We have had a wonderful experience overall, and we have been a customer for 7 years! A few little tweaks is all that's needed and FAMCare is always working to improve the product.

Pros

FamCare is very organized, and easy to use and navigate. Our staff are able to learn quickly how to navigate around in FAMCare. Everyone likes how one client's record is all together and with use of favorites, you can move around easily within a record. We love how easy it is to upload documents, and case notes have useful fields that are easy to use. We also appreciate the security available and the ability to view user data like last log on date and time. We truly value the announcements feature and use it regularly to increase positivity (we post positive messages only there!) FAMCare customer support is great and they respond quickly! They are always available to help us and get our questions answered and they care about their customers and the experience customers have using the platform.

Cons

Sometimes reports have extra rows or columns that we have to delete before manipulating the data in a spreadsheet, like a "RAW" data column that we cannot use. Not a huge deal but it just makes a few extra steps for us. A fun feature, the announcements, doesn't allow you to resize your uploaded image until after you save and schedule the announcement, so you have to go back to it a second time to resize it. If it's a large picture, when staff sign on, they won't be able to see the whole thing unless you resize it so it's smaller. Also, for a small non profit, FAMCare is expensive but we make it work.

Overall, I've had fun trying to figure out which new ways we could use it but I make sure I have lots of time to work on a new idea before starting because it always takes longer to learn the project then expected.

Pros

How customizable it is. Once we learned how to use it properly, we've learned many new applications for it. We had three project managers and each of them was wonderful to work with, well educated on FAMCare and very polite and friendly.

Cons

The steep learning curve and how complicated pathways are to navigate. I found both of these to be true as an admin and a user.

We switched to FAMCare as our data system last year, and the transition has been seamless. Staff are very happy with the system and its ease of use. FAMCare also has a very powerful reporting system.

Pros

FAMCare is extremely customizable, the interface is user-friendly and intuitive, and the reporting tools are great.

Cons

Sometimes minor bug fixes are very slow - FAMCare is quick on significant issues, but less important issues can take a while to resolve.

The training was wonderful and was very easy to follow along. I think more of the front-end building of the program should be done by FAMCare considering the money we pay for the program, however I like that we learned how to do some formatting on our own. This would not have been a problem if we had more time and man-power to do so. Overall, we are able to house our data in an efficient way!

Pros

The personalization of FAMCare makes it easy to continue our workflow and be able to document all information needed on our clients.

Cons

The reports are difficult to use and do not provide us with all of the data needed for our National census. We've had to do some of our own reporting in Excel to get the information for year-end.

I appreciate the easy access to get to and from a case, as well as now being able to see the notes placed on each case rather than closing a note and then having to go back and searching for the next note place on that specific case. It is now all there for me to see all at once.

Overall, The FAMCare database has allowed us to turn around large amounts of data into statistical insights in a fraction of the time it would have taken if performing the same function via spreadsheets.

Pros

The best feature about FAMCare is its versatility. It can be customized to meet anyone's data needs and the FAMCare team is a great resource to helping you tailor the database to meet your company's needs.

Cons

One of the cons is the amount of time it takes to set up the system. But once it is set up, it is an amazing tool.

Reasons for choosing FAMCare

There were alternative softwares we were considering at the time, however, FAMCare's customization is what made it stand out in relation to the rest.

It was the only option we had at the time.

Cons

It took years to configure and customize the system with foster care managers learning how to code SQL to help support and move the project along.

Pros

FAMCare is efficient in data collection, reporting, and case management. The software has enabled our agency to go from paper files and documentation to electronic. We can track user activity, documentation, and caseloads. Also, FAMCare has provided us with tools to report on data that is being collected by staff. Our staff no longer report data in a spreadsheet and then another staff member compile it to a master spreadsheet. In a fast pace world, our old methods were not efficient or reliable. Also, simple forms can be created without having any web coding knowledge through their Pathways module. This helped our agency create agency specific forms and collect data electronically. FAMCare has helped us grow as an agency, provide better case management to our clients, and monitor our staff for productivity and efficiency.

Cons

FAMCare is solely web-based which means that an internet connection is required. While most of the clients we serve have cell service in their area, we have a few that have little to no service. In those cases, we do have to resort to paper documents. Currently, I am not aware of any offline components that can upload to FAMCare when internet connectivity is reestablished.

Travis - thank you for your feedback. It is very much appreciated. Regarding offline components - we have created a few forms for clients that have helped in this regard. In most cases they were tied to case notes and basic demographic. As a custom project - we can tailor forms to work in an offline setting which would sync to FAMCare once an Internet connection was established.

It's an electronic system that maintains data long term.

Pros

It is user friendly and has scanning capabilities. It has the ability to create reports as well that are user friendly.

Cons

The software does completly meet the current needs of the program as the program has changed since it's implementation. However, we cannot afford to upgrade it, nor am I sure that this program would be the most effective at this point.
