I used it for estimating for about 1.5 years and have used it to understand and keep track of cost codes for 6 months. For estimating I think it is a great tool that will help you accomplish about anything that you can think of. Adding labor, equipment, creating master estimates, copying bid items or replacing them, etc. Integration with a heavy job is smooth and it becomes a great tool for project management to create change orders and look at resources estimated. Pros A number of features that are so helpful to estimate and record estimating process. Being able to attach documents to estimates as well as notes. July 18, 2014 5.0 Pros There are a lot of great features in Heavy, all of which help save time putting estimates together, which allows me to spend more time with the takeoffs and fielding the projects. Some of the more important features are the ability to setup labor, crews, equipment, and materials in to the database, allowing for quick entry into the activities. Also, having a library estimate almost completely populates the projects for me as soon as the bid items have been entered! The few times I've had to call customer service, they always pick up within three rings, and I haven't been able to stump them yet. Cons It's hard to find something not to like in the program. There are a few modules that I haven't invested too much time into figuring out, but that's more me than them. Review Source JE James E. This is software designed to be used how the Contractor needs, not how some software designer thinks. Cons Sometimes having to filter through level one support to get to someone who can help. The product itself is very powerful while still maintaining its user friendly nature. Every time I have called they have been extremely helpful and have solved my issues. I wish every tech company had as good of tech support as HCSS. Cons I have no complaints. The staff has great knowledge and are always calm and easy to talk to regardless of the issue. Cons That is a tough question as you are asking me to discuss an tool that I love and rely on everyday. The way the program manages equipment cost is very good and helps us to manage our costs. Cons The product is based on older technology and an update to the overall tech would be great. The customer support for this product is second to none. Estimators can be more efficient, and spend more time evaluating a project rather than spending time on data entry. Cons There can be a large learning curve for setup. Cons Up until recently, the refresh of quantities did not always stay in sync. I think this has been fixed. July 17, 2014 4.5 Pros I like the ease of data entry and the ability to translate that data into other work items and activities. Also, the ability to use normal reports with the options of customizing each report for each bid saves time and is advantageous in the competitive highway construction hard bid sector. The customer service is very quick and willing to assist with my needs and to get me answers. Cons You have to take an extra step when adding resources to an activity. You forget sometimes and try to enter equipment and labor, and it kicks you out to another step that I feel is really more of a hassle than help, especially when making last minute adjustments. You can make material codebooks which save all materials that you would ever use and you can keep historical pricing for each piece of material to use. Cons What I like least about this product is DBE options. It is hard for me to figure out if I am meeting the DBE requirements of the project without exporting to excel and doing this separately. Being able to utilize both Heavy Bid & Heavy Job make my day-to-day tasks easy. I'm able to extract the information easily and turn it our the our field quickly.
