The NXT interface is clean and very easy to learn and navigate. The reporting features are MUCH better than in the old Financial Edge, and many of the other new features they are adding (like setting up a bank feed to automatically download transactions into FE NXT for ease of transaction matching and reconciliation) are increasing our efficiency. Cons The roll-out of new features has been slower than I had originally anticipated when we moved to this platform over a year ago, and that's made it a little harder to get some of our staff to adopt use of the new platform over the old "classic" database view. We are able to easily move information from there into Financial Edge, which limits the potential for errors. Plus, we are utilizing less time by not having to type the same information over. But integrating with the various modules offered such as registrar and Raiser's Edge doesn't work easily without training Cons The entries are redundant and each entry takes a good deal of time to complete. There is no intuitive fill-in as you find with an application like QuickBooks. For the same reason there are fewer errors. Extracting the exact data and reports requires training. Pros The dashboard and real time updates enable us to get an accurate update on accounts. We can get an immediate picture of budgets etc. Cons Exporting excel spreadsheets and crystal reports is an issue. September 20, 2016 4.0 Pros Financial Edge offers a holistic way to view your organizations financials from payroll to charitable contributions and accounts payable to fixed assets. Because the product can integrate with Raiser's Edge it's a great way to improve efficiency and communication between your finance and development departments while eliminating duplicate work in terms of data entry. It's a robust system that can replace less flexible systems such as Quick Books. Cons Initial set-up and integration with Raiser's Edge can take a very long time. Before you're up and running smoothly, it's estimated that you'll need to invest 6 months to a years worth of work. While comprehensive, Financial Edge is inflexible in terms of account coding. Financial Edge is a fully-integrated solution that is flexible enough for all the variations that come up in our particular office. Blackbaud has phenomenal customer support. I like their specific focus on non-profits. Cons Because Financial Edge is so flexible, there are many ways to accomplish similar tasks which sometimes makes the initial setup and early use of the system a challenge for newer users. It can talk directly to Raiser's Edge. Cons The wait time for customer support has never been less than thirty minutes and usually more. The program is very sophisticated with strong reporting functionality. However, that functionality implies a level of knowledge that most accounting staff do not have. Pros The ease of the development staff to get the needed information and becoming self sufficient. NXT is very user friendly. Cons I don’t get to use the software as much as I would like because most of my work is still done in FE7. We should have stayed with the regular old FE. Pros Nothing. What was promised was not delivered. We have two locations and used to be able to function on one platform. In the cloud based version we have to log in and log out to go from one location to the other. It has definitely slowed our productivity. Pros We are a private school and use Financial Edge NXT for our daily accounting/finance operations. Very self explanatory and easy to use. A variety of reportings available. Easy to add new vendors in the system. Adding a new invoice is fairly simple. Cons Hope they quickly change to the web view faster, so we don't have to switch between web and database view. It provides great functionality by allowing reports to be created ad hoc using the visual chart organizer, which is helpful for producing reports specific to audit or tax prep. Also, the ability to run queries which can be exported into excel format makes reconciliations simpler. It would be nice if functionality across modules were similar. For example, adjustments to AP and AR are clear and easy to do but it is more difficult for adjustments to cash management. Requests to the support center are returned quickly and with positive results. The combination of Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge creates a seamless process between constituent (donor) management, including contributions and the subsequent recording in the financial software. This is very helpful as you can search directly from FE and it will open a donor record in RE. Blackbaud also hosts an annual convention which allows users to meet with other organizations to discuss solutions to common problems and they also hold many short seminars during the convention which were extremely valuable. All in all, it is much improved over QuickBooks, which we used prior to FE. Review Source RM Randall M. The report looks a lot cleaner, and having click-through capabilities on the reports is huge. Cons There are still features that have not been migrated, including some we use regularly. I'm hoping all AP and budget features are migrated soon so we don't have to keep toggling between the interfaces. Make sure to ask a lot of questions and ensure you get the answers you are looking for. Also- check references for the system to ensure it can do what the developer tells you it can do. Pros The system seemed slick and able to integrate with other vendors (they had marketplace partners that they integrated with). I also liked the system in that it linked with the Development software that we currently use. The system also offered nice dashboard capabilities and reporting that appeared to be easy to customize. In addition, the system was cloud based on would come with frequent updates (that would not result in software changes on individual workstations and data transfers etc.). Cons When evaluating this product I found that the customer support was less than stellar (and that was when they were trying to sell me the system). I asked several questions related to system capabilities surrounding specific processes the agency had (and whether the system could make those processes more efficient). So if you have the manpower and finances to use this platform it will be very useful on lots of levels but not for the faint-hearted small non-profit to go alone with Blackbaud. Pros Blackbaud is the platform we use to collect our donations online or at least to manage them and account for them. We are such a small enterprise that our fees are paid for by a collective/support agent so we are not encumbered with fees to Blackbaud. We pay fees direct to the agency. Good for collaboratives to ease the expense. Cons Too complex to set up especially on several devices. I do not quite understand the relationship with Citrix Receiver, but I have had problems re-downloading that software and connecting it to Financial Edge platform. Review Source DM Debbie M. As at this time I cannot be positive about this product. It is so horrible that it cost us over $5,000 more for our yearly audit. Cons It's expensive, and Blackbaud did nothing special to offer quality service. It has been problem after problem, and when you talk to someone, you get "That's not included in your scope of work." Our database had an index problem. They took it early October 2014, and to this day, we have not received any contact in regards to our database. It is so unstable, when you use payroll pay out Vac/or Sick leave you have to manually deduct. They also don't tell about the 3rd-party for reports for payroll taxes. So many issues to list. The features that this offers for reporting are just insane! You may still need to customize a few reports but if you play with the system long enough you can manipulate what is there to work for you. The support team is amazing! They are right there to answer calls and if you are lucky enough to get a good one they might just share an email address with you. Pros Customer support Upload your data input or do data entry, you can do either. Reports are easy to use and read. Cloud-based = work from anywhere Cons We had some issues but with the help of customer support we are working thru them and putting them behind us. Controller Philanthropy Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Very good software for nonprofits of all sizes" October 27, 2016 4.0 I have used Financial Edge 7 for Nonprofits after having used QuickBooks Online, Abila (fka Sage), and Microsoft GP Dynamics for nonprofit financials. I find Financial Edge to be the best of the four softwares that I have used. It is the most intuitive of the four that I have used. The biggest help to me is Blackbaud's outstanding support system. In addition to a great FAQ section on their website and many paid training sessions, Blackbaud offers a free chat service with knowledgeable tech representatives able to assist in most questions. Pros Intuitive mapping of how to complete processes, dynamic reporting and general ledger options, excellent support. Cons No ability to "drill down" into reports (something that is fixed in Financial Edge NXT), some slower processes in general.
