December 28, 2022 5.0 Overall, I’m very satisfied with Square and appreciate its ease of use and handy features. It’s a great option to be able to provide a credit card option to customers. We can pass along the cost of processing, and it’s hassle free. Pros Square is very easy to use and has a lot of great features! It allows me to take credit card payments in person, over the phone, or to email links to customers where they can pay invoices online. I love how much I can customize invoices and provide lots of details and specifics on charges, and I love the “paper trail” I can create with the various reports available. This is an ideal product, designed simply to make life and business easier. And that's exactly what it does. Pros The simple design and ease of use is my favorite! This made taking electronic payment so easy and effortless. Especially during a time where everyone was already stressed enough, contactless payments meant one less stress on everybody. Cons I don't have anything negative to say about this product! It delivers, and for a fraction of what the competitors are charging. What's there not to like? Square POS gets the job done. The user interfase could be more intuitive though, but in general it's ok. Pros I use square POS, but also as an online payment processor linked to Wix. We started using the simple and small POS at our organization, but then we upgraded to the one with the big screen and that was a big change. I particularly like about this one that the client is the one swiping the credit card and has privacy deciding on the tips. It allows to start and end the cash drawer, which helps to control the cash better. I also like that when there is no connection it goes to offline mode and one can still run transactions with it. Cons The part that I am unsatisfied with is that the integration with WIX does not capture names of events in the description of each transaction. Therefore it's tricky to categorize those transactions in the different income classes for our books. I have to do that by reconciling manually wix reports with square's. When I started working in the organization both were being used, since we had the investment of the Square POS already, which are pricey, we continued to use Square. Cons My main issue is when it goes globally down as it did recently, it leaves us small business owners with extremely limited options on accepted and using funds related to our business account linked to Square. I was able to get started with my business, take credit cards and not worry about security. Cons Up to 10k/mo the cost is fine, but past that the fees really rack up and thats when i went with bigger processing company with one of the big companies that did not charge a flat % + swipe fee for each transaction. We can categorize all of our purchases. The reports can give our accountant exactly what is needed. We play a small, flat fee for transactions. Pros So easy to set up! Flat fees! Inexpensive! This software has done it all for us. We are a small library and the transition was so painless for us. Cons The only thing that has caused us issues is that the iPad we purchased with setup is now out of date and unsupported. It covers your whole business (with some caveats) but if you have a retails store it's all that you need. For restaurants they're missing some features, but working on them. Cons That you can clearly tell it's built for retail. If you're a restaurant user some things don't work out. Also the online store, they need to put that thing on a diet. Owner Sporting Goods Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Square delivers plenty of features at low cost" December 30, 2015 5.0 Pros I have run a brick-and-mortar for more than 19 years, and got rid of my traditional merchant account about 5 years ago when fees became outrageous and unstable, and I also needed a mobile payment system as my bank did not offer one. I did some research and settled on Square. The product is intuitive and easy to navigate, and the cost for processing credit cards is reasonable at 2.75% for swiped and 3.5% for manually entered. But that's just the beginning of what they offer: in 2013, the Square Market was an incredible add-on benefit provided for free! If you've needed e-commerce for your business, you know that this service can be costly, so for Square to provide it for merely the cost of each transaction processed is amazing. There are many features to the Market, such as the ability to embed items you are selling into your website, share on social media, etc. While the features aren't customizable to a great extent, it is still a very powerful platform for POS. I particularly appreciate the many reports that can be generated, receipts with custom messages you can send to clients who have shopped online, ability to send invoices, etc. They've added gift cards, which is a nice feature, and they have many third party vendor apps that interface with Square for inventory and financial processes for your business. New features are constantly being added, such as their Customer Engagement to create customer lists and do direct marketing to that list right from Square. This product is a powerful addition to your website and other marketing you may already be doing. I have recommended this product to many small business owners and non-profits, and have been a very happy user since late 2010. Cons I have found very little to dislike. I have seen comments online about deposits being held, a lack of ability to communicate easily with Square (initially, they had no phone customer service, but I always got very quick response from their techs via Twitter in the early days), and difficulty in raising deposit limits. I run two small businesses using Square, and for one of them had to ask for a large increase in daily deposits as my business grew. Like the ability to encrypt CC's so that you don't need to hold a rolodex of cards at the bar and spend much more time closing out tabs. If you are a small business owner doing events, I recommend you to use Square POS, they are very strong with their small portable UX products ! Pros The practicality and smallness of it, but powerful tool because of the features it gives. It's like no matter which event we went, we knew we could set up a small store on the go with all sort of ways to make transactions! We could sell our branded products right there, right now, and accept all sorts of credit/debit cards from customers. Cons Hum, It's not bad per se, it's just I know it will be a hassle, it's to set up the square thingie to our iPad and iPhone. I know I will have to remember all the steps of it and I have forgotten them xD, but it's ok.I know there's a Square Community, so I can count over there to refresh my memory for this. Free reader, easy to use, mobile...It's perfect. For small businesses, I'd also suggest Square - I've worked with the alternative, Clover, and it's so very slow and not as user friendly - but I think Square needs to continue evolving to keep up with those demands. And I'm sure they will given they've already created the flippable platform. Pros Square is simple to use and that's what makes it so popular. The card readers are simple, organizing your inventory is simple. It works really well for me as an independent artist at art fairs and such. I've never run into any trouble using it in that context. The new flip screen platform is also super wonderful for retail stores and cafes as it takes the pressure off of the employee and the awkwardness of asking for tips etc... disappates. It also seems to run smoother by virtue of the platform not running other apps. Definitely love that Square is expanding their market to meet the needs of larger companies. Cons It gets overloaded and laggy pretty quickly when used in a more dense environment. When I've used Square at small businesses as a sales employee, I've experienced lag between pressing on an item and having it go to the item menu or add to the cart. Also, the free square readers that go into your audio jack are awfully temperamental with continued use and you either have to keep re-ordering them, or just buckle down and buy a reader. The only time the latter hasn't worked was when I had to be mobile while taking orders. An ISBN scanner would also be super cool integration and would allow Square to be used in more places.
