Pros Once configured, worked seamlessly with high page per minute batch scanning hardware. Respected DPI and corrected for skew. Cons initial configuration was daunting. So many options to configure. Much of it was trial and error. But it was good to have that many options available to fine tune the resulting text. They are so comfortable, and we have to transfer everything back to the computer. Manually, of course, we do not do this, but use FineReader. It does an excellent job with the conversion, but errors sometimes happen, especially with regard to the recognition of special characters. In general, I like everything. Cons The 14th version of the program does not work correctly: the automatic brightness adjustment broke, the document opens on the second attempt, the contrast change function disappears. Cons There's no way to correct ocr mistakes like you can in Adobe acrobat. The line straightening and trapezoid corrections are unique among OCR programs available on the market. Cons There should be a feature where you can place delete cell dividers to a single cell in a table, not just by merging or dividing. Currently, when you place a divider, it goes into the whole table, and then you have to merge all of the cells where the divider is unwanted. Reason for choosing ABBYY FineReader PDF I now use ABBYY more often than OMNIPage. But sometimes OMNIPage Ultimate works better, especially on tables with complex structures. OMNIPage also has a built-in .pdf generator (SoftScan), which can be useful at times. It beautifully recognizes tables, graphics, creates multi-page documents. In principle, I do not have to correct too much. To edit a document, you have to use a program that translates the image into the usual docx format. The FineReader service does a good job with text recognition. Cons You can't do without mistakes - it is advisable to reread the resulting text at least once. Surely there are a couple of typos in it. Pros It's an impressive software product for all sort of needs regarding OCR scanning, editing and converting. Most common use is converting photos/scans of documents to editable files and it's doing it fantastically. OCR is near perfect, depending on quality of input materials and fonts used in original material. Another very useful option is to compare 2 documents of different types and to check differences in them. You have to use it only once and You remain hooked on it. Cons The biggest problem this software product have is a price. Also marketing/promotional reasoning about it is so lame. Non-English letters can be problematic. Review Source DM Davide M. I have not seen before that digitization was done so quickly. I also like that the program understands not only text, but also recognizes tables. Cons In general, I am satisfied with the program, but the program confuses some symbols. The most frequent problem is when the program instead of zero writes the other letter. The OCR has good accuracy and good results. Cons I wish ABBYY FineReader PDF could be smarter, they have a great tool but it is missing smartness. maybe they can include AI in their OCR to convert text in Word or Excel exactly like the original version. It recognizes scanned pages without any difficulties, and also makes it possible to import Microsoft text just as easily. Cons Not all versions of ABBYY FineReader work equally well. Great way to archive documents digitally by converting to a doc then saving in the cloud. Pros ABBYY FineReader makes it super easy to run OCR on scanned documents. The accuracy is pretty good for standard documents and business cards. Cons The OCR engine was not the best at maintaining anything that is within tables such as invoices.
