New to the business, new to takeoff software (didn't even know what a "takeoff" was)...but owned a software company for many years so quite familiar with many tools (I'm a designer). PS is a great, relatively simple tool (Windows only), which I've not gotten fully the hang of quite yet, as these bids happen \*very\* fast - so not much time to putter around. Definitely recommended for estimating bids, square footage, linear footage, counts (surprisingly useful), etc.

Pros

Easy to use, not a lot of fuss, auto saves everything, relatively stable and sprite to use. Flat fee is a big plus; customer service was very good, too.

Cons

Somewhat confusing and requires industry term knowledge (but not that hard to learn). Some of the UI organization could use some work, but have seen much worse.

Used this software for two years for roofing Takeoff. It is quick and easy to perform counts and linear/area takeoffs.

Pros

easy to use, great program for take off in shingle roof and flat roof,I'm using form more than 3 years and always is easy to deal with, friendly interface.

Cons

Big files take sometimes several minutes to upload, but with patient still working good, and you need a fast computer.

Pros

The product has easy to use features that are powerful enough for anybody who just picked up the program to complete a takeoff with minimal need for training. However, as one learns more and customizes their own parts and assemblies, the advanced features available are extremely useful.

Cons

I am frustrated slightly by having to run this product on my PC instead of my Mac. I have software on my Mac (called Parallels) that allows us to run PC programs, but the way Plan Swift runs on the Parallels program is very useless.

Pros

Reliability, selection of quantity tools. Takeoffs are fast and line items have a thorough list of modifiable attributes for custom templates.

Cons

Incompatibility with network drives and cloud drives. No ability for multiple users to survey the same set of prints at the same time. Updates are few and far between, and Excel plugins are weak and dysfunctional.

I really like this product and will continue to use it as long as I remain the construction industry

Pros

Planswift is very user friendly it only took me 2 weeks get up and running, the customer / technical support is very good and they really go above and beyond to solve any issues.

Cons

I would like to see a separate labor input to make it easier to set up individual crew rates such as Foremen, Lead Tech 1, Tech 2, Tech 3

Plan Swift is pretty user friendly but to fully understand and use it to its full capacity takes quite a bit of one on one with someone who can show you all of the little toys that will make your life simpler. If you are planning on purchasing this product you need to plan on getting some extra training so that you can know where to look for all of the amazing tools this program has. You can move around in it pretty well on your own but the chances of making it profitable and useful without a pro showing you these secrets is slim to none. Unfortunately that is where you have to bite the bullet and get some pretty extensive one on one and they don't give that away.

Pros

Great product with limitless capabilities.

Cons

Count on spending a lot of extra money on training if you want to get the most out of this product.

Pros

1\. Easy to use and has a good tutorial to educate the user. 2. No Complex procedure or process in taking quantities. 3. The GUI is very user-friendly and everything is made easy to use with the mouse.

Cons

1\. Attaining 100% accuracy in quantities is impossible due to user error (clicking on the center of an intersection is nearly impossible). 2. Price

Pros

This product has so many pros that it would be hard to list all. Estimating a project becomes a breeze. Customer service is excellent.

Cons

Very little cons, no mac support is one and perhaps the price can be a much for some. Maybe a mobile app integration could be helpful too.

I highly recommend this program

Pros

I like how easy it is to take a photo or a drawing and make it into an estimate. I run a exterior company specializing in the exterior of buildings with 50+ employees. This leaves me little time for estimating but with this program estimating is quick and easy. I would recommend this program all day long.

Pros

It is easy to use and intuitive software. There are nice and helpful YouTube videos to help you learn more things about the software if needed.

Cons

Customer service was not very helpful for me. There was an update that crashed my computer. When I finally reached someone, after 30 minutes on hold, they basically told me that I was SOL.

Pros

The ease of use making it easy to train someone how to use the program. Accurate and simple to get the info you need in order to bid a job.

Cons

cant print, always got to use the " print current view" in pdf format. When you are bidding a job that has plenty of sheets, it takes a lot of time doing this to each and every single page.

if you are till doing stakeoff by hand you better try this one, you will not regrate this.

Pros

\-save time, If you ever did takeoff using any software or by hand, you understand how tedious it could be, this software saves huge time. - can be work with pdf, most of the site drawings only available in pdf i was hard to do a takeoff from it. now it's easy.

Cons

\- hard to customize, if want to make some changes by coding some plugin probably hard. - if you want to own it for personal use the price is expansive

Trial run needs longer time.

Pros

Used the planswift trial first. Pretty easy at first, started getting more complicated when more work come in. But the customer service reps to help when needed.

Cons

I believe the price is a little to high for this program, but they do work around the prices if possible.

Pros

User friendly and best bang for your buck. Even the estimators (old timers:) that were stuck on paper drawings for years can make the switch without issue.

Cons

Customer service could be better. When you call for support 9 times out of 10 they will take your number and have a tech call back. I prefer to speak to someone as soon as I call in but maybe that's just me.

Pros

Planswift is fast and easy where it helps you pinpoint what you need in a takeoff with accuracy. The ability to do single click takeoffs is amazing also.

Cons

The customer support, would like that someone will be able to help me with my problem instead of having a ticket number and wait for someone to reach out to me.

I've used several different constructions estimating programs over the years, and I feel that PlanSwift is the most comprehensive piece of estimating software that I have ever used. I save hours on every project, compared to most programs I have used in the past. Now, I am able to get more projects done, with much more detail and control over the takeoff data.

Pros

The ability to customize parts and assemblies allows the ability to estimate multiple items from a single measurement. ie., you can figure metal track, studs, screws, drywall, joint compound, insulation, and labor from a single linear measurement.

Cons

There is a bit of a learning curve if you want to create and customize parts and assemblies.

Good take off features- easy to use for basic takeoffs-

Cons

The big sell for us is the comparative overlay- When you receive revised drawings- it will overlay them- and show you in one color what is new, another color what was taken away and everything that remained the same is black. Awesome idea! It rarely works. They know the software is built with out enough capacity- Filing a bug form- they categorize it as minor severity that doesn't require change... It doesn't work- They offered my money back- I don't want my money back, I want it to work the way they sold it to me. They replied they are working to update it "sometime in the future."

Crashes all the time. Have to change pdf plans to tiff format in low resolution. MEP trades have very little features. Cannot print out quantity list on a per plan page basis, only total count for all plan pages. Not user friendly program, unless you know how to write computer programs.

I use to have BluBeam Revu and it was ok for just the takeoff portion. After checking out PlanSwift, there is NO WAY you could get me to use anything else. The ease of the takeoff program, and being able to markup the plans in a way that can translate to my installers, is worth the money alone. Then take in a count that there is a YouTube video for training on any problem that may come up, and I don't have to sit on the phone with anyone, is very helpful and time saving. I have only scratched the surface of the program and it is more than I could ask for.

Pros

The ease of the takeoff portion

Cons

There is quite a bit of data entry that I have really procrastinated in doing, but the program still accomplishes what I need

Provides ease of use coupled with a logical process and has a nice simple interface that can be color coded for different products.

Cons

New revision plans entered into the existing job have scaling issues with old revision plans, this causes issues for us as we often do multiple revisions.
