They occupy a good niche in HR management for internal employees and external applicants. I doubt any other software is up to par. Pros After starting at a new company, I found that Workday was excellent for onboarding task management. The requirements are itemized and quickly refresh once completed, helping me stay on task in a new environment that requires significant amounts of time for onboarding. Cons I'm still having some trouble using the organizational chart/tree lookup function. I think some training videos for this and other features would help a lot. Cons It wonky when you first get started without clear instructions on how to navigate the workflow. Things are not well grouped in folders or spaces to ensure differentiation. Its a solid all in one HR system that makes managing payroll, time off, and performance much easier. Theres a small learning curve and it can be a bit slow at times but once you get use to it, its reliable and saves a lot of hassle. Pros I really like how everything HR related is in one place, like payroll, time off, scheduling and reviews. The interface is clean and modern and reporting tools are powerful once you get the hang of them. Cons Sometimes the system feels slow, specially when switching between pages or running reports. Some menus aren't very intuitive at first and occasional small bugs pop up. Pros Logging invoices is easier than the old system, the work flow is setup and easy to use. All in one capability for HR needs including ability to do goals, schedule company wide reminders, and provide employee feedback through Peakon. Cons The old software used to note save your goals and had trouble uploading, but they have fixed most of those bugs, so it is much easier to use now. I\`ve worked with SAP, SF, PeeopleSoft. Greenhouse. Pros It\`s flexible, easy language to understand and resourceful integration wise. Certifications have been upgraded and now it\`s simpler to become certified. Cons I believe there are some clear opportunities to enhance Global Mobility, International assignments and Onboarding functionalities. Management Technician II Public Safety Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Public Safety/Law Enforcement Beware" May 26, 2025 2.0 Workday HCM has significant incompatibilities with the public safety/law enforcement world. Transitioning to Workday has genuinely slowed our internal processes. For a more standard 9-5/40-hour work week field, it is quite possible that Workday fully meets the HCM needs with ease. That has simply not been the case for us. Pros Generally speaking, Workday HCM processes are fairly straightforward. Processes are logically set up -- the user is able to use the search function with what they need to accomplish, and can find what they're looking for with minimal effort/training. Cons Workday has limited capabilities for the public safety/law enforcement field. Firstly, personnel-related processes can only be completed one at a time. For example: if I have an employee evaluation pending for someone, I cannot simultaneously request to change their supervisor, move their "cost center," or request a merit change. Depending on the industry you work in, this may not matter. For public safety -- where change is the one true constant -- this makes life difficult. We have constant overlapping status changes that cannot be reflected as one task is at the mercy of another task being completed (which in itself is at the mercy of the entire chain of command "approving" any single status change). For payroll, Workday is not immediately compatible with a 24-hour, 365-day workplace (as is the case with public safety). We have had a buildout to patch with our scheduling software that has been in progress for literal years, and it is still being worked on -- there seems to be a new issue every pay period. As far as recruiting goes, applicants needing to create a new account for every company they apply to is both messy and inconvenient. November 17, 2025 2.0 Overall work day is really easy to use for HR means but when it comes to their LMS it does need several improvements to be made so that it can be used as a true learning management system. Pros What I like most about Workday is that when it does function properly as an LMS, it does well and is able to run SCORM packages as expected. I also like that Workday does track several key components needed for training records and that Workday strives to improve its LMS and how learning partners, like myself, can customize campaigns. Cons What I like about Workday is that it does have trouble reading more complex SCORM packages that require tracking of a completion with a quiz that has multiple attempts. There were several back and forth with the Workday team to see what was happening, but no solution was given except to re-evaluate how the SCORM package was set up. Cons Sometimes have issues with getting updates on pending application status or details of pay range for jobs that are posted. The centralized data and analytics are impressive and clearly built for complex organizations. Cons The platform is complex and requires proper setup and training. It’s not the most intuitive system for new users who are being brought on. From it's time clock uses to the way it organizes my pay and benefits information, I can wholeheartedly say that Workday is an excellent time tracking tool that all employers should consider using. Pros Workday makes clocking in and out of my shifts very easy! In addition to being an excellent time clock application, Workday also makes submitting PTO requests a breeze! Cons As a daily user of Workday, I can not think of a single thing I dislike about Workday. I haven't had an issues with bugs and it seems to work well for my company's management. Cons Nothing to report at this time. thank you for the product and I will let you know if anything pops up in the future. I would love for my company to allow access to the app though. Mobile App and UI Could Use Some Improvements" August 21, 2025 5.0 Pros Workday makes it easy to see your Payroll details, identify who you report to, and view contact information of your colleagues in the event you needed to contact them. Cons The UI sometimes uses jargon that is hard to understand and the site doesn't provide anything you can hover over to clarify what they are talking about. Pros Workday is a great platform to reference internal documents when I have questions around my benefits, days off, and what events are going on related to my company throughout the world. Cons Workday HCM is a very straightforward platform at first glance, but there’s a lot of complicated details involved when you go beyond the surface for what should be an easy to use platform.
