Student Minister Religious Institutions Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "The perfect database for the church of the '90s " February 15, 2021 3.0 Having used Servant Keeper for 2 years, it did exactly what I needed it to do, but never without some challenges that had to be overcome. Servant Keeper's look and features really feel designed for an older church but a church with a younger staff and demographic would probably find itself better suited with another option. Pros It is a straightforward database system. Running reports is easy. Overall, Servant Keeper provides a nice sampling of features for church management. Cons Is not Mac friendly. If you use a Mac you can find ways to make it work but you will have consistent headaches in doing so. Limited features compared to its main competitors. Looks and feels like it was developed in the '90s and has never really embraced modern technology. The sign-in system is difficult to set-up and maintain and, once again, greets people with a dated look that doesn't appeal to today's families. Customer support is prompt but rarely provides necessary solutions to the issues. I used this program for years. Every time I have needed help the help desk has come through. I have never lost information of any kind. Pros We have been using Servant Keeper for many years. It's been reliable and every time they upgrade, I get the upgrades I seem to have needed. Like they upgraded for me. The integration between the different modules is seamless and they work very well together. Cons Something that has arisen just recently would be the ability to import mass data changes at one time for different fields not containing the same information. Also, if you had an online directory with pictures and information about the members that would be very secure and be able to be changed by the member themselves. Used for class lists for the children at the church. Tracked the different adult studies that the adult members attended. Able to separate the financial information from the non-financial so not all of the staff had access to the financial records (I didn't, for example). Had good experience with the support team when questions or issues arose. Cons Not a problem with the software. Make sure that backups are made. It has tools that allow you to change data for large groups of people, which can be very helpful. Sometimes changes needed to be undone, especially when volunteers were given access to the database. :( Review Source VS Velma S. Was pleased to get acquainted with Servant Keeper 13 years ago. Could not do without it. Pros Able to enter contributions easily and quickly. (Monday morning chore !) Pastor Religious Institutions Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Great Donation Management Software" March 28, 2024 4.0 Overall, it is a simple solution for making online giving an option, and it is very easy to incorporate into one's pre-existing website. Pros Very easy to use and set up online. Makes giving very easy and convenient for givers, and very easy for the treasurer to track and record. Cons The fees. Servant Keeper took over from the previous software we used, but we didn't pay as much in fees previously. e.g. If all donations are made by credit card, but none by ACH one month, then we pay a fee for ACH - even though we didn't even process any ACH transactions. Servant keeper is easy to use, and does a great job at tracking church membership. All the new features that have come out have made it very competitive with other companies. I especially like the add on of background checks and registration. Cons I am not a fan of how expensive the cloud/ mobile versions are. This is a great feature that many churches could not afford. We had to pick a few staff members to receive the app, and others had to use the traditional site. I also wish each member could establish their own profile. Second, I think you may not know that all of your users can use the mobile and web apps as well as the desktop apps and you can use it on unlimited devices and computers for no additional charge. One thing I would suggest, when you offer training is to offer a discount for those who have purchased the help desk, cloud... Or at least offer it for the first year of purchasing a software upgrade. Pros Overall, the software is easy to work with, but it does help to have membership to the help desk for assistance. Cons Although I have called to request assistance. One of the continual problems I experience while using the contribution manager has not been resolved. I love that I can look up birthdays, anniversaries and print a report with the touch of a button or two. Pros Servant Keeper is a very user friendly data base for churches that has a hub for finances as well. I can keep track of attendance, giving, and personal information all in one place. It will print reports, envelopes and directories with ease. Cons Sometimes it is difficult to figure out reporting and merging with other things like word, envelopes, etc. Review Source ZB Zandra B. Pros Very easy to use, manuals are easy to read and for the most part understandable and now that they offer an online giving platform they have all we need in one package. The customer support is Exceptional, the techs are always so helpful and patient, working thru whatever problems we're having or have created. Cons There is not one thing that I dislike about servantkeeper. I do dislike the fact that we don't utilize all of the features offered thru the software. Review Source Bill B. Complete solution for our small church Cons \- 90's style interface; clearly a J2EE or equivalent type application. Fixed number of fields; can't change field location on screen, etc. - Klutzy to learn to use. - Primitive permission architecture - giving someone ability to add values to one dropdown (e.g. City) is giving them permission to all fields (e.g. Status) - results in HUGE messes and dirty data - A lot of reports, but you DO need to edit them occasionally. The editor is HUGELY klutzy, and there is no support and no comprehensive documentation for it. Many competitors - even at first glance - were built for the web using newer technologies. I do want to acknowledge your request regarding accounting. Right now we offer direct integration with Quickbooks. So when you post your account totals go directly into your quickbooks company file. We have found that for most of our customers, this integration serves them best as their accountant uses Quickbooks. This also lets us focus on the member/donor tracking, which is what we do best. February 9, 2017 3.0 We have used Servant Keeper for 9-10 years (going by memory). They have steadily improved the product. Moving to the cloud made this platform much more useful for our staff. When it all works - I would give 5 stars on the ratings above. Until this month I would have given nothing less than 4 stars. The Customer Service people are lovely but have no ability to make things happen. There are problems with the speed of the program and at times it freezes up. Part of that is Servant Keeper and part of that is the location where we happen to log in. This year we switched our online giving to Servant Keeper. It was a smooth change over. There is a lag time between the gift being given online and Servant Keeper's posting of the gifts to our account. Then....the yearly giving statements went out this January (which were generated so smoothly). 55 online donations given throughout the year did not show up on the giving statements (the money did go to the account correctly - it just did not show up on the contributor statement). Now we are having to manually correct these statements. Servant Keeper's response to this is they are working on an upgrade (which will cost us) but there has been no visible effort made. This is not acceptable. With the size of our church/staff/options we choose - we have a sizable time and money investment in this platform. If there is a bug causing your online gifts not to post we will fix that and you will not have to pay for that update. While we integrate with many online giving programs, they are operated by third party companies (Vanco, Easy Tithe) and we can only post the data they send. March 21, 2019 5.0 I used several different programs before I found Servant Keeper and none of them were as easy to use and contained the information the church needed like this one. Servant Keeper also allows me to customize it to fit my needs. The company is very good at taking suggestions for improvement and I often find the changes in new upgrades. The staff is wonderful to work with and readily solves problems. I recommend this program to every church secretary I meet. There is nothing else on the market that provides the needed information for my church. The price is fair and I highly recommend having their help desk contract. It is worth it. Pros Ease of use, adaptability for my needs, the reports available, ease of emailing contribution statements, tracking information, great customer service and help desk, and more. Pros As the Administrator for the church database, my experience with Servant Keeper has been very positive. I appreciate the expertise of the Help Desk staff who are friendly, considerate and always try their best to answer my questions. Occasionally, when I call with a complicated question, the the representative will suggest logging into my computer which I consider most helpful. I prefer calling instead of using the Chat feature. Cons Sometimes calls to the Help Desk representative are a little longer then I like. The financial portion of the program is easy to use. You won't need an accountant to make entries & run a vast array of easy to read reports. Accountants will find the complete information they need as well. The membership manager can maintain a wealth of knowledge about members & visitors. Easy to add & maintain. Reports are simple & can be customized for your specific needs. Overall, the screens are easy to read, progress in logical fashion & allow even users with basic computer knowledge to be successful & not overwhelmed. More experiences users can customize, optimize & utilize the software is countless ways to suit their needs. Customer service is friendly, quick access for help & well trained. Our 3 year history with Servant Keeper has been positive & extremely beneficial to our church. I highly recommend this software for any size congregation. Pros Simple to use. Entry screens are basic and easy to follow. Entry errors are easy to correct. Easy to add new people and catagories while making entries. Members like how detailed yet simple their giving statements are. Clear format for easy understanding. Multiple options are available for statements to customize to your needs for that moment. Reports are easy to read in ways that are simple for councils and chairpersons to review quickly and without additional training. History is quickly accessed and can be used to create an abundance of reports for budgets and church needs. Webinars are informative and helpful. Don't skip them if at all possible. They open new ways of using the software. Cons Pledges can only be tracked per person, not by family, on critical reports. There are ways to work around this by entering the spouse with a zero pledge, but doesn't not quite correct the whole problem there. Not enough con to outweigh all the positive pros though. Pretty easy to work if you are familiar with databases. Missing some key pieces and not always user friendly. Pros Basic and easy to use if you understand databases. Cons Notes section does not automatically notate when someone makes a change to a profile. When updating family information , it doesn't always carry update to all family members. It asks which members need that update, great feature, but then doesn't always make the updates. We are a small church with a small staff, so there is only so much we can and do track. But it meets our needs (mostly, I have one report I resort to Access for), and it's so easy to use that new employees don't have a problem understanding the basics. I had to contact SK today for help in re-installing a workstation after my computer was replaced. The service provided by the Rep in the Help department was AWESOME! Pros Easy to use. Very versatile. The support is incredible, excellent! Cons I would prefer an easier and more robust customizable reporting feature. Perhaps that's the one area I am simply not knowledgeable enough. " May 9, 2019 4.0 Still haven't completely enabled all aspects of the program. I had to change accounting programs at the same time we jumped into this program. What a huge difference in how much time it takes. With the white glove conversion I was able to have the attendance and contributions up and running in a few days. It will take a bit longer to get all the capabilities up and running only because I'm still working on the accounting program conversion. Pros The White Glove transition worked well. You do have to conform your categories, but the team helps you identify what is needed. The attendance and contributions went in smoothly once everything matched up. We were able to bring over from Logos the attendance and contributions of our database from 2012 forward. Utilize the training videos they are very helpful. The help desk team will walk you through whatever you are having trouble with also. This software has so many parts that can be useful for a large or growing church. Cons Some areas are very intuitive to work with, but the report area was not. Don't waste time trying to figure it out on your own. Use the training and the help desk! You may have to wait on hold for a member of the Help Desk Team, however it is worth the wait. They walk you through whatever you are having trouble with. July 25, 2019 5.0 Pros I really like the ability of Servant Keeper to have a vast amount of information available at my fingertips. From entering information about our congregants, to entering contribution data...it's all there for me. I love the ability to create and distribute contribution statements of donor giving. Servant Keeper makes it quite simple and easy to do from start to finish! Cons Honestly, there's not really much of anything that I don't like about Servant Keeper. June 11, 2015 5.0 After working with the demo a few weeks and after several phone calls to Sales Rep Bernadette Reynolds, we purchased a 3 seat Starter Bundle with SK Hosting 3 weeks ago. Later, we bought an additional set of manuals and ClipBook for SK. Total investment to date is about $1200 for our 200 family, 400 individual congregation. While less expensive choices are available, I think this is about the minimum setup and cost for a church our size. The Import Tool is a must for porting member data. I wish I had taken more time organizing member talents and interests as it's time consuming to add this info after import. There's no mechanism to change fields on a group of members by importing a batch file; it must be done manually inside SK. Help from the Menu Bar doesn't work if you're using the current version of Adobe AIR (17.0.0.172 but it does work with older versions). If SK is open and it loses focus or your computer goes to sleep for a while, SK thinks the internet connection has been lost. I've had to either shut down SK with Task Manager and/or reboot to get things back to normal. While I focus on getting everything set up, several others are working through the very useful online tutorials and videos. User Manuals are very, very good as is the Help Desk. While there are some idiosyncrasies and a few things I'd do differently, it's clear a great deal of thought has gone into the design of this software and how it will be used. While I found SK intuitive and easy to use (I worked in the CAE field for 40 years), it remains to be seen how easy our 'unsophisticated' users will adapt to it. It is a very powerful piece of software that should meet your needs whether you're a church of 20 or 2000 families.
