August 24, 2018 5.0 Pros Working at an institution of higher education, there were many parties involved in trying to get anything done. Waiting to find a time when everyone was available to schedule a meeting was incredibly frustrating. Basecamp allowed for smooth communication between stakeholders in order to complete a plethora of projects in a timely and efficient manner. I very much love the ability to download and edit documents quickly and clearly along with the ability to approve final products including the funding! Pros Basecamp's features, layout, notification management, and software philosophy goes a long to helping you keep first things first — your project. It doesn't offer so many options that you end up spending more time managing your project than doing your project. Cons Basecamp 3, the latest version, needs more and better integrations with other software. Basecamp 2 was more robust in this respect. Also, it needs to enable users to integrate with Zapier in a way that allows use of templates. Right now, that's not an option. My friends have used it more completely and I've observed their workflows which are impressive. Pros I've used a lot of different project management tools and the majority of them do too much. I generally feel like using them fully is so much work. Basecamp breaks that mold nicely by offering only the essential features and doing them really well. Getting acquainted with Basecamp and using it productively takes minutes. Plus I really like the company and their values. They're inspiring to all other bootstrapped startups. Cons If your project management needs are really complex or bespoke, you might be better off with something else. " July 10, 2018 5.0 My favorite part of Basecamp is the easy-to-read design of timelines and tasks. Rather than seeing a boring to-do list of bullet points, the software allows you to easily track your campaign from start to finish. I also like how the projects have separate folders for scheduling, documents, to-do's and messaging; making it easy to keep all project history organized in one place. Pros The best part of Basecamp the timeline of projects displayed on the front page that makes it easy to see project activity, chats and deadlines all in one place. Rather than have a list of to-do's and deadlines, the timeline feature allows you to see who is doing what in real time, making you feel like you're not just checking off tasks but really working as a team to get things accomplished. The second feature I like best about Basecamp is the ability to assign team members certain tasks so that they are not overloaded with everyone else's deadlines but solely their tasks. Cons The chatting feature was a bit confusing. When I responded only to my manager, I wasn't 100% confident that it was a private message. One time I meant to only respond to my manager but responded to everyone on the project thread. A team comprised of younger users who can learn new software quickly will benefit greatly from Basecamp. Teams comprised of older users and people who struggle to learn new software, however, will most likely not use the software at all opting for more traditional methods of communication and collaboration (email, Fax Ect.) Pros Great for team collaboration. Love the ability to assign a task to my team. Sharing documents is very helpful however my team still tends to use google docs and google drive for most projects. I also enjoy the instant message functions. Cons Brand Specific labeling for actions and functions (Campfires, Pings, Ect.). This is really only a problem when trying to teach older users how to work inside basecamp. The Names of functions absolutely slows down the learning for these users and in many cases prevents them from ever really learning how to use the software. I have used it with my clients to even achieve an ISO certification using it as the main process documentation tool. Pros Basecamp comes from the guys that wrote Rework and Remote. Whenever I need to help organizations reconstruct their mindset, or whenever I have more than a couple of big projects, I use Basecamp. Cons Costs. It cost money monthly. But it's worthy. The reason I put this as a Con is because when you are building something sometimes you don't have the monthly fee. Reason for choosing Basecamp Most simple, easy to use and professional tool. Pros As a freelance writer, I use many different content management platforms depending on my client preferences. However, Basecamp is one of my favorites. The functionality, such as Campfire chats, Pings, and task scheduling are great. It's intuitive. Cons Although it's intuitive, there's a lot to learn. Considering their pricing, I feel they are providing more than one could have asked for. No doubt there are a few issues that they need to resolve but in all, it's a good collaboration system Pros Their interface is the best thing about the Basecamp. Just after using it for a few minutes, you will feel addicted to this. The best part is that one can collaborate with your team members as well as people outside your organization. I like how they made it super handy to add/remove files under projects. Cons Linking calendar events to a specific project is not possible which is very bad. On the other hand, the notification system does not seem to work all the time. As a web-based platform, you are able to access from anywhere. Cons The scheduling feature wasn't quite as robust as I would have needed for advertising project management related timelines. February 1, 2017 5.0 I use Basecamp for managing communications and project management in my day to day agency work. I've been using the platform for a little over 2 years in total and it's been one of the best-supported, most highly functional tools I've encountered. Basecamp doesn't do everything in the world. Rather, it has an exceptionally strong set of core features: task management, shared workspaces, etc. that solve the problems faced by modern teams bogged down with email communication. Coupled with an array of 3rd party vendors who extend the base systems functionality, Basecamp offers "enterprise" level functionality at an affordable price. Pros Basecamp offers really solid core features and serious bugs are rare. Cons There are a few features, like the ability to create task dependencies that would be really nice for managing larger, more complex projects. You can find these features in 3rd party tools that connect with Basecamp (TeamGantt, etc.), so this is not usually a major concern. Review Source SC Srikanth C. The email triggers for any tasks assigned work perfectly and we had a wonderful experience using the tool. Cons It's very expensive and doesn't support a lot of features as seen in Clickup. March 8, 2018 5.0 The largest benefit is the ability to keep track of every small detail and task associated with a larger project (or in our case, planning a large event). I love the ability to add a large number of people to the task team so we can all track our tasks in one place! Pros I like the ability to add a lot of varied individuals to the project. I like that you can be on multiple different projects within Basecamp. I like that there's a way for me to easily see all the tasks assigned to me (or someone else). It's a great way to keep things cataloged for future similar projects as well - just copy tasks from one project into the next and you have a great start! Cons Sometimes there are so many capabilities that the user interface can be a bit daunting. I don't use the campfire or message board capabilities much, if at all. Review Source Stephen F. Pros I absolutely love the way this aggregates user input related to tasks. It makes it very easy to assign, communicate, and manage important tasks amongst cross-functional teams. Cons The only thing I'm not the biggest fan of is the overall user interface in regards to navigation. It's different from other tools I've used like teamwork and intervals.
