February 17, 2016 5.0 Pros HeavyBids customer service is by far the best I have encountered in my work and personal life. They are always there, usually on the 2nd ring but def by the 3rd! HeavyBid has such customizable features they always have an other or an answer! Cons Only negative is that the system doesn't have a takeoff software in its product lines, maybe this will be added to future editions. Cons i have very few complaints, but if i have to come up wit a downfall it is HCSS's willingness to listen and try to implement too many requests. these requests sometimes burden the system. Cons Career learning opportunity when using this complex and detailed estimating program. Demands on Head Estimator to manage the program reduce the estimating capacity of that individual. Foreman and Superintendents are able to track time, submit time etc. from the field without having to go into the office. Things are timely! When bidding large DOT projects we can bring the crews in with the activity and it saves an enormous amount of time by not having to building your crew for each activity. Cons I do not like the amount of clicks that is required to create an estimate. I did see some improvement when modify the crews for the new version we can now do it without clicking on modify crew, then selecting the equipment and or operator that we want to change. I set this up with my employer in 2003, left the company, and returned 7 years later. It was very easy to jump back in and pick up where I left off with very little learning curve. Cons That it is in Houston and not San Francisco. It would be great to have some localized offices in major cities that have increased access to training. The customer service is very professional, I am impressed that they give solutions right away. Cons HeavyBid just need to improve on their mobile app because it's very hard to manage to report. HCSS provides great support. Cons Change order entry could be a little easier with regards to the item description. I like the clearness of info regarding markup % and the ease of adjusting pricing by up or % on each line item. Cons There isnt a whole lot that I dont like about heavy bid. Cons I really wish product had an undo button. There are many instances when you accidenty delete a valuable piece of iformation that you need. once you delete it it is gone unless you have backed up the estimate and go back to an earlier copy. The Hcss support team is the best I've dealt with from any software company. Cons The laptop version was very challenging for our foreman to use. It's amazingly intuitive and built in a logical manner that follows right along with how a construction estimator thinks. The level of service before, during, and especially after the sale is beyond compare. I never cease to marvel that when most software companies have scaled back their technical support, HCSS just keeps improving theirs. Cons The software is geared primarily toward large highway project contractors. It works quite well for companies that specialize more in the private market. My only suggestion would be to increase the ability to customize things like bid alternates to allow for the ever-changing ways that private owners request bids to be compiled. Whenever we have issues with the product there is always someone there to help out. Cons When the calendar year ends, if an item is in process, the quantity goes away. This is only on the tablet. I used it for estimating for about 1.5 years and have used it to understand and keep track of cost codes for 6 months. For estimating I think it is a great tool that will help you accomplish about anything that you can think of. Adding labor, equipment, creating master estimates, copying bid items or replacing them, etc. Integration with a heavy job is smooth and it becomes a great tool for project management to create change orders and look at resources estimated. Pros A number of features that are so helpful to estimate and record estimating process. Being able to attach documents to estimates as well as notes.
