### "Easy access and a great portal for all things insurance!"

Overall, Availity is great. We use it daily and I like that you can chat with most payers and usually get more information that way. I really like the ease of submitting authorizations and referrals. I like that it's quick and easy to access eligibility and benefits, even if a patient is standing right in front of you. It outlines them fairly easy to read. This is a great portal compared to others and I really enjoy using it.

Pros

Availity is a great portal, for the most part. I like how easy it is to access eligibility and benefits, claims, referrals and even submit prior auth.

Cons

I am not a fan of creating a new password, what feels like every two months, but it is good to have extra protection I suppose. I also don't like that with Aetna, we cannot access acupuncture benefits and always have to call. They tell us to refer to the portal on the phone but how are we supposed to when the information is lacking.

My experience with Availity is overall very good. There are things they can work on (making it easier to get to certain portals), but I think there is more good than bad with this site.

Pros

Intuitive dashboard that changes as you use features. Very user friendly, customer service is very easy to reach via chat.

Cons

The worst part of using Availity is having to clear my cache and cookies every time I access the BCBS portal from their site. If I access it more than 3 times in one day, it glitches and I have to clear everything out to use it.

Overall I am highly satisfied with Availity and I am usually able to use all of my self-service tools to complete my tasks. This allows me to not spend a long time on the phone with Customer Service.

Pros

I like that I am able to access several Insurance Companies portals in on one platform, as I am using it for Billing/Claims/Eligibility for our clients.

Cons

Not all functions are available for all Lines of Business. It is limited in the area of Pre-Authorizations and I am unable to view Authorizations for several lines of Business at this time.

called for assistance in modifying a newly created team member log in first rep \[sensitive content hidden\] had no idea how to assist -wasted 20 min then transf me to \[sensitive content hidden\] - gave my info and explained problem and she went to put me on hold and I asked if she had training to assist and I just wasted 20 min with first rep and I was told I was being UNPROFESSIONAL! I tried to explain it is a valid question to ask any rep before beginning if I am in the correct dept and area and she cut me off and was condescending and rude to me as the client - terrible!

Pros

short hold time and calls get through to a live person quickly quick caller validation and easy access to log in

Cons

first responder team is not adequately trained and tries to assist but in the end wastes the callers time - need to escalate the call quicker if support does not know what to do

Always glitching: Won't show up all DXs listed, wrong specialists address, glitching w/PCP details, BCBS server down these past days and unacceptable waiting time to speak with a representative to assist fixed their website mess.

The ease of having most of my insurance providers all in one spot. Its a one stop shop for everything from EOB's to prior authorizations.

Cons

If the site is down then I can't do job. I'm on Availity everyday, multiple times a day. This doesn't happen very often.

Generally, I have been satisfied that they are always up and running. But as an amateur biller, it can be daunting to figure some things out. They have a lot of tutorials, however.

Pros

Generally, as a non-professional biller, I can bill fairly easily.

Cons

Hard to get questions answered by real person. After submitting claims, I can only see limited data, so if the claim does not go through at insurance company, I can’t review it readily.

Honestly I have mixed feelings about using this the way we currently are because of all the problems we have had, and at times, still continue to have. Our account manager has been great working to correct these but I do not think their setup and implementation teams do a very thorough job or we wouldn't be still having issues we are cleaning up from switching.

Pros

I like that the program is easy to use, correct claims, and get payments off of. It makes it nice having one program that functions as a full clearinghouse for claims. Their customer service and account managers are great to work with as well!

Cons

That claims do not stay in there longer than 5 days, EDI setups are not always completed, and payment remits are frequently missing from the listings.

Availity has increased productivity and efficiency in the office as a major time saver. In most cases, Availity has replaced the need to call insurance companies and deal with long hold times, inaccurate information, and miscommunication with insurance representatives.

Pros

Availity is a game changer when it comes to checking general patient health insurance policy benefits/eligibility. Phone calls to insurance companies can take up to an hour so the fact that Availity is capable of pulling up the same information in less than a minute is incredibly valuable. Furthermore, when I have compared the information generated through Availity to the details verbally given over the phone by an insurance representative, there is basically no difference. There have been a few times that Availity has provided even more accurate policy data than the live reps! The interface is easy to use and there are multiple ways to pull up a patient's health plan, so even if you don't have the exact ID number, you can use name, DOB, etc. and usually find the patient. Availity is really easy to use and has been a great tool for my practice.

Cons

There is a feature on Availity that allows you to pull up the actual image of a patient's insurance card, which is really great. It usually doesn't work, however. It would be great if this tool was fully functional and could bring up the ID itself. There are a few major insurance companies that aren't available via Availity, so we end up needing to call for those patients.

My overall experience is that life was better before Availity. BCBS of TN and Humana had PERFECT websites, now I have issues all the time with Availity. I can't even get benefits for Aetna and Availity seems uninterested to help. Overall I absolutely wish Availity would disappear.

Pros

Nothing, there is no positive to Availity since we had to use them. Nothing at all.

Cons

Constantly having intermittent issues (system always down) and constantly changing platform. Most recently they made looking up benefits more difficult than before.

Availity has been useful in our claims management. It is set-up to check eligibility and claim status. The remittance viewer is also very helpful.

Cons

No all insurances are linked with Availity. Also, it took me some time to set it up as there are a lot of insurance companies that we have to set-up.

I've used Availity for many years as a practicing health care provider and later as the owner/manager of a medical billing company. They've added a tremendous number of insurance companies over the past 3 years in particular and I suspect we'll find that as Availity builds out their back end product many more smaller insurance companies will turn to Availity. Unfortunately the data presented is only as good as what the insurance companies provide so in many cases Availity can't replace a phone call.

Pros

Access to a large number of insurance companies eligibility and benefit information. Integrated claims review/status system. Preauthorization system works well. They listen to their users requests and feedback. They revamped one module to make it "responsive" and made it harder, not easier to use. They listened and rather than rolling back the changes, incorporated them in a new version.

Cons

The different modules could fit/work together better. (although I will admit they are making improvements). Their system doesn't handle many different tax IDs/providers well and has the platform has grown, the red tape and "authorization" bloat makes it difficult/time consuming for 3rd party billers. As a daily user, I'm frustrated with the amount of "white space" between entry fields which requires alot of scrolling. I also am not fond of their new EOB format. It is consistent between carrier and is not print friendly.

Pros

If the EOB shows up, it's fairly easy to use. IF!! being the operative word. Also entering a claim through Availity is fairly simple, but it'll do you little good because you won't be able to find it after

I think that Availity is an anathema to the healthcare industry and is the epitome of cheap and thoughtless provider portals I have ever used.

Pros

I abhor Availity. it is the worst provider portal I have ever used.

Cons

I have no idea how this Availity has gotten as many positive reviews as it has. Out of all of the insurance portals I have ever used it is the one that requires the most extra steps and gives you the least amount of information.Instead of just being able to search for a members information with their ID you have to put in their date of birth as well.Their denials hardly show what the denial was for and so you have to spend a ton of extra time calling and trying to get information from them.

### "Could be Much Better, if they cared"

Just today, it tells me I have 1 business to verify and update the info for the quarter. But, the business is not listed. So, I try to add the business and its says I can't do it because its already listed. What the?1? This is a portal for many different insurances, which is great, in concept. But, each internal portal for the insurances operates a little differently. For example, one Blue Cross you search claims by group tax id. A different one forces you to search by individual provider NPI. And, don't get me started on Availity customer service. The rep with ALWAYS tell you they don't have an answer and it must be an issue with the insurance. It is never a problem with Availity. We are on the Availity platform, so they should help with the answer. So, what's the provider to do?

Pros

Free. Claims status. Secure email and chat.

Cons

customer service is very bad. I don't like it that each insurance can create its own rules. Availity should insist on consistency.

I give it "Extremely likely" to recommend this product to others because some insurance companies will only deal with you through Availity. You just have no other choice. If that were not the case, I would still give it a 7.

Pros

I like that I have access to eligibility and claim status for multiple insurance companies in one place. Some of the companies even let you manage your prior auth/referrals through Availity.

Cons

Sometimes Availity fights with me horribly. I would like to be able to use our billing NPI to check the status of claims for all insurance companies, but most require the provider's NPI and that is just more difficult. Also, a few of our newer provider's NPIs are not loaded so I can't check their claim status at all. That is frustrating because some insurance companies won't give you claim status over the phone.

### "Everything in one Place"

Availity has navigated me through the process and it seems to be self explanatory. I have never needed customer service and it allows you to update your provider through the system by sending reminders and even shows you in the announcement section. The experience is a good one and I would recommend this to anyone.

Pros

I love this software. Availity is easy to navigate and answers all of your questions under one roof. It is very easy to use and has limited hangups. You can find EOBs, Patient insurance information, documents, informational documents, announcements, and corrections to the facility in which you are registered. There are many ways to find your patients information and if claims were paid. Although we haven't extended out to all of the payors, the ones we do have on file and within the pay spacers, we can find them all. The information is easy to print for patient folders and everything is up to date.

Cons

I have problems often logging in, not because the system can't find me but because when you hit the log in button, it will hesitate or you will have to hit it a couple of times for the system to log in. That is really the only issue I've had with the system.

### "Good for Some things, not so good for important stuff"

Generally ok, it does about 1/2 of the things I need, really well, and the other 1/2 is practically impossible. I can easily locate a patient for a benefit check, but, instead of having a past claims identifier from the same place where I just found the patient, I have to start a brand new search that rarely finds the patient or the DOS I'm looking for. It simply doesn't locate the person, even though I just found them for the benefit check! Also, I would greatly appreciate a distinction between Regence, Premera, and BCBS billing procedures as all three are found through the Availity benefit portal, but they are not distinguished from each-other and that can cause confusion as to what insurance I should bill for chiropractic procedures.

Relatively easy benefit checks and good looking portal

Cons

locating detail of past claims is difficult at best, and non-existent most of the time

Over all, Availity is a huge time saver - because it prevents you from having to sit on the phone for hours with Insurance companies. You have all the information you need right there at your fingertips!

Pros

Availity is a huge time saver for people who work in the medical field. It allows you real time access to most of the medical and dental payers out there, so you can check claims, eligibility and authorizations.

Cons

The only issue I have with Availity is the customer service - which definitely has room for improvement.

Very poor. Very poor. Very poor. The sad part is the insurance companies make us use it particularly BCBS and they have no idea how horrible it is.

Pros

Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Because there is always an issue with something.

Cons

Constantly down for certain insurance companies. Always an issue with our account. Customer service is...well there is none and in order to get any you have to complain. For example I opened a ticket for an issue and was met with a reply a few days later that due to high volume of tickets (meaning they have tons of issues) they couldn't help me. I replied letting them know that is terrible customer service and once I did that I got a reply the next day.

LONG wait times 25-50 mins to get a customer service person on the phone. VArying advice once you get someone., Multiple calls to try and get something done. Website often down or not working properly, with very slow access or crashing.This is our only way to access claim info for BCBS, and it is a non starterI am now paying for 'advanced access' and it still is terrible.

Pros

being able to research eligibility and SOME claims

Cons

locked out of site, 2 factor authentication not working by phone, cannot get customer service to fix my login despite 4 calls all lasting 40-50 mins.

Reason for choosing Availity

I don't have an option, BCBS dictates this is the only way we can access the claims.
