### "Now, I have more personal time."

Partnering with Maestro Bocavox the first time was a blessing, but partnering with them again—this time with a new company—felt like reconnecting with an old friend. We picked up right where we left off and immediately hit the ground running with our new SIS. The ongoing support from \[sensitive content hidden\] is outstanding. \[sensitive content hidden\] even reaches out proactively just to check in if she hasn’t heard from me in a while. I highly recommend Maestro Bocavox SIS and their dedicated team to anyone looking for a customizable student information system backed by staff who work tirelessly until the job is done—often ahead of schedule.

Pros

The flexibility of the SIS has allowed for full customization, enabling us to automate processes that were previously handled manually. This has allowed me to work part-time and freed up valuable time to spend with my family. The team truly listens to understand our workflow logic and then builds the system to accommodate the intricacies of our business.

Cons

Although it works on a mobile device, I find it difficult to navigate and use the administration module features on my phone.

### "Great SIS!"

Maestro has been a game changer for our school. For the first time in over ten years, we have a platform that parents can access online and staff can access from any device. With the number of customizations and LTI connections, we will have a more user-friendly and robust SIS than before. Maestro was responsive and helpful in addressing our unique needs. They carefully investigated the state requirements and adjusted their program to fit our unique setting. We still have a lot of bugs to work out but I am confident Maestro will meet our needs moving forward.

Pros

We have been in operation for over ten years and have used a custom-built SIS in the FileMaker Pro platform. While it had many features we used and appreciated, there was no parent portal or online access. After researching a multitude of other SIS programs, our admin team selected Maestro as our finalist. I truly feel there is no other SIS program that could meet our unique needs as an online charter school in Oregon. During the entire set up and implementation process Maestro has been responsive, available, and thoughtful in their approach to our unique programs. They helped us meet each important reporting deadline throughout the year. They can build out the program to nearly whatever request you have. The ease of access and support have been amazing.

Cons

We were one of the first schools in Oregon to use Maestro so there was a learning curve there with all the complex reports needed for Oregon. Maestro was responsive, available, and helped us meet each deadline, it is just something to know is going to take time when they are working with a new state. Moving an SIS is a huge undertaking! Do not underestimate the amount of time, resources, and staff time moving your SIS will take.

Maestro offered all the features of an SIS we wanted, LTI, customizations, but more importantly, they were willing to work with our unique requirements. Many of the other programs wanted us to do attendance their standard way, or would not build out customizations for us. In the end, moving to Maestro was a game changer for our school. I look forward to finalizing our implementation next year.

As far as being a huge undertaking, we try to make our users aware that changing systems is work, and cite the responsibilities they will need to assume in our proposals to make the expectations clear. Having a well-organized, techy project manager who understands the needs of the institution and plans ahead makes for an easier transition. For large institutions such as yours that have a variety of complex business practices and want to take full advantage of all that Maestro offers, the first few months are indeed a challenge, but once the entire system is configured for the individual institutional needs, our users tell us that the payoff in increased efficiency is worth the pain. I certainly hope you'll find the same to be true for Baker, once you get your final decisions made and give us your final specifications so we can complete your reporting needs! The good news is, teachers can become Maestro SME's with only 2 hours of training!

### "Maestro doesn't withstand heavy use at peak times"

It works well with Courseware but I wouldn't suggest heavy usage.

Pros

Bulk enrollment features are nice when they can withstand the traffic. Making changes to students is easy. The ability to customize features is good.

Cons

Can't withstand the heavy traffic at peak enrollment times. Spinning and wait time unacceptable during peak enrollments with multiple users.

Reason for choosing MAESTRO SIS

We used Maestro first and switched over to Geniussis but currently use both products. Migration to Geniussis will take more time but if Maestro had been able to withstand more users and traffic we may have stayed with it solely.

To provide context for Ms. Penrod's comments, within 2 weeks of Edmentum's 4400% increase in enrollments due to COVID (from July to August 2020), Maestro SIS was fully functional, as soon as we were able to get additional CPU. Had BocaVox been given a heads-up that there would be such an increased load, we would have increased the infrastructure in advance to support such a load. Maestro SIS has a test site with 2,000,000 enrolments that is scalable for enterprise clients. BocaVox is currently in the process of transitioning our institutions with 100K+ enrollments to the cloud, to facilitate the ability to quickly ramp up for unanticipated peaks.

They customize on the fly immediately for you, you’ll need we hear that they’ll put something on their future mapping to be considered. This will be the only ever be the SIS intelligence system you’ll need. I’ve been building online schools for over 12 years across the United States. You’ll not need any other SIS that will integrate with your curriculum or external platforms.

Consistently, over several years, the BocaVox team has provided timely and helpful support for our school’s SIS needs. They have gone above and beyond to find and coordinate specialized solutions for us. They are a great company to work with.

Pros

Excellent web-based solution for us (300-500 students), integrated with our LMS, several straightforward and helpful features, and great customer service and support.

Cons

Some of the new software updates took a long time to deploy and there were some initial setbacks we encountered for our specific needs. However, they worked diligently with us to find solutions.

Overall, this is a good warehouse for student information. There are still program features that could be improved upon - most importantly, the ability to better format emails.

Pros

Maestro was a good place to organize all the necessary information needed to teach students remotely. I could use this system to send emails to students and all necessary support systems - special educators, school coordinators, guardians, guidance counselors, etc. This was very useful in tracking communication. Additionally, I could access student profile information - addresses, phone numbers, IEPs, birthdays, etc.

Cons

The time-out feature and lack of autosave has been an issue. I lost an hour of entering data for report card purposes because the system timed out, and the information did not save. Additionally, the email formatting is horrible. You cannot create emails using paragraph structure.

Dear Tiffany, Thank you for your suggestions. We always appreciate hearing from others re how we can make Maestro better. No one else has requested auto-save but it's something we can add to our roadmap for a future release. Regarding the time out feature, it's an important security feature that can be increased or decreased based on the preferences of the client. There is a scrolling warning to let the user know 2 minutes prior to the time out. All you have to do is click for the timer to start over. Regarding your comments about Maestro's email functionality, we are sorry that you were unable to use the paragraphing structure. Maestro has allowed us to streamline nearly every process we currently do. In years past we had to work in a chain where one person had to do something before the next task could be started. Now, everyone can work at the same time to quickly process student applications and enrollments. Maestro has also allowed us to add a layer of accountability so we can ensure every student is working at an acceptable pace and staff members are responsive to student requests.

Pros

When we didn't have Maestro we had duplicated data entry, scattered data, and an inefficient course enrollment process across three LMSs. Now, we can quickly scale our organization to meet our needs and all staff members have access to the most up-to-date student information. The entire staff has been responsive to every request and willing to handle requests on short notice to get us out of jams (that they didn't cause).

Cons

We just got through our first day of school with Maestro and nothing was "brought to light" by our student population so I have nothing to add here.

Offering management services to a number of accredited K-12 virtual schools, Academica Virtual Education has a great need for ensuring that our educators'and the students, parents, and communities we serve'have access to the best possible methods of monitoring student success, identifying academic problems before they become crises, and ensuring that all stakeholders are informed, knowledgeable, and invested in the ultimate achievement of our learners. However, their Student Information System, Maestro SIS, has provided us with much more than just monitoring and reporting features. Their team has worked tirelessly with us to customize their system to our needs, providing us with specialized pathways for grouping and communicating with students through our House Affiliation motivational and community-building endeavor and creating unique supervisory roles for educational professionals not previously available through a traditional brick-and-mortar mindset (academic coaches, virtual teacher mentors, and blended lab site coordinators, just to name a few). Under the leadership of Sue Diseker, the Maestro SIS team has not only been responsive and gracious with their time and energy but major contributors in helping us think most clearly through potential issues and problems, and of course, proactive solutions. From that standpoint, they have ceased to be vendors and have truly become strategic partners and peers in the movement to transform the world for the better through online learning.

The move to Maestro was a huge undertaking with a very tight window for the migration. The Bocavox team was very attentive and worked hard to ensure our various business models were able to be implemented with as few hiccups as possible. Our schools were very impressed with the new workflow and we have really appreciated the extra data available with our new system. Thanks to the team at Bocavox for a great product with even better support. We look forward to the new features coming out in the planned product updates that will provide our students more flexibility and the ability to provide more custom branding! Thank you Bocavox!

When considering a SIS, Maestro by Bocavox is a robust product choice. We were in the unique position of starting a school from scratch and, after much research, chose Maestro and Brightspace as our SIS and LMS. Dean Stephens and his team have delivered, not only a great product but also exceptional service. The project phase was well planned and executed and we got tons of support as we worked in the system after it went live. Integration with Brightspace was tougher than we expected but the Bocavox team was there with us all the way, going far above and beyond to deliver the solution we needed. Our students, faculty and staff find it intuitive and it delivers all the features they need. We look forward to many years of continued use of Maestro. My suggestion for moving forward would be to create a completely separate Higher Education version and brand and market it separately.

Maestro is very feature rich, and can accommodate the scheduling and assessment of essentially any type of learning environment. There are components of it that are cumbersome to use, but a lot of that seems due to how versatile and flexible it is.
