On the other hand, I think there are other alternatives that I may have to try because I think the market has become very competitive and more attractive options are emerging. Pros I have been using this brand of antivirus for a long time and it is one of the best I have tried; it offers antivirus scanning and online protection, it also detects websites with intrusive content. The effectiveness of its alerts is another plus, it also checks and disinfects all downloaded files. It is very powerful, intuitive and its administration is the simplest thing. To provide extra protection on the Internet, Norton goes a step further because it can be added to the Facebook to detect unsafe site links. The protection from viruses and malware is commendable, and the software does it all without any substantial impact on the system performance. I have seen anti-virus software that slows down the performance of the computer during a scan is going on, but Norton is way ahead of these minute details that bother me especially during crunch hours. I love that there is quite a bit of space available online for back-ups as well. Cons Well, it is definitely better than my previous anti-virus which used to hinder the progress of my work due to constant system slow-downs. It has a friendly and easy to use interface. It also has the useful tools of Norton System Works (such as WinDoctor, DiskDoctor, SpeedDisk, GoBack, Ghost, etc.). It makes analysis faster and less frequent, intelligent technology identifies and analyzes only files at risk and recognizes applications that should not block or analyze. Cons Little or almost no compatibility with the Windows XP firewall. Confusing customer service via phone or online chat. Poor performance against spyware and other threats and regular blocking of incoming scripts. The first scan of the computer is very slow and the uninstallation process is somewhat difficult. In this day and age of identity theft, hacking, phishing, etc. I have always wanted to feel secure. I have used other companies before this and did not like what was offered. I have used it for as long as I can remember and feel less vulnerable with it. I am not overly paranoid about hacking and malware, but feel that with this software running I am protected to a high degree. It's definitely more expensive than some other security software but, in my opinion, you get what you pay for. They stay up to date with as many current threats as possible. My machines have been well protected and I've never had an issue. Knock on wood! Pros What I like most about Norton Security is that most things can be automated so that you can set them up to protect your machine, daily, and then forget about it. It will run in the background at regular intervals while you're getting things done and generally doesn't interrupt anything, unless your computer needs a restart for a particular patch or update. Cons What I like least about this software is there are often popups or alerts trying to get me to upgrade or purchase add-ons. I'd like the option to upgrade, perhaps, at a future point. But I don't want to get a popup every single time I power up my computer or open my browser. Originally, I used to use Kaspersky, long time ago and I switched to Norton and have been using and renewing Norton ever since. I use it on my mobile devices as well. Pros Norton Security is my primary security software on all devices including mobile devices. I like the fact that I can buy one multi-device license and use it on all of my devices. Norton security is also very good at preventing malicious software/apps from installing on my devices. The history of intrusions is very detailed and I like the flexibility to be able to restore some false positive files. I like Norton community watch which enhances threat detections. I also like the family report emails I get. Cons I don't like the fact that sometimes Norton security uses too much cpu and disk. When my PC is idle, Norton security run idle tasks, but I was not able to figure out what tasks it runs and disable them. Also when using the built-in cleaner tool, Norton security starts cleaning right way without showing what items it detected or identified to clean/remove from my PC. Customizing the rules are somewhat complex although Norton security for the most part automatically sets up rules for apps I install. Review Source Deanna W. Advertising and auto-renewal are tedious. Pros In the 9+ years that I have used this product, I've only had one minor virus issue which I was able to fix. I haven't had any other virus issues that I am aware of while using this product. I like some of the optional web search and safety features. Pricing is reasonable and covers up to 5 devices. Cons The software uses my Norton dashboard to advertise their identity protection services and other additional services that I do not need. You can turn this off in settings but it seems a bit cheesy to be advertised to on a software I purchased. Then again that is becoming the norm these days. Also their auto-renewal program is a but pushy and your price will go up each year if you allow auto-renewal rather than going to the site and getting the best deal on the year's subscription. Pros I almost lost most of my files on the first Windows desktop computer in my office but I could save some important documents due to the complete scan run on it with Norton Antivirus by our IT guy. I have always been getting warnings and notifications about some harmful websites I visit. This is especially helpful as I might not know all the websites that are potentially harmful. I also allow the antivirus to run any flash drive inserted in any of my personal computers before opening any file. Cons I feel that the upgrade system can be made more automatic and seamless than the constant advertising reminders on the available updates of the product. I know my computer is safe from malware and viruses. Also the reminders I receive to back up my files really helps. Norton got me out of a tight spot when my computer got a virus. It was about to snuff it out before it ever became an issue. Pros What I like most about Norton is the ease of use. When you open the app of your PC it gives you 4 option- Security, Internet security, Backup and performance. All are displayed largely and clear. You can click on any of the option and it will give you a small selection of items to chose from. Honestly, its hard to get lost. Everything is laid out so well. The option to create a back up has saved me many times, from deleted a file or recovering years of book-keeping. I love the auto scans it preforms to keep my PC safe, clean and fast. Cons The one thing I don't like about Norton is the build in ads that pop up on you notification screen unexpectedly. They are always offering products and reminders which get annoying. Also, the first time I tried to log in to my account it was a hassle. I had all the right info but I had to enter the same info 3x before I was taken to the page I was looking for.
