We don't have the option to not use Dollars on the Net/Shift4 as our POS system requires them if we want to process CC transactions through our POS Terminals. That being said, I don't mind them and they're very easy to use and actually make tracking down individual transactions super easy if we needed to. Overall, I've been happy with them, but was just a little put off when they more than doubled our prices.

Pros

It is very easy to use and I have no issues batching out our transactions.

Cons

My only complaint is they more than doubled their prices when they started to offer their own processing services, and will only lower/waive their gateway fees if you use them (which I feel is a little scammy).

### "Stay away from shift4"

Horrible. 0 out of 10 lie lie lie. This is a big company that purposely tells u something and then has fine print to contradict what they say.

Pros

You can rent the equipment but it’s still garbage. You have to send it back or update it all the time. They will lie to you about that also!

Cons

Where do I start. This light be one of the worst companies I’ve ever dealt with. Customer service is horrible. They will lie to you. They will tell you things to get you off the phone and to sell you the products. The window to cancel is literally 30 days. The software is garbage. They try to be toast but it’s half ass. They have so many different websites to get information for your software and data you don’t know where to go. They didn’t have a setting turned on that cost me $22,000. There were at least 3 other local restaurants that had the same issue. Then they blamed us for not knowing, even though they admitted we weren’t onboarded properly. The equipment is junk. It’s always going down and having to be replaced. The updated come in and then you have to call for them to fix the update. Stay away. Couldn’t be a worse company.

Absolutely nothing. The entire customer experience from start to finish was rough and we're in dispute.

Cons

Our experience with Shift4 / Lighthouse has been nothing short of a nightmare, and we want to warn other businesses before they fall into the same trap. They lure you in with the promise of free terminal software, but they deliberately conceal the monthly fees and the fact that they will lock you into unfair, hidden contract terms buried in fine print. When we attempted to transition away from their service, they refused to honor the time we had already spent on the platform and claimed the agreement auto-renewed—despite us having the equipment for over a year. We’ve documented over 30 instances where we had to call in, escalate to senior managers, and yet never received resolution. Cases were marked as “resolved” automatically after five days, even though nothing had been fixed or explained. In May, we were told the account was closed—only to be charged again illegally afterward. We explicitly informed them they were not authorized to bill our account and were forced to issue a STOP Payment order with our bank. Shift4 then deliberately circumvented this block by using alternate business names to attempt to process payments—a blatant act of fraud. To make matters worse, they never provided statements or explanations for unauthorized fees, including a $500 charge no one could account for. We sent multiple formal notices by letter, email, and phone to close the account. Despite this, they continued billing us for equipment we returned. Their customer service is atrocious—you never speak to the same person twice, and no one takes ownership of your issue. We’ve been fed excuse after excuse, and this ordeal has been a massive financial and operational headache. We strongly advise all small businesses to avoid Shift4 / Lighthouse at all costs. They are a predatory company using deceptive contracts, aggressive billing practices, and borderline fraudulent behavior to trap customers. Protect your business and stay far away.

### "Do not use Shift 4"

The product is pretty solid when it was working, we went down about every other month and getting it fixed was not an easy process

Pros

It was a pretty easy system, The workflow was nice with starting tabs and I enjoyed the backend product.

Cons

The service is absolutely atrocious, we went hard down 3+ times in a 6 month period (meaning we could not process payments) each time involved over an hour on the phone to trouble shoot for them to send out a tech. Once a tech was scheduled they would show up hours late or sometimes not at all often trying to fix the system while we are operating the business. (after 6pm). The fees we agreed upon with our rep were not accurate to the actual bill and they have a clause in the contract saying they can adjust fees at any time, to any amount as long as they give a 300 day notice. They raised my annual fee of $189 to $975 this January and said that since I was in the process of cancelling they will not adjust it. Companies like this do not deserve a chance to earn your business, save the nightmare and go with toast, this company sucks!

Toast or Cloverdale are far better POS companies. It was not until we were cancelling our Shift 4 account that they tried to correct their incompetence and correct the problem. This was also the point they tried to coerce us to continue with their services by giving a $1500 credit to us. We still took the $3K buy out option, just to get rid of this awful company. STAY AWAY!

Pros

You can continue credit card processing in internet outage.

Cons

Equipment ordering and set up. Most support calls directed overseas. cancellation fees even after their incompetence.

### "Started well but nearly impossible to cancel"

Initially good but nearly impossible to cancel. Continued to charge fee after service cancelled and then charged high fee to cancel.

Pros

Pretty prompt with processing. Experience started with no issues and processing was prompt.

Cons

Extremely hard to cancel service. We cancelled service over a year ago and they continued to debt fee from our account. Was then told we could not cancel unless we paid $1,000 (which I found nowhere in the contract). Terrible problem resolution procedures.

### "Annoyed Customer"

I needed to return equipment and my town was evacuated for flooding. Shift 4 charged me $2600 for not having the equipment returned in time! They refused to refund me even though I had proof that I was unable to access the equipment to return it. Customer service was rude and very horrible to me over the phone, they showed zero compassion with my situation and would not give me extra time

Ease of use was good, I liked that the program was simple and easy to figure out

Waiting for deposits and dealing with customer service. Customer service at this company is a joke

### "Biggest Scam There Ever Was!"

We were lied to on the phone about the software, told it had capabilities that it did not. Once installed had to spend a great deal of money trying to get it to work for us, with in the end the tech support admitting it will not work for us. They are now trying to have me cancel and pay $2,400 or charge me $310 a month in no usage fees

### "Lots promised with nothing delivered"

Poor customer service with bad technology for transacting in the hotel industry. Look elsewhere for better reliable solutions that work well. If you are a similar company or industry as DJT then check out something else. Not worth the bad integrations.

Pros

The options and connections with different applications. It seems to have its ability to grab information and connect to many sources for our CRM.

Cons

We had outages with Shift 4 and that impacted checking in guests for our hotel. DJT Properties requires the best payment processor and what we got was not up to par. It crashed on us multiple times and we had trouble with it even after they sent out technicians to fix the terminals. Even though our hotel was in DC and centrally located it took a long time for anyone to figure it out.

Horrible!!! No help from the sales rep either. He got his commission and that's all that matters to him.

Pros

Nothing, their product and customer service are terrible.

Cons

They charged $16,000 for POS hardware and it was refurbished. They never delivered the credit card terminals but insist they did. They debit $800/mo out of our checking account stating that they will discontinue the debit upon return of the card machines. We called several times and told them WE DON'T have them and "customer service " said there is nothing they can do. Now, we are in contact with the State of NJ DOBI to file a formal complaint.

### "Slick Looking but Support"

Extremely disappointed with the level of service received for our card processing. Support Staff never explained why our reporting was not accurate. Call in an issue, a support ticket would be generated, but never resolved. I don't mind paying for support and proper reporting, but when you charge customers for a service that you don't deliver on, that's just wrong. My best advice is forgo any bells and whistles Shift4 claims as their support is non existent. Turn around and look elsewhere.

Pros

I moved from IRN card processing to Shift4 with the understanding that monthly Reporting and Fees would be more transparent and easily understood. While the fees charged actually showed up in the month they were incurred, the reporting did not reflect the actual transactions.

Cons

Support could never answer or correct the reporting issue we experienced. Our accounting department spent hours each month reconciling our daily batch to their statements. Some months it was impossible, and still, no answer back on support tickets. EVER!. The icing on the cake was our new card processor could not get us installed before our 12 month contract expired, so Shift4 charged us for the entire following 12 months of support and reporting.

Started out great - to zero stars.

Pros

Easy integration into resort software when it started. Changed billing after we signed up and deducts fee per transaction - rather than a monthly fee.

Cons

Absolutely incompetent staffing. Somehow my profile was deleted in February now late August and I was admin. They can not reset me up to get our reports as we no longer have an administrator. This has been 6 months and we can not get reports.

I'm not the decision maker on software, but if it was up to me I would seek out a different solution. The Shift-4 CC recovery is time consuming, fails frequently, and overall is a pain to use. Their 6 digit/letter security box is by far the worse I've ever encountered, making "6" and "G" look identical, with very dark backgrounds. Not user friendly at all. Customer service is slow and unhelpful.

We have been customer with POS touch and Shift4 for about 10 years. When we switch to an other provider for a big improvement in hardware, reporting and so on, they never cancelled our subscription. We have been charge for 15 months in the raw. we asked them why nobody reach out to us regarding this matter, the staff was absolutely incompetent and rude. We have not recommended working with them to all our friend in Restaurant industry. The service is probably the worse possible and it's almost impossible to talk to someone, they do that on propose for you to pay

### "Not recommended for small businesses. "

I had been a customer for 12 years and put my account on vacation " Degraded status" as I was working out of town and not running my small business for 2024 but did not want to close my account. Customer service was helpful at this time and reversed some previous fees for services I was not using and put me on a basic plan and assured me there would be no additional charges. At the start of 2025 ( January 2nd) noticed a 189.00 charge on my bank account and called the next day to find out what is was for. They said that was a "SEC Security Fee for the previous year" and would do nothing to help unless I started processing again. Left feeling let down and cheated out of 189.00 that I could not afford. I do not recommend this company for a small company that is not processing a lot. I would be willing to change my review if customer service would work with me on the fee as they have been good in previous years about reversing fees for services was not using when calling in. I do not appreciate being held hostage to get reasonable customer service.

Pros

My original sales rep from 12 years ago was good when it was owned by Harbor Touch.

Cons

Surprise fees for services I was not using. Equipment fees for 15 year old equipment I had asked to be removed in previous years. Fees for statements I did not want. 189.00 Annual fee billed at the end of the year for the previous year that was unexpected, unwilling to work with me. Had to call once a year to remove services that I did not want that were automatically added back on again a few months later, Rates would creep up annually and I would have to call in and barter to get them back down.

Business owners stay away from this company. They have exuberant fees... They will charge you for equipment that they already received.

Cons

Worst credit card provider. Do not use them . I repeat do not use them. Their Sales team are best .

### "It's ok when you have no other option"

Installation was an easy task, but the transaction auditing of shift4 vs POS is impossible, they don't have good tools for it. Their customer service is terrible, we are supposed to have an "enterprise Account" but their response to our tickets is bad and when we get somebody to work with us, they seem to have lack of knowledge of their own software.

Pros

The security of the transaction being encrypted PTP, and the fact that they take care of the whole cc payment process from taking the payment, processing, authorization and batching.

Cons

Too many glitches, many transactions are going into shift4 but not back into POS so the batch auditing is crazy.

We didn't, it was forced to us by our POS because we needed to be EMV complaint.

Miserable. Don’t sign up with them ever!!

Pros

Nothing they are a horrible company just search the BBB and every other Google complaint.

Cons

They are scammers who lock you into deceitful contracts and just continually funnel your hard earned money out of your acct.

### "Misrepresentation "

Awful Shady. No escalation process is ridiculous.

Pros

Nothing. They are a misleading company. I would not use.

Cons

They hide the contract length and early termination fees for their contract via a website titled terms and conditions. No where on the agreement is any mention of contract length or fee for early termination. They also claim to have no escalation process so one person at Legal Support determines what happens. Do not us them. You will regret
