Pros: The email communicating system.

Cons: The mismatch of options on the front end, individual profile end, and admin end of the site.

The inability to set standard views for daily use (defaults for individual members)

The complicated way the profile editor is displayed.

The inability to have custom drop downs made (similar to the State drop-down) for large comprehensive lists - these need to be on both the front end - application and member profile editor as well as the admin member manager area.

Overall: There are some features of the software that are excellent. I really like the email communication interface. Our biggest concern is that there is very little ability to customize to your association needs. Customization of the site is not an option and work around options are complicated, confusing & time consuming for the board. Communication between the front and admin end can be mismatched. If you are ok with small things like application field names not matching profile field names and back end names, but being similar it's fine. If you are ok with having drop down menus on your application, but not on your individual profile editors, which results in somewhat of a mismatch of information, you will be fine. For our Association, it's all small things that you will encounter with the software, scrolling down pages of data, the overall display of profile editors, etc... that will make things difficult for the board and for membership. It's very important to understand that these items can't be changed even with a work order and in our eyes this is a major limitation of Capterra. Overall, the system functions, but it isn't the easiest software to manage and it will take a MAJOR commitment on the part of the associations board to make this system work as best as it can for your association. If your Association is small and doesn't need much in the way of tracking and display, CME, spreadsheet export, and more, Capterra will be a good solution. I will say compared to a fully customized website development it is more economical for all involved, despite the commitment it requires.

Recommendations to other buyers: This list is long. I only have previous experience to compare, but some functions of the system are really good, but others are difficult to manage. The overall view of the admin area is cumbersome and wordy and difficult to read. The inability to set defaults for admins, ex: I want to always view at least 50 or 100 members, viewing 5 members at a time doesn't help me and resetting it every-time is annoying. The same goes for dates. Our dates for member search start at1950, but our Association wasn't even established until 1985, that means every-time we need to search we have to change the dates. It's all just a bunch of extra steps and mismatching that make using the system difficult.

Pros: Ease of learning how to do stuff for someone who isn't a technology nerd. Sometimes that means my current intern has to look at the video and then show me, but once the lightbulb goes on, I can do 'most anything.

Cons: Some of their training videos have left me wondering what I just watched. That's when I reach out to a digital native / millennial to help me "get it." Or, I submit a job ticket.

Overall: Having been with StarChapter for a couple years now, I really like the customer service experience. I've learned to check out the online videos (sometimes beyond my understanding), but I have learned that -- if things aren't clear -- submitting a Job Ticket gets a quick response. And unlike some other software companies I've used (but won't name), the people who talk to me or email back and forth with me until I understand NEVER make me feel like I'm the idiot who doesn't understand functionality. That's so refreshing! If you're a small one-person office like I am, with sometimes-help from college interns, I highly recommend StarChapter. They offer reasonable pricing with no long-term contract. They let you take your time in adopting the different feature capabilities. And once you're up and running, they're an awesome value for the monthly spend!

Recommendations to other buyers: It may not have all the bells and whistles that some companies demand. I've had Board members (whose companies likely pay the big bucks for fancier functionality and I.T. people to work with it) that think our software should do things it cannot. But for our purposes, it's been a HUGE success and a GREAT value.

Overall: As a non-profit organization we don't have a lot of money to spend. StarChapter knows how organizations (like ours) operate and caters to our needs. They do a great job of creating a straightforward user interface with with modest functionality. The CMS is pretty easy to understand and navigate on the back-end.

My issues are that the editing process can be confusing. If you have custom templates built they may be completely inaccessible as .php files maintained on the corporate level. This means that it can be a challenge to change the look and feel of many pages without placing a service request. And then you need a back-and-forth exchange before the desired result is understood and realized. That said, the StarChapter team are very responsive and try to be very accommodating in their responses to questions and requests. They also check on open tickets several times before asking if the ticket can be closed. So even if YOU forget that you wanted information and that you needed to follow-up regarding a task, they will remind you by asking if you still need help.

StarChapter has a lot to offer but there may be limited flexibility and if, like us, you have a volunteer staff with limited resources and annual turnover of the controls... it can be really hard for someone else to take over the site management. There's a modest learning curve and so it might be a challenging transition. It would be ideal for organizations with stable staff, consistent staff engagement, and a development budget.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure you train staff and limit the site management to one or two key people who will be around a few years.

Pros: I like Star Chapter because it provides a comprehensive association management system that is effective, efficient, and affordable.

Cons: There are a few added features I have asked for and hope will be implemented in the near future, such as scheduling of email distributions based on specific dates and event invitations that include "Yes" and "No" buttons with tracking of member responses so they don't receive invitation reminders if they have already indicated they cannot attend an event.

Overall: I highly recommend Star Chapter to every association leader looking for an effective, efficient and affordable comprehensive association management system. Star Chapter does it all for each of my chapters; membership management, event management, communications, online payments and reporting. If you're looking for one solution that does it all, look no further!

Recommendations to other buyers: System administration is easy to learn. Training and tech support is excellent. The Star Chapter team is very responsive and helpful, quick to answer questions and helpful in offering solutions.

Pros: Complete, Easy to use, we can have more then one person work on the back end We dont'' need a "software guy" to make it work.

Cons: The initial learning curve is something you have to deal with but its much easier than learning Joomla or HTML.

Overall: After a disastrous experience with another solution we turned to Star Chapter. We received terrific help getting started. With the help of our starchapter project lead, Erin, we were up wiht an operating with a professional website in 2 WEEKS. We started the first week of December 2015 and were up Before Christmas. And it all worked!

We update the site regularly. When we run into something we don't understand the StarChapter support is there to help. We have always gotten a solution within hours of asking. We had one time when the site was down. Within minutes of sending the email to support we were up.

I think the StarChapter solution and the support team are great. Anyone with a professional society or similar membership group should look at this solution seriously.

Recommendations to other buyers: For new users find a few site designs you like so your implementation leader has something to reference. Also use it for a while as is. We haven't found anything we couldn't do. It may be a different process then with another solution but as long as it functions properly do you really care that its not like the other site? Also take the time to do small group training with your fellow board members. We did it based upon function using our live site.

Overall: Star has provided our San Fernando Valley APICS chapter with time saving tools that are critical with Board members who are volunteers. The ease of use and the ability to quickly update the website as changes are encountered make our website current. Many administrative tasks on members, seminar and educational offerings such as keeping track of event registrations are now maintained with ease and significantly less time than before Star Chapter days. Membership monitoring, specially now that corporate apics.org has setup a partnership with Star Chapter to provide daily updates, has take a huge burden on chapter management. Keeping all this chapter information available for any authorized board member year after year as officers may change continues to be one of the best resource provided by Star Chapter.

Recommendations to other buyers: take the time to view all tutorial videos; take advantage of world class support - which is prompt and very helpful.

Comments: I have used Star Chapter since 2012 for multiple associations I manage. Of all the association management systems currently available, I found Star Chapter to be the most comprehensive and cost effective online software on the market.

Pros: Star Chapter is user friendly for both members and administrators. Customer support is great and highly responsive to questions or problems. Training and resources for administrators and Board members are excellent. One of my groups consists of a senior chapter, a young professionals chapter and a non-profit 501(c)3 education foundation. They wanted one website for all three organizations with capability to manage each of them. The Star Chapter tech team was wonderful in working with our volunteer Board and communications committee to develop a website "skin" that would function on Star Chapter's system.

Cons: I have some Board members that find it cumbersome to RSVP for a meeting when responding to an email invitation. They would prefer a one click method to indicate if they will attend or not, rather than the multiple steps Star Chapter's system requires to login as a member and register to attend a Board or committee meeting that doesn't require a payment. I have asked Star Chapter to consider changing the system to allow for a "yes" or "no" response when members are responding to a system generated event invitation. We had this with Cvent and it worked extremely well.

Overall: I've used StarChapter for two years to manage a professional association. While it works fine for many of our needs like announcements and static pages, there are some issues with the functionality. For example, there are too many clicks required to purchase items like sponsorships, causing confusion for vendors. There is only one newsletter design and it is lacking. There is difficulty when a member registers along with a guest for an event, but they pay separately. They should also provide a template update (at a reasonable cost) to reflect newer style web design - if they do this already, they haven't offered it to existing clients. On the positive side, the cost is about right for what you get. And the customer service is quick to respond. Unfortunately I've had too many support tickets that resulted in an answer like, "There is nothing we can do to fix this now; we'll put it on our list for our developers." Rarely have fixes I've suggested been made.

Comments: I've worked with several CM software programs as well as web design software. While this ultimately does what you need it to do, it takes more steps than necessary. Simple things like having a pull down list of pages on your site to link to are missing meaning you have to know the URL of a page to link it in another page or an email. There isn't even easy access to your photos. You have to go through at least 10 steps just to edit a photo when there should just be a photo editor just like there is a page editor. Other things such as erasing membership information from expired members (you don't know if you are reaching out to someone that was a member last year or ten years ago) and the need to upload information several times depending on where you are using it (on the website vs in an email vs on an event page) make it not very user friendly. Even with registration for events, the page that shows the registrations isn't the same page where you download the registration from. You have to go to a different registration page for that. Too many steps to do the simplest things. It also doesn't have options for sorting or filtering by any column. If someone has a balance, you can't see what that balance was for. You can't sort who opened an email in alphabetical order or by time. You can't look at a member profile and see what events they attended or if the last time they opened an email. You also can't have members update their information at the time they renew their membership. You have to try to get them to go in after the fact to make updates.

However, with all of this, my biggest pet peeve comes when creating questions for event registration and when selecting multiple choice, space is only given for one option. You always have to click - add another choice. Why? Obviously there should automatically be two choices if it's multiple choice - that's what makes it MULTIPLE choice. It's these types of little annoyances that you find in several places that make you wonder if the people that designed the software ever use it or used any other CM software before being hired to design Star Chapter.

Comments: We have used StarChapter for our organization (ASHRAE) since 2012 and for our organization (AEE) for 4 months. ASHRAE has 1900 members and AEE has 250 members. To summarize, this is a fantastic Website for any any size organization. When you are a new customer you have a bunch of templates to pick from and Customer Support (CS) gives you personal attention to get your site set-up. There is also a package to fit just about anyone's budget. Setting up meetings and sending out mass emails of any type is a snap.

Pros: 1.Great Great Customer Support. Inquires are replied to promptly and accurately. 2.Most of the features you use regularly are intuitive. 3.The software has so many features that anything is possible to do. 4.Members can pay by credit card in advance for meetings. 5.Once you are set-up and using it it is very easy to maintain. 6.You can assign different tasks to your board (like someone for announcements or emails or treasury, etc.). 7.Easy to post all event pictures. 8.CS sets your site up to your specific requests. 9.There are tutorials and live webinars on everything with a Help Center to search.

Cons: 1.If you REALLY REALLY want to get into the nitty-gritty of webmastering it is not intuitive but if you are adventurous you can learn. CS will also direct you. 2.Their newsletter feature sucks. We get around that by producing our newsletter with adobe/word and posting it on our site.

Pros: Ease of use, ability to get a nicely designed website, database membership list upload and event management.

Cons: Limited email design capacity and metrics, limited ability to make changes to live events to tickets- if you have a change you have to recreate the ticket- very frusturating, the newsletter and emails are very hard to update and send. If it were like mailchimp or constant contact, that would be better.

Overall: Database information, reports are limited but its better than nothing, which is what we had before. Ability to let my committees and board find out info without me doing or sending it.

Overall: We have been with StarChapter for many years and I couldn't be more pleased. The ease of the website and database makes my work life so much easier. The website was extremely easy to implement. Our membership loves the ease of the website too. I have needed to use the StarChapter Customer Service on occasion (especially for things I don't use often) and they are very prompt and attentive. They follow up afterwards too. StarChapter cares about you as much on day one as they do five or six years down the road. They are constantly striving for excellence. I would highly recommend StarChapter!

Comments: Our chapter is in a non-English-speaking country, so full support for extended characters is essential. Some forms don't support extended characters, which is obviously a problem.

Our chapter is also in a country with strict data privacy legislation, and in 2018 this legislation will tighten further. At the moment, the way passwords are managed by admins of the StarChapter software will not pass an audit, so we either need that improved or we have to consider alternatives to StarChapter.

Some form titles cannot be changed, e.g. the subject field name for email responses for online forms on our website. This results in very poorly worded email responses, which looks very unprofessional. For example, an email subject will look this: "Form submission for form Kontakt lokalavdelingen i Oslo". Three problems with this: 1. "Form submissions for form" has absolutely no value to the end user. 2. The text cannot be removed or edited. 3. The mandatory text is in English, so the subject field becomes a mix of English and Norwegian.

StarChapter seems to be suffering from the typical problem of choosing a development strategy that was great at the time, but which is no longer the latest and greatest, and it is to complex and costly short term to transition to newer and better back-end architecture.

When we transitioned to StarChapter it was a very benefical change for us, and we are happy to have a setup which is possible to use even if you don't have development skills. The support feature and response time is also very good. However, the above issues are becoming more and more urgent, and quick response time to tell us that something is "by design" or that "we are considering for future features" will not be sufficient for us in the long run.

Pros: The campaign functionalities cover email, survey, tickets etc. One stop shopping.

Cons: Hard to understand how to set up tickets, coupons and vouchers.

Not sure how to refund the ticket.

Overall: It would be nice if you have some instruction on your screen. My team is not familiar with Star Chapter and it is challenging to support our events. Is it possible to schedule a webinar training with real person who we can ask questions?

Recommendations to other buyers: Instead of respond to the inquiry via the support section on the site, please contact the customer by phone and have a conversation to understand the issue. It will be good if we can get support after 4pm since we are all volunteers and may not always be able to call before 4pm.

Pros: We adopted Star Chapter after using Abila and did not miss a beat. The people are good to work with.

We are a two person office and the other person, not me, does the work on the Website and I do the Database.

Cons: Some of the functionality is clunky. Since I focus on the database, it works ok for me. We have company memberships which causes some problems.

Overall: Star Chapter provides a good alternative for our size operation (about 3/4 million). I think you should check out all options before deciding on SC, but it works for us.

It's not super user friendly. I think customer service is friendly but support is lacking.

Pros: Some great options. I really don't know what else to say. In the beginning it seemed to start to come together but then our rep was gone and I just felt we missed out on days and time that should have been made up later. Not being able to talk to a person to walk you through is not the greatest support system. For them, they use it everyday to make changes and if changes were not needed ever then it would be fine but there is several areas a person with no technical experience could not achieve. Again, I am not downing any customer support person as I feel they are super friendly and get back to you but just not the support I expected after the initial ended.

Cons: Not user friendly. I feel like it was more than likely not really compliant with what we needed but I came on after the initial decision and realizing some options just did not work well for us. We have only kept this as we spent the initial money and I don't have time to go another direction.

Overall: Good question. I had never developed a website with an outside source before let alone able to actually program some things. I would say it's been an overall learning experience.

Overall: After developing our own website on a very small budget, we found it difficult to recruit new members. Bookkeeping and membership rosters were difficult to maintain using a series of spreadsheets and other pieces of software cobblde together. We were so impressed with the demo by StarChapter, the implementation process, and customer service. Our website looks amazing, our reporting is so much easier, and we really feel like we get a fantastic product for a great price.

Pros: Easy to use, lots of documentation to help you figure out how to make changes,

Cons: Guests that have registered for our events are listed as Attended automatically even before the event has taken place. it should just say "registered" or "paid" and then maybe during the event there should be an interface to check people in live to say if they attended or were a no-show. more ways to track event participation statistics and demographics.

Overall: My chapter used to use at least three services to manage our email announcements, program registration, and website administration. Now we can do all of that in one place with our StarChapter site. The site is very easy to manage, even for those with minimum website administration experience. When there is something we can't figure out ourselves, we can look up how to solve our problem using the extensive tutorials and guides or contact the friendly and responsive help team.

There are some limitations, such as to what extent you can customize your site, but these are very minor and in general StarChapter is the best website service we have used since creating our website.

Overall: StarChapter provides a quality platform, lots of training and documentation and their customer service is excellent! Every time I submit a ticket I hear back promptly and the issue is typically resolved the first time.

Pros: The time it saves automating tasks

Cons: Some things are buried so deep in the site I forget where they are.

Pros: after learning curve easy to use

Overall: beinga volunteer and still not a computer expert, SC affords me the opportunity to manage emails and meeting notices to our chapter. We are a small chapter under 100 members so value for the expense is reviewed and as you can see we have chosen to renew each year. customer service is great and turn around is timely.

Pros: Simple, any one of the chapter officials can use it. FUll featured. We can handle almost all the chapters business through starchapter. The only thing we don't do on star chapter is document storage. Everything else is done through starchapter, planning & managing events, newsletters, email notifications, member activity tracking, - its great.

Cons: The only negative is that the new version was rolled out before the documentation was ready. But the system is so intuitive that it wasn't an issue.

Overall: Great - full featured and complete. The best part is the support. I've never seen support so complete and responsive - they are the best.

StarChapter has done wonders for us, even if it's not 100% perfect

Pros: It integrates almost all of our needs into one convenient platform. The self-help tools and videos are very good, enabling us to get up to speed very quickly Service tickets are answered promptly The capability to develop nonmember mailing lists and target specific groups, especially meeting attendees, has been fantastic!

Cons: Some of the website features don't meet our expectations. For instance, we have some articles posted that our members would like to print, but attempts to print them yield very poorly formatted documents. Requests for help are answered quickly, but we do often encounter situations where requests must be referred to the developer team. We used to use Eventbrite, and we loved that it only sent us one bill per event after the event was over. If someone cancelled a week ahead of time, we'd simply delete the registration without having to mess with financials. With StarChapter and its payment partner, each ticket transaction is separate, and refunds or changes are troublesome.

Recommendations to other buyers: Visit customer sites and compare features. When we were comparing options, no other vendor provided the breadth of services we needed for such a low cost. All others who met our needs were much more expensive.

Pros: The system is designed to work with professional societies and member groups like ours. Its easy to use

Overall: Our experience with Star Chapter has been overwhelmingly positive. The team worked with us to get the site up over a year ago. Anytime we have an issue or do not understand how to do something they respond within hours.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's helpful to know HTML if you want to make very elaborate newsletters or meeting announcements. If you like the system out of the box, and we do, you don't have to do anything special,

Pros: It provides instant spreadsheets for various areas, I like that I can edit member information with ease and produce reports; I like that I can automate renewal notices, etc. Since I am a new user I may have more pros later on once I have had more time to use the software.

Cons: Finding and changing items can sometimes be a challenge. Drop and drag of variables doesn't work correctly for me but now that I know an alternate way it is fine. Some items are in multiple places such as announcements, uploads, etc. and I wish for each area there were multiple choices right in that area to work from instead of going back and forth. Also, have issues with templates and the fact that if you schedule an e-mail you are limited to your choice of e-mail templates vs. sending an e-mail now. There are quirky things about the software but with more use getting used to it.

Overall: I am pleased with the software product. I do wish some features were updated but have made comments and StarChapter is receptive and will consider for their next upgrade!

Recommendations to other buyers: I think from support side it is very user friendly because you are using it 8 hours per day from the customer side, I find it not as user friendly but am navigating and taking notes so when I do have to go back days after to repeat a process it will take me a minimal amount of time and I won't be going all over looking and remembering how I did that last week!

Pros: That everything is available all in one place (meeting/event announcements and registrations, ability to pull analytic reports on the site, produce newsletters, and maintain the website).

Cons: There aren't nearly enough templates to choose from for the various communications we would like to send out. Some of the formatting is frustrating and doesn't carry through to the emailed version.

Overall: Kat and several of the customer service team were extremely helpful in the re-design of our chapter's website this summer. They made the transition very easy and we were really impressed with how quickly the turnaround time was. It was hard for us to keep up with them! The training was very helpful, too. We were/are very pleased with the new site and how everything turned out. There are a few more features I wish were available to us, such as more email templates, ability to populate event emails, etc., but for the most part, we are able to do everything right from StarChapter.

Recommendations to other buyers: Offer more template options and possibly other ways to share communications with our members.

Comments: Star Chapter provides a good way to setup, manage, and track meetings & attendee registrations. But the editing and formatting features are cumbersome. I recently contacted their Customer Support team for several questions regarding registration waitlists, photo gallery sorting, etc. Each time, the customer service team was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Even if the software could not always support my needs, they submitted a follow up request to the development team for future consideration.

Pros: Meeting setup, tracking, and ease to list/display on website.

Cons: Due to email verification feature recently added, and email formatting features, we have opted to use MailChimp to manage most email notifications.

Best product to consider for your Chapter!

Pros: Reports, Ease of marking guests attended without using paper, Credit Cards

Cons: It's a little older and could use some updating, however, if the shoe fits use it!

Overall: We use StarChapter for our Chapter and it is the best thing that you can do. It will save your programs, treasurer & membership person so much time that it will allow them to focus on the important stuff.

There is work to set it up, however, once completed there is a lot of automation which saves you time!

Recommendations to other buyers: Watch the tutorials! It's amazing what it does and you would never know from just looking at it.

Pros: What I like most about this software is that it allows us to keep all of our information regarding the chapter in one location. Previously, we had another organization manage registration and membership while we managed chapter finances in another area. Being able to access chapter information at anytime has been critical to managing our 500 members.

Cons: My least favorite part of the software has to do with adding information to the site. Finding the areas to create the newsletter or post an announcement is not very intuitive to me.

Comments: StarChapter is perfect for MASSP. I am continually amazed that they can meet the needs of my organization with 750 members at such a low price. I am a one man shop--I have no support staff, so I need all the help I can get with the various tasks necessary to run my organization--membership tracking, communications, meeting registration, etc. The membership portal is perfect for me. Communication with members is easy. I would be LOST without the Meeting portal. How do they do all of this at such a reasonable cost? I don't know, but it is not ALL automation. Any help question I submit gets a response within 24 hours. I speak about StarChapter all the time to colleagues.

Pros: Great content management system. Great Price. Great help desk

Cons: Hard to think of any. Since it is template driven, customization is limited, but given the price, I can't imagine that could be possible without a greater cost.

Pros: Very easy to use: set-up meetings and tickets for events/programs

Cons: Would like wait list to automatically go through the list.

Overall: Our chapter was having some problems with the registration of an important event and in speaking with rep was extremely helpful and we were able to get the registration operating correctly. While on the phone, Rep was able to help us with a couple other tweaks to make our website more efficient.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure that you get as many people in your organization knowledgeable about how to use the software.

Pros: The functions and our ability for multiple users (treasurer, membership, newsletter, etc) to use the data and StarChapter tools.

Cons: May need to improve a function in StarChapter to allow ballots with write-ins. There is functionality for ballots just not how we do things.

Overall: I like the fact that we can manage our organization with less effort. As a volunteer organization it is difficult sometimes to get participation for specific Chapter functions. StarChapter has simplified that so we can do more with less. The data or information is centrally located and accessible between users (treasurer, membership, newsletter, etc.) As we get more familiar with StarChapter we have been using more and more of its functions. If we need any support they respond very quickly with assistance. We have been StarChapter user since 2013. We have been staunch supporters of StarChapter to others in our National organization. Recently our National organization is migrating to StarChapter management platform.

Recommendations to other buyers: I wish we heard about this product when it first came out in 2008.

Pros: Fairly easy for the members to use. Like the reporting. Like the look. I like everything but the three things I mention below.

Cons: You need to figure a way that one member company can have more than one person registered. And we would be able to see how many member companies we have, without the extra people.

You need to be able to refund someone on a registration or ticket

The email blast engine is hard to work with and not very creative.

Overall: My overall experience was fine, support is great.

Pros: Very easy to use and make changes to. Very intuitive. They offer free training sessions via webex. Communications module gives a very formal and professional appearance to emails, meeting announcements, and newsletters. From the Meeting Manager you can see how many are registered and how many have paid. Lots of features and functionality.

Cons: We haven't come across anything that was negative.

Overall: Support tickets were responded to very quickly. Friendly and helpful. They sent detailed instructions along with making the updates for me. The initial team worked with us to get everything we wanted in place before going live.

Recommendations to other buyers: In the future itI would be nice to have a Fundraising Module that would let you track donations, gift baskets, expenses, etc.

Pros: The membership database works very well, the layout of the website looks great.

Cons: Many basic aspects of the softward can not be changed by the admin user (or StarChapter staff), and so far many functions have been very difficult to get used to. Also, the email marketing feature is NOT user friendly, and continues to create problems for me. I miss using Constant Contact...but have invested too much in StarChapter at this point to consider going back to the old way we did things...

Overall: Friendly staff who are usually quick to respond to an inquiry (even if it's not the answer I need) - i just wish the program was more user-friendly on the back end of things, and that the support staff would listen more closely when I have a problem...many of their answers revolve around options that I have already tried, and even though I explain this to them, they don't seem to understand that their "fix" doesn't work for me.

Pros: Ease of managing membership with corporate imports. A built-in Forum and Blog. Dues collection with automatic reminders. Lots of pre-configured templates. Awesome event registration and management including badge printing, configurable fee collection. Tons of configurable administrator options, or have StarChapter do it all.

Cons: Lots and lots to learn if you want to be the Administrator. However, that's actually one of the Pro's as well!

Overall: We had to move off a website managed by a company that was going out of business in 2 months. Talk about stress! Turns out StarChapter has awesome features that are going to make our lives so much easier managing an all volunteer organization. The integration was expertly handled, and we were made to feel like family. The support team is great. The follow up is fast. Definitely take a look if you're thinking about making a switch.

Pros: Once you learn how to manage the software, it really has made communicating with our chapter easy and professional looking. Also, having the calendars and event managers are superb. They make it easier to communicate with our members but they also make it easier for the members to keep up with timelines themselves.

Cons: More difficult to navigate than proposed to us in the beginning. Also much more difficult to adjust the content of the website than proposed. I am sure this is intuitive and easier to manage than other platforms if you do this for a living, but for a novice it can be a bit daunting and complicated with several steps in different areas of the back-end to reach the desired effect on the front end.

Overall: The software isn't as intuitive and easy to use as they say for people that don't work in this kind of software for a living. That being said, the customer service is incredible and very responsive (and quickly). There have only been a few minor things that the software has been unable to do. We have a quality website and the meeting and communication features are exactly what we needed. All in all, we are very satisfied with StarChapter. The quality of product and support that we receive for the cost cannot be beat. We looked :)

Pros: The interaction between emails going out and recording them on each individual, the tickets sales is fantastic!

Pros: My favorite thing about the software is how easy it is to get things done. For our users, it is not time consuming for them to do what they need.

Cons: I would like to be able to flip the pictures inside Star Chapter. As it is now I have to flip them on my screen before uploading. It would be nice to be able to do this inside the program.

Cons: Initial set up of online payments via credit card could have been smoother.

Overall: Since using StarChapter, it's been much easier to manage events (including payments) and communicate with our members. The cost is in line with other vendors, but you get more value with StarChapter. Online training is super.

Recommendations to other buyers: For other IABC Chapters, there's currently no direct feed from MMA, so membership management can be a challenge if you don't keep up.

Cons: Learning curve was steeper than expected for some of my team members. Some of them aren't as techy, so even searching for help presented challenges for them.

Overall: I was given a short training day and then started working on Star Chapter on my own and I found it difficult to get around and still have not found how to do a number of functions on it. I'm sure that it is there but even the help guide is not as helpful. I know this is user problems and not product problems.

Recommendations to other buyers: Maybe not having to re-login every time you go from one area to another

Pros: Set-up process was seamless! Completed on time. Easy to use. Love the training videos and conferences that are continuously offered for better understanding.

Cons: I really dislike that I can NOT control the time the emails go out to our members and guest. This is causing me to use another vendor for this function as our members do not like email blast that go out at 5 in the morning.

Pros: The system allows us to easily set up events, run reports and add and edit web content. StarChapter's support system is the best I've ever experienced; I can't overemphasize the positive experience myself and many of my fellow site administrators have had interacting with the various support people, all of whom have been committed to resolving issues or helping us understand how to accomplish different tasks.

Cons: Though the support people are excellent, and the support ticket system works very well, some of the help files are hard to decipher or don't include certain answers, which leads to sometimes needing to involve a support person directly.

Overall: Gives us much easier to understand, hands-on control over the functions we need to run for our organization's operations.

The software menus are not easy to follow or being able to "intuitively" use.

Comments: The software is not easy to use or follow while trying to learn 'how to' begin inserting, managing, etc. the information needed. Meaning, as you look at the main headers within 'admin' window several of the choices for updating members info, board positions, etc. is pretty challenging. You need more videos that walk you through specific issues verses generic as well.

Your knowledge base articles do not seem to be updated in real time so that the instructions can guide you as you select a header and drill down to the next level it advises you.

This includes setting up main contact information, membership records, website design and payment processing. During project kickoff, we also schedule with you and your team a complementary board training led by our Support Team. Attending the training has proven time and time again to improve the experience of managing the organization using StarChapter. We regularly add new articles and video tutorials to the Knowledgebase with easy, step-by-step instructions of how to navigate through the different features.
