### "Hassle free fully featured database "

February 25, 2019

5.0

I don't have to think about it, it works.

Pros

It is robust, fully featured and free. It has great front ends from different vendors, it is reliable and easy to use. It does not have its own SQL syntax like others, if you know SQL, it works and supports all the advanced features for later.

Cons

It's hard to say, I picked it up knowing little about database administration and it worked within minutes for me.

Pros

This manager has it all, with each update they have been implementing more functionalities, it is ideal for any project and maintains a strong integrity.

Cons

The implementation is different in each environment, it can be complicated when going to production.

### "PostgreSQL - Ideal for user app !!!"

July 25, 2021

5.0

I am truly grateful that I came across this program. I am in the middle of working on a chat application and PostgreSQL really came in and saved the day.

Pros

I really PostgreSQL becuase how its an open source project , and you can structure PostgreSQL to be both object-oriented and/or relational database functionality. I also like the fact, that a developer (me) can create complex queries.

Cons

PostgreSQL is alittle more complex database handler out on the market, but its really worth it once you know how it operates. It makes database manipulation fun for large scale projects that involve a lot, fast, and complex queries.

Reason for choosing PostgreSQL

Its fast and preform more ideal to large scale projects that require massive amount of querying, DB operations and DB complexities.

Switched from

[MySQL](https://www.capterra.com/p/11482/MySQL/)

While MySQL is not a bad product and it has its strong movements, I looked at PostgreSQL because of more data handling and manipulation a developer can achieve .

### "Probably the Best"

May 2, 2019

5.0

I have a growing level of experience with PostgreSQL and while professionally I rarely get to touch it, it is an interest of mine on my career path towards developing AI.

Pros

This is what I would go with in most ideal situations where I'm not coding in .NET languages. It supports the most operating systems, is open source, it handles massive amounts of data compared to all others, and while it may not support as many languages as MySQL it supports the important ones, like Python. It is excellent for data mining and machine learning applications as well as anything else AI related. It is the perfect DB for everything modern.

Cons

It's not user friendly at all. There are some open source GUI tools available but by and large it is command line driven and administered.

### "PostgreSQL is not for the 'weak'"

September 5, 2018

4.0

Overall, Postgresql works magic with data and guarantees data security (my opinion)

Pros

If you are a techie, linux user and very concerned about high end data security then Postgresql is your best bet. It has a light and pretty much textual interface that gives you the "let's get straight to business" feel. PostgreSQL syntax is quite different from mysql syntax so there is this peace of mind that comes with knowing that any developer handling your postgresql must be good. it has an overall Great performance and is a right fit for systems with low hardware specifications.

Cons

It has a boring interface and is less colourful or intriguing. It's complex to make postgresql database dump compatible with mysql.

### "Built a whole digitization production line around Postgres."

April 16, 2018

5.0

At the time we chose it, we got the speed of MySQQL and the reliability of Oracle for free. Now, it's still working and well maintened.

Pros

\- Reliability: we experienced some problems during production, absolutely none of them caused by Postgres - Future-proof: horizontal scalability provided by third-party tools (Postgres-BDR)

Cons

\- Hard to roll back on initial design - The new web-based client PgAdmin 4 is a regression from the old desktop client

### "A good SQL Database"

April 25, 2021

4.0

Overall, I am quite satisfied with this database.

Pros

It is easy to set up a PostgreSQL database. It can handle multiple requests at the same time thus reducing the latency.

Cons

It is a little on the expensive side and lacks a few features present in noSQL databases.

### "It is an excellent database manager"

June 20, 2018

5.0

With this manager I have handled most of my databases.

Pros

He is the most powerful base manager I have ever met, and the best thing about this manager is the storage capacity he has.

Cons

When I have problems or errors with this manager, there is not much documentation to be able to solve the problems and this gives me delays when it comes to working.

### "Very good "

December 18, 2019

5.0

our experience is using the database was very positive because it is very easy to use this database

Pros

The database is very good, has many important features, but a very important point is that this database is open source with a very permissive license (based on BSD and MIT), this type of license allows a good legal security and an excellent production cost.

Cons

practically without any negative point, the only one that could be a problem is the difficulty in setting up the bank, but using docker is very easy

### "The best open-source relational-database choice"

July 1, 2018

5.0

The best free/open-source object-relational database in the market.

Pros

PostgreSQL implements advanced SQL standards. It's a great transaction database, which fully implements triggers and functions. Always my first choice for 'from-scratch' development

Cons

Requires some maintenance otherwise performance significantly deteriorates. Not the first choice for a casual developer (petty).

### "Powerful on datatypes"

December 22, 2018

4.0

In general terms I love PostgreSQL, when I think on database, it is my first choice when I have to create something with open source languages.

Pros

I really like PostgreSQL, I'm a developer and sometimes we had to emulate some data types but with PostgreSQL, it have a lot of flexibility with the data types, we have real boolean and real JSON data types, that help me a lot with new developments

Cons

I really never had a con at all...Maybe what could be a con, could be the database manager that is kind of different to the rest of managers, but if you use a generic one you won't have any problem.

### "Best second choice"

February 15, 2023

4.0

Pros

Transactional features haves distinguished PostgreSQL from MySQL in the past and was our choice every ti e we need it. It is still very strong, with support for clustering.

Cons

unfortunately it has been surpassed by MariaDB in all areas in my opinion, and it rests only as a second choice if, by any reason, you can’t use MariaDB.

### "My database of choice"

June 22, 2021

5.0

Have been using it for many years and I'm very happy with it overall.

Pros

It's highly efficient and the query options and functions are almost endless. It works well with Hibernate which is essential to our business.

Cons

You do need some specialised skills to use Postgres to its full potential. But as a dev it hasn't been difficult for me to learn what is required to build more specialised queries.

### "Runs a 150GB DB containing a quarter million records without breaking a sweat"

June 7, 2017

5.0

Pros

Pretty much everything, although there are a few features from commercial databases that I'm hoping will make it in. After having used it for several years, and a certain "M" competitor for several years prior, I can confidently say that it's really hard to go wrong in recommending PostgreSQL to anyone with even a small amount of technical knowledge.

Cons

\- Setting up replication can be a bit tricky - There isn't really a good repository for an up-to-date (or per-version) list of common tips, tricks and queries. Often can be some googling to track down what you're looking for

### "Good data base"

May 7, 2018

4.0

I implemented in my own company this database, also I recommend use it

Pros

You can have a database with high performance, besides it is an open source technology that is common use with Ruby on Rails, Python or .NET Core

Cons

You need to have some experience to implement it in a production environment or linux server, generally the most common mistake is handle the users.

### "Very good open source database"

August 23, 2018

4.0

Pros

One of the best open source RDBMS database. Easy to integrate with services and works in high read/writes env. Advanced features like master slave replication are easy to implement and doesn't take too long for training or implementation. Used across the software industry, so it has good forums and blogs to support any issues.

Cons

It is very difficult to install postgres on production servers that doesnt have access to internet. Earlier versions of postgres doesn't support upsert functionality. Doesn't have a good database client. Doesn't have a good monitoring mechanism

### "My favorite flavor of SQL"

October 17, 2021

5.0

I've used Postgres mostly for my personal projects, though I've also used it professionally briefly (my company seems to prefer MySQL though, so it was mostly for prototyping purposes). I really like Postgres. It runs fast, it's easy to set up and run locally, and the tutorials are very simple. Most languages have simple and direct connections to use Postgres servers (ex. the pq package in Go) and it's super easy to interface with. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a flavor of SQL

Pros

\- Straightforward to set up and use - Plethora of tutorials online as well as good documentation - Connectivity via a number of different programming languages (personally, I've used both Go and C#) - It's really fast since it's written in C

Cons

\- This is such a minor thing, but I hate that there isn't technically a "SQL command" for showing your tables. With other flavors like MySQL, you can do "show tables" but you can't do that with Postgres. With Postgres the command is "\\dt". While this isn't a problem all the time, it's not technically a SQL command so some programming languages don't support it. Keep that in mind if you need to list your tables in your program for some reason.

### "My first experience with SQL many years ago. It was a great tool to learn on."

August 1, 2018

5.0

Learned SQL by playing with it and a local DB. Its robust enough to use professionally in large projects.

Pros

it is a great tool for beginners and experts alike to run databases with SQL or learn SQL language with local databases. It is robust, and works fast.

Cons

It has an obvious learning curve for beginners to know about all its quirks and hidden functions. But no other cons that I could find.
