Best way to summarize this app is that when I uninstalled it and left comments with the option to follow up by email - the program threw its usual error message and I wasn't even able to send feedback from within the program. That's how much of a joke it is. Pros It was OK till it wasn't. Had it for years. Cons Always issues. Onus constantly on user to fix. The program has performed very well and the small issues were generally “user issues” rather than faults. My most recent interaction was to enhance my understanding of how the spam filtering worked and how I could further automate the blocking of spam. I was delighted by the service I received, as the email response to my query was returned in just a few hours. As has been my previous experience, the response showed an understanding of my question, a brief but practical solution and in this most recent case, reference to an excellent paper describing the history and the improvements made to the product as well as the “quirks” of the filtering system. I have to declare their support mechanism as a model of support for not only software but for most technological purchases. Such great support only enhances the reputation of the product. Pros This product works as it is claimed to do. It has considerable range of features and complex algorithms to detect spam emails. Cons Whilst the help panels could be expanded to explain the configuration options and the manner in which they work, such detail would necessarily detract from the objective of the help panels to supply “quick” answers to simple questions. The excellent service I have received overcomes any such difficulty. MailWasher Server just works, and does its job very well for my needs. Support has been very timely and efficient, often going the extra mile to troubleshoot perceived issues (I say 'perceived' because so far any issue has embarrassingly been my own, not that of the software) Pros Mailwasher (Server) makes my life easier by automatically blocking spam and junk at the mail server level. I have a small consultancy with a few clients who utilize my mailserver, and MailWasher Server protects all of them (multiple email accounts in multiple domains). It's very easy to learn, configure and use. the Bayesian training is straightforward (and automatic) and it's easy to start over if needed. Setting up 'Good Filters' and 'Bad Filters' is also easy (e.g. create a Good Filter to always allow emails with a wildcard 'from' address of '\*@capterra.com' or even use regular expressions on to, from addresses, subject lines, email body, etc.) Cons I have used this software for several years now, I don't have any cons. Because all the mail you receive remains on your ISP's server until you have cleaned it of undesirables, it is impossible to infect your machine with a virus (unless you open read it in HTML view and click on a link within the mail). You cannot view attachments while mails are on the server either. It provides a level of security that I have never found in any other anti-spam solution. Pros It is 98% perfect and allows total flexibility in control of your mailbox. To be succinct, ISP spam filters often classify mails as spam when they are both legitimate and important. That can result in you not seeing them because they get sent to your spam folder or automatically deleted. Mailwasher leaves you to decide what is spam and what isn't. If you accidentally delete a mail, the restore option will allow you to retrieve it. Cons In the Pro category, I said that the program is 98% perfect. The 2% missing is due to the fact that on rare occasions an unwanted mail will slip through within the space of time you have cleaned the list and then downloaded the remainder. I cannot think of any way the programmer could solve this though as the timeframe is far too tight. Therefore, I mention the issue but would not see it as a reason not to use this program. Pros This software is AMAZING for getting rid of the inevitable junk that seems to somehow filters it's way to your inbox. Our email system has been hacked a few times and so the junk that got through became annoying, we started using this as well as upping our security and this seems to be doing the trick. The software is pretty straightforward when it comes to its features which is to distinguish legitimate email from spam. There are other software out there who claim to do the same, but don’t provide the same accuracy as MailWasher Pro does. I also like that I can easily send a quick reply using the preview window. I think this is pretty sleek and smart for people who are always on the go like me. Cons I don’t have any complaints about this software except for the price. It would have been more attractive if they were to lower the monthly fee, but other than that, everything works perfectly.
