclink can improve the final assembly even further by integrating non text style document organization and greater assembly and change management options.

### "Great Software For Spec Writing"

June 24, 2025

4.0

Overall it is a really great product with some excellent features. I have been writing specifications for just three years and have really come to appreciate your product and all of the features it offers.

Pros

It's a great baseline to start with for a variety of projects and products. I like the fact that all of the testing and standards are updated regularly, saving me hours of research time.

Cons

I find it sometimes difficult to customize spec sections to our needs. It would also be helpful to have more notes for each section, describing the real-world applications of different product selections. The specification strategies on some sections are cumbersome and difficult to navigate, i.e. they really don't help much.

June 24, 2025

Positive. As one of the company's spec writers and trainer for other architects in the firm I work in this software almost everyday. I still find more to learn all the time.

Pros

Ease of use. Saves time. Constant updates. Great training resources at your fingertips. Responsive technical support. I like the monthly SpecTalks.

Cons

May 27, 2025

It is excellent. I really like it. The versatility is a wonderful experience and the ease of use makes it a breeze.

Pros

The ability to simply turn on or turn off content to be printed. No longer do I need to delete and add in different content for different projects, now i simply turn it off or turn it on. Brilliant.

Cons

Some of the content may be difficult to edit, without sufficient explanation. If something is locked by my management, it would be nice if a note popped up saying "This content locked by \[sensitive content hidden\]" or something

### "Issues with Speclink"

June 25, 2025

4.0

Speclink has worked well for us. It needs to be improved so that we can easily update our company Standard Master Spec and to be able to update all other project specs when global changes are made.

Pros

Ease of use; cloud based; formatting; codes and standards; multiple users at the same time; consistency of output; etc.

Cons

Missing search and replace; inability to import sections into multiple projects; printing of individual sections with their table of contents; unable to print the entire spec along with the table of contents so that pdf can be easily used; Tables can be very difficult to insert and utilize; etc

### "SpecLink is a great product (wish it were not so expensive.)"

June 24, 2025

5.0

Fantastic! Once getting used to the program idiosyncrasies it is easy to use. So much so that I dread going to a different program should the head of our small firm jump to another less costly program.

Pros

Tech support is second to none! Always available, very astute in solving issues. There is a bit of an initial learning curve, but once mastered, it is a very easy program on which to write very thorough specifications.

Cons

Cost. We are a small architectural firm and allocating monies from our overall budget is a point of contention in our projection meetings.

### "4.5 Stars out of 5"

May 28, 2025

5.0

I would give RIB 4.5 stars because of the ease of use and edit capabilities. I want to learn more given the opportunity, even refreshers for standard commands that I may have overlooked.

Pros

It is a no hassle way of writing specifications, especially ones we use for every project or with clients that have standards. I actually look forward to getting my specifications completed now!

Cons

I think more training upfront would be a great introduction for younger design staff just getting involved in specs. Also, a refresher on RIB updates would be fantastic. I know there are parts of the software that I still don't use.

### "Wilson Composites, LLC/ Facade Constructors Review"

May 27, 2025

5.0

It's been great, the support team is very accommodating and conveniently available when we need them.

Pros

Our favorite part of this software is the executive overview, this allows us to see what we are being specified for and what we aren't. Allowing us to dig deeper on how to better adapt and evolve to our ever changing industry.

Cons

We honestly wish we could see the platform from a spec writer POV, just to see how things look on their end to better market our materials.

### "Good, but still bugs to work out in the cloud-based version"

June 27, 2024

3.0

Overall, despite the frustrations noted, it's a decent program. As it stands, I give it a solid 3.5 stars out of five, if I had to be truly fair. Once some of the residual cloud issues are resolved, I would give the program an upgraded star rating of 4 or 4.5 out of 5.

Pros

I've been using Speclink for over ten years and have been using the cloud-based version for about two years. It was a bit time consuming to get our firm's master specification Sections initially set up in the program, but it's a big time saver once we did. It takes some time to get used to the program but overall fairly easy to figure out.

Cons

There are issues which we've discussed at length with support which have yet to be fixed. One issue being the fonts will randomly reduce in size throughout documents, and you have to manually go in and fix them. I've asked customer support about fixing this issue myriad times and so far have been offered no fix or follow up. So I'm resigned to just dealing with it. Another issue is the headers and footers are terrible to wrangle with. Even after setting them up multiple times, frequently changes or edits will not "stick". For example, changing a font from all caps to a mix of caps and lower case will take multiple tries. Things like this not being addressed makes the user experience frustrating. Hopefully they will be addressed soon?

### "Specifications Writing - User-Friendly Software"

August 7, 2024

4.0

Overall, I have enjoyed Speclink as my preferred software for specifications writing. It has been easy to learn and navigate. I wish that there was more of a "Supporting Documents" feature similar to MasterSpec that provided more editing assistance and information than the Notes feature. I also have had times where it has been slow to load occasionally, but downtime is not excessive. It is definitely the most user-friendly software available that I have used though compared to other specification software options on the market.

Pros

Ease of use, ability to jump in and learn and find things quickly, user-friendly

Cons

At times, it can be slow and loading can take a while.

### "So far so good!"

August 7, 2024

4.0

The people who rep us for speclink were great at getting us launched quickly and accurately and they are easy to get a hold of when we need them.

Pros

I think we have gained more traction with Architects and have been put in more specs. But we still are on our first year though so we will see how it gets the longer we are listed on Specklink.

Cons

The interface takes some getting used to and I wish we could see whole job plans or specifications when we are specified on a job because our product can be used in a couple of different areas so if we don't know that our product could go somewhere else on a job, we might lose an opportunity.
