### "Best database with GUI"

May 24, 2020

5.0

We use PostgreSQL as our day to day database to manage our applications whole data and the same is in use for years.

Pros

Some additional query features than MySQL, availability of GUI to manage, view, query, etc. database and schemas

Cons

It's ability to handle large datasets with efficiency, but that's the limitation of relational databases. A little difficult to understand the official documentation.

### "The best open source database IMO"

February 21, 2021

5.0

Awesome experience so far. PostgreSQL supports a lot of features to data analysts.

Pros

From a user perspective, PostgreSQL provides features for mostly everything you need. It's open source and well documented, with a lot of support from the community.

Cons

So far, I wasn't able to identify any cons about PostgreSQL. It's my favorite SQL client so far, and I'm advocating for it whenever I can.

### "Postgre review"

August 31, 2019

5.0

creation and use of Stored process, triggers, schemas, roles, and transactions.

Pros

PostgreSQL is a great and powerful database system, used in the management of object-related databases, bringing great performances on concurrency, transactions, and schema controls. Furthermore, PostgreSQL keeps focussing on the data secure through the different kind of authentications and access control process. Moreover, PostgreSQL is an open-source license, being very convenient for any company, and any professional developments, counting with complete documentation and community support.

Cons

PostgreSQL has proved to be a great tool, having a great performance on hardy scenarios. However, when is used on a huge amount of object-related requests, the server could show lag issues if the database isn't properly normalized by the developers or database manager or if you have a very low spec server.

### "Great database"

April 17, 2019

5.0

I use PostgreSQL for many of the web applications that I've built and usually have a great experience with it. When I run into issues, a quick web search finds me the answer I need.

Pros

It's easy to set up and maintain. Has great community support and can be used with a wide variety of frameworks to build amazing applications.

Cons

The default user credentials aren't always clear when setting up on a local machine.

### "A good DB for any kind of company"

August 19, 2023

4.0

Pros

It's a very powerful DB for the price, it has all the features and customization that any db admin needs.

Cons

Without a db admin, the features may be restricted to the basic ones, unless someone researches how to do things

### "Not fan of it, not at all"

August 13, 2019

2.0

I don’t see any reason to use this instead of MySQL unless it’s a program requisition, which is why we have it.

Pros

In my PostgreSQL most important part it’s being free. The rest seems a regular DBMS

Cons

PostgreSQL it’s hard to navigate and configure. Official tool to configure is messy and not very friendly. Performance is nothing special too.

Reason for choosing PostgreSQL

Application required PostgreSQL as DBMS

### "Free and Faster Database Mangement"

March 8, 2021

4.0

Pros

It can store a large volume of databases and faster data processing. It is cross-platform with no extra configuration for importing and exporting information. It is very comfortable to write SQL queries on the consoles.

Cons

I work both with Postgres and MySQL so finding syntax is a little discomforting but there is a large community for it to help me.

### "Amaing SQL Dialect and Database"

July 7, 2020

5.0

Having PostgresSQL has enabled me to streamline development of many data pipelines. Not having to fumble over function parameters because of PostgresSQL's intuitive operations has improved my ease of work.

Pros

Love this dialect. I find many of the built in function improve experience but simplifying the needs for cryptic code. For example, changing from data type to another data type, one can use the :: operator. This operator is quick and easy to understand.

Cons

Unfortunately, sometimes code needs to be translated to more standard SQL that would work across multiple dialect. While the built in functions of PostgresSQL has improved my easy of use and because some of these functions are not standard SQL, I find myself having to continue using more cryptic, yet standard, SQL.

### "One of the best to manage DB connections"

October 17, 2019

5.0

Pros

We have been using this software for a couple of years after we faced a lot of issues and freezes in MySQL. This is comparatively much much more smooth and handles multiple DB connections and inter-switching with no lags or hangs.

Cons

We were more accustomed to the MySQL interface so found a few minor UX improvements that can be done here but overall it's still good.

### "Il nostro db di riferimento"

April 22, 2021

5.0

### "More powerful than MySQL - but you probably don't need it"

July 17, 2022

5.0

I find Postgres to be useful in cases where you want to keep the vast majority of your application logic inside the database itself. Great for data analysis and machine learning applications - not so great for running a web service.

Pros

It is more feature rich than MySQL and supports very sophisticated requests. With enough experience, you can write a procedure that can merge and shape any data you could possibly derive from the tables, in any possible format, with little overhead.

Cons

No powerful GUI tools are available for administration. MySQL is a lot more convenient in day-to-day use thanks to PHPMyAdmin. Setting up and running the database is a bit convoluted as well - doesn't work reliably out of the box.

Alternatives considered

[MySQL](https://www.capterra.com/p/11482/MySQL/)

Reason for choosing PostgreSQL

I still mostly use MySQL, but Postgres is better for offline or one-time data analysis in my experience.

### "An easy way to access SQL"

February 5, 2020

4.0

After switching over from Access, it has been nice to be able to have a more robust experience.

Pros

The easy to understand interface. It is more intuitive than MySql, and is more enjoyable to work within.

Cons

It is a bit more difficult to work within multiple queries. The ability to quickly maneuver between different queries could be improved.

### "Good DBMS. Handles a lot of data without loss of performance"

December 4, 2017

5.0

It is a lot more efficient than the old database manager we used before.

Pros

It is very fast for running queries from bash (logged in by SSH) or within PGAdmin (from a distant client) ; the ability to lauch queries from PHP permits building web-apps using the database very simply.

Cons

Using variables in not as simple as in MySQL. It needs to use plSQL or mixing bash and SQL. I prefer PgAdmin 3 rather than PgAdmin 4. This new version seems to priorize design rather than ease of use.

Great product; easy to use with AWS RDS; lots of functionality

Pros
