Director of Operations Used the software for: ### "Not intuitive, online training is cumbersome, boring, many many hours." October 6, 2009 2.0 I'll give it a c minus - not recommended. Even though the product has some very good features, there is a large 'hump' you have to get through in order to get it up and going. If you insist on using it, buy unlimited phone support and forget the expensive training modules. Pros Many features, reasonable price (except for training modules). Cons Not intuitive or user friendly, difficult to wade through at first. I paid $500 for their 'training' which consists of hours and hours of videos, some with 'computer voices' rather than humans. When I asked support to help me set up a mass email, they told me NO, that I had not spent enough time going through the training for them to be willing to spend the time to help me. We are quite pleased with the software and are sharing our successes with you because eTapestry is an easy and affordable database for our organization. Used the software for: ### "Pros and Cons of eTapestry" July 10, 2014 3.5 Pros eTapestry offers a very comprehensive approach to fundraising. It allows you to accumulate a great of data and analyze it however you see fit. I like that it clearly will remain functional for many years into the future of our non-profit. Cons The product is capable of doing so much that it seems nothing is simple. I run a small non-profit that typically raises $250,000 a year. I am not as sophisticated as the product. I don't find the creation of reports or queries to be intuitive. While I understand the company's reliance on chat rooms and email, I would very much welcome the opportunity to actually talk with someone in support. I use it daily for different functions: managing and tracking donors and volunteers, e-communications, and mailings. It is easy to use and has saved us an immense amount of time since we switched from our older database. I would recommend it to anyone looking to make your time in a busy field make the most impact. Pros It organizes all our information together rather than having bits and pieces in different places. This is certainly a product we can grow into and one that I think pushes us to do new things we just couldn't do before with so few staff. Cons When the product was sold to me, I felt like there would be a ton of support. Their support can be confusing at times. This might be because we are such a small non-profit that we don't have a dedicated staff person for our database. It's hard to decipher through all of their help options. Most of the help is through online resources and chatting. You probably won't get a live person unless it will generate more business for them, like signing up for the merchant processing system. Sending customized emails was tedious and should have been more straight forward. Pros I like being able to include text giving and to have several means of contacts with customers. Cons This software was beyond difficult to use. It also is priced well over double of what similar software solutions are priced that can do the same things. However, when the right people were made aware of my situation, the company was extremely attentive. They set up a session to address my concerns and to create a way to make the program more useful to my organization. Cons The sales team is very attentive to prospective buyers, but once they've made the sale, it is unclear who you should contact with questions. You can kind of get passed around between departments and employees where you get one piece of advice from one source and another piece of advice from another. Review Source MH Mary H. It is complex enough to analyze data to help guide my fundraising efforts while being easy enough to use that I was able to start doing basic functions from day 1. In addition, eTapestry provides access to training opportunities from basic to advanced that makes me confident that I will be able to master the software. Their support, one-on-one and through videos, webinars, etc., is impressive. I always feel that they want me to succeed and will do whatever they can to help. Cons So far, don't have a lot of negative to say. They have had a bit of trouble getting my billing straight, however I think that's primarily due to my situation being a bit odd (I am technically a consultant, but still head of the Foundation. Cons Some aspects of building a query and running reports are challenging. Often, I find myself going in circles trying to get to the information I need - and although a it might be a con for the software, I also attribute it to my lack of experience. The product fits my needs for donor records, contact, and organization. I like that it's online "in the cloud" so that I'm not updating software and/or having to worry about losing my data due to equipment failure. It is very user-friendly and very effective for reporting, etc. Cons There are some reporting features that could be more streamlined and easier to run. I don't love having to purchase "modules" for features. Sometimes too many choices or having cafeteria plans just feels overwhelming! But honestly, those are very minor issues in the grand scheme. But more importantly, the vendor is there 100% of the way to back you up and provide support quickly and easily. The data conversion process was nothing short of amazing. The team that was assigned to me included professional and very thorough individuals. They will work with you until it is complete and accurate. Cons Sometimes, it would be easier to pick up the phone to get support. All of the tech support is handled through email and their knowledge base. Pros I like the design of the product, it is nice to the eyes and is not so overwhelming. I especially like that there is a summary on the first thing that comes up when you log in. I also like how there is an option for a mobile app. I also like the "walk me through" button. Cons There are a lot of different things that come with this program. Some of the things like "Mass interactions" or "personas" there is a lot you can do with an account. Sometimes it gets overwhelming. Review Source CH Chloe H. Their sales people and programmer were extremely helpful in moving us from our old system to eTapestry, and the training modules have been great at getting us up and running. What I really love about eTapestry, though, is the incredible wealth of information and customization it allows for and about our donor data. Cons The system does so much that there is a bit of a learning curve getting used to it, but you get out what you put in. The training videos, webinars, and one-one help from the vendor is fantastic. I have worked with a couple other donor databases where information was hidden and hard to find, even using the search feature. The eTapestry dashboard is easy to navigate, changes to suit your needs, and is user-friendly. Working with the different consultants at Blackbaud has been a pleasant experience. They have been helpful and supportive during our transition and very efficient with converting our data. The ability to upload PDF files right into records and to connect with Outlook to link email conversations as well. Blackbaud is quick to answer questions, phone calls, and inquiries. They are friendly and willing to make sure you are satisfied with the information and product. Cons Like other similar software products, there is a very specific amount of compatibility with other offerings like existing websites, customer management software, and shopping cart interfaces. We can set it up for almost any type of reporting that we need. There are preset reports and queries, but we have the ability to design our own reports and queries as well. Also, the customer support by phone, email, and chat is outstanding. Cons There are a few areas where I have had to figure out my own workaround to get what I needed. It has great reporting tools and pre built reporting templates. Cons While its very easy to use for small orgs, its not the ideal for orgs with millions of records because it does not have the necessary data management tools to keep the data clean.
