“Good choice for our church!”

OverallOverall, we're highly satisfied bringing our membership database into online world of cloud technology. Support at Shelby has been outstanding, and while some issues may not be immediately addressed (such as items which would be in an update), we're kept in the loop, and updates to address gaps and shortcomings do happen. We appreciate the online Shelby Community portal as well.
ProsThe browser based platform allows the user to drill down and open multiple screens, very useful for processing donations, confirming gifts, membership status, and updating donor info on the fly. Workflows and interactions give our pastors a road map for following up with members and prospects, whether a desire to join our church, an upcoming surgery, or other needs - no one falls through the cracks, and communication is noted. Groups makes managing and communicating with specific classes, study groups, even our elders and deacons much easier, and all our employees have the same listings. Also, we use ShelbyNext Forms extensively for event registrations and tie it in to ShelbyNext Online Giving. We can design the forms not only for the registration itself, but can include info such as food allergies, special needs, medical issues, emergency contacts, and even additional shirt purchases for children's and students' events. I would bet that our IT guru appreciates not having to update software all the time, one of the benefits of cloud software.
ConsThe most noticeable shortcoming, to me, is the inability to see who received group emails and contribution statements via email, who didn't, and which emails bounced back as invalid for whatever reason. It's impossible to get correct emails from members and prospects when you're not aware that the email you have is invalid. I understand this is being addressed, but it should be a priority. There's a learning curve to ShelbyNext Membership, although I believe there would be with any software other than basic membership management for a small organization. Both our Membership Coordinator and I are still learning nuances and new ways to handle things.

“Shelby Membership Module Overview”

OverallIt's just been good. As with any new system, there is some learning curve but, for the Membership Module, it's been a rather soft curve.
ProsIt's a really solid product overall. The best features are it's ability to easily enter, edit, combine or delete member records. The combining of duplicate records is ESPECIALLY useful. It transfers all information, including giving information, to the chosen record and misses nothing. Again, an excellent tool indeed. Plus, the entire package is just user friendly. It doesn't require indepth instruction to use and find needed information about an individual member, a group or team, and so on. Finally...the email function that allows emailing end of year giving statements is excellent.
ConsI cannot really identify a significant downside to this software package. It simply does the job in an efficient, easy fashion.

“ShelbyNext review”

OverallBenefit is the interactions section. Great to be able to record interactions with congregants right after you connect with them so that the next person who meets with them can be up to date on the situation.
ProsIt is cloud based. Our congregation can log in and edit their own record and see their own giving. The calendar, form creation, check in and email service are part of the package. I think the forms work the best of most any aspect of the system. Used to use Jot form, Constant Contact, PlanningCenter, and EMS for forms, emails, check in, and calendar. Now just one system.
ConsSo many small things that don't quite function the way we would like. None of the systems that I mentioned above : forms, calendar, email, check in - work as well as the individual systems that we used before. Forms is the closest to Jotform, but the other 3 do not function as well as the prior system we used. Too many things for me to list them all: Constant contact - we could see data regarding how many people opened our emails and quickly see who unsubscribed and whose email bounced. EMS - easier to add repeating events and still skip a week in the middle. Custodians can't seem to master the digital calendar and much prefer the printed version that was available through EMS. Check in is constantly changing. And nothing about it seems intuitive. They also don't have a "check out" options which we used in Planning Center. Many more little things that add up to a system that works OK but not great.

“Overall, the database & information it holds has been beneficial to us.”

OverallIt is a great program for database information. It is not perfect, but I don't know a program that is. Shelby Next has been very beneficial for our church, and the ability we now have to communicate with & keep track of our membership.
Pros1- We like the accessibility on mobile devices. 2- Allowing various users to have access to specific groups has been great in terms of communication & attendance. 3- Overall appearance & ability to view information have been enjoyed by our users. 4- Search tools have been very useful (except that we cannot easily report once the search is completed).
Cons1- Reporting options are very limited so the data has to be manipulated through Excel. This is not easily done by most of our users, so the burden of reporting rests on one individual. It would be nice if reports could be run right out of Shelby including the data fields the user chooses. 2- We have 'snowbirds' and the use of 2 addresses is not precise at this time. We do input addresses with corresponding dates, but the system isn't recognizing them when it reports on individuals. 3- Running a list for contribution envelopes was very simple in v5. The report in Shelby Next has to be completed by exporting a list to CSV & then manipulating data. 4- In Contributions, when we choose 'Group Giving with Family', ShelbyNext doesn't default to one report for the entire family (or couple) so contributions have to be transferred, or 2 reports are created. In Shelby v5, when this option was chosen, donations had to be inputted under the "Primary" member of the family. It didn't allow us to put it under a spouse in this situation. Again, this has required 'clean-up' on our part, which could be avoided if the program was more precise.

“Good membership management for churches that need more than just the basics”

ProsIt's entirely web-based, so it can be used anywhere. It comes with mobile apps for major mobile device platforms, so getting to data when not at a computer is easy. Creating individuals and adding them to families is simple and the UI is fairly pleasant to use. The integration with Shelby's giving/donation service works well and the software allows members to see their giving in simple, easy to view reports. Every action by staff and admins is logged for accountability purposes. Access to various parts of the system can be controlled granularly, so administrators and staff can see only what they need. For example, giving records can be limited so that only business office members can view them. The system also supports groups: public and private alike, so members can self-join public groups, but in other cases can't even see certain groups. This is helpful for organizing membership in various ways. Reporting is also fairly straightforward so staff can grab quick stats on various aspects of the membership. Reports can also be locked down according to what each staff member should be able to see.
ConsThere's no support for custom domains (e.g. "members.mychurch.com") Reporting is too simple in many cases and there's not enough customizability for the data that the system can hold (e.g. being able to generate a report on which members are missing photos). Volunteer management is still very limited / non-existent. Churches that need to see a high level view of which members are doing what should probably look elsewhere. Scheduling conflicts between various areas of ministry is not yet trackable. The calendar functionality leaves much to be desired. There's some good stuff in place around being able to request availability of rooms, equipment, etc, but it's all silo'ed into the proprietary calendaring system. There needs to be support for managing events through Google Calendar or similar external systems that might already be integrated into the ministry. There are rough spots to the UI, especially around searching, viewing member photos, and generating reports. The giving integration aspects are nice, but I wish they were more tightly integrated. I wonder how many ministries actually use a different giving solution? Overall, it would make more sense for members to be able to give from one portal rather than having a separate offering.

“Great Product ”

OverallHaving the ability to access this program without being hardwired to the database has changed everything for us. And the apps make it easy to make changes quickly and easily on the fly. Overall we are so pleased with the capability of all the faucets and Shelby Next.
ProsWe have a big church and have thousands of congregants - Shelby has allowed us to create a more personal portfolio for each of them. It's hard to know them all individually - but shelby has helped us disciple to each of them on a level that meets them where they are - because we can in real-time track their attendance, giving, small groups, classes and their prayer requests. It's revolutionized our congregational care - among many other wonderful ways it's served our church.
ConsI don't work with the financial part of the program - but I do know there were some crossover issues from the old Shelby that made the integration challenging. Although, once it was completed, it's worked seamlessly.

“Huge step up from Version 5, user friendly, but could still use a few more tweaks to make better”

OverallI would save over all it has been great. Again there are a few things I would like some help with, but I would pick this program again. I hope that it continues to improve! I would like to see a way for "notes" to be save on to a persons account or to list old phone numbers, emails, or addresses.
ProsHow user friendly it is and that it is on the cloud. I love that all of our staff can have their phones in their hands and get church members info without having to be connected to our server or at their computer. As the Administrative Assistant this has saved me SOO much time! I also like the forms - but its also the thing I think needs some work. I love being able to attach events and classes to profiles easier through the forms.
ConsThat everytime someone submits a form a new profile is made. I have called customer service about this so many times and I have never recieved a return call. I also think the calendar could use some work - Its not as user friendly as everything else. I was told that we could put the calendar on our website - but I still haven't found how to do that... and again, customer service hasn't called me back about that either.

“Very Happy With ShelbyNext”

OverallWe love that it is cloud based and accessible through our phones, laptops and tablets. Once we got through the conversion and learning curve, we all really like the functionality of Shelby!
ProsFor me the connection between Membership & Financials makes my work seemless!
ConsChanging from another software to Shelby had it's challenges but I think all conversions do! The way Shelby does not really 'track' visitors for reporting or historical purposes has also been a challenging change for us.

“Shelby Next Pros and Cons”

ProsThat it is cloud based, love the app and being able to use the software where ever I happen to be working. The overall look of the site is fresh and fairly user friendly. Easy to get around and update profiles. Check In was not an option with V-5 so that has been a nice feature. We love the ability to create forms as well, really has helped us with many events.
ConsReports!! Headers, dates, reliability of the data is really poor. V5 gave us way more options for creating and saving reports that are used regularly. The Directory feature needs work as well. Would like the pre-set configurable fields to be more flexible.

“ShelbyNext | Membership Review”

OverallShelbyNext | Membership is my "baby" at work (minus the financial keeping of Shelby). Whenever someone needs training or needs help, they come to me. I love explaining the simple and effective way either through their problem or to understand the system. Thank you for making Shelby incredibly user-friendly. This is the perfect system for church membership/record keeping. I have worked with ChurchTrac on two different levels, and they do not compare to Shelby.
ProsI love using Shelby. The ease and accessibility is user-friendly. I love the many options I have when printing reports.
ConsWe utilize the send email/text/voice option several times a week. One problem that we have run into is sending texts to our Spanish speaking ministry. Spanish involves many accent marks and symbols. An accent mark in one word can completely change the word. In the past when we have sent a mass text from the Shelby app in Spanish, it never goes through properly. There will be a "?" where there was supposed to be an accent or symbol. I have called the support number listed and talked with a representative. He had never encountered this problem and said he would call me back. I never received that call, and that's ok. I know this is a minor issue and not an immediate issue to be addressed. This would be a huge help to our ministry if there could be a Spanish option for Shelby.

“Needed items”

OverallI am between Luke warm and warm
ProsI like the connectedness between membership and the financials. This is why we went with the membership. I also like the calendar.
ConsI don't like the absence of some items. E.g. it doesn't email me when a staff member requests time off through the portal. This is not user friendly.

“The Church and Social Media Challenge”

OverallI have had a good experience when working with membership
ProsThe ease of use. If I don't know how to do something, there is a tutorial for whatever issue I'm facing. If I can't find something, I can always put in a help request. I do not feel alone and stuck when I am faced with a challenge.
ConsI struggle with the separation of financial data vs. membership data. I have to check membership once yearly and have to monitor attendance and giving status. I've not yet created a report that shows attendance and giving within one year for church members. Still a work in progress.

“I use it primarily for directory information when I'm away from the office or making home visits. ”

OverallAddresses of church members quickly when I am away from the office and a good map interphase that helps me quickly find members' homes.
ProsI find the app very easy to use and appreciate it's interface with other map programs. [It is interesting that I could not submit this survey because the comments in the "Pros" section is too short. I guess that's one way to hear what you want. I don't know what else you want me to say about your program: You use a nice font? It hasn't crashed yet?
ConsWhat I like least about the Shelby products we have is the lack of training my staff received (and told they would get) plus the long wait my staff has to endure whenever they have issues with the Shelby Membership Program and the Shelby Financial Program and call for technical help. The time spent on hold is interminable. I suspect that there are just one or two people answering the phones. Last week a staff member was on the phone with Shelby when another called and was told she was next in line. After more than thirty minutes, she finally hung up. (Interestingly, my other staff member was still on the phone talking to the Shelby Rep. I wonder if her colleague would have talked to the same rep had she remained on hold because there was only one person answering calls on a weekday? )

“Shelby Next Membership”

OverallWe've cleaned up our database during the migration from Shelby V5 and Realm, so that has been a plus. It's been easy to teach other employees how to use Shelby Next. I like that I can work from home since it's web based.
ProsI like the ease of use. It is similar enough to Shelby V5 that the learning curve was not as steep in learning the new software. I like the help sections for each area. The videos and step by steps are very helpful. Like that ShelbyNext is web based so I can work from home when needed.
ConsThe Check-in part of this software is very limited in what it does compare to what was available in Shelby V5. Configuring the printed tickets to include the information needed is not easily accomplished.

OverallOverall I am satisfied with ShelbyNext and the customer support is always available to assist us when we get in over our heads. Some of the bugs that we encountered in our first years have subsided and no longer do we see the same issues such as timing out, etc.
ProsThe overall look of it and ease . The ability to export/import transactions into excel, which cuts down on a lot of work having to re-enter

“ShelbyNext and Me”

OverallShelbynext membership help us build better relationships with our members. We have the opportunity to communicate more efficiently. We don't have to overwhelm the members with unwanted communication, we are able to be specific to each area of their individual communication needs.
ProsWhat I like most about the software is how I have contact with the participating congregation. I can contact individuals or groups through Shelbynext in a timely manner. I like that I can store notes about individual members that help me better service them.
ConsAfter two years, the thing I like least would be the self-help instructions. I think that they should be more detailed and cover more aspects of the software.

“Still needs improvement ”

OverallBetter than v5 but has room for improvement. After our initial set up, support was non existent
ProsOf the choices out there this was the best option for us because the financial piece was attached.
ConsHad to create too many basic church membership criteria. Attendance input has some glitches and there's is not a check out system for check in's.(important for Children's Ministry). Calendar has had glitches resulting in"disappearing rooms"

“ShelbyNext Membership in the real world”

OverallSame needs as most churches - need to pull out a particular demographic for some sort of correspondence. Need to get trends for attendance in various groups. Need to track a member whose attendance has slipped.
ProsI like that it is cloud based and that our data base is accessible from anywhere with an internet connection
ConsReports in SN Membership are an issue. There is SO MUCH formatting that must take place using a csv/excel report to ultimately get to the information needed. I have never liked that Contributions are a part of membership in SN. It forces us to create roles that exclude access to this feature as contribution information is held in strict confidence at our church.

“Worth the Time to Upgrade”

OverallShelbyNext Membership has been an asset to our church family: we get fewer calls in the church office asking for addresses and phone numbers; the information stays up-to-date as far as we know; pictures help church members put faces and names together; the attendance and email features allow leaders to call meetings and recognize people who are missing and may need a personal contact. Since we are able to make mass contacts and check-in children through ShelbyNext, we have eliminated the cost of additional software programs.
ProsAs a church staff member, I enjoy the fact that the Shelby Membership App puts information in church members' hands. We rarely receive phone calls asking for addresses and phone numbers which occurred frequently each day. Church members can track group attendance and set up meetings through the program as well. We enjoy the ability to make a church-wide or group-wide phone calls, texts, and emails.
ConsThe children's check-in system allows parents and guardians to add multiple records to the system, and it does not ask for mailing address information.

“Membership”

ProsEasy to navigate. Pastors can easily find information and can access the app from the their phone. Life Groups can take attendance on their phones which eliminates the need to manually input the information.
ConsWe have 3 separate Shelby softwares to perform the duties that Shelby v5 did. We use Shelby Giving, ShelbyNext Membership and ShelbyNext Financials. The systems are integrated but you have to use each of the three softwares to process offerings or add giving funds. It all works really well, just wish we didn't have to log in to 3 separate systems with 3 separate userids and passwords.

“Great Upgrade from V5”

OverallI am very satisfied with the rate of updates continually made on this product to improve the user experience.
ProsIf you are a Shelby user, currently using V5, you will love this newer version. The cloud based product is incomparable in ease of use. Our congregation loves having the church directory in an app.
ConsThe reporting is completely different from V5 and takes a while to get used to.

“Very happy with our choice...”

OverallI'm happy with it, and the training we got leading up to implementation was excellent.
ProsEase of use for the end user. Wanted something more simple than what we had before.
ConsWhat's "in the box" is what you can do. We didn't want anything as complicated as we'd had in the past, but there are a few things we wished we could tweak.

“Shelby Next Makes Our Church Run More Efficiently”

OverallIt really simplifies giving for our church, and pairs well With our website.
ProsHelps us organize our membership, visitors, attendance, and contributions. We love the mobile app for our members. Lots of great features!
ConsIt took too long to convert from our old software. Quite a bit longer, and some things were lost in the conversion.

OverallIt's okay, once you set it up. the hard part is setting everything up and making sure it works and then hoping no one can undo what you have done.
ProsI love the check in system! it is simple and easy to use

“Love SN Membership”

OverallShelby Next allows our entire staff to have access to data. This is quite useful! There are so many features with great value. I love the Group feature. So easy to create a specific list of people and then to be able to communicate with them through email, text or phone.
ProsMobile App is amazing. Even though I work at the church, I used the mobile app during off hours quite a bit. If I need a phone number or address, I love that it is right at my finger tips!
ConsData input for giving is a little cumbersome and I miss that there are no "projects" as compared to Shelby V.5.

“Excellent! Easy to learn, grasp, and train others on the program!”

OverallReduced workload. Improved systems and processes. Improved ministry workflow efficiency.
ProsThe support! I work with a CPA who works with many churches using a variety of different programs, and he agrees that Shelby's support far outweigh all the others. Sometimes the wait can be extensive but they do answer the phone and they will solve the problem. I also like the ease of use, how easy it is to learn and train others on the program. Shelby is constantly improving their program and quickly fixing any issues that may surface. I also like the way it helps to mainstream our ministry workflow, by providing a variety of tools that integrate between ministries and departments. The integration between Membership and Financials helps to reduce work and the common errors of entering data. I can't say enough, thank you all for doing such a great job!
ConsMust have a good internet connection to use the ShelbyNext Membership. We are a church out in the country that only gets 8Mb Service and you can tell when you use an online program, but this isn't Shelby's fault, however it's something to consider. Other than that it's excellent!

“Customer Support”

OverallWe have been struggling with forms created duplicate Shelby membership profiles when payments are made through online giving. Can't get a straight answer on why it happens or how to fix it.
ProsI feel Shelby Membership is user friendly, not difficult to navigate. Most features are self-explanatory.
ConsSupport. We have been trying to resolve an issue since August of 2018. I have emailed with 4 different people. The name I was given never responded to me after emailing on 10.4.18 and 11.18.18. Customer service lacks when trying to resolve 'large issues' over long periods of time. I'm disappointed not one person has bothered to take ownership of our issue and work with us to resolve it. Need more tutorials for those beyond basics.

“Good Product, but not for long term”

OverallIt has been good to use. I called to resolve an issue yesterday.....was 6 in line and waited 40 minutes to get to talk to someone. I also received an email based on my last review asking if I had any questions or how they could help. I emailed back within 2 hours....that was back in June. I have not heard back from anyone. Hoping my email went to spam and they didn't see it rather than not responding at all.
ProsEasy to use and introduce. It was not hard to train people or to get people to log in and start using
ConsCannot rely on it for history. We look at past attendance, but being in a college town people come and go. When a person is deleted from the database, we lose their attendance -- so a 5 year look at history in attendance is not accurate, so we are having to keep an Excel Spreadsheet to keep records. Frustrating. I wish there was a way that after 6 months or a year that the attendance would freeze and stay - regardless if a person moves their membership.

“Great customer service. Works really well for ministry leaders. Reports are good but limited.”

ProsMinistry leaders have easy access to member information, groups, and ability to contact them from anywhere using the mobile app or computer. Permissions are easy to customize for various groups of users (staff in different programs, volunteers, members, group leaders, etc). Data is easy to update. Features work well together to automate routine tasks--forms, workflows, online giving, etc). Phone and online support is excellent, whether it is for a quick question, a complicated problem involving multiple people and/or features, or a software fix that is necessary.
ConsWhile the canned reports are good, the options for custom reports are extremely limited in Membership. With very large groups, entering individual attendance data is frequently slow. Attendance reports for individuals in a group over time are not possible in the system. For a member in multiple related groups (we track worship attendance, with each service time/location as a separate group), it is nearly impossible to get a quick overview by individual or by group.

“ShelbyNext Membership Works for our Team”

OverallOur overall experience has been highly favorable.
ProsEase of use; our team has dramatically increased its use of the ShelbyNext Membership platform. Previously we were using Shelby v. 5 and most of our staff just went into the system to check addresses and phone numbers primarily. With the new system we have people engaged at all levels - ministry directors, ministry leaders, Pastors, etc. The ease of use if probably the single biggest factor.
ConsMore reporting features for data analysis. Would also like to have options for volunteer management - while we can set them up as groups, volunteer management is an integral part of what we do.

“Growing ChMS ”

OverallOverall they are doing alot of neat things and I am looking forward to seeing how they continue to develop the product. They have a clean design that makes it easy to use and quick to set up.
ProsRecently they have been adding more and more features. Their membership management is at the core, but they have updated the calendar, forms, and giving to be better and more comprehensive within the last year. They have some really powerful features like workflows which allows you to automate some key processes and notifications.
ConsThere are a few features I wish they had, but one overall theme is how I wish that they integrated more closely with their partner software. The company that owns Shelbynext has been blending their different Saas products but there is still a bit of a wall that keeps the integrations from being seamless. A good example of this is how there are 4 different ways that you can give via different methods on mobile, but none of those apps have all of the features of memberships, group, forms, calendar, and giving in one product. I think that this will probably be fixed over time.

“I think overall the platform works well, but don't get notified when there is an updated feature.”

OverallHelps keep us organized, but there are limitations
ProsI like the interactions and being able to mass email groups, just wish there was a "sent" feature to show somewhere instead of it being logged as an interaction.
ConsBetter way to organize Groups and customize the Groups finder embed for a website. Also if when they sign up, you can choose who that gets emailed too, because we have Groups leaders who don't work in the office and we would rather filter that through our administrators rather than the leaders. It would be nice to still show who the leader is when they view the finder online, but have another custom field for who that sign up goes to. The calendar embed feature would be nice if we could customize that more as well.

“ShelbyNext Usage”

ProsIt is quick and easy on most things. Calendar entry is fast. Looking up names is fast. However, you should not have to look at ALL NAMES, even the people who have moved on.
ConsThe Calendar - it is easy to add new things, but could use some more sorting, editing options. It would be nice to select optional dates for events. At the present time, if you put an event to happen every week, but would like to skip a week or two, you cannot do that in the initial entry. We have contacted about this many times. They seem to ignore calendar fixes! Also, we need to be able to print a calendar list that includes dates, times and room numbers. Again, we have asked several times to no avail.

“Best so far”

OverallOverall, it's the best software I've used for churches.
ProsI love the ease of making workflows to send automatic emails. I also like the layout and user interface.
ConsChild Checkin has been a nightmare getting the software to work with the printer. Also, mobile checkin for attendees is so cumbersome to use, no one will use it, especially our older folks. It takes 7 steps per person to checkin. That is a lot to remember. I wish it was more like taking attendance for groups.

ProsI love that you can access the software via the internet at anytime instead of having to be on the church's network. The phone app is awesome and we truly love it as a staff. Additionally, I really like the new interactions for ministering to our members.

“Church Shelby Upgrade”

OverallShelbyNext was a great fit for our membership size. It has made accessing and placing members in groups much easier to manage.
ProsIt is much easier to access data across the system. I can go to a member page and access groups or attendance in a click and then back to the member's page.
ConsThe name-tag system is very slow. We have check in for our Nursery Department. The system is designed to enter a child in attendance and print a name tag. Name tags take much too long to print out and we have found that we have to send parents on and deliver name tags later.

“After 20 or more years with Shelby we may be ready to move on”

OverallWe've been with Shelby for a couple decades as a church organization. We were thrilled when ShelbyNext came out, and we made the switch from our server-based V5 to their cloud-based ShelbyNext platform. But consistent problems along the way and a frustrating experience with customer service has us considering making a switch.
ProsCustomizable data fields, it was a relatively easy switch from V5,
ConsNo easy way to make an online version of the database available to members, the check-in system is a mess, (nametags are not customizable, the names are quite small, reporting after a Sunday hasn't yet worked for us), customer service for this module of ShelbyNext has been unresponsive and unhelpful.

“The most flexible ChMS anywhere”

OverallDo your homework. If you have the right staff and environment in place, Arena is an amazing option. HDC has benefitted immensely from Arena and has never looked back or second guessed our decision.
ProsWe did an exhaustive search of church management systems and came to the conclusion that for our church, Arena was the best choice. You can read our research here: http://tinyurl.com/chmsresearch Arena provides a customizable solution that will flex to meet your ministry needs and goals. It offers an excellent, easy to use interface and provides powerful tools to keep your staff on task, your people plugged in, and your church moving in the right direction. Our pastors use Arena to track confidential comments, to find the best location to launch new campuses, and to keep track of thousands of people and programs. Arena offers the most options for children's check-in, with one official solution and three church-developed solutions providing check-in that meets almost every style and desire. Arena offers a development program provides ways for your church to develop modules and applications that meet your exact needs. Overall, we love Arena and we made the right choice.
ConsArena is not for a church that isn't clear on what they want to do or that does not have IT staff. The best Arena implementations are ones where the church has a clear leader in charge of the project, and has solid direction from the staff of where they want to go. Having a developer on staff (or a volunteer) is not necessary, but makes arena even more customizable and flexible.

“An almost-there product”

OverallWe used the locally hosted version of Shelby for over almost two decades and made the switch to the hosted version after evaluating other options. It's a good product for membership tracking, but not yet a great product.
ProsBasic functions in ShelbyNext Membership are easy to use and the software is responsive. It's custom made for churches and a church of our size (~800 people) seems a good fit for how they have the software organized.
ConsShelbyNext Membership needs to be more customizable, especially with its reporting. Personalizing reports is practically non-existent and adding this one feature would GREATLY enhance its usability. The lack of a reporting module severely limits our ability to use this to its fullest.

“Good product on its way to being great”

OverallI feel like we came in on the newer end of the software upgrade and have had to work through a lot of changes and upgrades. That being said, I do feel that the company is always listening to its users and strive to continue to upgrade, making this the best software out there!
ProsThe web accessibility and easy of use are a big improvement from the v.5 version of Shelby. There are also so many ways to use and implement this software. It is a one stop shop.
ConsThere are a few things this upgrade did not bring over from the older version which are highly missed.

“Frustration”

OverallThe check in system has made a huge difference but there has been some frustration with it as well.
ProsThe ease of using check-in on a Sunday when everything works properly.
ConsThe fact that I can't use information as I would like. The aggregate system doesn't give me what I need. I want to look at attendance during the week as a whole but it won't combine the groups to do that. Well not easily anyway. I want to add names to the group once that will update both services and it won't do that either or at least not with my permission level. Sometimes our search engine for names that we know are in the system doesn't work.

“I greatly enjoy using Shelby Next Membership. It is a wonderful, user-friendly program!”

OverallIt helps us as maintain our records of members and non-members in a most efficient way.
ProsI have been told by the people at Shelby that it is a very literal program. Once I fully understood that it has made using Shelby Next Membership so much more effective. I am learning to think like Shelby and it is helping me use all of the tools Shelby provides in a way that is beneficial to the goals we have for the program.
ConsI am not pleased with the photo capabilities of Shelby Next Membership. Shelby V5 had better capabilities - providing a way to add two types of photos to each person's record.

“ShelbyNext for small churches is perfect”

OverallThe support has always been outstanding -- every individual I've worked with is friendly and super helpful. And the crowdsourced support (online) gets good answers to your questions too. The software is easy to use -- only a few things I needed to train the secretary to use it effectively. The most complex part is maintaining groups using automated rules (like the church directory, or recent attenders, recent givers, etc.)
ProsSaaS (hosted in the cloud), smart phone App available, easy to train church staff, strong functionality and great support
ConsWhen we went live (I haven't had a chance to check lately) there were a few limitations: 1) the integration with ShelbyNext Financials for Giving, 2) user-friendliness/ease of doing sunday school check-in or congregation attendance, 3) cost of connecting with and using on-line giving service.

“ShelbyNext | Membership”

OverallIt has made taking attendance and looking up attendance records very fast and efficient.
ProsIt's fairly user friendly. If you're not trained on the system and looking for a specific feature, you can find it fairly quickly with trial by error, and discover some other neat features along the way.
ConsSometimes the calendaring glitches, and gives the notification that your additions and changes have been made, but when you look back at the same event, it hasn't changed, or it created 2 of the same event.

“Shelby next review”

OverallThere are a lot of great things about the ShelbyNext membership software but unfortunately there are still quite a few things that need to be worked out.
ProsWhen there are no glitches I love the forms and the calendar side of shelby next .
ConsThe poor customer service. I rarely ever receive any feedback after I have either made a phone call or emailed. It also appears that they are still working out a lot of glitches and it's very frustrating when you depend on a software and it doesn't work properly at least 99% of the time.

“ShelbyNext: A "love/hate" relationship”

OverallIt seems that ShelbyNext is somewhat a step backwards from V.5.
ProsLike the Check-In, but it's frustrating not to be able to customize font sizes or to choose to print only first names. There is much white space on the name tags but it's not possible to make the name larger. I also like being able to search for a name by putting in only part of the name, either first or last, or both. I, personally, have had pretty positive experiences with support, but others in my organization have had rude responses.
ConsSeveral things: It's not possible to add an entire family at one time. Instead, each person must be added & then linked as a family which is more time-consuming. When running reports, inactive people show up even if "active" is selected. Also, when running reports, the only choices are labels or a list with no addresses, no phone numbers, etc., unless it's exported as a CSV file. When one does that, every field in the record is exported & then needs to be weeded out if not needed in the report data. When searching for an individual, one can enter just a part of the name, but what comes up doesn't always match what's been entered. Even when a match does show, it's not always the top choice.

“ShelbyNext is user friendly”

OverallSo far, haven't used it enough to come up with a good list, but it's working out well for me.
ProsRan labels for the first time, and it was so much easier than old Shelby. Much more trimmed down in the amount of stuff retained. I am still learning....so I'm not the best one to go into too many details. Running records seems to be easier, as the old system was SO difficult! I like being able to see the various groups and checking off the ones I need to access and print.
ConsCan't put in a birthdate for someone unless you know the year born (automatically plugs in the current year). Have to use the mouse more. I though looking up a record by name was a little easier with the old system. I may be wrong but I'm hesitant about putting in any visitor records because I know we have limited names we can store in ShelbyNext without being charged extra. But it DOES help me keep the system "cleaner" than the old one, as names tended to hang around too long. In attendance-taking...I don't like to have to state the date each time I check off an attendance roll. Would be nice to put the date in once and have it apply to all the rolls I'm doing attendance on.
