It has allowed us to turn estimates around in a shorter time frame and with greater accuracy. We are also very happy with the flexibility in the reporting structure allowing us to customize the reports quickly and easily to meet the job specific needs. Cons I would like to see an app developed for the iPad or tablet so that estimates can be assembled or updated on the fly in the field. I also use it to highlight areas on the plan to show subcontractors clearly where their area of scope is. Pros It makes taking off go much more quickly than measuring and scaling from a paper plan set. It's pretty accurate as far as scaling from a PDF file. I like that it saves automatically. Cons I don't use the other features that come along with this product- i.e. the reports, links to dollar amounts for estimating, etc. We build custom homes and they are all too different to set to a value template. Best value for money. Free 14 day trial so you can really get a feel for it. Cons Modifying items or creating new items is quite involved. Estimator / Designer Design Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Great Product at an affordable price" October 21, 2016 4.0 As a freelance lumber estimator, I was looking for a on screen estimating program that had the flexibility to tune to my customers style of reports. With this product, I was able to establish templates for my larger customers and provide a list tuned for them. It has virtually eliminated the need for me to print plans and work on them the "old fashioned" way. Great product, great service. Pros The ease and flexibility to manipulate electronic plans - overlays, templates, etc. Cons I would personally like the resolution to be higher when I import - I can achieve a higher resolution - it just costs in memory and screen regeneration. Pros PlanSwift is very functional, easy to learn and, best of all, it’s affordable. We had a good experience with the helpful support team, so we would recommend trying it out! Cons There are setbacks to the software in terms of uploading specific file types...this proves a challenge and increases the chance of an oversight in the bid. The reason we decided on PlanSwift was because we already had chosen a software to use for our accounting and purchasing side and we needed something that would make takeoffs easier for us to do. This has a lot of features that make it easy to double check estimates of subcontractors and help us budget for upcoming projects. Pros Easy to use. Has a very intuitive format and the customer service is easy to work with. I can get a rough estimate very very quickly. Cons Has a hard time loading and performing properly sometimes. Owner Construction Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Horrible support and after sales" December 2, 2016 1.0 I was very clear when purchasing this that I have mac products which they said wouldn't be a problem. After realizing that it wouldn't work with them I called them to get support and they said it doesn't work on macs and I have to download another program which they wouldn't tell me or help me do. Once I called my support person they said they would have someone call me and nobody ever has or returned my calls since. I asked for my money back and he said he would get back to me as well and not 1 call or email returned. I do not recommend them at all. Very disappointed. This has been going on for 3 months now. I use it on almost all my jobs that have drawings to do my takeoff. It is very intuitive to use above and beyond all the competitors. And I have tried them all. Very fair price compared to other companies. Con: Chat room never gets answered when trying online chat. Especially since they were purchased. October 25, 2018 5.0 I've been using this software for over 6 years now (back at version 8.0). I have customized the export to excel and created a fully automatic system where I use PlanSwift for the super fast take off features, then export it into my customized excel worksheet which makes everything instantly calculated the way I want it with instant and automatic reports (material order / P.O., field labor budget for the workers in the field, accounting report, financial evaluation of the bid... etc. ALL others will not allow me to do the same. PlanSwift stands alone in the BEST option. Pros Easy to learn. Dead on accurate. Super easy to navigate. Also... you can learn how to customize PlanSwift to give you the Export into Excel anyway you would like. No limitations. No other software has this feature. PRICE: Seems high but remember... this is a ONE TIME PURCHASE (no annual fees). Saves a TON of money compared to others who charge an up front fee PLUS their annual fee . Cons I can't find anything wrong with this software. Everything others lack, PlanSwift has it included. Again... I haven't found another digital takeoff software that even comes close. However, I wish that when using a condition (linear, area, count, etc.) it would let you continue with that condition instead of only being able to do a few areas and then the cursor return to click mode. I also wish there were more training videos so I could begin to use the estimating software within PlanSwift. I love that is a cheaper software and does just as much as its competitors like On-center for a fraction of the price. Pros Ease of use, price. Cons This product has multiple errors in the way it reports data. The support people are more likely to argue that to fix. December 5, 2016 4.0 I use Planswift on a daily basis to do take-offs for roofing estimates and jobs and it works great. I sincerely could not image doing my job without it. All the features make doing a complete take-off straight forward and easy. Jobs are easy to review. Pros All the take-off tools: linear, area, overlay... There are also multiple tools I haven't used yet for estimating and templates. Cons The facts that I haven't been able to set it so the "database" is on DropBox so all the take-offs are available and share to multiple users. Review Source CS Chet S. She prepares the takeoff/estimating sheet for me and I put the numbers on it. She seems to like it okay, but does get frustrated when she cannot figure out how to use some of the features it has. I cannot afford for her to be out of the office, so I cannot send her to the class Planswift offers in Utah. She had no training but has figured out how to use on her own. I found everything I needed at the touch of the mouse. The plan download is as easy as it gets. Cons The plugin is separate from the basic kit. I also like how it ties in to Plasma and saves me many additional steps Cons No way to do a keyword search once specs are pulled in to planswift.
