Business Optimization Manager Automotive Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Halo Review" December 2, 2019 4.0 It has taken a long time to implement, much of that is on us because of the way we decided to implement. I don't believe we were given sufficient advise in the beginning. We have since transferred to new account and project managers and things are moving along nicely. My advise would be to understand the software using simplified data first, once you have a good understanding of the extractions, transformations and how those translate through SQL to the BI tool, you are on your way to building a user friendly BI tool. Pros The ease of creating dashboards and reporting and the transparency and self service of the Data Warehouse. Cons The amount of time the BI tool takes to load and the high cost of upgrading to more bandwidth on the server. Manager Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "The Big Thing That Prevented Our Spreadsheets From Controlling the Office" December 8, 2025 4.0 It is beginning to help us combine different departments (headcount, sales, budgeting) onto one cloud platform so they are at least looking at the same version of truth, and not multiple versions of the same spreadsheet, which is beneficial. In addition to all of this, the extremely fast calculation engine will allow us to run large scenario models quickly and honestly, it is the reason I am able to complete my job within enough time to actually leave for the day. Pros I'm happy that our business staff (Finance & Sales) is able to make their own changes to our logic instead of always having IT Implementation do these simple fixes. And the logic changes made by our staff are identical in concept to how the other office programs work, so I’m thankful we didn’t have to learn anything new and they are also adding new features constantly or whatever is gained by the product by doing that. Cons You have to be doing something massive with it to justify the cost of this product, otherwise it’s way too expensive for basic tasks. I would say the biggest complaint I have, and I mean major complaint, is the concurrency issues – that blue box that locks you out of a process when another user is running a process, it seems like this is happening to every client we have and they complain about it all the time This creates downtime for everyone and you just sit around and wait and wait. This software was the BI tool in use. I found it was not intuitive to use and was rarely used. As luck would have it, with personnel changes, I found myself as the main person to use. I feel more confident in the decisions we have made to plan our life because the data seems better linked and reliable. Pros The thing I love best about Logility is the ability to consolidate demand and supply planning in one place with out having to jump from spreadsheet to system. I use it every day, to see our forecasts, understand inventory levels and work with the procurement team and all in real time. The sync to our ERP is seamless so I always have the most current data when making planning decisions. Cons The upfront configuration was time intensive and it wasn’t easy getting everyone up to speed on how to use the more advanced forecasting models. Some reports still need the odd hack (especially when I want to parameterize across territories or product lines). I also wish the interface was a little more modern and streamlined, it can be clunky to navigate between views. The trends for our Supply Chain are now available visually. It shows how the performance metrics are performing without having to click through 20 separate folders. Pros Instead of opening a pile of mail, I am doing this so yeah, it takes those raw data and creates the graphs and I am happy that it did not crash my computer during the initial setup. It ties into both SQL and Excel so I no longer have to manually merge them. Cons It has been a real challenge trying to set up DAX, as the formulas never seem to be correct and it gets very slow once you add a lot of data to it. Cons Atfirst you might think the interface is hard to adapt to but it gets better over time. Also there are aspects of the configuration that needs more use of technology by me. Exporting data straight from our ERP system into mostly Excel based reports. This was not only time consuming but also led to many errors in reporting, often having more than one version of the truth. That is why we decided to explore what our options were with BI. During our evaluation of many different BI vendors/software we quickly saw Halo rise above the rest. Halo Source is everything you need from a data warehouse, and cube creation perspective. On top of that, it is using full Microsoft based technology which makes the learning curve extremely fast, even for those non-developers. A deciding factor for Halo was the data quality module. Everyone has some form of dirty data, but Halo has a solution for that. It was the only company that offered this sort of feature and was a major reason we selected Halo as our business intelligence solution. You absolutely do not need to know how to write SQL to spin up your own data warehouse and cubes for use with Halo Prism. On the topic of Prism it is very streamlined visualization tool. Drag and drop with as many visual options as you would need. Prism has allowed us to gain insight into our data that we have struggled see. We truly believe that this will be one our most successfully projects that has the largest impact since our ERP implementation, and even then this is really the icing on the cake for our complete ERP suite. Pros Support from the point of sale and beyond. I have never been sold a product where the vendor kept constant contact even after the sale and install. Halo truly cares about their customers and their product, and we look forward to a long successful relationship with them. Prism is extremely user friendly, drag and drop measures and dimensions to quickly and easily answer questions about your business. Only software/solution to address data quality as a key part of the ETL process. Solution experts who really know my business and our ERP system. Training was exceptional. Prebuilt templates to address industry specific needs. Cons Wish we could have moved forward with our BI approval faster. This was on us not Halo we just were not sure as a Business what we wanted. But once we had our demo it was clear Halo was our top choice. Power BI put a wrench in this process giving pause from our Executives, but once I tried to replicate some reports in Power BI and saw how large the learning curve was and that it did not include the foundation of any BI solution (a data warehouse) Halo again was where we turned. We had no analytics/bi department prior to Halo. Now we are acting like a very advanced department with many subject areas being deployed each month. In just 6 months time, I now have Inventory, Account Ledger, Open Orders, and other things visualized and refreshing automatically everyday. Super excited about the future with this tool. Pros I like the flexibility it puts in the hands of the front end users. There is very little development time needed to "format charts" to be color schemes or certain column headers, etc. A front-end user can take on all that work in this tool. The main development is in building the cube and creating definitions on the backend for the facts, measures, and dimensions. Once that is done, the tool takes care of itself. I've used QlikView and Tabelau and Halo provides a nice consistent way of easy spin-up. Cons There is a steep learning curve in the beginning on all the settings associated with cubes, understanding processing order of operations, etc. Once you get a feel for that, things come together nicely. One major downfall is that everything "must" be in a cube with a time dimension. However, if you have non-time dimensional data you could just 'fake it', so it isn't a problem that can't be overcome. If you are used to using QlikView or something, where you can just load a dataset, you'll need to adapt to understand to use the front-end of Halo it needs to be in cube form. There are regular enhancements to the product. Halo keep me well informed about new features. Support for modifications is generally prompt. Cons No major complaints. A simpler way to email reports or choose specific data from reports and print to PDF or email would be good. Reports with quite a few calculated field can be slow to run. The report updates after every change you make - perhaps might be useful at times to be able to make several changes and then have it update. Review Source SR Steve R. Source data is easily readable in SQL Server. The software is continuously evolving. Service top notch; a quick email asking how to accomplish something is often responded to within the hour. Cons A few nuances that have workarounds or functions that aren't intuitive, especially in Source. For some offhand examples: Ctrl+S doesn't save a project. You can't add a SQL Expression field if the datasource is Access (without fiddling with the source fields). Can't delete a range out of the processing log. I think there are occasions when right-clicks don't do what I'd expect. Just really minor things that trip me up for a moment and I don't think about them again until next time. We were able to do a quick implementation and were up and running quickly for our leadership team. Pros I like the fact that the information provided is in an easy to understand format and you can quickly see if there is a business metric that needs to be investigated. Halo is easy for the leadership team to use and to do their own quick drill downs without having to ask IT for assistance. It is very intuitive. We view BI as a resource to point management to what to focus on and Halo provides an excellent tool to accomplish this. Cons There really are no cons. I find it a bit distracting the way we get pop up boxes when navigating the mouse over the charts, but that is a minor thing. Review Source DL Denys L. It's helped us significantly reduce our data integration and report authoring turnarounds. We're using it as a foundation to build our BI/A stack. Basically it stopped us from making decisions off three different versions of the truth. Pros Ok i know you can hear the kids yelling in the background and im gonna have to bear with that, the most important part is that Logility has both demand planning and inventory/supply chain functionality within one platform rather than the prior practice of using multiple spreadsheets (5) to jump between. I can pull up the dashboards and visually analyze how demand inventory and supply chain are related to each other; and since these dashboards sync with our erp system the numbers i am analyzing are actual, not 3 days old. Forecasting accuracy improved since switching to Logility and that was not something id expected. Cons Setup was longer than we were told - i mean a lot longer. Its a little petty but the ui still looks kinda out-of-date. Finding an exact metric thats titled differently than the dashboard title takes a while. Why cant they be the same. Ad hoc reporting/analysis isnt nearly as flexible as id like it to be either. Sometimes i still have to find a workaround to view the data in a certain way across various geographies. With Logility we are able to use all the information in one place; therefore, we are all working with the same numbers. In addition, it allows non-supply chain individuals to view the performance metrics without requiring someone to interpret them for them. Pros I think the most important feature for me is the Dashboards; I am able to see how demand, inventory and supply all relate to each other in one place, without having to wait for IT to run a report. The flexibility in the data modeling layer allowed us to take input from different systems that were previously separate. Now management can access the data themselves instead of sending me an ad hoc request, which has significantly reduced the number of requests I receive. Cons The initial set up and configuring the cubes took much longer than I anticipated. It is not something you would be able to pass along to a non-technical individual and then walk away from. Additionally – and I know this is a minor complaint – the pricing model for licensing has changed over time, in a way that is frustrating, as things that were included previously are no longer included today. Overall, I find support to be good, however, the amount of time it takes to resolve certain configuration issues has been lengthy. Review Source DA Daniil A. And I am no longer required to spend countless hours writing every line of code necessary to generate predictions. It helps me link other systems together so that all data can be used to help each system function properly. All in all, it makes completing my analysis easier and faster so i can leave sooner. Pros The logility platform works fine. Drag-and-drop the small squares to create your data pipeline in a few clicks without having to write code, great. The auto-find for my sensor logs selects the most fitting model with no need for me to tweak it for an eternity. Cons It takes literally forever to load at times and hogs way too much ram. My laptop fan was screaming about 20 minutes ago. Some of the python libraries were pretty irritating to get working as well. They just won't work smoothly or easily. I miss being able to simply pull the python code direct from the tool, however they removed this feature for whatever reason.
