### "It was good when there was no competitors."

April 2, 2021

4.0

As I said, it is just very outdated both in terms of design on implementation. Basecamp 3 swears to replace slack, confluence, jira etc and I really sorry to say this - it is just a promises. Not even close. The last drop to us was "chats" which was broken at the release. We switched.

Pros

There are some bright ideas: you can keep your own thought as personal docs, there are subprojects, some basic automation like end-of -week question "what did you achieve last week". It has basic text formatting and actually not that bad for its price. It does has stickers, message boards, it allows to send notifications to a selected groups or persons. At some point major update v3 has been released. But...

Cons

Nearly everything you can find in basecamp is very rusty, dusty and old-fashined. Text formatting isn't quite handy, sometimes you struggle to arrange blocks. Follow ups and comments are there but you couldn't leave a comment to a part of the text. But real pain was search. Imagine you are 100% sure there was something about conference and you even remember the phrase from it, say "our next presentation is scheduled on March 4 in LA" , you attempt yo search by the sentence and find... nothing.

Reason for choosing Basecamp

There was nothing else in that price niche at the moment we decided to use it.

### "The best application I have used so far"

August 15, 2022

Simple and easy-to-use all-in-one project management tool for small teams.

Pros

It helps us in connecting with our team members and sharing important information, ideas and knowledge. Check-ins that keep us reminded when to do and what to do.

Cons

Everything is fantastic. I would love to see the feature of adding team members in between pings so that they can join the same conversation.

### "Basecamp helps us streamline project/account management and increase our efficiency"

November 19, 2020

4.0

Overall, we're very happy here at my startup marketing agency, HypeLife Brands, with Basecamp...we've been using it for a VERY long time and haven't looked back or considered anything else really. I think the 37Signals team has done a great job with the product from the beginning.

Pros

The ability to manage a team, often in multiple locales, especially in the days of COVID now, much easier than any other alternative out there.

Cons

Sometimes a conversation for tasks becomes non-linear though Basecamp is setup in a linear fashion, so it can be a bit tricky to manage that without the ability to thread comments, but this is more of an advanced user need I think :-)

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Basecamp

I felt Basecamp was easier and cleaner for me as a project and account manager for our select clients, working on accounts with a sort of "agile within waterfall" hybrid approach to how we work...so Basecamp just fit much better, and I'm a big fan of 37signals' core philosophy too in building businesses, so there was really no competition in the end.

We need a more robust, and hosted option instead of having to maintain and customize a tool to our needs on a local version. Basecamp fit the bill at the time and we haven't had to make a single customization once adopting its workflow.

### "A no brainer"

November 30, 2023

5.0

I very much enjoyed Basecamp, and their simple featureset and pricing structure is a breath of fresh air in a world of tiered pricing and convoluted workflows.

Pros

As a consultancy, Basecamp made it easy to keep all our projects in one place while only inviting clients to view their own tickets, keeping our developers sane.

Cons

Basecamps simplicity is both it's finest feature and it's only shortcoming. Some companies have more convoluted workflows that require more advanced features.

### "Great choice for team discussion, file sharing and basic task tracking"

August 31, 2020

5.0

Our overall experience has been great. We were using a custom-built tool for team communication, but ultimately decided that Basecamp just has more features and will save us a lot of cash in the long run versus building the tool ourselves. It's nice that there is a flat charge for the service, instead of charging by the user like some other services do. This saves us a considerable amount of money.

Pros

It was very easy to setup and get going. We just invited our team members in with each of their email addresses and it handled the rest. Our entire team found it easy to create their account or do a social login. We use it primarily as a message board and chat system on our team. I really like how the entire message board is searchable, which is useful for finding things later on. "Remember when we talked about XYZ", and you can just search for XYZ and it shows up quickly. The calendar and file sharing has also come in handy for simple things, though it's not as robust as using something like Google Calendar or Google Drive. Basecamp also has a useful API that we've used to pull some data out of their system and display it in our other systems. The mobile app works great. It's probably one of the best designed apps I've ever used, to be honest. It makes it easy to talk with the team while on-the-go.

Cons

I was hoping for some kind of wiki system to be included with Basecamp. You can kinda make up your own wiki using specific categories on the message board and file sharing, but it's not quite the same. A wiki would be really helpful for internal documentation.

Alternatives considered

[Asana](https://www.capterra.com/p/184581/Asana-PM/)

Reason for choosing Basecamp

Basecamp seemed better suited for the team communication that we were going for. The Message Board has worked perfectly for us. However, if our needs were more focused on task management, then I think Asana would have been a better tool. Basecamp's task management is essentially a team-based to-do list that is fine but lacking some of the advanced features of its competitors.

### "Basecamp for final year university students who doing final year projects."

December 3, 2021

5.0

Overall one of the best software which I was use and its functionality , scope , workability are outstanding. I actually like the main concept of the software and It was give massive support to our project for getting successes in the worst situations like these pandemic periods. I was suggest this software to my other colleagues on the university whose also got trouble with doing their final year projects.

Pros

When me and my final year project group members starting the project, the first problem which we were faced is how we get collaborate with each others on this task. Because university was closed due to pandemic situation and we were limited to our homes. So we do some research on the way to overcome with this problem and we met the Basecamp. First I like the main idea of the software because it will be one of the most useful software in this pandemic situation. Lot of projects were stopped due to this pandemic situation and at that time Basecamp provide a good platform to collaborate the people. And another favourite feature on the software is the chat option. It is very useful to each of our members to get interact with each others and shear their ideas in the occasion. The options like progress tracking ,achievement reach, To do listing are very use full for us to assigned each members for their roles and guide our project to in proper way in the correct time. The client portal of the software is another favourite item of mine because it was very helpful to our lecturers to interact with us and observe our project for supervising us to get successful on our project.

Cons

When get starting with the software we had to get use with it first and it was taken some time because this was a whole new platform to us. So I think it will be better if it has some introduction and guiding tips to get familiars with it. When interacting with our lectures using client portal we felt the important of that short learning curve of the soft wear because they would not like to spend their valuable time to waste such a thing. Some of other software we use couldn't get sync with the basecamp so we wish to have that option on the soft wear. Other than that basecamp is one of the best software in functional wise and also a concept wise.

### "A Seamless Collaboration Experience With Basecamp"

June 23, 2023

4.0

My overall experience with Basecamp had its ups and downs. On one hand, the platform offered a user-friendly interface and comprehensive project management tools that streamlined our collaboration efforts. The real-time messaging and file sharing capabilities were convenient for team communication. However, I encountered occasional technical glitches and experienced a learning curve when navigating some of the advanced features. The lack of robust customization options and the higher pricing compared to alternatives were also minor drawbacks. Despite the challenges, Basecamp proved to be a reliable tool for enhancing teamwork and project organization.

Pros

Basecamp is a game-changer for collaboration, boosting productivity and communication with its intuitive interface and powerful features. It's simplicity and organized layout make project navigation effortless. The comprehensive project management tools, including task assignment and milestone tracking, ensure efficient workflow management. Real-time messaging and integrated file sharing enhance seamless communication. Basecamp's emphasis on transparency and mobile app accessibility further enhance the collaborative experience. Highly recommended for streamlined teamwork.

Cons

While Basecamp offers a range of impressive features, there were a few areas that left something to be desired. One drawback was the limited customization options. I found myself wishing for more flexibility in tailoring the platform to our specific project needs. Additionally, the absence of time-tracking capabilities was a missed opportunity for tracking individual and team productivity. I also experienced occasional performance lags, particularly when the platform was accessed by multiple users simultaneously. Lastly, the pricing structure felt a bit on the higher side compared to some competitors. Despite these shortcomings, Basecamp remains a solid collaboration tool, but it could benefit from addressing these areas of improvement to further enhance the user experience.

Alternatives considered

[monday.com](https://www.capterra.com/p/147657/monday-com/)

Reason for choosing Basecamp

After carefully evaluating various alternatives, I ultimately chose Basecamp as my go-to collaboration tool for several compelling reasons. Firstly, it's user-friendly interface and intuitive design stood out, making it easy for my team to adopt and navigate. Secondly, the comprehensive project management features provided everything we needed to stay organized and efficient. The real-time messaging and integrated file-sharing capabilities were also superior to other options we considered. Furthermore, Basecamp's emphasis on transparency and accountability aligned perfectly with our team's values. Lastly, it's reliable performance and consistent updates gave me confidence that Basecamp would meet our long-term collaboration needs.

### "Best use for Management"

February 3, 2024

5.0

My Overall Experience using basecamp is good. It is my daily activity to update my basecamp tasks so that everybody in the team would know about the update on the task. Manager would check the update and will check the basecamp and if he/she find the task is updated with all the requirement they close the task which is best satifaction moment like "this is complete to do" something like this

Pros

Simplicity to use the project. It is very easy to use and from day one you can learn how to use this. It provided every morning notification mail on all the updates of the basecamp task. Its due date feature help to check the date prior which we have to complete the task

Cons

To be honest i did not find any cons about basecamp its simple to use and provide notifications according. Only one thing i like less is i am not able to resize the picture which i paste on my basecamp task i think basecamp should work on that

### "Everything under one roof? Easy project and work management with Basecamp"

July 24, 2021

5.0

Basecamp is a great tool for managing projects and staying focused. We actually managed to spend less time on "meetings" thanks to Basecamp. Using other tools often felt like chaos, even if it was a little organized, but with Basecamp it felt like a whole different world. A big plus is that you can keep everything in one place and you can easily find what you're looking for.

Pros

I like how Basecamp allows you to stay organized from the beginning to the end of your project. You can divide your work into different projects. Within each project you stay organized and can see everything you need to see. It's a modern tool that's perfect for how people work remotely now. I like the way I can quickly see everything that's on my plate (all my tasks, deadlines, updates,...) so that I can quickly get to the things that matter the most. Collaboration and communication are two key factors for success. With Basecamp this all happens automatically.

Cons

I don't have anything that I dislike. This tool is different than other tools, but in a good way. Once you've used this for a while, you'll notice it makes you more productive.

### "Great software with lots of functionality"

October 10, 2021

5.0

Overall, the software does solve an immediate needs/problem that we have which is being able to store all communication, files, and feedback related to a specific creative design project in a single place

Pros

What I love most about Basecamp is that the software allows you to be collaborative with your creative design team while managing the project from end to end so as to meet your deadlines and key milestones. I like that all communication can be stored in one place, feedback can be easily provided on creative design elements, and file sharing is simplified because of the cloud-based software.

Cons

The thing I like least is that this platform is really focused on larger, enterprise work we are as for small business owners we may not need all of the assets and capabilities that are offered with some of the packages.

### "Unique,simple and a better business tool."

October 21, 2022

5.0

Our team has gained 100% satisfaction because of base camp. Our overall experience is super, easy management of projects and more yields from our organization.

Pros

I just love the fact that our team can share content from anywhere they are it doesn't matter the distance nor the time. The app has a mobile app that is very useful for doing business on the go.The app's interface is very intuitive and also no necessary training on how to use it as the user becomes more familiar with the features as he/she uses them every day.Offers high security and privacy making sure that the data is kept safe and private.

Cons

At times the performance is very slow especially in areas that have low internet coverage.Base camp doesn't have other features like customization which enables users to choose things like colours.

### "Great software for tracking tasks and your team. They are rolling out more features too I read!"

October 27, 2021

5.0

I use Basecamp every workday. Using the program isn't onerous. I spend my time trying to do my work, not trying to figure out what my assignment is!

Pros

Ease of use. To-dos and scheduled tasks works great. Clear UI but lots of more hidden features that a power user can really benefit from. It works so nicely that my wife and I are using a free student account to keep track of our house reno projects.

Cons

The security wasn't stringent enough for my IT admin to greenlight it, so he tried to get us to move to MS Teams (which is a very weak contender for task management).

### "Not the easiest"

April 6, 2021

3.0

It has become a useful tool in these remote work times because it allows collaborators to feel connected and involved. It helps us all to be on track of the project's progress. I use Basecamp as a broad message/communications board to exchange ideas, files, and schedule meetings.

Pros

If you need an easy place to work with colleagues, Basecamp is a great option. For basic tasks, the message board and document exchange features are useful. Overall, the solution is simple to deploy and configure. Although the user interface isn't the most user-friendly I've seen, most people can access and use the platform after only a few minutes of exploring it.

Cons

Basecamp is difficult to use until you get past the basics. It quickly becomes overwhelming as you add more users and assign tasks to them. Also the constant updates it provides could be fantastic, however it just adds changes and new things to learn; resulting in an even more confusing environment and hard for the people to use.

### "Basecamp is irreplaceable! Trust me, we actually tried too Lol!"

February 11, 2021

5.0

We use base camp for each department. Every team has their own project. Within each project is every teams important training documents documents, files, and weekly tasks. We use the ping feature for group messages. It has made file sharing very easy. Many of our documents have to be referenced by several different at various times throughout the year. Basecamp makes it simple to keep up with these documents.

Pros

Basecamp has been an amazing product for us for years now! It allows us to manage projects in events by keeping to do lists, files, and instructions all in one place. The team I manage uses it to assign tasks, communicate between team members and keep up with conversations so we can reference them later, and , keep track of files and receipts. Every document and system that our team members need access to can be attained in one place. There is a little bit of a learning curve at first but it makes sense very quickly the more you use it.

Cons

There is a little bit of a learning curve at first but it makes sense very quickly the more you use it. There are really only two things that I dislike about Basecamp but I’ve learned to live with them for now. 1.). There is a great variety of ways to send communication. You can send a ping (which is kind of like an instant message), You can make a comment on the general message board of each project, you can comment on the calendar item, you can comment on the task item itself, and you can comment on individual files you add. At first it seems real handy but once you start adding multiple projects it can sometimes be difficult to go back and figure out where a conversation happened. Thankfully the search icon works rather well in these instances but not always. The way we have gotten around this is to make sure our Team is clearly instructed on what features we will use to communicate various kinds of information. 2.) there is a feature called haystack. This functions as your personal inbox letting you know what due dates are approaching, what tasks were recently assigned, and what conversations have happened recently that you need to be part of. However, once you click on an item it disappears immediately from your inbox. So when you see something important, you need to respond or add a personal to do immediately. I wish it didn’t delete until you told it to delete like a normal email inbox. This way you could come back to the message and deal with it at a better time.

We originally used base camp for years. About four years ago we tried office 365. We found that the same small problems we had with Basecamp, we also had with Microsoft. However they were much more confusing. Unlike base camp, Microsoft separates its features and to several different apps. For files they have one drive. For communication they have teams. And for everything else they have SharePoint which kind of combined them all together. What we found was this was more confusing for our team as a whole especially for the project managers themselves. With Basecamp you select the project you want to work on and everything you need for that project is there. The mobile app pretty much has most of the same features as the desktop version which is a plus. We kept teams for about a year and then went back to base camp. We still have an office 365 account but use it mostly for Word and Excel documents and online questionnaires

### "Great for Project Management"

February 14, 2021

Love basecamp. Easiest software to use to project manage. We use this every single day. Don't foresee that changing anytime soon!

Pros

Such an easy way to communicate with teammates on a project, track our progress, share files, and project manage. We also use the basecamp calendar to track all of our marketing emails, social media ads/posts, print marketing, and events. It allows for easy "Traffic control" of marketing efforts. I also love that when you want to communicate on a project/task, you may have for example 10 teammates on the project but you can pick for your email notification of the new message/post to only go to specific individuals among those 10 included so it still tracks the conversation but only notifies those needed without overwhelming others with tons of email notifications.

Cons

Honestly nothing. This software has so much to offer and they have amazing notifications and tutorials that are 5min or less to learn more to better project manage and take advantage of everything it has to offer. If anything (and to be honest - perhaps they have it and i just dont realize), it would be great to have a quick way to review marketing pieces and comment on needed updates/changes made to a document vs. as almost like a "chat"... we separately use inmotion to review marketing pieces while also using basecamp to project manage.

### "The Best "Pick Up and Get Going" Task Manager"

December 9, 2018

4.0

Basecamp is where we keep all of our assignments and initiatives, and we've become diligent about not letting any lists or to-dos creep outside the system. This relies heavily on managing the project list carefully and making sure everything has its place. There are not guide-rails to keep you from placing a task in the "wrong" place - fortunately you can move tasks all around if someone puts something in an incorrect place. It's important that you define what Projects exist and create a framework for where assignments should go. A frequent complaint we hear around the office is "I don't know where to put this" so it's important that you outline your project structure and communicate it clearly. If you can nominate a gate-keeper to watch over the system organization, Basecamp can be a very effective way to manage all assignments across an organization and allow people to simply see what's due, when, with ease.

Pros

Basecamp requires very little setup and there are very few barriers to overcome to get in and start making projects and tasks. It can very very scalable in terms of users and project count, and it's approach to To-do Lists and Tasks makes project organization fairly straight-forward. At it's core, making tasks is as easy as choosing a place to put them, naming them, and assigning them. With simple reports, users can view their tasks across all projects and start tackling them. If you want to take things a little bit deeper, you can assign mutiple people to tasks, set due dates, and loop other people into the tasks for conversations.

Cons

Basecamp still has some key missing features that create workflow issues every now and then. You can create recurring events, but not recurring to-dos. So, for example, if you want to create a "Close Accounting Books" to-do and assign it to a user to be finished each month by the 15th, there is not currently support for that. There's also no built-in gannt views, although they continue to innovate project management with new simpler ideas such as the "Hill Chart" which i'm a fan of. A lot of the lack of complex features comes from their desire to carefully curate features to keep the application from ballooning into a beast that's unwieldy and hard to learn.

I have found many benefits when using and implementing this tool in our team: - Speed in my management and organization of projects - Efficiency in the coordination of processes - Security to use it in my mobile device - Real order in our work - Improvement of our routine in internal processes - Improvement in the performance of our equipment - Unification of all the professionals of the company in the same project - For a small company like ours, a great cost - quality ratio - Interaction with our customers - Simple to use even when someone is traveling They have implemented a very useful tool, which is the Daily Progress, very useful to review the events that have taken place in your projects over time Another benefit obtained thanks to the BaseCamp tool is that all our consultants have been able to use it, even people not very adept at the technology, they can use it very efficiently and simply BaseCamp We benefit from the TimeLine of the tool, because we can explain the progress of a project to our clients. The balance of failures and successes are other benefits The support of the platform, in the centralization of processes and communications of our digital projects, has been another of the great benefits obtained since we implemented BaseCamp In our scenario, the creation and dissemination of documents, conversations by messages and the generation of agreements become complicated actions and require an efficient organization system. In this way we can always endorse the agreements, requests ,deliveries It has facilitated the monitoring of the work and the counting of hours of work of each professional, something very important for the internal management of the projects. In our experience, it has worked so well that it is already. So, Thanks fos that BaseCamp

Pros

I really like the ease of use that this tool has. Practically no more experience or tutorials are needed to learn how to use it. The internal chat is a great advantage, very nice. It is also an excellent option that allows teamwork and solve management problems quickly

Cons

The main disadvantage is that the client must understand the use very well, but generates prizes almost automatically. Especially for the client respect the threads of conversation. Another point against is that the platform only works online, so you can not advance in jobs when there is no connection

### "Great idea for team management!"

Allows my team to stay organized, communicate effectively, and accomplish tasks all from one platform!

Pros

Basecamp is classified as a project management platform, but I see it as more than that. It's a digital space that enables your team to all be on the same page and up-to-date. Here are some things I love about that platform: - It has a very simple design and feel. It's extremely "boiled down" and there's no reason to worry about less techy folks getting lost. It's easy to learn to use and navigate the platform. - It organizes everything in one place, so it's easy to find key documents, hold individuals accountable, find help, etc. There's no email chains, certain things saved in the Cloud, while other things are saved on someone's computer - it's all there. - When you enter a project folder, I like that there are really three categories for communication. Things that need to be done are filed in the "to do" thread, on-going communication/questions occur through the "message" thread, and just general questions or thoughts or concerns can be posed through the "campfire" thread. This is simple idea, but is really quite brilliant. It allows your team to rank or categorize the message they're about to send (Is this urgent? Is this a general question? Is this a task that needs we need to get done?). This really provides structure that effective teams need. - Another cool feature is that in that you have access to all of the important, shared files in the project folder. I would compare that to "team drives" on Drive, if you're familiar.

Cons

Basecamp is not too technical, it feels human-friendly! But because of this, you do occasionally find yourself looking for something more, a feature that would really be helpful. For example, the to do lists could be a little more robust (graphics, attachments, etc.). Another idea would be to add a bit of customization. I understand the desire to maintain simplicity, but just the ability to add your brand would be a nice feature or even change the color designs. Not crucial, but would be nice.

### "Basecamp is a good title; not too much, just what you need to get by, and no major platform bugs!"

Overall, usability of the platform is a breeze; simple and setup logically. There was a period where there were a lot of changes and upgrades, which made navigation a little harder - but overall, it's great.

Pros

I really like that you can build templates, integrate with other platforms, and create/share projects with just the right people/teams.

Cons

I really wish there was a way to nest a base inside another base; or task lists within task lists? More project/task management specific request I suppose!
