has saved our organization a lot of money by reducing the subscriptions we had into one program. Setting up the website was easy to do with the SC support team, there were a few add-ons that we didn't anticipate that cost a little bit more, but we still saved hundreds by switching to StarChapter. Our organization is super excited to enhance our online presence with our members and sponsors through StarChapter!

Pros

combines a lot of separate programs we previously used into one easy to access program. It manages email forwarders, displays sponsors logos on our website, and automatically updates based off of when the sponsor has paid through. StarChapter also allows us to setup email templates that are automatically sent to new or lapsed members which eliminates the need for our membership chair to constantly have to remember to check our rosters and compare them month to month.

Cons

The administration side of the website turned out to be a little more challenging than we originally expected. Some of the functions and website design aren't as intuitive as we would have liked and has required additional training for the less tech savvy members on our board.

It cost less for us to remove the four other subscriptions and condense into one. It also eliminated the need for four different logins, which can be hard to collect during board transitions.

### "Great Solution for Small Organization"

They have been great to work with. Support tickets are generally resolved in 24 hours. Help information is available online to solve many questions for ourselves.

Pros

This software provided the critical software for our small professional organization at a reasonable price. It allows us to have a website and collects dues as well as capture registrations for our annual conference. We love the credit card payment solution and reporting integrated within the system.

Cons

The one drawback for us is the awkward way memberships are by person instead of by company. There are extra steps to complete to keep all people from the same company listed as paid members.

OK experience. Not great overall. I would not subscribe again with the price increase. There are more intuitive and better features on other competing systems.

Pros

It has good integration for all association functions. The website integration is easy once you understand where each page can be edited.

Cons

It is not very intuitive and takes time to get used to. Printing out invoices in batches is not possible.

It's a good product. I like it overall. I wished there was a way to have the system generate a certificate of attendance with editable information.

Pros

The website looks professional and give me control of what is put on the site. I like the event management most of all.

Cons

That I have to update some items on the site instead of having do it. Some items is more technical than I care to work on. When you click the attended button, it would be great to automatic renew membership.

Overall is a great product. I know there are aspects that I have yet to learn and I would like that opportunity. Perhaps StarChapter could offer an intermediate training for associations that have had the system for a few years.

Pros

The convenience of having everything for the association in one place. Membership, communications and registrations for meeting all connected. also responds to questions in a very prompt manner.

Cons

Some of the spreadsheets that the system generates need to have the capability to change the columns.

### "Some Good ... Some Not So Good"

It does some things well but costs way too much for the service and does not continue developing and fixing issues.

Pros

One stop integration of my web, email, registration and payment needs. I like the ability to send emails to non registered members.

Cons

The Cost and the fact that it keeps going up but not adding new features or fixing known issues. Several features or actions require intricate knowledge of how the site works and are buried under several clicks. The amounts deposited to my bank do not match what star chapter reports to me. The amounts often round up a penny in Star Chapter's favor and it makes me go back and edit the journal entries. This is STUPID!!!! I don't care about the penny .... I do care about your system making me do the extra work. Transaction reports do not give me all the info I need for journal entries. I can see buyer, amounts and what event they are for but can not see the details of what was purchased. For that I have to go to another page and view the order itself. Much extra effort that could very easily simply be in the one report.

My overall experience is good. It's taken me years to learn the site, but now I understand it pretty well.

Pros

Star Chapter is a practical association management tool, and it makes it easy to send communications to your database, handle meeting registrations, and produce reports about meetings. It also is a good tool for managing your member database. The staff is great about responding within 24 hours to inquiries. The StarPay system, while I initially was not happy to be forced to join, has actually worked well and is efficient.

Cons

It's a bit clunky, and updates would really, particularly when trying to update content on your association's website. The site doesn't easily account for comp memberships (comped meeting registrants get a confirmation that they've paid $X for a meeting, when they haven't. Their help desk can only be contacted electronically; they used to accept phone calls, but no longer do. They've continued to raise the annual fee, and it seems a bit excessive now.

Pros

As far as software systems go, is easy to learn and yields a great product/website/management system. Our association's website looks clean and professional. We can do all functions of association management in one place--membership management, event planning and registration, reports, newsletters, invoicing, etc. It's really simple and saves us time, energy, and money.

Cons

doesn't have immediate call in support available, so although the help techs are extremely knowledgable and can always guide and "fix" an issue, it does take a few days to schedule a call/screen share. So if there is a pressing question or issue you need addressed, know it isn't going to be resolved that day. Note: There is an extensive knowledge base where many answers can be found, but if you're not the most tech savvy, sometimes it's easier to talk to someone.

I've worked with Star Chapter since 2010. They have been responsive, easy to work with and great to problem solve with. I like the ease of use for my staff as well as our volunteers that want to dig in on the admin side. We have about 20 clients on the platform which allows all of our staff to work on something in . We are able to enhance other websites based on new features we see or something a client asks for on one we can implement for others. They have been a great partner.

Pros

For an affordable price, your association can host their website and manage it easily. It has all of the features needed where you don't have to have 1000 platforms and systems to manage and keep track of logins for.

Cons

The biggest complaint I hear is that the meeting registration has one to two too many pages to click through vs. being a one page sign up. That would be a great feature to enhance.

### "Society membership management"

Have had a number of issues, looking at changing to something else that is more user friendly.

Pros

multi user capable. Everything handled in "one place"

Cons

difficult to maintain web pages. have to edit multiple places to update a page. Switched from accepting PayPal to their own credit card processing application. Does not accept any "foreign" card (any card from outside the US, this mean even Canada. We have a number of Canadian based members who can't be processed. Fees are high than PayPal. Can not accept (swipe or chip) cards onsite, have to manually key them in.

### "Room to grow from Good to Great"

We like the website front and back end management. We like the calendaring. We like event management, although it can be improved. The webstore is generally good, but would be much better with financial integration and a more standard order to ship process flow and functionality; i.e., bundling. E-mail communications are good; however, e-mail address flagging and rectifying is AWFUL, and we strongly disagree with 's interpretation of the regulations.

Pros

offers good functionality and management for an affordable price. It puts our website and association management into the cloud, where it belongs, and doesn't require a high degree of tech savvy to manage the site or our day-to-day activity.

Cons

The lack of a financial interface is PAINFUL, and it has resulted in higher than usual external accounting expense to make sense of what we do.

The combination of feature functionality and price The lack of integration with Quickbooks Online almost scuttled the deal. As we flirt with 900 members, that is a lot of extra work. SMDPA is an all-volunteer managed non-profit.

Overall has been a tremendous help with our association management. It has made my job so much easier. The system is easy to manage and maintain. Our members are happy with being able to make payments easier.

Pros

set up our website with our assistance, gave us minimal training, and responds quickly to any questions I might have. They provide help to my questions about adding to, deleting, and changing the website. StarChapter is my first experience with managing a website and has been a very easy to learn and maintain.

Cons

There are certain parts of our paperwork processes that have been a bit difficult to get used to on a website. But the allows you to create support tickets to get assistance on adding or changing information. If the website does not allow certain additions, then the support area sends our suggestions to their management.

is great for organizations because it allows them to keep everything in one place: their website, communications, members/contacts, events, registration, and even the ability to take payments.

Cons

can be a little cumbersome to learn how things are interconnected, but once you get the hang of it, you're golden. The Knowlegebase is a great resource too when you're stuck on something you can't figure out how to do!

I have been using it for 8 months now. The learning curve was a little steep even though I have a lot of background in content management systems. It does take support 2-3 days to reply to a non-urgent request but they have always been very helpful once they respond or we have a zoom meeting.

Pros

Support is very helpful; the product meets our needs and the website looks good.

Cons

The back end is logical but not intuitive. Once you know where something is or how to use it, it works great but those things aren't always intuitive.

As I said, we are a volunteer driven educational organization. assists our organization with managing activities and members, which are our core competencies.

Pros

is easy to implement and use. Their support team is excellent and very responsive. Most of the applications are easy use.

Cons

We are a volunteer driven educational organization. We teach classes in person and virtual. Students are able to retain continuing education points for attending our events. lightly touches on, but does not manage well, our member's tracking of educational points.

We originally chose as a recommendation from another organization in another state.

### "Implementation was frustrating"

Signing up with SP was a real hassle. We are a small non-profit chapter of a national organization with minimal monthly / annual money flows where we need SP to funnel online payments. Their underwriters were not accommodating to the information we provided - we didn't have exactly what they wanted. Our bank issues all checks after we give them an online check request (we have no check stock). What they provided for a voided check was an online version. We explained that, but SP kept demanding a voided check. Had to get SC management to convince the SP u/ws to let our application through. Also, SP's response time was horrible. I would send an uploaded response one day, they would send a system-generated "received it" response the next, then not get to a review until the following day, then respond the day after that. They were so late in approving our account that we had to forgo the online collection in our November 2022 luncheon and dip into savings to pay for the monthly meeting expense out of reserves (about $1,500).

Pros

The look and feel of the ("SC") website is so much better than what we previously had through the national "mother" association.

Cons

Implementation was said to be quick and easy. We had exactly the opposite. Little follow-up, unclear directions, reliance on written tutorials rather than a live body to help us through the process, email contact that was not direct from the implementation person which caused the "system-generated" email to not just get caught in a spam filter but to get lost in a quarantine quagmire. Also, we provided tax details that only were acceptable after we pointed out it was all the IRS issued to us. SC was able to go to the IRS's online look-up which gave SC the same details we sent them - then they said what we sent was good. I still don't understand what the hang-up was but didn't push it any further.When we finally got approval for the StarPay ("SP") module, the SC implementation person turned off our "collect money at the door" option for registrants (she was not directed to do so), and had to go back again to get her to turn that back on. It was an easy and overnight fix, but shouldn't have had to go through the time and hassle of doing that in the first place.

The sales person was quite good. Helped us in a very good presentation. The implementation team left a lot to be desired.

Good days and bad days. There are still a lot things to learn. Knowledge based learning is good. Unfortunately time is a big thing when we all do the job as a volunteer.

Pros

Set up the meeting and the registration for the meeting. Check up the statistic of the use of the website.

Cons

Unfortunately Board member changes every year and new members needs training. An annual introductory training sessions would help.

### "basic features missing"

I think is mostly userfriendly and organized in an intuititve way, on a high level. Doing certain basic tasks seem to have far too many steps, though. Like adding a single member requires going though 7-8 different screens.

Pros

we can manage events, communication, member database and website all from one platform

Cons

the communications tools are limited and the membership functions don't allow for much flexibility with memberships that have multiple people listed. The system forces you to enter a per person dues rate. So a 3 person membership that costs $100 actually costs $33.33 in their system, which when multiplied by three doesn't result in a round number. Members can't upgrade and downgrade as they see fit as well, they have to get in touch with staff.

It functions well. I'm not a heavy content creator, rather more of an information gatherer. I sometimes find it hard to filter on what I need, but it is navigable. I found the previous page difficult as I was character limited but it didn't tell me that.

Pros

It allows us to post our events and classes; it pulls data from our HQ; Templates are manageable

Cons

Setting up templates are not always intuitive; Should offer credit card swipes like hotels so purchases are held until a date we designate. (e.g. offer a class on Jan. 1st. all registrations before Jan. 1st are verified credit, but not charged till Jan. 1st)
