August 16, 2016 5.0 Pros I love the collaborative feel of the product. Our clients enjoy using it and being able to reach us via co-construct without worrying that we may miss the message in the en-masse emails of everyday running a business. I also like that I can keep up to date on what we need on a project when my boss is out of the office. She doesn't have to wait to get back and go over the project with me - I can see all the specs/drawings through co-construct. The customer support is top notch too. I had a question and posted it to the help forum - they had an answer email for me within minutes! Cons I would love to see even more functionality in the app! We've had some user issues on the client side, but I think that is a generational learning gap more than an actual software flaw. The program is very helpful, functional, and useful for our day-to-day interactions with our Trades, Suppliers, Staff and of course our Customers. At first our goal was to have a web-based scheduling program, and we implemented one aspect of Co-construct at a time. However, we quickly learned that Co-construct is so much more than just scheduling. We also use the program to assist in our budget/estimating and tracking of features, as well as communication with our clients. The to-do list function is very appropriate for our Punch List items. We also use it to communicate any change orders, color selections, and specification items with our trades and vendors. Our customers that live far away love having access to us immediately and this has resulted in extremely high Avid Customer Satisfaction scores as a result of implementing the use of this program. This one program replaces so many different emails, programs, fax machines. It has helped our company become more streamlined and efficient and has reduced our paper production immensely. Pros We really liked the idea of builder trend. It has bidding technology that allows you to get your subs to bid a project. It allows you to send proposals to clients. This is a game changer for any construction company that currently has no software in place. Cons The pricing is pretty high for what is included. We were introduced to a competitors app (coconstruct) that allows you to dig into the numbers on a price per square foot level. Overall is fairly easy to work with and the software is very friendly. It works well when all the systems are integrated but it limits your accounting to quickbooks to be fully integrated. Cons Hate the scheduling software. It's slow and clunky. They should find a way to integrateMS Project into it. The document control system is not as friendly. The emails have to be generated from the system in order to be integrated into the software so if someone direct messages and does not reply all, message is not included in string. The accounting is not part of the software, instead it relies on sync with outside software. Two years ago, when my son informed me that he had purchased the Co-Construct program, I must admit, I was somewhat skeptical and thought, oh no, another software company that promises the moon but knows nothing about the industry. Well, I am pleased to report that I was wrong and Co-construct delivered everything it promised, and more. One of my main apprehensions was, how will “older” folk, like me, accept the program? Lo and behold, our very first Co-Construct client turned out to be lady in her 70’s who took to the system like a “duck to water”. It’s been that way ever since. Our clients, as well as our sub-trades and suppliers, have praised the open communication fostered through Co-Construct via the scheduling, selections, and expenses/ approvals process. Problems with written work orders, which occurred in the past, are virtually eliminated as both the builder and client maintain an online list of approvals which automatically updates the contract amount so there are no “surprises” when the project is completed. Time will tell! Pros I can organise all my projects on the one piece of software and I can communicate with the Client, my staff and architect without having to do it 3 times. By setting up the programme of works through the calender, I can set reminders and plan when things need to be organised before I need them, resulting in less delays and more clarity for everyone. Cons I think the subcontractor/supplier interaction is clunky. Also Id like to set up material list templates for each element of a build but this function is not available. We will build build five or six houses in the coming year. The homes we build range in price from three-hundred thousand to over one million dollars. With lots of potential work on the horizon, we decided to start looking for software that will help keep us organized and efficient. After researching some different programs, we decided that we couldn't go wrong giving Co-construct a try; they don't require a contract and offer our money back if we aren't satisfied. Before Co-construct, we used spreadsheets, regular email and kept files in computer folders. Co-construct is quite simple to learn and implement. It provides video tutorials and templates help learn how to use the system. We have had Co-construct for just a few weeks, but have benefitted from their excellent communication system with clients and sub trades. It is easy to see that we will increase productivity and organization with some of the other features such as the scheduling and to-do lists that remind specific people about their tasks. We are an award winning residential renovation company that prides itself on exceptional customer service. BuilderTREND has taken our customer service to the next level. Our customers love the daily updates and the ease of use. They see what is happening on their project as it unfolds. We have customers who do not live in the same province, and are able to follow their renovations as if they were present on site. From an operational side, it has increased our speed and efficiency in multiple areas of our business. Sudden unexpected schedule changes are done quickly and with ease. Receiving a notification that our subtrades have received the changes ensures that nothing is forgotten. There is some area for improvement on the time tracking as well. Pros This product is extremely easy to use from day one and does not require a great deal of advance setup, we were up to be up and running in our company of 8 from day 1. We spent two years investigating and trying a variety of products, none of them come close to the utility and functions available in BuilderTrend. The service we receive has been exceptional from day one and the online tools, video, and help options are second to none. Cons There are very limited options for customization in terms of functionality specifically, as well as limited branding / personalization or formatting of forms (Proposals, Reports, etc.). Often, we provide a baseline budget which we save and then need to use it again to do an iteration due to design modifications to bring the project cost down. Would be nice if it could be in folders tab storage for looking up the project by name & number. Messages can be coded to be viewed by all three or a select group. It's a great place to store photographs, quotes, selections, etc. As the company Controller, I use Co-Construct to make sure items are coded correctly and are in the budget. The budget feature gives me a quick overview of this. The notes field is great to make quick notes to clients or for internal use only. I love the interaction with QuickBooks, although some functionality needs to be improved there. Pros Great tool for keeping a running tab on the budget and any revisions. Great tool to let the clients see the invoices charged to their job and to what categories. Cons Uploads estimate to QuickBooks more than one time and do not overwrite but add to. It is so slow, in fact, my Sales Manager tracks our sales using an Excel spreadsheet. I can't get any of the less tech savvy guys to use it at all. We have been in business since 2004 and have been fortunate to be growing every year, in spite of a rough economy. Due to this growth and working on more semi-custom homes, we decided we needed help on keeping track of the selections. Scheduling was becoming an issue as well. After much research, we decided to try BuilderTrend. We have been using BuilderTrend for almost a year and the best part of it is the customer service. Should we have a question related to anything on the software we can either email or call and you always get a personal response. We were concerned when we first bought the software about the customer service aspect and whether or not it would be hard to implement, but so far we have had a great experience with the program. Our subcontractors have followed suit and now we are implementing our scheduling part of the program and it is going well. It is a very flexible program in that you can customize it to match your needs. Every day I am still seeing different ways to use the program and we have become very reliant on it as well.
