Comments: I think this is a great product and I can see it being a valued resource in any organization.

Pros: NXT is very easy to use and the tiles can be moved around to create a custom view. In addition, the mapping feature with lists makes it very easy to see who is in an area we are planning a visit for. Because it is so easy to use, it allows others to create their own lists easily.

Cons: There is not a more granular query tool incorporated yet or reporting so back office users can also take advantage of this view.

Pros: RENXT is a wonderful leap forward for those that are currently using RE7. First off, it is online, so you can login anywhere and on any device, which for me makes it far more useful to fundraisers. Ultimately, I am a big fan and I think it makes your fundraisers spend more time reaching out to key donors, rather than working on back end tracking and database work. Also, what I appreciate the most is that I do not have to hire people who have RE experience anymore, because it is so easy for them to immediately start working out of NXT. It opens up the candidate pool!

Cons: This is a general blackbaud critique, but their customer service is not always the best. They can be difficult to get in touch with and you sometimes have to wait for a while to get a question answered or problem fixed. I will say, we have not had any issues with NXT in particular, where we needed to call them though.

Pros: Really easy to use and has many options. Easy to setup reports and dashboards for users based on Appeals/Funds and Campaigns.

Cons: I wouldn't consider this a Con but everything within the system should be documented. People who has rights to add random fields into RE make it harder for reporting and clean-up years later.

Comments: This will be a 5-star product with just a few tweaks, and I believe Blackbaud is working on improving the things reviewers have listed in the "Cons" section.

Pros: The entire user interface is a huge improvement from the RE database view. The navigation is intuitive and the list functionality is very user friendly.

Cons: It doesn't communicate flawlessly with the RE database view, and some features from RE are not available in NXT.

Comments: Never again!

Pros: Supposedly, it's the industry standard. It's powerful, it has been around forever. At first glance, has all the functionality one would need.

Cons: Terribly difficult to use. Frequent technical difficulties. Does not interface well with the related product, Financial Edge. Slow response time when entering Actions. Much duplicate entry required when entering Actions and Notes. Salutations offered when entering a new account are "wonky". Way too little bang for the buck. Reporting awful and difficult.

Comments: Overall, Raiser's Edge is a great product with a lot of functionality. It can be pricey, but my research shows me that for many major fundraising organizations, they all use it. Raiser's Edge is the industry standard. If your organization uses it, I would not migrate away from it. If your organization is not using, it might be a worthwhile investment for the functionality it provides.

Pros: Relatively easy to use. Great functionality as a constituent database and donor giving software. Definitely top of the line.

Cons: Multiple modules needed for credit card processing, events, education/alumni. Each module is additional cost. Conversioncost could be high if converting away from Raiser's Edge due to its complexity compared to other providers. Customer support can take a long time to get through via phone. Sales really pushes to move you RE-NXT, which is cloud-based and costs several thousand more than server-based RE.

Comments: Blackbaud does a great job updating their software and I believe that they will continue to flesh out their programs and deliver top-quality builds as time moves forward.

Pros: Raiser's Edge NXT is truly a next generation product in fundraising. The user interface is smooth and responsive, the organization of data is comprehensive, and the analytics are top notch. It does a fantastic job in keeping the users up to date and aware of what needs to be done.

Cons: If you don't keep up with data entry the system will quickly fall behind. It really needs to be done the way Blackbaud outlines it for the system to function properly. Not all features are fully built out, so you'll find yourself if database view regularly.

Pros: We consider Raiser's Edge to be the Cadillac of Fund Raising Software. The new RE NXT is very useful for the Executive Staff.

Cons: It is a disparate system. Getting data to Raiser's Edge requires an import. Getting data to our ERP requires an export.

Overall: We migrated from Jenzabar's Poise system. This gives access to our Constituent data in a very useful interface.

Pros: Being cloud based, RE NXT is great for on-the-go fundraisers. It is also a great UI and being able to drill into records is beneficial.

Cons: The filtering in lists is not as flexible as database view. There are queries that still need to be done in database because NXT doesn't provide enough filtering criteria. For instance, it is necessary for us to use "not one of" or "does not equal" in our filtering but NXT doesn't have that capability at this time. Also, it is concerning that when merging records in database view, data that was entered via NXT may not merge and will be lost if the record is deleted during the merge.

Pros: I love that you have a quick glance at the date within The Raiser's Edge without having to log into the database view and search all over for what you need.

Cons: You are not able to make a lot of changes to data when you are in RE NXT. You still have to log into the database view to make changes to the constituent record. This includes combining records when duplicates are found.

Comments: I would not recommend it for small organizations.

Pros: Raiser's Edge has wonderful reporting capabilities. It definitely personifies garbage in, garbage out though, so you want to be sure to set things up the correct way right from the beginning. Also if you want to be able to quantify your data you have to put in fields that you can do so - not something like notes.

Cons: It is not the easiest to learn and I don't feel like we ever used the full capability of the software. I wish there were more opportunities for general training's using it and learning how other companies are utilizing it.

Comments: If Blackbaud could speed up the connection to the Database View Raiser's Edge NXT would be great!

Pros: The Web View portion of the software is amazing! You can search for constituents much more easily than you could by what is now called the "Database View". The interactions are great even for mobile.

Cons: Compared to when we were hosted on-premises the data entry through the "Database View" is slow. We have also struggled with some server issues on their hosting. We traded more functionality for lower efficiency unfortunately.

Pros: The software is intuitive for those who have experience in database management. It's ideal for large-scale non-profit organizations who handle a multitude of donations and donors.

Comments: Excited to see what NXT will do next!

Pros: NXT is very easy to use especially for those not super computer savvy, it's very user friendly, and I find the modules self explanatory.

Cons: NXT is not yet completely developed so you still need to rely on your database view for some things. Also some modules are laid out differently and use different terms so it takes some getting used to.

Pros: Cloud-based - I like the mobility of having donor information available at any time and any where from my mobile devices. There are many other additional features that make RE unique - it is difficult to list them all.

Cons: Price-- it is still out of reach for smaller non-profits. RE is still considered the top software among development professionals. There are universal properties to databases - but the offerings and modules are more user friendly than other software options. Just wish that it was more feasible for others to purchase and pay for the maintenance.

Overall: Ease of use is a huge benefit- primarily because I have used RE for more than 17 years. I have networked with other uses for quick troubleshooting and support.

Comments: My recommendation is to get formal training if you are going to use the database and give each new staff member the opportunity to be trained by a Raiser's Edge specialist. The database is absolutely worth the time and money if you also invest in your staff's knowledge of it. If two people are doing the same task in even a slightly different way, you can end up with holes in your data. However, if you do get good training, you'll find this database to be well worth it and will assist your fundraising strategies quite well.

Pros: The Raiser's Edge is a very powerful database that can provide great insight into your organization's fundraising. It has the capability to track and report on anything you would ever need to look at for fundraising. The template reports are customizable, which is very helpful. My favorite feature is the query and export combo - I can pull out any piece of information I need to analyze and Raiser's Edge does a good job of getting rid of duplicate information for me. The dashboard feature is also good - you can create multiple dashboards to compare fiscal years, appeals, funds, recent gifts list, summaries, etc. You can also share your dashboard with other users so that everyone can be looking at the same thing.

Cons: Building custom reports from scratch (not using a template) can be challenging to create through Crystal Reports. However, you can usually find a template that you can customize to create a similar report, if not the exact report you want to write. Duplicate records can also be challenging in Raiser's Edge. When Constituents are uploaded to the database from a list or entered manually, Raiser's Edge will not identify duplicates if the name or address is not an exact match. This can be frustrating - for example, it won't recognize a duplicate address if the only difference is between "Street" and "St." in the database. Cleaning up the duplicates is even more challenging. I have needed to export lists of constituents, identify duplicates in Excel, and then go back into Raiser's Edge to merge and delete the duplicate constituent records.

Pros: Raiser's Edge has a great reputation for large organizations, making sure that they have every tool they need to track donors and donations. They are very adaptable and work hard to stay on top of customer needs.

Cons: Raiser's Edge is too big for our company and our department. I don't have time to track my one-time donor's allergies or favorite golf course. Also, because their program is such an in-depth solution, tracking the bare minimum requires a large amount of clicks and screens.

Comments: Support is always super willing to help you with a task. When I first started I used their chat and phone support frequently which was a huge help.

Pros: Can open on any mobile device through a normal web browser making it extremely easy to log in and add your actions. Great for a giving officer to be able to look up a constituents info on the go. Useful analytics on actions, fundraising reports, LYBUNT, etc.

Cons: You cannot add a record straight from NXT. Only can add new constituent records from the desktop version of Raiser's Edge. Their Wealth analytics are decent but I've found better resources from other groups like Wealth Engine or Donor Search.

Pros: The ability to customize to fit our organizations needs. The training was awesome too! Technical support was always available and always came up with an answer even if it was not the answer we wanted.

Cons: Data was hosted so we did not have direct access to our data. Reporting was very limited and you had to know crystal reports to spit any meaningful reports out. Canned reports did not suit our needs. We were not able to connect to our email server in a hsoted environment making the email functionality useless.

Pros: RE NXT is very easy to navigate and colleagues who have little or no experience with the database view are able to find the information they need without a hassle. I like that NXT offers suggestions and specially prepared reports that provide useful information for reigniting lapsed donors and gauging capacity for future asks. I also love the visual analytics offered, as they help to segment and illustrate the entire scope of our constituent base rather than just looking at spreadsheets.

Cons: There are some limitations as to how much information can be added to lists in NXT, making it easier to generate more complex lists in the database view. I also think it would be beneficial to offer a complete guide of all of the training and webinars available as a benefit of NXT, as our team has not taken advantage of many useful resources because we have not been aware of them.

Comments: Overall the Raisers Edge platform has served our organization well for many years, but as we have been looking to modernize our donor management solution, we have found that Blackbaud's NXT platform has been very slow and bug-prone. We are evaluating other more modern solutions as well.

Pros: Very extensive options Long-standing company so they are not a fly-by-night operation Extensive training solutions (but necessary with level of complexity)

Cons: Clunky user interface NXT platform is slow to migrate full functionality (still does not have gift entry) More expensive than many other solutions now on the market

Overall: RE NXT is a great system for tracking donor relations for nonprofits. RE has been the standard CRM for nonprofits for a while but their improved NXT edition is worth the extra expense. Wealth screening, enhanced features like donor mapping, and customized reporting are all improved features of NXT over the base RE 7 edition. It is an essential tool in building deeper relationships with donors and thus in raising more money to support your nonprofit.

Recommendations to other buyers: It is essential for nonprofits who want to raise significant funds to resource their missions.

Comments: I used Raiser's Edge for quite some time as the coordinator for a large cohort of members. It was a huge pain in the butt. The company ended up migrating away from RE simply because the software was incredibly clunky and looked like something out of the 90s, with functionality that wasn't that much better. Editing records was a pain, and conducting searches required a pretty thorough knowledge of Boolean terminology. Even then, it would sometimes take pretty esoteric knowledge to locate things properly. Batch processing took what seemed like a lifetime every time. Running reports was neither easy nor particularly useful, and the export formats were not typically the most useful (e.g. excel sheets).

User-friendly means that the team actually uses the software.

Comments: Your DBA will still primarily be in the database view, but fundraisers - especially those on the road, will love the simplicity and functionality of NXT

Pros: The NXT interface is very user-friendly and works well on computer, tablet or phone. Of course, there are some tasks that can only be done in the database - but most of those tasks should be done by the "Super User" or DBA anyway. Think of NXT as the "lite" version of the software - functions that gift officers and casual users need but none of the "scary" bells and whistles of the database.

Cons: Blackbaud is constantly rolling out enhancements and upgrades to the product, so cons don't stay relevant for long.

Pros: It has a very user-friendly interface. Those not technologically-savvy can figure it out pretty quickly.

Cons: The "list" function has limited options and so does not function as well as "query", and the media tab does not necessarily sync both ways, I guess. It's generally "what-you-see-is-what-you-get" and there's not a lot of options to use queries, exports, or reports from here.

Pros: already completed this on the first page.

Cons: already completed this on the first page.

Overall: I used this product for 2 years while working nonprofit and it is a very challenging program to use. The national organization only had 30 users and at times could not access due to other users. There were processes in place so as a user, I could not access. I could not print reports and had to be submitted 2 weeks prior to needing. It is very costly and could be better utilized for larger organizations that have the finances to purchase and to grow in to.

Recommendations to other buyers: think big and expensive and complicated.

Comments: NXT has lots of promise and potential, but it is not ready for many institutions currently using RE7. See pros and cons for details.

Pros: Intuitive and well designed front-end. Promising new features and functionally. Preservation of existing data structures.

Cons: Lacks robust API for accessing data for custom reporting. The front-end can not support many existing uses of attributes in RE7.

Recommendations to other buyers: A future release at the end of 2017 should address the API requirement and address flexibility around using attributes in NXT. Check back then.

Pros: I use Raiser's Edge as our donor database and the data entry, reporting features are really updated. However, when they came out with NXT, it was a game changer. NXT is amazing! It has a very attractive interface and super user friendly. As soon as you search for a record, consecutive years and all information on the donor is clear to see and it lets you know which donors you should be reaching out to. You could assign donors to others to initiate contact. You could easily access information on your mobile device. It takes the Raiser's Edge data entry interface and completely gives it a makeover. You are easily able to review giving history and all donor information on one page and very clearly.

Cons: The only thing I don't like about NXT is that the consecutive years aren't always the same as in the donor records in the database version.

Comments: When I started my job as new development director, there was not a CRM donor database. I reviewed several products and decided on Raisers Edge NXT. It's an excellent choice to start building a donor management system that will grow with the Development efforts for the healthcare organization for years to come. It's an opportunity to build the program from the ground up with a clean system.

Comments: Before we were using Raisers edge we had no clear view of where our fundraising efforts were succeeding and where we were lagging. With Raisers Edge we get so much more insight into our organization.

Pros: Donor retention reporting and max min suggest gift amounts are areas that we always wanted to have abilities in but without a tool like RE NXT delving into the analytics is no easy task.

Cons: The software as a service approach and the price. I won't say it's a con but I can see it being an expensive product if you aren't going to utilize lots of the features. On the other hand it gives you room to grow and scale.

Recommendations to other buyers: Research research research. Know what you need and make sure you don't buy a product that has more features than you can make use of.

Comments: We have been Raiser's Edge users for more than 15 years and this past summer we upgraded to RENXT. Our fundraisers are excited about the web version of Raiser's Edge which makes their job so much easier.

Cons: I can't really say there are any "cons."

Comments: Working with Raiser's Edge, I've had the opportunity to see and utilize the many features it has - including soft credits, organizations, connecting records, and the ability to connect to Financial Edge. It provides important capabilities beyond other donor databases, such as Donor Perfect, though is significantly more expensive. For nonprofits with scale and financial resources, I do recommend Raiser's Edge with at least two staff managing it on a daily basis.

Pros: Multiple features, user-friendly

Cons: Some issues with hosted databases and update rollouts

Pros: It has everything you would possible need.

Cons: It is impossible to learn.

Overall: Raiser's Edge is massive! It has everything you would possibly need in fundraising software. Downside. It has everything you need in fundraising software. Because of its size you will never be a master of Raiser's Edge, but if you have a large organization you need it. If you do events, mailings, campaigns, etc. I would designate one person to be an expert on one area.

Recommendations to other buyers: Blackbaud has no written manual anymore. Its all online in small pieces, so its hard to even print out. Its a pain to switch between the help website to Raiser's Edge.

Cons: While it is excellent, if you put garbage data in or you don't take the time to implement correctly, it will not help you achieve your fundraising goals. It can be complicated and expensive.

Overall: I've used Raisers Edge for years and it is still the industry standard for larger nonprofits that don't want to create their own software. The most important caveat is how much time a nonprofit spends on implementation.

Recommendations to other buyers: It is the industry standard, so you will find that most fundraisers have experience using it. This can be very helpful in hiring people who can hit the ground running.

Comments: Solid CRM system for nonprofits. This software was built to serve organizations with complex record management systems. There are many levels and options for customization but it helps for there to be one person or team of people who are trained to manage it so that it stays uniform and records aren't repeated.

Cons: Difficult to keep uniform and can be expensive.

Comments: We've been using Raiser's Edge NXT for almost a year now. It makes it much easier for our development officers to look up information quickly and customize their view so they see what is most important for them.

Pros: You can attach pictures to the profile and see what is most important to you each time you open up a record by customizing your view.

Cons: Other features of The Raiser's Edge have not yet been migrated over to this version like query, export, dashboards, and reports. As a result not everyone can do their work in this version.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would highly recommend this product. Blackbaud is on the right track and the current version is built to make it easier for management and development officers to find information quickly.

Comments: I've been using RE since earl 2014, although not on the level I currently use it. There's been a bit of a learning curve at my current position vs. at my previous position, but thanks to BBCON, Bill Connors' book, and lots of online tutorials, I've been able to gain a bit more confidence with the program each day, especially when it comes to pulling queries. One thing I've found helpful is that if there's a step I tend to forget, like remembering to exclude inactive or deceased constituents, writing that step on a Post-it note and sticking it to my computer has been immensely helpful.

Comments: I previously worked with many other database interface software in the for-profit world, where I worked for the first 15+ years of my career. So when I started using Raiser's Edge, it came relatively easily to me as it reminded me of other previously used interfaces. We have a large database of over 350K donors, and Raiser's Edge has no problem handling our volume. The Raiser's Edge 7 is now showing some age in how it's structured and functions, but mostly in look and feel. We have been using Raiser's Edge with our database on premise. With the seismic shift into cloud computing, we are planning to move to a Blackbaud hosted environment, which will, in and of itself, bring us closer to feeling like it's not the 90's anymore. But the good news is that Blackbaud knows that the look and feel, usability, functionality and ability to play well with others need to catch up with the rest of technology, and so they introduced Raiser's Edge NXT a couple of years ago. RE NXT looks modern and fills many checkboxes of what fundraisers need to do their jobs in today's environment. (See Pros to find out more of what I like about RE NXT.)

Pros: Raiser's Edge 7 gives you the tools (and/or gives you optional add-on tools) to manage your donor relationships and data in just about any way you can think of. It's a great all-purpose fundraising tool for non-profit organizations. Raiser's Edge NXT (RE NXT) is the next generation, and we are most likely moving to that within the next year. The awesome things about RE NXT are 1. User access to your donor data from anywhere on any device, 2. Unintimidating ease of use for non-techie and techie alike, 3. Open API which means lots of more fantastic compatible tools are being built by Blackbaud partners, 4. Unlimited users - which means now our Board members and many other stakeholders will be able to login and get their reports on the dashboard instead of waiting for emailed or, even worse, hard-copy reports to be run and delivered to them by our staff.

Cons: My experience with the Customer Support has been less than stellar. Sometimes it seems like the Customer Support's go-to answer is, "No" or "No, you can't do that." Unless the answer is, "Well, if you buy this other tool we have, then you can do that." But since we have no plans to move off of Blackbaud products, thank heavens they have an amazing Blackbaud Community network where you can ask any question and get tons of advice from folks just like you working in this software daily. Blackbaud Community is now the first place I go when I need support. Many times the question I have has already been asked and answered in the past, and so just searching through the discussions will get me my answer or point me in the right direction, instead of wasting time trying to re-invent the wheel. My fairly high rating in this review on Customer Support is mostly because of Blackbaud Community and our fairly newly assigned account manager.

Recommendations to other buyers: Join and utilize the Blackbaud Community. They will save your life. Get the Blackbaud Learn subscription and take the courses, which are very professional and invaluable learning tools. You would never expect an employee to just be able to figure out another software like Excel or SQL without ever having had training of some kind, and Blackbaud software is no different. You need ongoing training to get the full benefit of using Raiser's Edge. If you join Blackbaud Champions (basically the users club), you end up with perks like discounts on going to bbcon, and going to bbcon, in turn, gets you discounts, and some freebies even, on Blackbaud products.

Comments: I've been using Raiser's Edge for over 10 years to manage development, event, and membership data.

Pros: Raiser's Edge is the most robust and developed software in the fundraising field. The software is incredibly customizable and holds a mass amount of data. Data is easy to get in and out of the system, provided you have a trained staff member. There are hundreds of canned reports plus the ability to create custom reports. The customer support team at Blackbaud is very responsive and there are many online training materials and classes available.

Cons: Raiser's Edge may not be affordable for smaller organizations and the software is not very user friendly for non-data minded individuals. Using the software correctly requires that you have a knowledgeable person on your team who can spend time customizing the product and learning the ins and outs of reporting, exporting, importing, etc.

Recommendations to other buyers: Contact Blackbaud and schedule a demo! Blackbaud has over 20 product lines that meet the needs and budgets of non-profits (and for-profits) of all sizes. And once you see the product - don't be overwhelmed by all it can do!

Comments: Raiser's Edge NXT has a bright future, especially when combined with other Blackbaud (NXT or otherwise) products.

Pros: The navigation of the NXT products is easy to learn and intuitive. The format of constituent pages is clean, which is makes it very simple to get an overall picture of the donor. The built-in overview and reporting features are crisp and elegant. It is very simple to see how far a campaign has gone to completing its goal or useful information about specific appeals. RENXT does a fantastic job of showing trends over time.

Cons: The program houses huge amounts of information and the creation of reports hasn't been fully built out, yet. Even when that is completed, if you don't have time to spend in educating yourself on the features you'll be missing out or under-utilizing the program. At this stage in the program development you'll still be utilizing the database view quite a bit to make changes. That will require you to pick up knowledge on two similar, yet separate programs. This could be a problem if you've never used Raiser's Edge before.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are currently utilizing Raiser's Edge and haven't moved to NXT, yet, now is a good time to get things going. You will still find yourself in the initial phases of development, but not too young to find issues with the program. As it continues the growing process, you'll be glad you were on board to start. If you aren't using Raiser's Edge or other Blackbaud products make sure you have the time and personnel needed to utilize the reporting features. If you don't have any need to analyze your work and how effective it is and are just looking for a place to store information, RE NXT may not be for you.

Comments: Raiser's Edge is great for development departments of medium to large nonprofits, schools, etc, especially those with sophisticated fundraising programs. It may not be the best fit for small nonprofits with limited resources in the budget. The Raiser's Edge is an excellent software for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship and allows for easy tracking of each constituent's relationship with your organization. Raisers Edge is being used by the development department to track donations and our constituents relationship to us as an organization. Our database is not large but the relationships are long and often complicated. A database like this allows us to see the constituent and all of the interactions we have had with them over the years. The Raisers Edge in combination with some of the add on's like online express have been helpful for seamless tracking of newsletter readership and conversions from our website and online publications.

Pros: Queries are what we use to create lists of constituents with particular behaviors or similarities that we can use for creating mailings, invitations or actions. An amazing tool with endless possibilities. Raisers Edge is a beast of a program. It can do just about anything you could want for a donor database and Blackbaud offers several supplemental solutions that seamlessly integrate. Donor stewardship, from first contact, to donation, to acknowledgement letter, is a process that is handled particularly well with Raisers Edge

Cons: The program is quite complicated and if data is not entered correctly than the program just won't work well. "bad in, bad out'. But that is not unique to this program. That some of the features that I like to use like global changes for adding appeals is pretty buried and the way of finding it convoluted. Attributes could be more flexible: like I would prefer to have all events under one table (which it can do now) but then there is no step further where I can then say whether they RSVP and then also whether they attended and their name for easy export for nametags.

Recommendations to other buyers: Tracking all of this information allows us to behave in a much more professional manner. Repeat solicitations, not understanding donor relationships and so many other simple slip ups are totally avoided with a program like Raisers Edge. Invaluable! We are able to segment and evaluate what work and what does not. We are able to track our appeals, mailings and other correspondence to see what action brings the most in donations.

Comments: We recently upgraded to Raisers Edge with NXT and have advanced our development team's work a great deal. We were working with a simple database system before and had outgrown it. Being able to access NXT via computer or phone, etc., means we don't have to just be in the office- we can stay informed and have all our information at our fingertips even when we're traveling and meeting with donors or prospects.

Pros: I love how easy it is to navigate and interpret data. The different types of reporting also has led to a whole new world of information for us to unlock, that was not easy to access or even possible with our old system. We are already becoming more efficient and coming up with new ideas for expanding our development work. As a non-profit, this has been huge for us.

Cons: There is a learning curve, as the software is more in-depth and complex that what we were working with before, but trainings offered through Blackbaud and the online manuals have been incredibly helpful and easy to use.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you are tracking a lot of donors and need to be able to interpret complex configurations of data or travel a lot for donor relations, NXT is an incredibly helpful tool. Being able to access information at any given time and look at reports to aid in solicitations is a great advantage.

Comments: I have only used Raiser's Edge NXT for a couple of Months. So far I find it being very easy to use and functional. For someone who isn't that tech-savy and a first time user I find it very easy to cope with. I have also watch numerous how-to videos which have helped me use the software. I will recommend NXT to anyone who is new to the fundraising world.

Comments: NXT is fantastic for giving me a 360 picture of a donor quickly when I'm running from one donor meeting to another. The ability and opportunity to create actions and call reports right after a meeting is fantastic!

Pros: I like the viewing capability and the ability to upload documents.

Cons: When uploading documents via NXT they are not necessarily in the normal 'desktop' RE constituent record.

Comments: I have had great experience with Raiser's Edge NXT. It is easy to use and provides an overall view of the constituents for the fundraiser's on the go. It has predefined reports/queries/dashboards. The dashboards gives the user the ability to view all the necessary information in one place when communicating with the constituent. Also the action updates are quick and easy through NXT.

Recommendations to other buyers: If your database ins't clean, I wouldn't recommand using NXT until you clean the database (de-dupe records/gifts). NXT provides information that already exists in Raiser's Edge and if the data isn't valid the information you see wouldn't be valid either. Create accurate business rules and provide training prior to using NXT.

Comments: This is an amazing software that achieves the lofty goal of putting information into the hands of the executive fundraiser. People familiar with the Blackbaud line of fundraising software understand that while it is the world class solution for higher ed and large non-profits, the price is a clunky and user unfriendly experience. RE7 just isn't fun but NXT takes a stab at changing that. Blackbaud's first major overhaul since Version 7, NXT brings fundraising to the mobile platform via SaaS in the way Apple's iOS does across all devices in a polished, easy to access and easy to read way. For 3 years running I had tried to expand the use of Raiser's Edge to our primary solicitors without success and only with NXT did the transition stick. We now have 14 volunteers working in the field using NXT on the fly and reporting that they are using information as well as entering information. As DBA I can see and control information choices by limiting open text fields. It reports seamless integration with their eTapestry although we have not gotten their yet. But their first cloud based product is definitely worth demoing. We have loved the switch. One downside is the price - it is all custom pricing although they will tell you it is based on database size. Pricey but on the balance worth it .

Comments: Blackbaud NXT responds to exactly what fundraisers need by harnessing automated analytics to inform and direct actions of gift officers. The platform is much more modern than the traditional database view, easy to use, and easy to look at with many dashboard style widgets. While RE is making the right changes, this product was launched early without all the user roles yet ready for release. The ongoing functionality and feature changes can be a bit of a challenge for training and using to the tool with best practices.

Pros: The product is the standard by which all non-profit donor management software should be measured and Blackbaud is a great company with incredible staff who really try to help their customers to find the right products to enable them to achieve their organizational objectives.

Cons: The product can be intimidating for people who are not comfortable with computers/software and who are resistant to training.

Recommendations to other buyers: Talk to Blackbaud, they have a great catalog of products for all sizes of non-profit organizations.

Pros: NXT allows fundraisers to easily visualize how their hard work is paying off through various analytics. It is also a great way to see what needs to be cleaned up on the back-end of your database. The program also allows fundraisers to pull their own reports freeing up time for your database users.

Cons: It really is a great product, however, if your database isn't clean or there are holes in your tracking methods you have to have the time to dedicate to cleaning it up. It would also be nice if there was more functionality for event reporting and tracking.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take the time to discuss if your organization is ready for NXT and will be able to utilize a majority of its functionality. It's a worthwhile investment, but could easily mean wasted money if you're not prepared for implementation.

Pros: I love the Raiser's Edge for constituent relationship management, prospect management, gift recording, stewardship, events - it has everything I need! Blackbaud is a great company that really helps when you have questions.

Cons: Blackbaud is a behemoth of a company, and can be quite pushy with sales.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure that you need something as robust as the Raiser's Edge before purchasing it. If you will use it fully, then go for it! If you don't have that many constituents/gifts/etc., then maybe look at another product.

Pros: It is a great organization tool and perfect for setting up a system of having many different users. I like that users can have limited access so that there is no worry about anyone accidentally messing up certain areas, and those users don't need to learn how to navigate more than they need to.

Cons: Navigating the software is not always the easiest. For someone who uses in-depth aspects of it, but not very frequently, it can be very difficult to find something or make simple changes.

Recommendations to other buyers: Utilize the training material available with RE, or pay for the training series. There is a lot to learn, and it is a lot more useful with the knowledge needed to use it.

Pros: It allows the management team to personalize the profile of each donor and and easy to pull our reports for donation history and interests.

Pros: The format and structure of viewing information and reporting is easier to use, especially for those at your organization who need to access information in the database, but do not actually work in Raiser's Edge.

Cons: The search feature only shows a few results when typing in a name, you need to type in the full name in some cases to find the person you are looking for.

Recommendations to other buyers: Consider how someone who is not a data base administrator might have trouble using the traditional Raiser's Edge, and how the friendly view of RENXT would be better for them.

Pros: I love how many capabilities that this database has to offer. There are so many ways to get to know your donors, track giving, and a variety of grouping/reporting tools. Everyone I have worked with at Blackbaud has been really friendly and willing to help. I have used Raiser's Edge at both a small organization as well as medium to large organization in terms of budgets and gifts coming in. I love using it and the fluidity of the tasks. At the small organization, we also utilized the membership module.

Cons: Raiser's Edge capabilities are overwhelming when you are learning and takes a long time to really understand even the basic capabilities. When working with Blackbaud you have several people connected to your account. For example, you have an Account Rep, a Target Analytics Rep, a Training Rep, ect. It can be confusing when it is time to renew your policy and you want to make changes.

Recommendations to other buyers: Keep in mind your budget, the number of gifts you bring in, and what you want to use it for. Seek out others in your community who utilize the different software to talk to actual users.

Pros: The product is built specifically for fundraising, and it encompasses anything you would need for your fundraising database. It is customizable through many fields so you can track whatever you'd like. Blackbaud is extremely customer-focused, and provide great tech support and solutions so customers can get the most of The Raiser's Edge.

Cons: The hard part about such a comprehensive database is the learning curve and training required to master the product. However, once the time and training is invested, it is such a valuable resource that it is highly worth the effort.

Recommendations to other buyers: I have dabbled in other fundraising software, and I would never want to use anything else. Nothing else is as comprehensive as The Raiser's Edge.

Pros: RE NXT really brings Raiser's Edge to the next level. We were considering transitioning away from Raiser's Edge all together, but RE NXT has really help us rediscover the enormous potential of RE and Blackbaud products. It is so easy to use, and it includes great extras such as Online Express, the events module and data enrichment services (AddressFinder, EmailFinder, etc.) Wealth ratings and minimum/maximum suggested ask amounts are also an amazing resource to have, and we are already using them to identify donors with higher giving potential and make plans accordingly.

Cons: Figuring out how to divide the use between Raiser's Edge (database view) and RE NXT (webview) may take sometime, but the division actually makes it easier to select users for each. RE NXT is (currently) mainly a tool for the development team and fundraisers to access data and record/update actions from anywhere, and RE database view is really only for the main staff members in charge of recording gifts, updating records and making reports, etc.

Recommendations to other buyers: If your organization currently uses Raiser's Edge, I would definitely recommend you to consider making the transition. It makes it so much easier to work with and analyze your constituents and donors to prioritize your work and actions.

Pros: Raiser's Edge is a powerhouse for the management of donor data. It is easy to track a donor's contributions and see their giving history at a glance. I especially like the ability to identify each donor with a constituent code, which makes it very convenient to pull reports on specific groups of people who donate (like volunteers, board members, or staff). With the ability to see giving trends in multiple ways, data analysis is much more comprehensive and quicker to review than with other similar software types I have used.

Cons: Certain custom reports or queries can be difficult to design for the desired output, requiring help from Customer Service. Unfortunately, the wait time to speak with a live customer service representative is always VERY long. The online chat option can work in some instances, but not always. It would be nice if there were more representatives available to help via phone. The product is also very expensive and there are additional costs to add new components, even modifications like changes to the online interface. Every new development for the product comes with a high price.

Recommendations to other buyers: Look into the customer service available and ease of use for compiling the reports you will need. Find out whether you can add components as they are developed or as you need, and see what the fees are like.

Pros: Blackbaud is the largest vendor in this arena and they offer an extensive support system. Raiser's Edge can do a lot of things and they offer many options to expand and add capabilities.

Cons: Personally, I think it's overkill for a small shop like ours. It's fairly complicated and not customizable. While it can do many other things, it isn't always easy to figure them out and each additional capability comes with a significant cost. I think the older version, hosted on your own computer or network is past it's prime - which is why they are pushing NXT.

Recommendations to other buyers: Try out "sandbox" versions of alternatives before getting set on one. If you are a large shop with multiple users, RE might be good for you. If you are smaller, look at other options. Make a check list of your "must have" and "would like to have" items before you begin your comparisons. And think about cloud-based alternatives with more integration and on-line capabilities. It's not a bad product and is very reliable. It's just not the perfect solution for everyone.

Pros: It is easy to use and creates a very organized donor database. Each donor's profile can be extremely organized and go very in depth in terms of keeping track of your type of contact with the donor, when that was, and what their preferences are regarding outreach and contact.

Cons: Not many negatives. However, there are a lot of resources that can be used on Raiser's Edge so if you are new it could be overwhelming at first.

Recommendations to other buyers: Definitely a strong database that well-known nonprofits use and trust with their records.

Pros: The software is great for constituent management and tracking donors and gifts for non profits.

Cons: The vendor fees are extremely high. Once you commit to their software, they have you. It is near impossible to leave. They used to have great customer support. Their staff was always knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile to help you with their product. Now you never hear from your account executive unless you contact them and then they pass you off to one of their assistants. Their assistants push you into buying products you do not need and then when you do purchase a product from them and sign the agreement to purchase, you cannot get answers. We purchased an add on module, we contacted them and we were passed to the assistant to our account executive. The assistant got the paperwork signed and it has been over a month and the add on product has still not been activated in our database. I have emailed and called the account executive assistant because we cannot talk to the account executive, i have talked to customer support and have been passed around. This is not the first time I have had this SAME experience from the new Blackbaud. New leadership appears to be clueless to the horrible experiences from their staff.

Recommendations to other buyers: be honest. You know they charge for every little change.
