I would recommend it this product to other organization's. Pros The reporting and report generation is wonderful. After a one-on-one meeting with a support services explaining the details and how to use it has been a day-to-day reporting tool our company uses. Cons The only thing recently is the fact that after implementing a new system Unanet, that the amount of time to update the data has taken up to 1 hour to update. We receive an answer to our requests quickly. After a couple of training sessions, we were able to use Spreadsheet Server with ease. I can generate reports quickly and have up to date information. Once you get to know Spreadsheet server and how it works, you can get things done. Cons We were accustomed to GL Wand, which is client-based. Cons Only negative I have experienced is the upgrading of reports that needs to happen as we have upgraded over the years, since we are longtime users our reports are old but with the support team we have been able to resolve issues that have come up. I love all the options I have, I can access any GL data I choose. I'm able to build all of my financial statements, budgets, and financial ratios in one file and it updates effortlessly from period to period. Pros I spend less time mining data and more time analyzing the data. I use this for financial reporting and budgeting and any scenario I can think of or want to analyze, I'm able to build it into my spreadsheet and have it update the data based on the period I want to analyze. Cons My only drawback is occassionally Spreadsheet Server loses a connection to my data and I have to contact support for a reboot. Which isn't inconvenient during the week, but support is not able to assist me on the weekends. Reason for choosing Spreadsheet Server Someone from my Vistage Group saw how cumbersome it was to prepare different types of financial reports and recommended we look into Spreadsheet server. It was the only product we considered and we loved the demo. Ease of use sold us on the product. Cons Initial setup & assigning the license for every individual user, mostly requires SPS support team help for complete the setup. Some intermittent issue. I was involved in implementation a few years ago, and now I continue to use this software every month. Integrating with cloud-based software was the last hurdle I had, and they resolved that over a year ago. I can't recommend this software enough. As long as you have someone comfortable using it, you may be surprised at how many different applications it will have in your business. Pros You can build reports quickly that are easy to share, but really I use it for forensic accounting in my property management company. Being able to pull data in, then drill down for more information is huge. Being able to shift between periods/YTD reporting on the fly is helpful, and being in Excel makes it very easy to pivot and build tables or charts using the information Spreadsheet Server is pulling in. We have multiple companies with different ERP systems, so Spreadsheet Server's ability to pull data from multiple sources has been invaluable to me. This saves me a lot of time that would have gone to drilling down into information in each ERP. Cons I have plans to build more custom queries, but I wish there was a database of common custom queries I could review. I suppose this would have to be user-generated, but perhaps Insight could host a forum, or post commonly asked-for custom queries. Review Source JD Jeff D. Controller Insurance Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Very useful for our needs" April 23, 2024 5.0 I have been using Spreadsheet Server for almost 17 years and find it one of the most valuable softwares I have purchased. It allows for almost real-time changes to reports (with a cloud based GL you do have to refresh the data warehouse, but for us that is less than 5 minutes) and the ability to create ad-hoc reporting and drilldowns for researching issues is incredibly fast and easy to do. Pros Easy to use at any level of excel knowledge. The drilldown function is invaluable to us for doing ad hoc queries and research on account values. It is also very useful to be able to create reporting on the fly for senior management, pulling in only data they want to see and analyze. Cons Depending on the size of the excel file, number of columns and number of worksheets it can take a while to refresh the data when you first open it up. Once the data has refreshed though, making changes is instantaneous. Reason for choosing Spreadsheet Server Ease of use for Spreadsheet Server seemed better over the other alternatives. Pros Once you set up your spreadsheets this is a great tool that is able to give real time data in the formats we want to us. We are on Deltek VantagePoint and this is next level for creating our graphs and tracking financial performance. Cons Getting a new computer can be time consuming for the setup. As noted, I have implemented it in 4 companies as it is easy to learn, very flexible, and intuitive for Excel users. Pros It is intuitive. If you can use Excel, it's an add-in. It is very easy to use and flexible for different formats. I've implemented in in several companies due to the poor or overly complicated reporting software they have used in the past. Cons You have to be careful not to have too many tabs with formulas, as it can quickly bog the system down and freeze it. As long as the workbook is not too complex, the refresh works very quickly. Cons There isn't much. The only drawback is change control. Since it is an add-in to Excel, anyone can go in and change a report. Also, you have to touch every report if a change is made. This is definitely a minor drawback, as there are ways to implement controls. The speed with which we can issue reports, modify financials, or create new reports/analysis has greatly improved by using Spreadsheet Server. Pros Spreadsheet server gives the control of report writing to accountants all within native Excel that we are all familiar with. Implementation was simple and quick and involved very little IT support. The tool is simple to use and only required a few hours of training to get everyone started on building their own reports. Cons With Oracle Cloud our Oracle tables have to be replicated to a separate server. This means reporting isn't real time (but it is close). While software updates have helped in the past, limitations remain in handling large volumes of transaction data. We have been able to analyze data is so many more ways on a month to month basis. Budgets are now easier to review . Pros I like the ease of the product. Before Duggan I had not used Spreadsheet Server. It was easy to learn and manipulate. I have been able to improve and make our financials visually appealing.
