Parkview Homes is a multi-community hometown builder in Peterborough, Ontario that has been in business for 25 years. We sell approximately 100 homes each year, and continue to grow. As we have grown over the years, we have discovered the need for a shared location to maintain customer files and information. BuilderTREND has proven to be a very functional place to store data, documents, photos and other personalized information about our purchasers and homeowners that is used throughout the organization. This database allows site staff, office staff, decor staff and sales staff to view, manage and store useful information. Before we started using BuilderTREND, someone working on site who needed info on a customer would have to call into the office, or come in to get the necessary information. Now, on-site staff are able to access the data directly from their Blackberry or tablet. We have now been using BuilderTREND for well over a year. The implementation process was a little tedious, but fairly smooth overall. Getting staff on board with the new technology was the first hurdle; once this occurred, the rest was smooth sailing. The system has also improved over the past year, and is very easy to use. Our customers benefit from the system by having access to their documents and photos, as well as the project calendar feature. They love checking into the system to see what progress has been made on their home. Our long-distance customers, who can't regularly stop by to see the building process, particularly appreciate this feature. The staff at BuilderTREND are the best, and very supportive in assisting us throughout the process.

Pros

Buildertrend offers a comprehensive platform for us as a general contractor to communicate with our clients, sub contractors and suppliers.

Cons

random minor bugs that my sub contractors face when trying to find documents for projects, but yet are available on my end.

Any small builder looking to up their company operations and their client interface should consider. We continue to grow with COCONSTRUCT and have dedicated a staff member to giving weekly classes to our team on better practices with the system.

Pros

The tracking of our projects with all divisions of the company. The ability for the client to participate in many areas creates an environment that is healthy for both parties in the transaction. Gives them true clarity to what is and is going to happen on their project.

Cons

Lack of all access on tablets or phones. We are wanting our field guys to have tablets instead of laptops but everyone claims limited function.

Pros

This program really helps me stay on top of tasks and everyone else's tasks as well. It helps me meet deadlines and track everything.

Cons

The only thing that interferes with my working on Builder Trend is when Builder Trend is working on the actual site. Sometimes it runs slow or the site drops. This does not happen for long periods of time but would be nice if Builder Trend could do this after most business hours.

The communication between the office and the field is greatly enhanced.

Pros

I can put all of the job information in the app and make it available to the parties that I choose. Changes can be made in real time and notifications sent immediately.

Cons

Can't think of any, but I need a minimum of 40 characters...

Reason for choosing Buildertrend

Procore appeared to be a larger tool that what we needed and I felt I would be paying for a lot of stuff we wouldn't or couldn't use. Buildertrend seemed to be a cost effective option for what we needed and it has proved to be so.

Great product, even better service.

Pros

Customer service is by far the best ive dealt with in my lifetime. The software, just the core so far is amazing. Very powerful. The GPS time clock feature is my favourite

Cons

The cost, and that it does not handle anything to do with tax (on a proposal, estimate or invoice)

We are able to realize cost savings by communicating with subs while they are on the job or before they get there, making sure they have the correct tools/materials, to handle changes from the original contract.

Pros

I am able to communicate to our full team in one message, notifying them immediately of results, necessary changes, etc.

Cons

Sometimes it's hard to tell if you saved a comment in daily logs, the same dialogue bow pops up after you save it.

Keep up the good work and great customer service so far. Part of why I moved forward with this program is because of customer rep who did a great job and KBIS demonstrating the product and discussing the possibilities.

Pros

I like the ease of use and simplicity. I don't like spending a ton of time with the infrastructure and getting it to work. I just need tools that work so I can focus on the content of my own projects.

Cons

I think additional consideration needs to be given about products. Allow me to enter in products, just like you would in a database, and each product would have customizable attributes. I could then in turn include those in my estimates, bids, PO's quickly and easily. Even though I am a custom home builder we often use the same grouping of products through each project. Allow me to save products in the system. Oh yeah, Can I have this in April 2019? I am going to just keep typing this in all my reviews until I get it! LOL

Not completely sold that CoConstruct follows through on promises. Communicating information to others need improving. It helps me be more productive and able to communicate on the spot by having the information with me at all times. But there needs to be away for everyone to see more for themselves or have the ability to print and send schedules change orders and tasks easier.

Pros

The ability to communicate quickly while on the job or talking on the phone is nice. If you want to print and/or send something in CoConstruct forget it.

Cons

Reports are far from being as good of quality as what I previously used. The fact that I can not customize and preset document such as proposals, schedules and change orders. These are valuable documents for any project and not have away to preset them and sent to someone else needs to change! My trade partners are used to me sending the entire schedule to them so they know the whole story. This is important. Taking screen shots is NOT OK.

Pros

Its many features, its flexibility, the fantastic customer support, and the responsiveness of the BuilderTrend team to customer requests for upgrades and improvements.

Cons

It is complicated, but worth plodding through because it has to be complicated to have all the features. And, again, the customer support is outstanding, so that makes it easy to get through all the details.

My favorite items were the to-do lists linked to schedule items, and the Gantt chart capabilities. But that being said, if all I'm using this program for is those things, I can find a much cheaper option to just give me a nice Gantt/to do lists.

Pros

It has an amazing amount of detail in terms of tasks that it can take care of automatically. There is so much functionality that I never used, but I could tell this is set up to handle about anything and everything you could throw at it.

Cons

My operations are too small for BuilderTrend - it would take me more time and effort to train my subs on how to use this than is worth it. And I am confident many of them will never acclimate to it. I see this product having more success where all the users (administrators and subs/vendors) are computer literate and speak English well. Most of my subs had trouble learning and sticking to the software. Only a couple of them used it consistently and correctly.

Pros

Since starting with Builder Trend 3 years ago they have grown their CRM out to include 95% of what we needed as a construction company in the restoration business and they are continually implementing new ideas to make our business better.

Cons

The only thing I can think of right now that I would like Builder Trend to integrate workflow and automated email communication.

Overall, quite positive.

Pros

I find the program very easy to learn/use and it's mostly accurate with the exception of a few reports.

Cons

I wish we could link a customers account to more than one job instead of having to enter the customer all over again. I called customer support about this but couldn't get an answer on whether this was possible or not. Also, when I run the Lead status reports, the lead #'s don't always match what we've entered in BT. Wondering if this is because sometimes we enter the lead under more than one source?

We've been using BuilderTrend at our company for over two years. It has proven to be a critical part of our business management. We are a subcontractor, and BuilderTrend allows us unmatched functionality in keeping our primary contractors updated on their projects. Prior to BuilderTrend, we were using spreadsheets to organize our jobs, and were fielding multiple calls per day from a dozen different primary contractors on basic information. All that is now at everyone's fingertips, any time, anywhere. BuilderTrend was relatively new when we started using it at Software Advice's recommendation - and we have seen a lot of added features and improvements since then, some specifically at our request! They are always very responsive to concerns and all their customer service interactions have been excellent. I highly recommend anyone in project management taking a look at BuilderTrend!

Pros

The accessibility of BuilderTrend on mobile, ease of use for new clients, and now the ability to invoice and take payments in the field are only SOME of my favorite features!

Cons

At one point, we were thinking of finding a new system because we really needed a specific function for handing off tasks. It turns out, BuilderTrend had this functionality already and I didn't even know it!

Pros

Allows Project Managers to upload photos and keep everyone informed on daily logs. Homeowner's are kept informed!

Cons

There was just an update to the lead sheet that we print out for the salesman, but it is now on two pages with a lot of blank space. Seems wasteful and us girls in the office liked it the way it was before. It will be more helpful when BuilderTrend is linked to quickbooks.

Pros

Best feature is the ability to interface with 3rd party software - example Buildertrend with QuickBooks. Function works amazingly well and any glitches encountered are easily resolved. Another Pro would be the ability for homeowners to monitor the progress of their home building - unfortunately this feature is only as good as the construction progress inputs

Cons

Homeowners often misunderstand the information shared with them - there needs to be additional checks and balances so homeowners are not misled or confused. Example - AR balances - customers are often confused between billed AR and paid AR.

Employees can enter their time, notes, pictures, etc. which does not require an administrative person and the inherent costs associated with that person.

Pros

Integration to QuickBooks online; pricing for number of users; adaptability to our specialized usage; great training and support included in price

As a small custom home builder, one of the biggest challenges of getting a project started was getting my clients through the selection process and tracking all communications and changes. Co-construct has made this process much easier by allowing my clients to see all of their options and how they affect their budget. They can make their choices on the selections page, and there is no confusion or miscommunication as to what they picked. I also like the fact that any questions or comments about a particular selection item can be made in the selection page. For example, if my client has a question about an appliance package, all communication about the appliances shows up right in the selection. I don't have to dig through a hundred emails to find the last comment. When I signed up with Co-construct, I also wanted to try out one of their leading competitor's programs, and signed up with them as well. After training for and using both programs I found that Co-construct was by far the better program. It had better features and was much easier for me and my clients to use. Some of the features in the competitor's program were almost unusable. I couldn't add sales tax or a percentage-based contractor fee to the budget, and my client could not make a comment in the selections unless I initiated the conversation in that selection. I also ended up in a contract with the other company that I had to buy out . The support and training are also much better in Co-construct. They have been very helpful, and if you don't want to call or email them they have a vast library of help topics and very detailed tutorial videos.

We like that all of our job information is in one place where everyone can see it real time. Communication has become better.

Cons

it is not easy to use on the phone at all. Documents never load. I think we would use it more if we had the time to load all of the information we need to add to it.

I have come to the conclusion that Co-Construct is NOT a piece of software; Co-Construct is a comprehensive, enterprise-wide, process solution. Our business is crazy busy which lead us to react to every situation without the time to manage situations in advance. Of course, that leads to customer dissatisfaction, money leaking through the cracks, Superintendents without clear specifications, thus many re-works (read $$$). Co-Construct is in the process of quieting that all down. It has caused us to think through the Co-Construct implementation and the all the processes and procedures surrounding each customer home. EUREKA!

Pros

All-encompassing systemic approach that positively impacts the entire business and the entire construction process.

Cons

It is complex and takes a hero/believer in the company to be the the one Co-Construct voice. The setup can be intimidating and time consuming. I think so people become overwhelmed and just don't use it. I'd suggest "Co-Construct Implementer's" to work with each business during the set up process - if for no other reason that to keep the builder motivated.
