An all in one company that offers everything needed to get started. Some of those features may not be as great as could be found elsewhere for more money, but work well enough to satisfy startup business needs and budget. Pros Full suite of features that help run your business in addition to excellent software, webinars, and customer support. Cons Can be cumbersome at times. The many options for customizing could be more streamlined and easier to learn as you go. Same with making changes to customer information after scheduling. There are many common defects found in most homes that require some type of notation in a report. I am able to draw that comment from my pre-written list and insert it quickly into the report. This saves time and avoids confusion about the topic. I am also very grateful for the wonderful tech support from the very knowledgeable staff. They are responsive and diligent in helping me solve any questions I might have about the software. The system is even very helpful to my clients and agents with the Request List function. Pros Well the staff is the bomb which is super important because I'm a hot mess to deal with on the phone sometimes. Homegauge does everything I want it to (minus a few minor improvements). I rarely have a problem and the staff is always there to get me back on track when I get click crazy and mess something up 😂 Cons When editing images on my computer, the image is soooo small and sometimes it is difficult to see what I'm trying to capture. I also wish that I could put arrows on my images in the companion. It was a decision to go to a full cloud based software program so reports could mostly done onsite. The answer that I got was they have an app that uploads to a cloud and downloads to the desktop software This is mediocre at best and I was losing information or my file size was too large and I had to delete information in order to move to my desktop software just to complete my reports this added valuable time. The administration at home gauge claimed that it was going to go to full cloud base (meaning you can deliver reports from phone)at least 3 years ago and it has yet to move there. It's been a wonderful 25 years. Pros I have been using home gauge for close to 25 years. I will never consider switching to any other software! Fast forward 5 years and HG seems to be the old guy in the group. Web based/mac platforms have been promised for years but haven't seen any changes in the software in the 5 years I've been a customer. I am currently testing other platforms and they are leaving HG in the dust. Hopefully you can make some changes and lead the industry again. Until then Im not sure my business can afford to be stuck in the past with HG. Pros Very versatile, easy picture editing. Tons of features and customization options. Appeared to be the industry leader at the time. Cons Not Mac compatible. Outdated, clumsy, less features and usability than the leading competition. Home Inspector Real Estate Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Home Gauge Software" January 31, 2020 5.0 The customers and Realtors like how easy it is to use at their end. I get new Realtors and they like so much, they will recommend me to their clients. Pros The software is very custom-able. I used a book before I purchased the software and was used to that format, and I was able to customized the software to what I wanted. The software is easy to add pictures to, and easy to understand. I bought the program from Home Gauge and that was it, no more money going out for updates. Home Gauge also comes up with very good additions to the software that really help out my customers and their Realtors. When I bought Home Gauge software, I looked at nine different software packages, and chose Home Gauge for how easy it was to customize. Cons There is a lot of things in the software I do not use, that would help my business, that I personally have a problem comprehending. I am an older inspector, and did not have computers when I grew up. I have to get my grown up children to help me get through it. Review Source TG Troy G. Pros I love the excellent consumer support. I love the "Smart Text" time saving functionality of Homeguage comment writing when using the HG Companion software. I love the cloud service. Cons I am unhappy with the inability to truly have an online scheduler on my home inspection website. I used their "old" online scheduler for years, until they stopped supporting it. Homeguage keeps promising a new truly online scheduler, but keep missing their promise dates by years. I finally switched to ISN software for scheduling, and I will never go back!! I wish Homeguage would integrate their "Request List" feature for clients and Realtors into ISN's third party report delivery. "HG Services" are overpriced for what they have to offer. Easy to customize to my business. HG takes feedback from it's users and performs useful updates periodically that are tested and trouble free. Cons I didn't like it when they went from the client initiating contact regarding the home warranty to HG automatically contacting them without permission, so I opted out of that part of the program. If HG would set it up so the client could initiate contact again I would be happy to include a link or referral in my reports for the client to make contact. I do not want my clients to feel that I have sold or openly distributed their contact information to anyone. Fast customer support, solid stable program, clients love the final product (report), Speed/ease of use. We use their other add-on services such as website design- just a great overall package and I feel its our secret weapon when I hear other inspectors complaining about their various programs they have to tie together. Pros Laser focused on primary needs of a home inspection business. Report writing, scheduling, invoicing and payment processing, online report delivery... Customization and adaptable as the company has grown. Cons It took a few months to get really good at the software, but now that we know how to use it, we are very quick and efficient. Automatically send out inspection reminders. Pros Simple, Everything! Easy to use. Easy to make changes. Has the ability for you to make different templets for different types of inspections, example, Pools & Spa Inspections. Support is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of using. All the people I have met, and talked with from HomeGauge are extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. HomeGauge is always making improvements and innovations to there software. They are out ahead of the rest, the rest copy HomeGauge. Cons Have not found any yet! I did find a problem with Capterra. They are asking for feed back on a "Home Inspection" software, yet they do not list "Home Inspection" in there choice of industries. I guess with that comment I blew my chance for the $$$$$. Home Gauge techs have been a great help. When problems do arise, they are quickly resolved by tech support. They offer superior support compared to other software programs that I've used in the past. Pros I like almost everything about the software. Data entry is straightforward and the comments library is easy to edit and refine. It works well on hand held devices and the desktop. Cons Sometimes the spacing on the report documents has been problematic, but over time this is improving. I would like to see this software have more cross platform compatibility between IOS and PC environments. Reason for choosing HomeGauge I chose HomeGauge because of the responses from the agents I spoke with both before the trial period and during it. HomeGauge has allowed us to make our reports great. I can't say enough about the support offered by the staff at HomeGauge. Pros The HomeGauge software is extremely user friendly. After performing an inspection, the last thing I want to do is take hours writing the report. I am able to input all information into the software at the time of the inspection, with final tweeking taking only minutes once I sit down to finalize the report. If I do have a question, the support offered can not be beat. Cons Since I used this software ALL day as the administrator of our company, I have the Dashboard up all the time. When I haven't been active for awhile, I have to re-log in. That is the ONLY thing I can think of. I tried several software plate forms and none are as easy and useful as HomeGauge Pros It is very user friendly and super easy to use. My clients and their professional realtors like the easy to read format of the reports . The support from the homegauge team is outstanding. Cons My only complaint the support office runs on ET and I live and work in PT and when I usually need them I have to wait till the next day because they are closed for the day. They should compromise and stay open at least half the time zone difference in mornings and evenings? January 21, 2020 5.0 I've been using HG forever it seems... 12 years of more I'd say. They are supportive and receptive to our input. I've never been inclined to leave to another provider. They treat their long time users as good as their newbies with bundles and discounts. Often on the leading edge of new ideas... always thinking about what is next. Pros I like the versatility of the software. We can customize so much of it. The ability to use companion to update the report while in the field is very helpful. Just when i think it can't get much better, they improve it. Cons occasionally there are some quirks that cause the software to crash... but none anymore than any other computer software. I think that the customer service was better years ago when I knew the staff by name and they always answered my calls. Now, not so much. Now when I call, the rep may not be having a good day and it reflects in the call. Just saying. Pros I've used HomeGauge for almost 16 years. I love the format. Very professional. Easy for customer to review. I've also looked at a lot of other reports done by other inspectors and quite frankly, they are very poorly done. Cons Adding too many options as the company grows. In my experience, the client wants a clean, professional report that is to the point for their specific need at the time of the inspection. It has had so many upgrades along the way. I have had so many colleagues use other software over the years and had to switch because of lack of support, no upgrades and software companies going out of business. I'm glad I made the right choice initially with Homegauge. I've had a lot of colleagues switch to it. Pros Ease of use. Always improving and making it better. Cons Nothing. Being able to accept credit cards through HG is a piece of cake as it locks them out until payment is received. My agents and clients love the CRL as this simplifies the process of making repair requests from the seller. The integration of photos from outside sources is effortless and taking photos from within the software is nice because they end up right where I want them. And did I mention the videos! You can't argue with a picture or video! Cons My only con is probably due to user falderal. I struggle with updating my template and getting it back to the Companion. Review Source PZ Pat Z. January 31, 2020 5.0 My at home report time has been cut to 25% of what it was with my last software program, Pros The software is easily customizable and you can get as detailed or generic as you desire. It lets me insert pictures as I inspect (my first programs didn't) and when programmed correctly, it doesnt let me leave the inspection until I am completely done. The ability to enter appointments an access the reports from anywhere is great also as I no longer have to write things down or commit them to memory. Cons Some additions like being able to annotate pictures in the handheld version or having it's own camera app would be nice. Being able to edit all aspects of the narrative when reviewing pictures would be helpful also. Review Source GS George S. Operating Manager Consumer Services Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "HomeGauge for RV Inspections" January 22, 2020 4.0 HomeGauge report takes me 4 hours to complete. There are areas that are redundant, and you are answering the same inspection points twice under different tabs in the report (Inspection Items and then go back and have to answer Styles and Materials). For example, inspecting a kitchen has 20 items: Stove, Refrigerator, Sink, Microwave, dishwasher, drawers, counter tops,etc. With the Homegauge "Walk sheets, or even with the companion device, you first have the Inspection Items and have to go through all 20 of the items answering the Inspections Points questions. After going through all those items, you have another tab Styles and Materials, and then you have to go back through the kitchen looking at the same 20 items: Stove, Refrigerator, Sink, Microwave, dishwasher to answer the Styles and Material questions. Would be so much easier if when you were at the Stove section in the inspection template it asked all the Styles and Materials questions, and then the inspection points so you are done with Stove, and then have you move onto the Refrigerator - instead of having to go though the same items twice. Pros I like that the NRVIA organization has a standardize format for RV inspection reports. It has an boilerplate format that covers most all aspects of reporting on an RV inspection. Cons 1.) You end up covering the same inspection points twice because HomeGauge Walk sheets and report input have two different tabs: Inspection Points and Styles and Materials, forcing you to flip pages or going back to the same item twice. 2.) HomeGauge templates are a boilerplate covering most all aspects of an inspection. It is not easy to modify the templates for an inspection. If you do not need 30% of the sections in the boiler plate, you still have to tab through, or answer, or report N/A for 30% of the form. Have not found HomeGauge easy to modify templates. I've complained before about the username and password feature in order to view the reports and signing the contract is very difficult for some people. Pros I like the software overall. Doing the reports is easy once you learn the system. I do have some issues with the signing of the contract. Cons I do not like that my agents and my clients have to put a username and a password in in order to see their reports and for the customer to get their contract. I have lost numerous real estate agents because of this feature. I do like the homegauge software but if this does not change I may have to find a new supplier for reports. It is very comforting to know that there is someone to talk to when you run into a problem that you know there is a fix for. Pros The software is easy to use and customizable to fit the inspectors inspection style and methods. The software has different inspection templates for different types of properties which the inspector has the ability to create others. Cons I have not found a lot of issues with the program or the way I use it. I don't believe I follow a traditional method for its use but find the software adaptable to my style and method which I have never been disappointed with the software's abilities or performance. (a real human answers the phone) Pricing is very reasonable as well. We've been using this software for approx 7yrs. Pros The software is pliable in that it is designed primarily for home inspections but we use it for energy audits and it's very easy to use and customize to fit your needs.
