### "(BC3) A friendly project management tool"

July 24, 2019

4.0

Basecamp is a great way to collaborate with clients and teams still. The nature of direct 1-1 communications means it will never compete with Slack in terms of moment to moment integration (We dont use campfires or pings or whatever they are called), especially since we do a lot of work in JIRA and therefore our project and process are already disconnected (I could see Campfire being more useful if we were more actively using Basecamp). For now, it serves as a place to post assets for review and archival to the client, as well as a place to post longer messages, like meeting notes in a way that is organized and contextual.

Pros

The reintroduction of client permissions made BC3 instantly more usable as it reintroduced the collaborative nature that wa a hallmark of this product (The "clientside" approach was garbage) Basecamp offers a clean and approachable structure to project management. It is not intended for software development really, but can be used to run a project or even as a company hub (we use it for both, though in full honesty we have mostly transitioned to slack).

Cons

As above, the initial clientside approach was really underwhelming. It worked for specific low-touch clients, but if you were actively collaborating, it was offputting and cumbersome. It can be sort of cumbersome to navigate files, and I wish there were data integrations to link Google Shared drives

Reason for choosing Basecamp

We didnt want to deal with self hosting and we had used the older version of Basecamp. It was also priced competatively

### "All in one project management platform"

February 5, 2021

4.0

It is very easy to have conversations with other teammates I can carry out conversation in separate inbox. Once we started using Basecamp we would be able to manage our to-do list, this list represents the task, which needed to be completed and mark those which have been completed, thus for making our workflow more organized it keeps vital role.

Pros

Bascamp is the amazing collaborative tool that let us work together. It is one of the most powerful project management solutions. It has great features and functions for working efficiently. I remain equipped with the idea how much, a particular team member has paid his efforts. Not only it has helped us to work remotely, but, still being present on one plate form it is the most suitable tool for project management.

Cons

It is integrated with limited software which restricts to carry out multidimensional projects. It’s pricing is also very high, it restrict its use for small organizations. Moreover it is working fine and giving great performance.

### "Good Project Management Tool for Every Business"

September 7, 2022

4.0

Our organization has been using this since 2014 (if im not mistaken) up to present. We really love Basecamp because we can all categorize all our projects.

Pros

Easy to use, able to store many files, easy to navigate, able to see all projects in one glance because you can create different Basecamp list and organize it per project.

Cons

Ping feature is so slow. Limited boost characters.

### "Basecamp - All in one project management that doesn't dissapoint"

October 12, 2020

4.0

Basecamp has been a huge sigh of relief for me. It's extremely convenient and I find myself focusing on my work more, as compared to checking Slack/ Google Drive/ Asana everytime I need to see some project updates and files. Basecamp is not perfect, and it can use some work on some fronts but it is pretty good as it is now too.

Pros

To start off, I really love that I have a platform that has all the tools I need for my day-to-day communication. Basecamp is the complete project management tool with a good enough UI and okay-ish feature set. I love that sharing files and ideas is a cinch and also that everyone can be updated at once. I also love the project tracker and how easy it makes to see everything that's going on.

Cons

Basecamp is undoubtedly good at everything it does. But, just being good doesn't cut it, at least not in some critical functionalities you use daily. After using basecamp for a week or so, I missed using Slack for its slack bots and the UX. Some other features can also be improved upon such as the bland UI (for my taste) and also would've loved to see a flexible price point for really small teams. (The free version has restrictions that makes getting the paid version worth it, but for small teams it can be a bit costly, if you are located in countries whose currencies pale in comparison with the US Dollar)

### "Basecamp has all the essential features and more for project management"

September 10, 2021

4.0

Though it can be a bit overwhelming, Basecamp includes nearly everything one would expect from a project management tool. Its focus seems to be mostly on communications between workers on a project and that's a good thing!

Pros

Basecamp includes a rich set of features (maybe a bit over the top and overwhelming). There are multiple ways to communicate with users including real-time communication. I like the way you can set up different levels of access so (for example) certain communications can be shared with clients and managers who do not need full access or for whom some information should not be made available. And I also like the 'automatic check in' feature so users can communicate their status in their own time; it means we have to organize fewer meetings. My users have commented on how flexible and easy it is to manage their notifications. Document sharing is greatly facilitated and it's always easy to find project documents. Basecamp includes a good supply of integrations with 3rd party tools.

Cons

It was a bit frustrating that I can't see multiple task priorities and project views. I couldn't see how to prioritize my tasks across assorted lists and projects. Though I kind of appreciated the rich functionality, it does make the platform rather expensive.

### "Adequate, better than nothing"

April 3, 2020

3.0

Adequate, at best. Better than nothing. More work than it should be, after 5 years of use. I'm not sure this is the best product for as many users and as many projects as we have... maybe ok for a handful of users/customers and 5-10 projects at a time.

Pros

It's better than an excel spreadsheet. I consider it to be a 'starter' PMS. Sort of like a starter home, or first car (if you're parents aren't rich).

Cons

None of our users can use it properly no matter how many times I instruct them, send them cheat sheets, walk them through the process, justify my requirements for how to use it properly. There's too many places for users to put things, too many ways to make it confusing. Nobody seems to be able to find a thread to continue a conversation, and they just keep starting new messages for everything. If you have a lot of files to add to a project, it gets really confusing on which one is the right one - even if you explain that the newest one is top right. If there's too many messages or files - the oldest ones get buried and nobody can figure out how to find them. The archiving system is a nightmare - impossible to find and pull up projects, you can't search by project, you can only search by a file name, and you can't sort your search - it's just a long list, and you'd better hope you were super consistent in naming your files if you ever want to find something again. There's no analytics

Reason for choosing Basecamp

Our boss required us to choose it because it was the cheapest option. We tested out several others at a higher price point that better suited our needs, but I don't remember what they were.

### "Basecamp is the easiest and most effective project management tool for teams"

January 23, 2016

5.0

We've been avid Basecamp users for quite sometime and have been very lucky to be users of Basecamp Classic, Basecamp, Basecamp 2 and now Basecamp 3. It's only grown to become an even more amazing tool over the years, and we're even more excited about the new features. Basecamp 3, Basecamps' newest version, combines today's trending technology with ease of use and maximum efficiency. Inside Basecamp you can store files, organized by folders and labels, create documents, link Google Documents and more. You can also do internal chat which is awesome for chatting strictly about a project and referencing notes. It's also super easy to add team members to get everyone going on the same page. It stores members from other projects and your team so you can also add them easily as well. The new automatic checkins is also helpful especially when you have a ton of projects. It sends reminders out to all your team member to check in with whatever you have assigned them. Basecamp is also great because it's mobile, so you can always keep your projects going no matter where you are.

Pros

Super easy to use Add as many people as you want without extra cost (team members) Add links to Google Docs Exceptional project management for the price To Do Lists are laid out in a great format Completely mobile Push Notifications Google Calendar Sync

Cons

I was a bigger fan of the pricing in Basecamp 2 in terms of clients. It's a huge jump in price for those who were on a first level plan to those who want to use the client feature in Basecamp 3. If you were on any of Basecamp's higher plans though however, this had little effect. They offer the sign in with Google, but no Google Sync. I like that you can add Google Docs but a true integration with Google Drive would be better to quickly add files Also, I don't like that you can't pick the day and time you want for automatic checkins. If you have several running, they're all running at the same time.

### "Use Basecamp if you want EASY Project Management"

October 24, 2018

5.0

My time with Basecamp is a 10/10. It's made managing projects and keeping our team organized on what we need to accomplish next a breeze. We still use task managers and other to-do lists for our own personal workflows, but we all have a shared to-do list within Basecamp for longer projects such as web design or development. With Basecamp, we all have the iphone iOS app installed so we can check updates and comment back to notifications. Would highly recommend Basecamp to anyone in the market for team collaboration on projects regardless of industry. It's lightweight, non-bulky and a pleasure to work with.

Pros

Basecamp has been around for a long time, and what they excel at is making it easy to get started with Project Management. First, you create "boards" and within those boards are tasks/communication of what needs to get done. It's really as simple as that and thats why I love Basecamp. There's still a ton of features within the simple procedure of setting up a board, like advanced notifications, inviting team members, deadlines and calendar view, and commenting. I use an iPhone so I love the iOS app. They keep it pretty up to date and I've never had an issue with the app.

Cons

I'd love to see a future feature request within Basecamp that can give external users (outside) of the organization the ability to create tasks within a board. Right now, there's some restrictions for external users, but I hope Basecamp enables more permissions for external users.

### "Basecamp - Chat internally Review "

October 3, 2022

5.0

Overall the experience is great. It is a comprehensive tool for team collaboration and project management. The program positions itself as an all-inclusive toolbox for remote work. enabling users to log in from any location at any time using either a web browser or apps that are available for many different mobile devices. Basecamp is a fantastic deal overall. It has more built-in functions than the majority of project management software.

Pros

The user interface is really simple to understand. You can navigate between projects on the home page, which displays all of them. Every team member is accessible for communication. If necessary, you can additionally tag individuals. Any unneeded notification can be unsubscribed by you. When you don't want to be distracted, the focus mode feature is also beneficial. Also, the simplicity with which you can start a project, add tasks, and allocate them. The process is simple and takes little time to have the team up and running. It essentially creates very transparent to-do lists for your team, improving accountability to complete tasks.

Cons

You cannot upload several files or images to a project from your phone at once you necessarily have to go 1 by 1. The option to entirely delete the chat is the one that is least likely to be present; rather than just archiving the conversation, this feature should allow users to completely delete the thread in order to maintain their privacy.

### "A very easy to use and efficient project and team management program"

December 7, 2018

4.0

The experience with Basecamp was great because it was the last piece we needed to fully accommodate remote workers. Project management and team management of remote workers has never been easier because it allowed us to effectively organize and assign people per project, track time, communicate with people directly in the project they're working on, and mark off completed tasks so everyone can see project progress. All in one place too, can't beat that.

Pros

The features are great, and Basecamp certainly makes it easier to communicate and pivot between multiple projects and teams simultaneously. I also think the chat and communication functions are great because I can easily shift away from groups to email someone privately. Overall I think it categorizes and organizes projects in such an easy to read interface that it quickly became a go-to program for us.

Cons

One of the drawbacks to using Basecamp is getting buy-in for it from clients. For people who are not familiar with the program, it can look like The Matrix. Whether it's navigating the dashboard or the email system, clients always seemed to have an issue with Basecamp in some way or another. The issue as I can see it is that it's a program for people who are technically savvy, at least to see the value in it.

### "Project Management And You"

November 5, 2020

5.0

Overall, my experience with basecamp has been very positive. I started using this software early last year to track my daily tasks and deadlines, and to keep appraised of things going on in the office. The collaboration on deadline checklists helped me get into the groove of the office as I was the newest person at the time, and the ease of use made onboarding with this software incredibly quick and I was able to get into the swing of things in no time at all.

Pros

The ease of making checklists in this software makes it very easy for me and my coworkers - and our employer - to keep track of everything we need to get done days or weeks in advance. I've used the checklist feature to keep on top of important projects and deadlines, and have used the comment feature on checklists to let other collaborators on the checklist know that I'll be late or ahead of schedule on certain items.

Cons

There have been a few occasions where checklists have disappeared from my page in basecamp, which has made keeping on top of some projects difficult. While it hasn't happened often enough to be a major or ongoing concern, it has been annoying. I've most often been able to find them by using my internet search history to track down the checklist in question, but that's a step I'd usually not have to take. (But, thankfully, it is not an ongoing problem that impedes the daily functionality of basecamp.)

### "Basecamp - Sharing the easy way"

May 10, 2021

4.0

As noted early on the service provides ease of access, sharing, and control. Doesn’t require a person to learn anything besides login to the portal and obtain content. Service has been very reliable and haven’t ever seen a service outage which is impressive given how many people use the portal.

Pros

Our company likes the ability to share content with the entire team no matter where anyone is in the world. Simple secure login from any computer and poof instant content for all to read & share. Since it’s web based no worries about installing another piece of bloatware or process hog slowing down a computer system.

Cons

The service needs to offer an option to select a buffer size to smooth out audio / video content when bandwidth is limited. File size sharing is too low and needs to be increased to at least 3GB.

### "Great for teams -- not so much for close clients"

August 8, 2017

5.0

Better team organization, one place to track all project communications.

Pros

The ability to have everything in a snapshot on the main page. I can see to-dos, messages, files, and more in one place. People can be tagged and notified that they have something important to review.

Cons

The client experience in Basecamp 3.0 is too restrictive, and doesn't allow our clients enough functionality outside of "review" and "approve." Many of our clients shy away from getting into Basecamp at all because of the PIN process; when they're on multiple jobs with us, and each job has its own PIN, it gets confusing and frustrating. They want to be able to communicate clearly with the team and load files and source docs into our tool, but the only way they can currently do so is by logging in (see PIN process above) or emailing them -- and then they run into file size restrictions. The only two things that are missing from the overall team experience, in my opinion, are a bandwidth/hours tracker and gantt chart views to export for sending project schedules. There is so much already around the project in Basecamp; why not make it easier on the project managers to track bandwidth?

### "Awesome project management application"

5.0

Loved using Basecamp for previous company. Used for several years. Greatly improved document sharing with field employees and communications among the entire company. Tried to bring on for current company but upper management wanted geo fences with our timeclock application.

Pros

You can't beat the features for the price is you are a small to medium business. Great for document sharing, simple schedule/calendars, tracking project progress, etc.

Cons

Integrations for some apps can be a bit clunky and can get pricey (that's not on Basecamp), depends on the capabilities you need.

### "Better project management means better returns. Basecamp is the best for project management."

December 7, 2022

5.0

Basecamp is a quality and powerful project management tool which uses an ease of usability design approach to help make the complex project management work look much easier. It has very effective project management features like time tracking and communication features to keep teammates connected during projects.

Pros

I very much love the level and quality of support that is offered in Basecamp all the way from the beginning to ensure that you get the best experience using Basecamp and achieve the most from it. It also has a flexible architecture which makes it compatible with other products like Timely for time tracking during projects. Everything in Basecamp is well organized, the interface is straightforward and this gives one easy time navigating through it functions.

Cons

Genuinely, there is no setback in Basecamp that i can complain about. All features are very productive.

### "Great in managing task and project."

February 5, 2021

4.0

Managing our daily task is very effective with Basecamp, it let me to share and add new user to the task that I has created to collaborate, communicate and completing the task together. Even if I am outside the office, I still can access and continue working from the mobile application that the provide.

Pros

Basecamp is a must for us to managing and sending notification to my team members for our daily task management. I can add comment or editing alert for the task that i has change, so all other members can track any changes to the task. The price package is very affordable for our small team but still has tool and feature to help us managing our task.

Cons

The email notification is quite annoying, it keeps sending email to us to continue using the software on daily basis. It will keep sending the email until we have to manually set the notification off. Not all the task that we create need a constant reminder, we will turn on the notification alert ourselves if we think we need it.

### "Basecamp Review"

September 7, 2022

5.0

Overall my experience with Basecamp has been very positive- from a departmental perspective, it functions wonderfully as a means of communication between team members, task groups, and teams as a whole. Cross-departmental collaboration has been made easier with the creation of To-dos and individual status updates to know when someone is out of office for example. Overall it's a great product, in need of only a small amount of changes to make prioritizing tasks more user-friendly.

Pros

Instant messaging and team communication features like message boards and group chats, are the best features of basecamp by far. Making ToDos is a great way to manage your own tasks, or to assign tasks to others- even for collaboration on the same task.

Cons

I think the company has become too large to use Basecamp effectively as a whole. With over 1000 employees, there were many message boards, group chats and notifications that would drown out the team-specific tasks, messages and notifications. Often things would get overlooked by people due to the large number of daily notifications. There are settings to adjust notifications, but many employees (especially new hires) were not sure what notifications were relevant to them or not.

### "Making project management easier"

March 10, 2021

4.0

Overall, Basecamp is a solid product that I use almost daily to manage projects. I haven't had any major issues with the software but would like to be able to easily reference tips and tricks to improve my workflow.

Pros

The ability to collaborate with other people on my team on task management is critical to making sure the work is done on time. Basecamp also allows me to communicate with clients and vendors on project specifics tasks and goals which means less time writing emails and more time getting things accomplished.

Cons

The user interface is a little too bare-bones, and things aren't always intuitive. I would like to see more tips on how to set projects up and manage them properly.

### "The best production management software for our company."

December 17, 2019

5.0

We use Basecamp for every project that goes through our company, and we have some team members that use it constantly and some that barely want to touch it ... when you rely on Basecamp for your company to run smoothly, you need to make sure you have 100% buy in from the team and everybody is using the software with some form of ground rules in place to help keep everything organized. Once that is dialed in, basecamp really can cover every needs we run across and it has grown with us from a 3 person company up to a 28 person company and should be able to sustain for the foreseeable future.

Pros

The pros of basecamp are the company wide team access and usage, easy access to current project related data, storage for project photos and renders. We have an archive of our projects for the past 6 years as well, so we can always go back in and find any info we may have had in the past but are missing now.

Cons

Basecamp is just difficult enough that our team members who are a little less tech savvy can feel overwhelmed with navigating the software. We tend to have 150 -250 open, active projects at any given time, so they struggle to know which project relates to them and get discouraged by the navigation. Since there are so many ways to use the software, to-dos, conversations, calendars, file browsing, etc. it can become disjointed and unorganized quickly. You really need to stay on top of keeping everything in a manner that cuts down confusion.

Reason for choosing Basecamp

We could never find a software as robust or as simplistic as we were looking for ... but once we found basecamp, we knew almost immediately it would be our software package of choice.
