### "Seems to be a quality product for a nitch market."

February 16, 2018

4.0

Pros

The software seems to be pretty full proof and the staff that use it seem to be pretty happy with it. They use it to build timelines for cases and then share it with each other to do case reviews.

Cons

The biggest complaint I have had is that the software is pretty locked down to only being able to access it and edit it through the pc based app. Users have been crying for a web-based alternative or at least something they could easily see on their phones and/or iPads.

### "Recommend for legal cases"

March 3, 2020

5.0

For complicated cases or cases involving a large amount of people or details, this is a fantastic tool for creating visuals and organizing information.

Pros

This product is powerful. For big cases, it is a fantastic tool to keep track of facts, people involved, timelines, etc, and create visuals of how the who's, whats, and whens are related. I love that you can tag certain pieces of information or people within facts and easily search and sort by those key pieces.

Cons

The price point is a little high but if used regularly, you will get your money's worth. I felt that the tutorials weren't great which makes it a little difficult to learn the full potential of the product, but with some patience and digging around, you can be figured out.

### "New is not always better"

November 26, 2025

1.0

Very negative. I was never able to get it to fully work and wasted a lot of time trying. I wish we could persuade Lexis to go back to the Desktop programs or at a minimum, make sure all of the key features are incorporated. CaseMap desktop was a gamechanger for my practice and really allowed me to keep up with firms that had more manpower. It is so disappointing that Lexis has dropped it for this inferior product that in many ways, slowed me down.

Pros

Nothing, honestly. It is so inferior to CaseMap 14, or even earlier versions that I cannot think of a single "pro".

Cons

It is a clumsy, inconsistent shell of the beauty that was CaseMap 14. Some major deficiencies: It has taken months to try and upload all of my case documents; it lacks the Adobe integration that allowed me to Bates stamp my documents and then send them to CaseMap, straight to the documents index/spreadsheet - as a small firm, this saves me hundreds of hours per case; many of the links are broken or don't work as well such as creating a fact from a document; support is useless - as a longtime CaseMap user, I seem to be more knowledgeable; finally, I have confidentiality concerns with it being cloud based that I do not feel are adequately addressed. Another issue: when indexing, you can only make changes one document at a time and you must open each one up to do so. This is incredibly time consuming if, for example, I know documents 1-100 are emails, I cannot just copy and paste that down the spreadsheet as a time saver; I have to open up the index box for each document and input that individually. Some of the additional components no longer seem to exist or integrate either, such as Time Map.

### "Map out you case with CaseMap"

March 26, 2019

4.0

I've used Casemap many times over the years and it has been a great tracker of matters and data related to those cases. If you aren't using Casemap you aren't managing your cases, the are managing you...

Pros

\-Organize information and data -Map out the issues, facts, and other data points in the matter -Track tasks & completion dates -Sync issues with deposition transcripts to help keep matter together

Cons

\-No Web based solution -Starting to feel like an old dog, even though it's still very reliable

### "CaseMap is easy to use and very useful."

March 11, 2019

4.0

Pros

What I liked most about this software was its ease of use. I have had new users to the software pick it up within minutes.

Cons

What I liked least about this software was that it was almost too simplified. I feel like there could be additional content written into this program for additional functionality. We primarily used it for its ability to share timelines of a cases evolution.

### "Great features…if you can find them"

March 11, 2021

3.0

Because I am a Mac user, I was hesitant to use CaseMap. But they told me they were coming our with a cloud based version. I called and called for over a year, and finally they told me the cloud based version would be released soon. So I arranged to sign up so I could get started on my project and at least get the documents uploaded. But that proved impossible for the reasons described above. When I next called support I learned the cloud version had been released. I asked to be transferred over to it. They would not let me use it unless I extended my recent subscription for a second year! Since, at this point I had seen nothing to indicate this product would actually be usable, I declined to commit to another year. I am stuck paying for most of a year for software I cannot use. I feel that a software publisher should stand behind their product and not force someone who was trying to use it to pay to discover if the new version is as bad as the old.

Pros

I thought this program would facilitate organization of material for a court case and allow me to relate bits of evidence to certain witnesses and certain issues. Although it supposedly does that, I could not get it to work.

Cons

(1) In trying to use the program you need to enter names. But the program insists on creating nick names, and it insists on a separate nickname for each person in a given role. I understand why this makes sense to a software engineer, but It does not make sense to a lawyer. (2) Commands are scattered around in different places. I wanted to add a document. There are all manner of icons at the top, but none of them would let me add a document. I called customer support, and they walked me through a convoluted process to add a large group of documents all at once. It might be that this required me to buy a separate component. I really could not tell. When I went back to the program on my own I could not recreate what support had shown me. (3) I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to add just one document. This should be easy. There should be a button at the top to add just one document or many. I called customer support, and discovered I have to go back a screen to addd a document from a side menu in the same window where I sign on to the case. But adding a person was done from the main window using a button on the top. Why this inconsistency? Why not have a consistent and intuitive interface? (4) In due course I realized I would have to invest countless hours in training to learn how to use this clunky program.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing CaseMap+ AI

In the end, I didn't choose CaseMap. I think CaseMap is OK for large firms that can have people spend the time needed to learn it and support everyone else. I do not have that much time, and my clients cannot afford to pay me to spend that much time. In my FileMaker solution I do not need to hunt around for a way to import a document. I just drag the document onto a window and it is there. Also, the fact that CaseMap will not let me switch to the cloud without subscribing for an entire second year says to me they need to rely on a contract to keep a customer, not on customer satisfaction. I was very disappointed. Unless you have lots of time or staff support, my opinion is to avoid CaseMap.

Switched from

[Claris FileMaker](https://www.capterra.com/p/162784/FileMaker/)

I have used FileMaker since the first Apple laptop to organize data and help with putting on a trial. But the tools I had used were no longer updated. The problem with FileMaker currently was that you cannot highlight text in a pdf. After my debacle with CaseMap I have decided to go back to FileMaker which does everything else better except highlight text. FileMaker has helped me win cases, including the two longest trials of my 40 year career. It is not perfect, but it is very good.

### "Terrible Product"

August 13, 2025

1.0

4.I just completed a review of records and discovered that the Text Source links are not working. That requires that I go to the document and search 700+ pages to find the document that I associated a fact with. Again, completely dysfunctional. 5.When the Text Source feature works, I am taken to the page in a pdf that the fact is linked to. However, even then, I have to scroll through 100s of facts to get back to the fact that I was just on. This makes a review of the facts functionally useless. What we could get done in one hour with CaseMap 14 is now taking us 3 hours!!!

Pros

CaseMap 14 was great but it is now about 10 years old and is no longer supported. So, we had to upgrade to CaseMap+. What a disaster!

Cons

1.The Make a Fact feature fails to open a dialog box about every 7 attempts. After waiting and realizing that the Make a Fact dialog box is not opening and attempting to repeat the process without success, we have to close out of the browser and restart. 2.When we attempt to restart the browser, we sometimes experience CaseMap+ telling us that it cannot find any cases to retrieve. I just spend 15 minutes waiting for that issue to resolve. 3.When using the Search within Document feature and clicking on the blue colored word, the program freezes.

### "Excellent Trial/Document Management Software"

October 15, 2018

This software is user friendly (even an attorney can figure it out!). It helps organize trial exhibits so that they are easily accessible and easy to present to a jury.

Cons

### "Another great product from LexisNexis"

June 11, 2019

5.0

Pros

Being able to add in essentially every detail in a matter is a great asset to the organisation of a file. Limits the risk of information being lost or forgotten. A great organisational and brainstorming tool.

Cons

A web-based access would be preferable to allow access to all persons acting.

### "Don't Waste Your Money on CaseMap"

June 24, 2024

1.0

I hate it since it went cloud-based. It takes so long to create facts. It is difficult to generate a report that is customized to your preferences. Their data storage failed us. It is way too expensive. Go back to the desktop version.

Pros

It used to be a good program when it was the desktop version. It was terrible when it went cloud based only.

Cons

Difficult to learn and use. Extremely time intensive. Too expensive. Data storage security failed us - they lost all data entered for an entire case and could not recover it.

### "A nice tool for law offices"

January 22, 2020

5.0

I've worked with many types of databases in the past, and this is one of the best. In addition, the CaseMap suite includes other software that is very helpful and interacts with CaseMap, such as TextMap. You can import depositions into this, link exhibits, etc., a very useful part of the Suite.

Pros

This is a great database program, designed specifically for law offices. I use it regularly whether we have a big case we are working on, or just to PDF emails in bulk, it works great! It also makes Bates numbering very easy, and enables easy searches when you import. You can set different criteria, sort by multiple terms, designate key documents, among other nice options. With the plug-ins, you can easily import files directly from the document itself, or you can bulk import multiple documents at once.

Cons

There is a bit of coding you need to do with your imported documents (some things are coded immediately by the software though), but this is expected since it geared to be so user-specific so I really don't mind! One thing that could be a little difficult is if you rename or move a document that has been imported the link is broken in CaseMap, but there are ways to work around that.

### "Terrible Experience"

November 21, 2019

2.0

I used CaseMap for just under a year. Lexis Nexis is one of the absolute worst companies to work with. Their customer support is nothing short of terrible. The company is unbelievably slow to roll out new features. They rarely ever innovate. And in the rare instance when they do the modifications are very minor. They clearly don't listen to their customers. The software offers a lot of features but it is very confusing to figure out. And Lexis is no help in this regard. You are completely on your own. Their support page is an embarrassment. Their "Lexis University" is pathetic. And, despite the many available features, I found the software to be bloated and bug ridden. Couldn't keep up with the amount of data I was inputting. Kept freezing up. And I was working on a Surface Book 2 and Surface Studio 2. Top of the line hardware. I have no idea how this company stays in business. I really wanted to like this software. I thought it had a lot of potential. But I was wrong. Every time I do business with Lexis Nexis I regret it. This time was no different. Buyer beware.

Pros

That you did not need an internet connection to access your case information ... which matters when you find yourself in a courtroom with no internet access.

Cons

The software was bloated and slow. The larger the case the worse the software performed. To the point that I had to throw up my hands and walk away.

### "Excellent Trial Prep Software"

April 19, 2018

4.0

Excellent trial prep on my laptop with electronic discovery.

Pros

This software makes it easy to organize all of your facts, people, documents, and events so that you can be better prepared for trial. Additionally, you can have everything in one place instead of multiple folders and notebooks.

Cons

Analyzing data and documents takes time. That said, it always takes time and the speed that you can react at trial is incredible compared to the old fashioned paper and sticky note approach.

### "Casemap Will Make You a Better Lawyer"

April 25, 2020

5.0

Pros

I have been using this software for about 20 years in my practice at https://underwoodlawoffice.com. It’s ability to organize the facts of your case is unrivaled. It will give you nearly instant access to the tiniest of facts day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute and even second by second. By using this software, you will see how the pieces of your case puzzle fit together.

Cons

They need cloud based multi user version.

### "Steep learning curve"

March 18, 2017

4.0

For the relatively complicated matters this does a good job of tying in documents to witnesses and parties. It has a fairly steep learning curve. You should have a backup system the first time you use this at trial (like good old paper and pencils and an outline of how you will present your case) in the event you start having trouble managing the software. Have a file for each witness and party with documents to be introduced through that person or documents to be used for impeachment and other purposes through that person. Copies of deposition pages pertinent to that witness/party should also be in their file along with a script of questions and expected replies. Questions should also be aimed at eliciting the proof you need to make out a prima facie case and beyond.

Easy to navigate and see documents and easy to upload and export. It probably would have been fine for smaller less paper intensive cases

Cons

The functionality of this software is not what we needed but were told it would be able to do what we needed. It was not able to search our documents.
