April 11, 2018 5.0 Better management of calibrations through use of software. Before Cal Control we were documenting all our calibration data and records through Excel Spreadsheets. This has streamlined our process and allows far better data collection and record keeping. Pros This software is extremely easy to set up and use. We don't utilize every feature that's available, but it's nice to know it's there if we decide to. The customer support team is fast, friendly, and knowledgeable. The developer also seems very receptive to tweaks and modifications if you should happen to notice anything that may personally benefit your operation. Ongoing support and frequent updates are also a couple of things I like about this program. Cons I honestly have no complaints or dislikes. This software fits our needs and plays an important role in our daily operations. If I had one wish, it would be that this software tied into our instrumentation repair history database. The UI was easy to navigate for a variety of user competencies Pros Tailored for the calibration professional. Small IT footprint (doesn't require massive resources). Very good tech support when needed. Extremely budget friendly Cons Our original implementation was using an Access Database. This relied on a stable local network, which we unfortunately didn't have. Resulted in drop-outs and crashes. We migrated to a Cloud SQL server and never had a problem. The demands are significant and this software helps meet the tasks at hand. Pros Calibration Control provides a comprehensive platform for maintaining current equipment and instrumentation as well as qualifications for people and processes. We can ensure that all the operational aspects of our business remain ready. The tool allows a great deal of flexibility much of which I am still learning and incorporating, often with the help of the intensive documentation provided online and occasional contact direct with the folks behind the scenes. They are very responsive and always ready to offer more assistance as needed. Cons If I had one wish it would be that there was a way to increase readability by increasing not just the grid size itself but having the font follow in scale like many other applications with a zoom function. It's fairly easy to use, but there are a lot of useless features that just complicate and confuse things. Cons Reporting and filtering are terrible. The important part to note is that all reported bugs are typically identified and fixed by the great team over at Calibration Control. Pros Calibration Control is simple to use and easy to self admin. This software is great for calibration companies as well as companies looking to just track and maintain company assets. The software allows for many customizations and the ability to suit many various needs. Cons The only downfall of Calibration Control is the ability to access and submit data without an internet connection. As a calibration provider mainly performing work in the field this has been more of an inconvenience than an obstacle. The time we’ve saved on documentation alone is massive, and knowing that the support team actually listens to my feedback makes a huge difference. Pros We clawed back a ton of time. It handles the tracking so well that we can actually focus on the work in the shop instead of being stuck behind a screen doing manual data entry. It isn't a "one-size-fits-all" deal. We were able to tweak it to fit exactly how we run things, which is huge for us. Their support is top-tier. Any time I’ve had an issue, they either fix it on the spot or tell me they’ll put it in a future update. Cons There’s definitely a bit of a learning curve at the start because there are so many options to customize. It’s a minor hurdle, but you do have to put in a little time upfront to get it dialed in. It possesses many useful tools that I was able to work in to my own processes, and a great set of visualization tools that make it easy to look at my equipment from a broader perspective. Pros Calibration Control has made tracking thousands of items so simple and efficient, with very little need for lengthy training. The program was easily tailored to my site's needs, allowing for a straightforward application that met my criteria. The auto-notification feature for equipment service is a huge help, saving me so much time on a day-to-day basis. Cons While the program does not require any in-depth training, not all of the features are inherently straightforward. We started with a really early, standalone version on a few computers, and everyone already loved how easy it was to use back then. Now that we've finally upgraded, we are absolutely thrilled! There are so many more options, and having it network-compatible is fantastic. There wasn't much of a learning curve, but the help topics and references are so extensive, they cover virtually everything you could want to do. What truly makes this product stand out, though, is the customer service. I have dealt with a lot of customer support over the years, and none of them even come close to the level of service I get with Calibration Control. They genuinely go above and beyond to help. The representative I worked with was incredibly she was very patient, explained every step clearly and concisely, and took the time to fully understand what I needed to get done. It’s a top-tier product with unmatched support. Pros Honestly, the best part about this Calibration Control software is how simple it is to use. Right from the installation, it's so easy to figure out and navigate, very minimal learning curve. Plus, the options for customizing things are endless—it really lets you set it up exactly the way you need it. In addition, I truly appreciate the security features and security levels you can have with the program to ensure your information is not only safe but only certain individuals can modify it. They've been able to remotely figure out every situation I've had with ease. Very sharp in not just ApeCal, but their understanding of computer operations and file storage has helped to rectify every imaginable issue. Clicking and dragging a picture or a calibration cert is so easy too! I find the user interface a somewhat confusing and non-linear. Reason for choosing Calibration Control Combination of flexibility, price, and scalability made it a clear winner. I have never used a software in any application or field that is so responsive to issues we encountered. Even when the issue was 100% operator error, there was no condenscending attitude. All issues we have encountered have been logged and fixed in each new release, even if we were the only customer having an issue. In fact, our company is still using Windows XP (one of the only customers still using this) and he has given us XP specific help and functionality, even though his software is developed for Windows7 platform, and technically we should be upgrading to Windows7 to take advantage of all of Calibration Control's features. Absolutely unmatched customer support! Pros Unsurpassed support. Affordable software. Uncomplicated, easy to train others to use. Cons Minor problem is having to manually type calibration measurements specific to each new tool, instead of being able to have this info saved in a template so that you can save time entering info an new similar tools. This calibration meets all the requirement for ISO 9000:2008. also if you need a special field that is not in the program already you can call them and let them know what field you would like to see and they be happy to provide it. At one time I could do this with excel and my email calendar but as the list grew and our machine shop needed to use more devices to take the required measurements it became very cumbersome to manage the devices. Calibration Control has made it very easy to keep up with the devices again. Pros Very easy to add devices and keep everyone informed of upcoming due calibrations with the auto notify email option. Cons So far I have no complaints for this software, I.T. had it installed on the server the same day and I was adding devices with no training.
