June 10, 2019 5.0 The #1 thing i see people do and complain later about with any software, is what is installed with it. With Norton, and other software i've used, when i do installs, i make sure that i know Everything it wants to install. Norton will tell you exactly what everything is and does and you can opt out of some components. #2 is Updates. Gotta do them and you can let them know times best. And one thing i've also liked, is setting up an external hard drive and having Norton doing the backup of the files and Info that i Really need. All this stuff is really easy to configure and understand for even the novice computer user. I know this as i've had to show my Dad that it's not as hard as he thinks it is and at 82, he is one stubborn old man. Pros When used correctly, it WILL protect your computer(s). No Pop-up ads. Pros I've rarely had any issues with the program, but whenever I have had an issue it only took one call to get it resolved. They will do what is necessary to make it right again. Cons Some difficulty in getting through to customer service (length of time on hold) and, of course, the support staff have heavy accents that that make some of them difficult to understand. Also, still only monitors the 2 inbound and outbound ports for the old pop protocols - this should be updated for the more modern IMAP protocols. I would not hesitate to recommend or continue to use Norton products and offerings Pros Any application or tool that I can have running seamlessly in the background without my needing to manage is always an asset. I really like the fact that Norton continues to be a leader in the field of not only anti virus but also is a valuable partner in our cyber security posture for our information security team. Its easy to deploy and centrally manage for the entire spectrum of end users Cons The one thing that annoys me is that after a while it seems that this anti virus can slow down my PC. It is centrally managed, and can be annoying if my computer gets bogged down during a scan while I am still working. Pros Norton handles everything from virus protection to firewall/intrusion prevention, device performance tasks, regular data back-up to guard against ransomware, to phishing prevention and more. I've never suffered a security breach in the 6+ years I've used their products. I have them on every device and in addition to following proper security practices, I have peace of mind my data and devices are safe. Cons It's not too cheap, but you can often find discount codes online and when you use it for multiple devices (up to 10) it's really not that bad in terms of cost per device. It also has a lost device feature that I hope you never have to use, but I think it is a very useful tool (if needed) in case of loss, you can lock the device or delete it remotely. Cons Norton can be a bit expensive, and it is a big problem for memory. At first a message appeared constantly, where I noticed that the program likes to take a little more control of what could be expected, such as scans and additional updates, it is solved when making the configuration correctly. Also, it's nice that it transfers to mobile devices without any additional download or cost. Cons Sometimes, a threat is identified and "stopped", yet the next time a scan is run, the same threat will still be there. These are either slipping through or reappearing, which, in either case, is problematic. Also, If you are suspicious that something bad has already been downloaded, not a problem. Let the Norton scan through your pc and it can help you locate if anything bad is there. It is a software that just works. Cons The only major con is the price. They get you hook by making you think if you sign up now you get this great discount. You do get a cut but that price is only valid for the first year. After that they will automatically renew for a higher price. Initially I had used Norton on stand alone computers and it slowed my computer down considerably. This is no longer an issue. I used a different company a few years back and was very pleased with the transition to Norton. Pros It does what it says! We use the Symantec Norton on our server to keep 100+ computers safe from viruses, malware and children mischief. Seriously, it catches many attempted intrusions on our system and sends me alerts when students attempt to violate our terms of service agreement. I never have to worry about the product doing what we pay for. Cons In the beginning we had to install on each of the client computers in order for the computer to contact the server for updates etc. This was a big undertaking each time we had a new license or a renewal. It had all the features that most antivirus provide and the services are nice as well. The ease of use was very nice, allowing new users to have a better time understanding the interface and how it works. It cleaned out my laptop and kept my laptop away from viruses. Cons Norton isn't the only anti-virus software that is available to the general population. There are free softwares that also have the same functionality as Norton. After my trial ended, it kept sending me messages telling me to renew my subscription so I eventually deleted it and installed a new anti-virus that did not require subscription and was easy to use. They not only have they comprehensively state-of-art upgraded, but they have anticipated attack types and never have missed an attack (and they have stopped many). Moreover, as other security suites have come and gone (or been acquired and radically modified), Norton has remained consistent, strong, and improved. Cons The full suite is a tad pricey; and while it out performs any competitor, it still is expensive and at time blind-sides me with module pricing.
