Pros The high availability features like RAC, the replication features like GoldenGate, the different reporting capabilities using views and DBA\_ views, the manageability using Oracle Enterprise Manager, all these make it the most loved Database flavor among its customers. Other flavors of databases are dwarfed when compared to its functionality. Cons Oracle RDBMS gives too much importance to data consistency, and can sometimes look complex when trying to solve simple recovery issues. That is one reason why some customers are afraid to use this otherwise powerful software. It can run on all platforms, from a PC to a supercomputer. It allows to implement "active" designs, with triggers and stored procedures, with a fairly powerful declarative referential integrity. The server software can run on a multitude of operating systems. Oracle is the database with more orientation towards INTERNET. Cons Oracle's biggest problem is its price. It also can handle very large databases which is idea for any real world project. Cons It can be hard to implement certain features and some features seem to be missing or incomplete. I have used it in all projects based on webservices and it proved to be robust . It can handle enormous data with so much fancy functionality. My team just love it and so does me. Pros The best part is the availability of many options for users which makes it very easy to use. It has functions such as full torrence and high performance. It can be used with small as well as large projects. The backup facility is amazing and the learning curve is amazing. It is most stable database I ever seen. The database automatically logs everything you do. Also if a team member messes up information it will show the last person to edit a profile. Pros Once you get the feel for it, it's easy to use. Also the logging of history is nice! Cons Very hard to learn the software in its entirety. We use a small portion of a large application. Very complex when trying to learn and use entire application and all its features. The info is only as good as you put into it. Centralize the business around it and it'll work. Pros We have used Oracle Database extensively within our business. This is more of the backbone of the business and has allowed us to be very efficient and work through day to day business with ease and focus on operations. So much you can do with Oracle Database, and the reporting is excellent! Cons This take a bit to get used to / trained up on, but we have some specialist who know how to navigate through and train others up, and this has been essential in our business. Pros Super power database engine, very good structure design, it is the most powerful and robust relational database on the market. Cons it is pricy and the license schema is very complicated, even an average oracle DBA might be lost in the licensing arrangement and use some feature unintentionally thus breaching the license agreement. Cons Oracle Database is a very complex and complicated RDBMS. As a person with non technical background I found it hard to use. Although there are quite a lot materials to learn (tutorials, documentation, etc.) - many of these materials are of bad quality. Also the queries took considerable amount of time to finish - the whole system was hard to scale due to on premise architecture. I found tools like Snowflake much easier to learn and work with. The company I worked for had budgeted $500,000 for the conversion from old database to Oracle. When I left them that budget had gone over cost by $1.5 billion.
