Executive Coach Management Consulting Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "The Best Meeting Assistant I've Found" December 18, 2023 5.0 Pros My role these days is split between two primary responsibilities: Testing new AI technologies for my business, and meeting with coaching clients. I've tested dozens of AI tools over the last few weeks, and none have blown me away as quickly and consistently as Fathom. As a coach that's a part of a larger team, almost every one of Fathom's features feels like it was custom-built for me. The ability to easily capture action items, grab high-lights, and highlight successes completely streamlined my follow-up process. Beyond that, the auto-transcription is amongst the best I've used as well, even when transcribing speakers with different accents. I've also especially enjoyed Fathom's ability to turn transcripts into powerful and actionable summaries. Cons The only thing I don't love about Fathom, and I don't know that there's a way around this, is that it has to sit in on the Zoom call as a separate attendee. That feels a little clunky to me, and makes it something I need to explain to those I'm meeting with. I'd love if it just ran in the background without needing to join the call as an attendee. Beyond that, I was initially very excited about Fathom's ability to auto-generate follow-up emails based on the transcript. However, I was very disillusioned with this when I saw the summaries it put together were just a sentence or two long, with a link to the Fathom recording. I think this leaves a LOT of potential on the table, and isn't currently useful or helpful as is. Switched from [Zoom Workplace](https://www.capterra.com/p/144037/Zoom-Video-Conferencing/) While I still run my meetings in Zoom, I no longer need to use Zoom's recording interface. Zoom's recordings, while convenient, offered no real additional functionalities. I was also regularly unimpressed by Zoom's transcription. Review Source SH Scott H. President Medical Devices Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Game Changer for Zoom Meetings" December 19, 2023 5.0 With Fathom, I don't have to worry about taking notes. Even better, I don't have to go through gyrations to get my notes into my CRM. Before, I would either take notes mentally and then type notes into the CRM when the meeting was finished or I would take paper notes and then snap a picture of my notes and attach them to the customer record in the CRM. What happened in practice is that if I didn't type the notes immediately after the call, I'd forget half of what we talked about and if I had paper notes, I frequently (i.e. always) blew off scanning and attaching until I had 20 or more conversations that needed to be uploaded and it became a two-hour task to get it done. Not to mention that picture files are not searchable in any CRM so I had to count on my memory to locate most information. Fathom takes the notes for me, summarizes them and keeps a record of my video and the transcript. I now just go to the Fathom control panel after a call, click on the AI summary option and then click a single button to copy the summary. Then I just paste that summary into my CRM and I'm done. If I need to go back to that conversation, I can review the summary, which has bookmarked sections based on the subject we're discussing at various points in the call, so it's easy enough to identify which part of the conversation has what I'm looking for. Then I can scan the transcript or, when necessary, go back to the video and watch the actual conversation so I have all the context I'm looking for. As a bonus, Fathom also has a single button at the end of a meeting that will email all participants a copy of the video if I want. It's fantastic. Pros I love that it auto-launches when my Zoom meeting begins and that it displays a control panel so I can designate highlights and action items. My favorite feature is the AI summary of the conversation, which has a simple button to copy and I can then paste into my CRM, complete with reference points in the video that I can go directly to and watch if I need the whole context -- or I can read the complete transcript as well. The whole thing is awesome and I don't have to take any paper notes. Cons The trickiest part for me is that I present a lot of PowerPoint slides in presentation mode and the control panel does not work well in this environment. If I am presenting a slide show and I want to highlight a comment or tag an action item, the control panel disappears when I click and I lose the whole thing. I'm not even sure if it comes back after the presentation is over and I stop sharing my screen -- by then I've missed the moment. Support is fast to respond, the product is easy to use, and the service very reliable. No issues at all. Pros We use Fathom for sales followups and building out our repository of customer quotes for marketing. Previously, we were missing a ton of customer insights from trying to take notes during calls, or forgetting to record with other software products. It's so easy to use, affordable, and integrates seamlessly with Hubspot. It's a "can't go back living without" product. Cons Action items for our non-Hubspot users on calls are ending up in hubspot as tasks for the team member on Fathom who set up the call. We end up having to delete a few tasks every call because they aren't for our team. They are more like suggestion action items for our customers/prospects that are fine being only in the ai summaries. Also Fathom's free tier is insanely generous, which it was easy to try out. We ended up upgrading because the paid tier has better templates, action items, and we just discovered the email followups which are a big time saver as well. Previously followups were much slower to be written, didn't contain all the action items, and sometimes wouldn't get sent out at all. Partners have been very impressed with the notes/summaries provided by Fathom and we seldom have to revise them but do have access to the transcript and recordings just in case we need to make revisions to the notes. Pros I really like the summaries Fathom provides including the identification of action items and next steps. It provides a great overall summary with key points/takeaways which minimizes the time I need to use during meeting follow-up. Cons There's not much I don't like about Fathom but it does contribute certain parts of the conversation to the wrong attendee at times and also misspells words at times. I have the Mac app installed, which is easy to install and setup. I use Fathom with almost all my meetings. After the meeting is over you will almost immediately get an email with the full transcript, the recorded video with linked timestamps and multiple summary options. These options are amazing! Depending on the type of meeting (sales call, project kick-off), the summary will be presented in a very meaningful structure that you can use as a base for your next steps. The notes are also linked to timestamps in the original conversation so you can refer back to them for details. There are several options for exporting the conversation and summaries, including Notion, Google Docs, Asana, Gmail, Todoist and MS Word. It also creates a list of the questions that are asked by all attendees, which can be used for so many things. You can download the video if needed and send it to all attendees with a quick link. And when you view all meetings they each have a video thumbnail, which makes it so much easier to sort through. Support has always been top-notch. They answer quickly and are very helpful. Pros Fathom does so much more than just transcribe your meetings. It has a control panel that you can view like a sidebar during your meetings, so you can tell it that you want to "highlight" what you are talking about or mark it as an "action item". With these options, you truely don't have to worry about taking notes and you can focus on the conversation. Cons Perhaps if the action items could have title for you instead of having to type them in while on the meeting, that would be helful. If there's anything else I wish something had or needs fixing, support is always available and listens to feedback. Any feature that I've asked about ended up being added (being able to download videos, download snippets, etc.) – the team is a step ahead about making the user experience great. The notetaker has made my life so much easier during sales demos where I can focus on the conversation and not have to worry about manually taking notes. I also love the seamless HubSpot integration - if I mention that I need to do a task on a call, Fathom will automatically create a Task for me on HubSpot so that I won't forget what to do. Also like that Fathom automatically creates a link to the Fathom video on a prospects Contact page in HubSpot. Pros I've been using Fathom for the last two years, and it's such a helpful tool to record sales calls. It does all the work for me, and I no longer need to type down notes and can genuinely focus on the conversation. I have the worst memory, so I truly appreciate the full text transcript and AI Summary features for when I need to look back on calls when I'm doing follow-ups. I also love how I can easily share the videos with prospects. The integrations with HubSpot and Zoom have also been a huge help. Cons N/A - everything about Fathom is amazing! I'm able to be more present in meetings as a result. Additionally, keeping tabs on how much I'm talking vs the other person in the meeting is so valuable! The new notes feature where you can change the format of the notes entirely with a click of the button (change templates) is outstanding. And the Zapier integration is great. I have a zap set to send each action item to my to do list in Clickup (my task management system). Cons I know the company is working hard on stability. There have been a couple times I had notes fail so i always have a backup going (otter). I look forward to the day when i know that's not needed. Also, I wish that I could use it when I'm not on Zoom (or a similar system). If I'm on a regular audio-only telephone call (not on a video call system), I'd like to be able to still use fathom. I like seeing that Fathom is ready record when I start a meeting and will beginas soon as others join. I always get nervous that OtterAI isn't going to show up to the meeting because there is no visibility until it joins at exactly the meeting start time. I ran a side-by-side comparison for a few weeks, and I chose Fathom. Cons At least on the free version I was trialing, I couldn't see the transcription in real time. It has really changed the power of my own sales, as well as enabled me to take dives into each agent and figure out what may or may not have gone well in a call. I went from someone who had a lot of trouble remembering everything that was promised in a meeting (without an assistant or a note taker) to not forgetting a single thing. It really is amazing. Quick and precise summaries post-meeting. Easy to use functions. No manual input is required. Pros Fathom is one of my favourite sidekicks for all of my Zoom meetings. Effortuiously recorded meetings created quick and easy-to-digest summaries and allowed me to share recordings with clients in one click. It seems so obvious, and yet it's so brilliant. Fathom has paid features, but unlike some software, it doesn't feel the need to impose them if you exceed any features. Fathom has been shared with every one of my colleagues in the office, and I've shared it multiple times on Linkedin as a must-have extension for Zoom & Online Meetings. Plus it takes less than 2mins to add and begin using. I've had one interaction with the support staff so far, mostly because the software works so well 99% of the time. The one instance that something went wrong, the team was there to explain the best way forward and offer daily updates on the progress. This is a product I generally use Daily, and looking back to when I didn't use Fathom, it seems like a distant memory now. Cons I've had one recording record with sound and visual issues. The Fathom team spent over a week trying to recover and fix the problem but was unable to fix it. I will note that the recording in question was over 2 hours long and had 10+ people in the Zoom call. April 9, 2024 5.0 I no longer need to use most of my brain taking notes; Fathom handles it for me and I can focus on the business at hand. Pros Fathom takes care of all our notetaking needs, and now starts itself up automatically, so I don't even need to remember to turn it on. Saves me lots of time, and the summaries are great! Folks see the notetaker and know they can assume it's all taken care of and will be available for reference as soon as the meeting ends. Cons No cons so far.
