July 12, 2018 5.0 Pros We switched from using our own servers in a server farm to the Google Cloud Platform about 5 years ago. It was the best thing for our company. At the time I was the only Developer/IT manager we had. I was rushing to the server farm whenever we had an issue. With Google Cloud we haven't had an issue. If we do I can fix things from my own computer where ever I am. Upgrading servers takes seconds instead of days. and downtime is not in our vocabulary any more. I am SO happy we switched. Cons The only thing I have to complain about is finding the docs you are looking for. Once you find them they are very helpful and easy to understand, but finding them can be hard at times. It protects data, applications, infrastructure, and customers from fraudulent activity, and abuse with the same rigid security services Google has Pros Hands down to this app for it really helps store my data safely, and the security level is unmatched since Google administers it. It's also very flexible and can respond to various programming languages. You can really create projects easily even if you don’t have previous background in coding. Cons I think that Google Cloud Platform is somewhat expensive and consumes a lot of credits for simple projects. Its Onboarding Process is poorly supported and could do with a bit of an update as well. Assistance is also readily and easily available. Pros I love Gmail so Google Cloud is easy to use with my Gmail. There is a LOT that Google Cloud has to offer so it can be intimidating at first trying to navigate and get a hang of the system. It is relatively inexpensive to pay to increase storage/services. Help is also easy to access if needed. The system is also great at protecting data. Very secure tool. Cons Although it is inexpensive to expand Google Cloud it does cost monthly fees to enhance its full potential. Storage fees can add up though depending on how much you are attempting to store. It can also be intimating when first opened and can take some getting used to. The documentation is really helpful and well written, I find it very easy to understand and learn how to use the products. The fact that I was able to integrate seamlessly my computing server with the Bitnami Lamp app was also really cool. I have used other cloud platforms but I think Google Cloud platform is one of my favorite so far. I would highly really recommend it. Pros It is extremely easy to use and you can start using it almost right away. It also has so many products that you can use that it's likely everything you can think of can be done using one of the products of GCP. Whether it's automatic speech recognition, machine learning or pub/sub, everything is there (and constantly evolving). Cons Due to the numerous products that are available within GCP, it sometimes can be hard to find out the correct one to use for your specific needs. Google Cloud Platforms has the most robust, user-friendly, collaboration-centric, and easy to use services around. The Cloud Console really brings home the bacon with tools, storage, and access to monitoring, logging, tracing, and error reporting--no other platform makes developing, managing, and collaborating as clean and quick as GCP. Pros Google Cloud Platform was incredibly easy to start using--that was it's biggest benefit. It has a free trial when you sign up, including $300 in credits and the Dashboard and Console made acclimating to the platform basically effortless. Navigating and "learning the waters" of a new cloud provider can be intimidating, especially those of us with less IT experience, but not with GCP. It made remote device access, error reporting, and analytics easy to find, use, and collaborate on. Cons The IAM, Admin, and Billing sections weren't quite as smooth sailing as the rest of the platform. I also use Google Translate API in some of my projects to get the gist of text that I'm working on. The overall process of using it is rather simple but due to very obsolete UI it can get quite confusing sometimes. Pros I really like the Google Translate API that helps me in my work as I can easily plug it into other professional tools that I use. Cons The UI is a common problem with many Google products. Pros I use Google Appengine and Google Cloud SQL. I like that once setup I don't have to think about scaling my app at all and don't realy have to think about infrastructure. I can focus on developing my actual software code. Cons AppEngine can be a little tricky to setup whether you are on the Standard environment (limited libraries but faster deploys and cheaper) or the Flexible environment (totally infinite environment since you package everything up into a docker container, slower to deploy, more expensive) but once you do your infrastructure is done. Can be easily visualised when you have knowledge on other Cloud providers. gcloud cli are very easy and much better than other Cloud sdks. Cons Web Interface is very basic and less interactive. Getting certain monitoring stuffs are a bit difficult like generating some utilisation report from the bucket. Cons The user interface is confusing for users coming from AWS or Microsoft Azure.
