We use the Enterprise version (11.) in a large multispecilty practice. We used paper charts before this. This EHR is a Jack of all trades, but master of none. The user interface is antiquainted (the Pro version appears more develped in this regard) and oftentimes requires multiple clicks to get to basic information. It is hardly intuitive to someone like me who is very computer literate. The med list is hard to read and contains way too many details on the summary page. The note tools accept all forms of input, which is a postive, but the editing tools particularly for structured notes is absimal because of many bugs. Editing becomes a real chore and source of dissatisfaction. Input of laboratory data is not flexible in the sense that one cannot make manual entries or make custom feilds without significant tech support, which is lacking. Some of the order entry tools do not work correctly (standing orders to be specific), a known bug for a long time, but still no resolution. Problem oriented documentation is incomplete as there is poor connectivity between problem lists and an assessment of it (although, it does connect the dots for coding and for linking meds and labs to problems, just not easy to get too). Our in-house support staff are experiencing significant lags in updates and fixs for this product. To the extent that we can send scripts electronically and document changes in medication dosing, that part works well and should since that is where Allscripts excels. Its too bad that the rest of the product is so buggy and neglected. In short, I would not recommend the Enterprise version of this product. The ratings page for this site should probabaly make a distinction between the 3 products offered by Allscripts since they are not all the same.

I am one of three obstetrician/gynecologists in a multidisciplinary group with cardiologists and a rheumatologist. I have previously used IC charting with success and I consider myself comfortable with computer technology. Over the course of two weeks, Allscripts was implemented. We were trained on patient visit input briefly while seeing patients in the office. Once the training staff left, we were on our own. We have had very little support. The system itself is difficult to use and you constantly feel as if you are missing patient information. In order to pull up a result you have to scroll through every lab ever ordered, every image ever scanned in, and every note put in. The scroll function frequently jumps to the next view so you are never sure you actually reviewed the entire document. Radiology reports and labs do not show up in the patient's note unless you manually enter the results/report. The obstetric add on (mom-docs) does not communicate with allscripts and all labs/ultrasounds/communications have to be entered manually. Once entered they are easily altered if you accidentally hit the scroll wheel on your mouse, so you never feel confident of your patient information. In order to review a lab or send a prescription there is a minimum of three clicks you have to press confirming unnecessary information such as diagnosis and linked visit. The lab/prescription is not attached to the note so the clicks seem unnecessary. At the end of the day you are worried you missed something like Rh status, an abnormal lab or that your note may or may not have been saved and may or may not be in the correct patients chart. We have now had this system for six months and these issues have not been addressed.

### "East to use medical softeware"

Solves an easy problem of updating patient information such as demographics, insurance and other basic information all within one system.

Pros

An easy patient demographic system to register patients and keeping track of insurance & patient information.

Cons

the font can be a little bigger that would allow for those with low vision to see

### "Easy To Use, Slow, Bad Design"

June 14, 2018

2.0

Look elsewhere, there are open source options I would choose before this.

Pros

It was easy to use and to find what you needed, it is a fairly simple software. The ability to send electronic prescriptions is also a plus.

Cons

Very slow and takes forever to load! Integrations with other systems is also nearly impossible. The software UI is very poorly designed and the coding is obviously messy. Downtime seemed to be a given each week as the system would go down randomly and seemingly every week.

### "The worst EHR I have ever experienced"

AVOID

Cons

Everyday is a new adventure with this company. We never know if we will be able to log on in the morning. The system was not designed by a physician: every step takes 5 extra steps. Customer support is horrible. Let me same that again: Customer support is horrible! I'm not sure how this company stays in business. The system stalls with every click! Please do not use allscripts: You will definitely regret signing a contract with them

### "Terrible EHR. One of the worst on the Market"

October 10, 2017

1.0

Pros

It's hard to think of any "pros" for this EHR. The one thing I did like about it in the three years I used it was that it had a feature where you could "hide" a task and have it reemerge at a particular date. So if I wanted to send a message to my nurse to call a patient in 2 weeks, it would "hide" it for two weeks and then show up in her inbox instead of staying in her inbox that whole time.

Cons

So many. While writing a note you are in one screen. To get to the rest of the chart you have to close that screen, go out of the note, go into the chart, go into the section you want the information, open up the lab/imaging/consult/letter etc..., review it, then close, and go back into the note. Very much non user friendly. This was definitely designed by computer programmers without physician input.

### "My worst decision ever"

December 15, 2017

1.0

Do not even think about it - Scary!!!!

Cons

It conglomerates multiple units which are not working well together. Rep hard to customize, Support is terrible ( on many occasions we got call back 1 o2 days later ), few occasions there was no service for many hours, end some issues are still being fixed - close to a year. The best part is their billing department - you will be billed for everything and some more what you do not know

### "Archaic Software"

April 19, 2018

3.0

It's thorough and can be customized, but building the functions out requires a lot of time and effort.

Pros

I like that we can ePrescribe and eFax. It shows the patient's insurance carrier at the top, but it doesn't show their ID number, and to do anything with the insurance company, you need the ID number, and the only place to find it is in their SCANNED in insurance docs - chart viewer. That's pretty bad.

Cons

The interface is not attractive, the software itself is really big, so it's slow, and worst of all it requires A LOT of clicks to do anything!

### "Unable to Fix Problems in a timely manner."

April 17, 2017

2.0

Not happy with the Allscripts System. Have been with company 16 years, started with Tiger then Allscripts Myway, now Allscripts Pro. Unable to get problems resolved in a timely manner. Problems understanding the customer service, overall language barrow. Ask when to call in (Have you check the Allscripts Port for the answer first before call customer service) We are a busy 4 physicians office and don't have time to search for the answer to our problems) We need an answer so we can continue on with our daily duties.

Pros

Displays nicely, user friendly for the most part, easy to navigate, Doctors like having the dragon.

Cons

Problems with e-Prescribe, allowing the physician to free text diagnosis, doesn't show social security numbers (which would be very helpful for the referral clerks), If correction needs to be made in PM the corrections do not cross over to EHR, so you have to go in and do an addendum

### "Not that great"

October 11, 2017

Am looking forward to switching to Athena

Pros

It seemed like a good buy at the time, especially when combined with the PMR side. That said, the PMR side is not user friendly

Cons

The support has not been there. Must put a ticket in for everything. Why can't we speak to some one right away especially when we can't log on. We get kicked off the server a couple times a week also. Very aggravating.

### "Poor design, speed, support"

April 7, 2018

DON'T BUY THIS!!

Pros

Lots of downtime. At my institution, that meant we could return to paper charting which was more accurate & efficient.

Cons

Lots of clicks to do anything. Requires several screens to do almost anything, with slow transition time between screens. Used this 68 months, seemed slower the longer we used it. Certain parts could not be edited. Requested changes re: typos & inaccurate descriptions which could not be edited, and still were not fixed after years and multiple Updates. Frequent freezes and crashes. Anytime an Update was implemented, several days of freezes and crashes. Many Updates worthless (e.g., changes in screen colors, fonts, design of screens, etc.). Template outputs too wordy.

### "I used it for two years and so called updates caused so many problems the company I worked for had to offer classes on how to use it all over again."

July 12, 2017

I am very glad that we changed to EPIC.

Pros

Laboratory results, problem lists, and medication lists were easy to print. It was easy to send notes to coworkers.

Cons

There can be three or four places to enter the ordered screens (like colonoscopies) and only one will show up on the dashboard. The program crashes a lot.

### "Lots of setup"

August 13, 2017

3.0

Pros

There are a lot of features and it comes with several reports right out of the "box". Also appreciate the ease of integration with 3rd party software.

Cons

This EHR seems way to have a much too intensive setup/customization process and too many templates. Very time consuming data entry.

Allscripts PRO is not "sexy". It is, however, fully customizable. I am fairly computer literate, and was up and running smoothly within 2 weeks. I was also able to create templates with relative ease through the clinical customization module. In fact, cloning template to template, with minor additions and subtractions, makes the process run more smoothly. The patient portal is nice. The billing end is probably one of the best in the industry, with A++ reports. I have had PRO since the beginning. Support definitely needs a tweak, but having one staff member (not an MD) immersed in the EHR will help tremendously. I am helping a friend implement the system now, and am taking a one by one approach for two reasons - everyone learns on a different curve, and needs different levels of attention; and each person who becomes proficient with the EMR will be a source for the next one learning it. Originally, the implementation took 2 weeks. I spent 6 hours with the guy, then asked questions as I went along. I had him spend most of his time with the nurses and front office. Within 6 months, there was a clear difference in the office. We got down to 1.1 FTEs, and no paper!!

Please , do not think about Do not ruin your life , your patients and your sanity over it. Inspite it is very expensive but changing software is not easy.

Pros

EHR with horrible customer support I do not like anything about it. May be email intergration . They return the call same day but useless

Cons

8 months ago, we are getting multiple errors during the day, that paralyzed the computer and we have to restart the computer again that may take up to 10-15 minutes and sometimes more. Imagine this can happen 10-20 times per day which lead us to finish charting at midnight every day. Very frustrating We are contacting our attorney

Our Internal Medicine practice has used Allscripts Pro EHR since 2004. Having gone through many upgrades and increasing costs through out every turn of the way. You will be charged additional maintenance fees for every interface you add. You have to download and upgrade everything mannually yourself. Support for Allscripts is lacking, getting anyone to call you back in a timely manner is impossible. We attested to Meaningful Use in 2011 and are still being trailed by an audit because there was not branding on any of the reports generated from the system. I have placed many calls to try to get a letter on Allscripts letter head that proves that we actually were using the Allscripts Pro version 9.2 when attestation was done in October of 2011. It has been 5 days and 10 phone calls later and I cannot get anyone to call me back. Allscripts big selling point in 2010 and after was their capability to attest to Meaningful Use but, they have no support for you once you have attested using their product that can prove their product was used and what version was used at the time of attestation. I am very frustrated with this company but being in the middle of attestation for Meaningful Use I feel I have to hang in there with this product until after 2015 when we will have completed all attestation that will be rewarded monetarily.

Pros

Medication and pharmacy database very complete. Design is ok but sometimes requires too many clicks to get where you want to go.
