It works like plug-and-play software, whereas you log in and that is it. You have access to terminology and details regarding the projects you are working on. Cons There should be a way to manage multiple dictionaries, sometimes you need to add a term that is very specific to one field or language variant. Review Source SV Sergio V. We also use Localise, but PhraseApp has quite more features. It only lacks some good UX improvements to make it very very good. We almost don't use their built-in translations system, as they're quite weak. It's better to have a dedicated agency/company for that sole purpose, as you will want to give feedback about translations to make them better for the next order, but you can't do that with PhraseApp. Overall, a very good tool! Pros \- You can manage special pluralizations (such as happens with Polish language) in a very easy way - It allows you to have various locales (aka languages) and it's fast to switch between them - You have a history of changes and you can see who did it, and it's easy to revert to a previous one - You can give individual permissions to users - Super good customer support when you have doubts or any problem Cons \- You can order translations via PhraseApp, but the quality it's not so good (you receive them fast, though) Review Source VR Verified Reviewer Junior Project Manager Translation and Localization Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "More than just a translation tool" August 28, 2018 5.0 Pros Memsource is a multi environment platform. March 26, 2019 5.0 Memsource and its capabilities have allowed our company to offer better service to our clients at better prices, and made my life as a project manager a lot easier! The automation of some of the steps required for translation projects has made work smoother and more enjoyable. Pros What is there not to love about Memsource? Easily the best CAT and project management tool I've used so far. The entire project workflow is so so so easy and smooth for myself as a project manager, and linguists as well. There are very seldom any weird bugs or glitches (unlike Trados which seems to constantly have problems) and it is VERY user friendly and intuitive! Cons There's nothing I don't like about Memsource. Pros The branches feature really helps us to handle git branches. It allows us to have a smooth workflow, which is nice. There is also an API which permits us to make some automation easily. Cons It's very sad that we can only merge branches to master. We can't merge a branch A to a branch B, which make some complication on our workflow. We plan to try out the other features as well like sketch integration and glossary which sounds really promising and probably will save even more time for other team members as well. Pros Phrase helped us to save countless of developer hours by automating our whole localisation workflow and not copy pasting the localisations from a spreadsheet which were very time consuming, cumbersome and error prone. With the Phrase Command line tool we managed to integrate and automate the localisation update process with Gitlab and with the Over the Air feature our QA engineers can fix localisations easily and immediately without any help from a developer. Cons The GUI of the website could be improved, not all the features are easy to find but once you get the hang of it it's easy to use. Translator Translation and Localization Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Perfect software for website and app localization" October 27, 2019 5.0 In my opinion, PhraseApp is simply the best option if you need to localize/translate your website or app while keeping consistency all over the project. Pros What I like the most about PhraseApp is its ease of use, the suggestions that allow to check and compare similar strings that were previously translated, helping to keep consistency all over the translated material. I also had once to contact the support team and they were just perfect in solving my issue. Cons The only thing I can think of is the way it can become slow after using it for just 30 minutes, but it can be solved simply refreshing the page you're working on, anyway. Requirements Engineer Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Easier and more agile approach to translation content management" May 7, 2020 5.0 Pros \- ticket based approach to translation process - no further need of vast translation spreadsheets exchange through emails, - easy tracking of translation jobs and improved communication with translation offices (comments, mentions) - possibility to introduce the translators to the context of translated wording (screens attachment, In-Context editor) - API with useful possibilities of extracting by tags, using fallback languages, importing translations with a defined maturity level (reviewed, translated etc.) - versioning and translation history - suggestions mechanism (possible reuse from different projects across the company) - easy upload mechanism for migration of previously used databases - support for different formats of upload/download - database branching Cons As a future improvement it would be nice to see some sort of variants for a text with unique key to create length variations, similar to how it is handled for pluralization. E.g. key1.short, key1.medium, key1.long. This would help out to translate consistently for the whole ecosystem of devices with different display restrictions. Additional feature that would help is the improvement in file upload process. It would be nice to have the languages pre-selected on the basis of column names in order to avoid manual selection for each column. Review Source CW Chris W. Pros I can't think of a single feature of Memsource that I prefer over other CAT tools. Cons Lacks "smart pasting" functions as found in other CAT tools. Search tools less useful than other CAT tools. TM look-up tools less effective than other CAT tools. Can't easily leverage over a decades worth of TM that I've built up in other CAT tools. Pros It is easy to start with, I use it with several clients and I find it very useful. Being online allows me to use my mac, which is impossible with other softwares. Depending on their validity, the publication occurs almost immediately or several times a week depending on how the developers set it up. For me, it all works on the principle of "fire and forget". Pros The best part about Phrase is that all translations have in one place and translated texts are implemented without my participation by dedicated teams. I can work with Phrase both from the company and from home. Cons I am not completely satisfied with the results of machine translations using the default engine - Microsoft Translation. Sometimes I need to travel and Memsource is a cloud-based tool that helps me continue the translation without relying on the local storage. Pros Memsource is easy to use and it has enough functions for an ordinary user like me, who would directly translate the document and sometimes outsource to others when I'm busy. Cons So far nothing dislike. But Memsource team can expand the function 'Convert to Memsource tags', such as tag preview and make it a preset. Reason for choosing Phrase Memsource is affordable. It has a very basic and easy to use interface for beginners. Cons I think it is important to add machine learning functionality. It would be great for all users. Pros It is very simple to use and has a very intuitive interface that makes work easier. It is easy to find what is missing and on the right side you can find suggestions for each task based on previous works. You can also tag a co-worker if you need to highilight/report something. Head of Development Information Technology and Services Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Best solution for a complete translation workflow" May 13, 2020 5.0 Our main problem before phrase was, that every time someone wanted to change translations a develop needed to check out the project, change the translation file create a pull-request, merge, release... This is time consuming and not a real fun task for the developer but also for the person who needs to wait too long for a simple change. With phrase you can establish a nice and easy workflow for handling translations. Pros Very good integration into our existing development processes and a nice user interface for translators and product people maintaining the translations. It is a straight forward product mostly self-explaining with innovative features and a developer friendly ecosystem. Cons We had some minor issues with the branching model and our ci setup but were able to easyly workaround and integrate it.
