Pros

  • It is a very solid database, with a lot of official and community support and documentation. Very good for those who want to start with database management.

  • Very easy to use , support staff are helpful. Database is great especially as oracle is huge when it comes to databases.

  • It is fast, reliable and secure. A best fit in your technology stack if you are looking for a relational database.

  • Working in it is nice and its also reassuring knowing that its very secure and it never goes down. What I also love is that I can move my data from place to place with ease.

Cons

  • Secondly, it overindulges when its about resources and starves other processes thus needing expensive servers with more resources.

  • Poor support for the open version, hard to maintain for small companies, the learning curve could be high and complicate to read every detail about custom installations.

  • Enterprise licence are very costly. Data Gurad licence sold separately.

  • It often glitches and breaks completely if you don't enter values and click a certain part of your screen before moving on to the next field. Often, this has resulted in frustration and lost time.

"It is considered the database manager par excellence worldwide, however it has its detractors"

Overall: I have learned a lot using Oracle, it would be great if it were not so expensive, as well as being certified in it. It is important to know that a well-crafted database will work in any database manager, Oracle can not solve faults or problems in a poorly-related database

Pros: - Allows the management of relational databases from very simple to large volumes of data. - Because it is relational, the PL / SQL language is used. - It is agile, consistent and robust. - It has all the functionalities that a DBA would like to have for the management, control and performance of the databases. - A well-configured cluster with Oracle is practically invincible. - Oracle is currently bringing all its products and services to the cloud, that is, based on Internet. - The graphic tools used with Oracle are intuitive and easy to use, practically They do all the work. - The tools also allow you to intone databases, improve performance, give you alerts. - Allows to make backup copies, partitions, manage users to control the security of information.

Cons: - An Oracle license is very expensive, so it is not accessible to everyone. - Staff with knowledge in Oracle is equally expensive, information costs money! - It is difficult to access information related to the driver, its configuration and maintenance. - For DBA without experience, a configuration is complicated by the amount of details that must be consider. - If you do not have a graphical interface to work with Oracle, you should have knowledge in commands to work in consoles or terminals.

"Oracle Database: Still a Leader in DBMS and SQL Databases"

Overall: Great experience using Oracle in academia. Concepts such as SQL tuning and optimization, indexing, cloud integration, ER-Design, SQL injection attacks, ... can be effectively demonstrated to students using this RDBMS.

Pros: Oracle Database has been my number one choice when teaching enterprise application development. Although it is a bit heavy and not that easy to deploy, students can get a lot of advantages learning a highly demanded DBMS platform that really adds a lot on their resume. The SQL concepts are easily tested against the database using the SQL Developer software. Moreover, JDBC drivers allow seamless integrations and very high performance when using Java to connect to the database on the client side, or when relying on the Java Servlets and Java Server Pages middleware on the Application server. Using Oracle with Java based technologies was definitely a very compatible option that simplifies and speeds up the development process.

Cons: As stated, Oracle is not very easy to install and configure by novice developers. It is a bit heavy on low end devices.

Alternatives Considered: Microsoft SQL Server
Reasons for Choosing Oracle Database: Oracle is the leader in RDBMS platforms and facilitating its use by CS students would add a lot to their skills and career opportunities.

"Oracle Database - Daily Use"

Overall: We use Oracle every day throughout our entire company. Customer database maintenance, ordering product, processing payments all happen through Oracle.

Pros: I like that this software is a workhorse and really is capable of everything. I also like that it is customizable to the needs of the company using it.

Cons: It really takes a lot of specific training and experience to get to know this system really well. There are a lot of little caveats and silly rules to follow to get things where they need to be. Once you learn the tricks of the trade it's no problem but it is not intuitive or user-friendly at all.

"Oracle Database is a great accounting system for any company"

Pros: I liked that the system offered a convenient way to view all of your customer data and it was easy to navigate the system as a beginner which made it easy to train new employees.

Cons: We can make the font size bigger, add some more color and space it out a bit more so that visually it is more appealing. After a few hours of working looking at the font caused some slight headaches.

"Review for Oracle Database"

Overall: The overall experience with the Oracle Database was excellent. I did my college semester project with it and my final year project has it in it too.

Pros: 1. It did almost everything I wanted to did for my semester project and what it wasn't able to do was always added in the next update. A pleasant surprise. 2. PL/SQL was so difficult for me . But still the documentation made it easy. 3. It's core is a relational database, which is a mathematical model and makes it easier for people from science and mathematics background to understand and use.

Cons: 1. Felt a bit overwhelming in the first few days of its use. 2. So many features and syntax are prone to be forgotten. 3. Expensive if you want to use a particular or minority of features.

"Oracle database Middleware & Cloud services"

Overall: By using oracle database, Meterial management and costing is shown on one window.I immediate realize the product cost and price.Handling All productions Operation Due to its middleware services at one place.

Pros: The most important services is middleware, 3-4 madule can connect and generate output as per desired, For Costing point of view, We can connect Meterial Management system & inventory Management system and Billing management system to produce final costing of a product.Secondly its very easy to modify the oracle forms, reports and Formulas.Through multiple languages we can modify Oracle forms.Third its cloud services, for multi-branches organization we can avail its cloud services, from these services we can collect data form every branch at one window. We can cloud partial data for public and complete data for employees based on organization behaviour.

Cons: Complexity is the main issue of oracle data base, Non technical user cannot use it properly.During Development Error Expectation is high due to its Senstivity of character.

"User Friendly and Has Cool Tools"

Overall: Good experience overall. I like how easy it is to search for what I need from this database. This database is pretty convenient once you get used to it. Only problems I have are occasional slowness, but that might be a connection or table design thing.

Pros: It's easy to find all triggers, procs, views, and tables on the left side. There are also great tables like all_tables and all_source that make it easy to search our entire database for the proc or table I'm looking for. There's a super convenient button that changes the case of all code you highlight in the editor, so you can type in the case that's convenient for you and update everything with the button. I also like that you can pin your query results so they don't go away if you re-run the query or run a different one on the same tab. Each set of query results can be named, so you can run, pin, and rename everything you need, and paste your results somewhere when everything is done running.

Cons: There are more slowness problems in this database than in sql server for large tables. I'm not sure if it's due to table design though. I have to be more careful how I write queries here since some of them can run for hours.

"Nice tool"

Pros: Perhaps the most well tested relational database for large installations. It can handle a huge amount of data and perform well under load Reliability!!! Without a doubt, the Oracle database series (I think it's up to Oracle 12c now) is the `godfather' of commercial transaction and government RDBMS software. With it's different version releases, the software has been around close to 40 years!!! It's the originsl flagship product of the Oracle corporation.

Cons: It's expensive. So, if you don't need to support a lot of data and transactions per second you should seriously consider a cheaper option like MySQL or a nosql database like MongoDB. Installation Time per individual instance!!! I've automated the whole thing from a fresh install of a Linux Operating system and it still takes at least ~3.5 hours to install it, although I've done it in as little as 2.5 hours, but it depends on where the package repository is, and how version control is being handle! (POINT THE MATTER IS, IT CAN TAKE VERY LONG TIME FOR MERE INSTALLATION) On Windows operating systems it can take up to 8 hours or more, your first time around!

"Highly reliable database."

Overall: This is where I started learning and using databases, that means this was the base of all. I was used to write queries and try those out with oracle.

Pros: Most importantly, this supports various data types like text, binary data and numbers and oracle can handle large amount of data efficiently. Also we can easily integrate it with multiple programming languages where I used it in multiple projects with different languages. This supports data backup and replicas and it make sure the availability of data in an unexpected condition.

Cons: As a drawback what I see is the resource consumption of the tool. It takes lot memory and CPU power and that makes my old laptop slower.

"Enterprise level RDBMs; perhaps suitable for enterprises only"

Overall: Oracle is an old elephant that is recommended for large enterprise systems only. So I am satisfied with its performance in larger projects whereas it is not suitable for smaller projects. I use it only when its really needed. For smaller projects i go for MySQL etc.

Pros: Oracle has the advantages of being a mature and stable RDBMS with a lot of features. Unlike its open-source counterpart MySQL; it has better features for point in time recovery; performance and stability. It makes it suitable for Enterprise level projects where performance is a must alongside stability.

Cons: It's not easy to set up in a test environment and containers. Cloud-based setups for this are much expensive. Secondly, you need a lot of client software for backups and interaction with DBMS. Secondly, it overindulges when its about resources and starves other processes thus needing expensive servers with more resources.

"Robust and reliable"

Pros: Oracle is a versatile, robust and reliable database. Can be used for a variety of work loads like OLTP and OLAP. Provides options for easy installation and maintenance but can also be tweaked by advanced users.

Cons: License management is complex. If licenses are understood properly and not managed or tracked, it may lead to legal/financial implications.

"Excerpt on Oracle Database"

Pros: 1. Within the Oracle databases, the application can use multiple schemas. 2. Database tables are assigned to table spaces such that their extent size reflects the size of the table 3.Ability to create all functions and procedures inside Packages [No stand Alone Implementation], and those which define the interface of the package to the outside can be declared in the package header 4. By using Dynamic SQL we've replaced bulky queries by input based optimized queries. 5. Using Oracle's 'Advanced Queuing' we implemented Asynchronous calls in the database enabling us to run processes in the background, when a separate process got executed in the foreground.

Cons: These days capabilities like Oracle are being provided by other open source DB's like Postgres etc at a very nominal cost.

"Oracle Database Review from an Senior Oracle DBA"

Overall: I have used oracle for Datawarehouse, transactional systems, golden gate replications, among others. It is the core database of the company I currently work for.

Pros: I have been working as a Database Administrator since 2011, Oracle is by far the best relational database I have used. It works better on unix-like systems, it is very fast, has lots of parameters to tune to your specific needs and it also has a lot of features like partinioning, high availability soluctions like RAC and Dataguard that make this the best database on the market for mission critical systems.

Cons: The online documentation needs improvement, sometimes it is incomplete, there are not enough examples for some features. Customer Support is erratic, sometimes it´s great and sometimes not so much, it depends on the support tech.

"Oracle review"

Overall: I have been using the oracle database since my carrier beginning. It was using to load the transactional data to oracle tables and making the business use cases to perform the improvements.

Pros: I have been working on the data warehouse projects using the oracle as warehouse database. It is easy to understand and loading into the oracle data base. We can create temp tables and backup tables on the fly for business calculations and remove after the data load into target tables. I would recommend to use Oracle database to use for data warehouse projects.

Cons: I feel that if we can add fast export into files Like fast export and multi load processes. We do have this process in oracle using the bulk load too.

"Best RDBMS in the market"

Overall: Oracle RDBMS is a very vast topic, and it has been an adventure for me to explore its features and how it can be used to simplify the business needs of my customers.

Pros: The high availability features like RAC, the replication features like GoldenGate, the different reporting capabilities using views and DBA_ views, the manageability using Oracle Enterprise Manager, all these make it the most loved Database flavor among its customers. Other flavors of databases are dwarfed when compared to its functionality.

Cons: Oracle RDBMS gives too much importance to data consistency, and can sometimes look complex when trying to solve simple recovery issues. That is one reason why some customers are afraid to use this otherwise powerful software.

"High security, simple database operations, and advanced functionality"

Overall: The database software Oracle is incredibly effective and high-performance. The best feature of Oracle is its connection feature, which makes it easy to connect the database to a project and save data from a project in the Oracle database. It also supports a variety of various platforms.

Pros: It's a fantastic database with a wealth of functionality that is optimised, and I am the one that utilised it for a few years before moving to the cloud. Because of Oracle's excellent support and ability to manage complicated IT applications, database operations are straightforward to do and data processing is quick.

Cons: As it's not an open-source database, we will always have to pay up front when putting a small-scale application into place. I experienced no further drawbacks, therefore if at all possible, utilise this.

"Oracle - Robust and Powerful Database"

Overall: We have had an amazing experience so far with this database. In fact, it is used for lot of things in our organization. Overall, it's a great database management tool.

Pros: Well-suited for storing and handling large volumes of data. It is fast and efficient and easily scalable. Also, it is one of the best databases from the integration standpoint as it allows one to make REST calls to perform CRUD operations over your tables.

Cons: Oracle Database is not easy to use. It is very complex in nature which restricts the ability of users from non-technical background to use it in a proper manner.
