March 23, 2022 4.0 I used to love Availity and it's amazing ease of use and the complete information it provided. Not any more. I get that changes come with a learning curve - what I don't get is why this change comes with such inconvenience for end users. Pros Until this Monday I really enjoyed using Availity for the eligibility and benefit look up I spend my day doing. Cons The changes that were made to search eligibility and benefits have created, what used to be a very convenient process, a totally inconvenient task. I'm not understanding why I have to continually re-enter information with each search I do (ie: type of Benefit/Service type - provider NPI - place of service). That info went in once and stayed in with the previous version. It also doesn't list the history of all searches in one place. Anthem seems to have stayed as it was but all other companies are suffering the update. Which is also much harder to navigate. Review Source Rebekah R. Pros What I like most about this software is that you are able to look up insurance for anyone. It gives you details that you need for the service that you are providing without having to always call the insurance themselves to get the information you need. Cons What I like least about this product is that if you are looking for specific details about a service sometimes it does not give you what you need. Pros I am able to access Availity and find out the status of claims or check eligibility without having to go through the steps of calling in and waiting on hold. This saves so much time on a daily basis. Cons I can't look up a client by name and birth date without the insurance number. This can pose a problem if numbers were inverted. This is a small problem that is usually solved by bringing up the insurance card and double checking. Review Source QM Quyen M. It is an awful site that does not try to do customer service or fix their problem. They try to close your tickets before it is resolved and when you tell them there is an issue. They tell you there is no issue.For instance, trying file a dispute on a claim and there is no Dispute option. I get this a lot and they tell me "there is no problem... You can file dispute...It has been resolved..." I still have the same problem after they say these things. Pros You can go to Eligibility to claims...most of the time. Cons There is a long list. A lot of times you cannot pick options like the secured message, disputes, etc. on claims. Then when you try contact their support team/customer service.They do not try to help you resolve your issues and they close your tickets before it is even solved. I spent over a week trying to explain to them things like your portal supposed to shows claims and Assurance (the support says it was Assurance issue) is where we send claims electronically. They have nothing to do with denials or claims that has been denied. I will stop here because I run into at least 2 or 3 issues a day for Availity. Review Source DW Debra W. Cons We were made to move from OneHealth Port to Availity, which is not as user friendly. The eligibility returns are not as detailed, most times warranting a phone call to the insurance which we all know takes precious time away from other AR functions. Availity is clunky and elementary with it's features and information return. Availity has "payer spaces" for each payer - however, 90% of each payers space is purely informational articles, etc - no links, no options to gather more information about coverage, out of pocket maximums, etc. Review Source KB Kristin B. I think for a program that has not the great reputation, its can be VERY handy! It houses a great deal of information and can save contacts from having to waste time holding for a phone call when its just a few clicks away! There are surely some improvements that can be made, for example the search feature, having to search by a few different methods in order to get to the results and it matches exactly what you were typing in is kind of a thumbs down, but it is overall a great time saving tool (when it wants to be!) Pros I am impressed with the amount of data housed and how easily it is to add new payors into your portal, or submit items for review such as authorizations or even reviewing EOR/EOBs, and claim status. Cons Sometimes you are typing in the exactly the correct items and you have to submit it 2 or 3 different ways before it "picks up what you're putting down"! I will enter the check number- search.. nothing, claims number-search..nothing, then search a date of service and billed amount and BAM! there it is, same claim number, same check number I tried in previous searches. This new upgrade is horrible!! Cons The updated version, can't find info, hardly ever works now so I have to call and be put on hold for literally hours to ask one question. Running a practice, it made life so much easier. Before we had to confirm client’s Insurance, worry about collections, remember to update insurance info with expiration dates and more when we used an older software. Availity cuts all of that out and allows you way more time to do other things instead of worry about every single detail about charging for sessions. Their customer service is also so great. We could contact them anytime and they would respond very quickly. Cons They’re slightly expensive and take it out of the payments made to you so if you aren’t taking in a lot of money, it may not be your best bet. Review Source Claire W. Pros Availity helps our office provide excellent service to patients by correctly understand their insurance plan benefits as they relate to the care we provide. We are able to inform patients on financial details at the beginning of their treatment, which they appreciate very much. It negates the need for waiting hours on hold with insurance companies to verify benefits and estimate patient responsibility. Interface is pretty user friendly. They have added almost all commercial payers to the list, with exception of United Healthcare. Cons Let's face it...it VERY SELDOM works. Only about 50% of the time will it return results other than just basic benefits. The claim estimator piece is what really makes it valuable, and it "Cannot return results in real time...please try again later." This is extremely frustrating for the office staff and especially the front desk if the patient owes something more than a copay. Review Source CW Craig W. Pros This software allows us to pull real-time insurance plan coverage that is customized to our specific niche in the industry. Cons With a few smaller insurance plans (i.e. HealthChoice), we've learned the hard way that the information Availity shows is consistently incorrect. It will show a patient has a copay, when in reality they need to meet a deductible first. Initially, it created real difficulty and embarrassment regarding patient financials. It costs our practice time and money because we can't get what we need online and have to call the insurance (like we did years ago) Pros Nothing. There is nothing good about this software. Cons Horrible software. I work with dental insurance websites every day. ALL are way better. Availity is way to big, complicated, and not functional. I find it to be the most useful insurance portal for these purposes that we have. Pros I appreciate the user friendliness of Availity, and the convenience of having so many insurances available on one website to check eligibility, claim status, records requests, etc. Some very useful insurance-specific functions have been added in the last few years that are incredibly helpful as well (ie BCBS ERM, BCBS "Reporting on Demand"). Cons Some of the insurance-specific functions can be tricky to find, but our insurance provider reps have directed us to many helpful things in the last few years. Review Source bW brandy W. " March 22, 2023 1.0 Availity played games with my termination form and refused to terminate services. Availity should be fined. Pros Not one single thing about availity is good. Cons I tried for months to terminate my monthly payment and contract. I got absolutely no help with the process. I get spam emails from "do not reply" emails about services and agreements. This Availity feels like a criminal enterprise- they care none for the customer and only about finding ways to keep charging you monthly fees. It costs $250 an hour to waste time on this $35/month charge. I hate Availity. Review Source Tina C. Cons Some of the payers you have to have the healthcare ID, it would be better if could look up by name and date of birth in cases that the patient doesn't have their insurance information with them. We love the functionality and ease of use. I don't know what we would do without it! Pros This software allows our facility which has over 60 providers and four locations to operate seamlessly! It has helped save time for the users in the office while checking people in and out. Pros I like the ease of having eligibility and claim explanation of benefits all in one place. It is easy to use and to find things. It is a staple in our office. Easy to look up all the Anthem claims and EOB's for discussion on the phone with patients. Cons I do not like it when the system is down and we can not use it. It doesn't happen very often, but it does from time to time. Saves us a lot of time that we don't have to spend on the phone. Would definitely recommend it. Pros I use availity on a weekly basis. It's extremely helpful and convenient to check insurance benefits, submit and check authorizations, claims etc. Cons The only con is that I wish more insurance companies would jump on board. Right now it's a handful on Availity and a handful on another software. Would be easier if they were all on one. Availity is the easiest to navigate. Pros Availty is really easy to use. It is nice to be able to check patient eligibility on a few types of insurances in one place. We can access benefits, eligibility, deductibles, claim history...etc. It is great Cons I wish more insurances could be added. Also, not all coverage benefit information is available.
