August 23, 2023 5.0 Pros OpenAsset has been a great tool to centralize our project photography, employee photography, and brand assets. The ability to easily upload, label, and then subsequently search has been a game changer. Also--the Indesign plugin is A+. Gone are the days of all those broken links! Cons Overall, we've had a great experience. The one area I would love to see is a more user-directed template for creating project pages/resumes. " July 1, 2019 4.0 I use Open Asset daily to weekly for my job. Again I have seen improvements in the 3 or so years we have been using it, they come often and only strengthen the product. Im excited to see more recognition technology being implemented that will help in tracking down similar images and more. Pros The customer service and upgrades are a great part of the Open Asset system. You can customize to your hearts desire with a steady stream of new features always on the horizon that improve things and get you excited about what's coming next. The cross platform functionality with the Adobe suite is also a lovely touch. Cons Most of my concerns have been addressed by the Open Asset team and are already in development for future editions. VR Verified Reviewer Database Administrator Civil Engineering Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Best Dam Software I've seen" March 26, 2019 4.0 We had an archaic image database that didn't allow anyone but marketing to be able to pull down any image size but thumbnails. Now anyone in the firm can get images and be able to use them in Word, PowerPoint, or InDesign without losing resolution and turn out a great product. In a pinch a project manager can create a PowerPoint presentation of project images without waiting for marketing to help them. Pros The ease of the migration of our images and the great customer service was awesome. They are continually updating/upgrading the product to be more intuitive, helpful, and keep up with the technology market. For instance, AI, they've built into the product intuitive searching for similar images. Fantastic feature! Cons A couple of the admin features takes a little longer to navigate when you have a large group of users. Have requested a couple of enhancements which they are looking at. The support page is helpful but it does not explain every function and feature. Pros I love that I can store an unlimited number of images on the cloud and share them anywhere with my company. Cons I like least that 1. Albums default to private and 2. They have worked with us every step of the way to meet our specific needs. They keep adding new features that make the software even more useful. Pros OpenAsset solved our issue of making project photography easily searchable and accessible by all of our staff across four offices. The InDesign plugin was especially helpful for our marketing team productivity. Cons It took us many months to get the software customized to our liking and uploaded with content. Training for users is a must because OpenAsset has so much depth to it that even seasoned users might not be aware of all the features available. IT doesn't get very many help desk tickets Pros There are a lot we (responses from staff) like most about this software. The features are always being added, the software is easy to use the support is A+ and it integrates with other products. Cons The add'l cost for storage as it wasn't explained that I would have this so it wasn't budgeted. Everyone I have encountered at OpenAsset has been brilliant. Pros There is no comparable software for image use that I am aware of - it is a great product for our industry, and used throughout our business. It is incredibly user friendly (compared to some document management systems, for instance) and functionality is great. Cons From our experience, some of the "improvements" in the last few years have actually hindered functionality for the way we work. March 20, 2019 5.0 Our company takes advantage of the OpenAsset / Vision connector. The API data is then used by our website CMS. It eliminates a lot of duplication of work which is appreciated by our small team. Pros I love how the file size structure eliminates the need for multiple copies of images on our server. The sizes we need (even custom sizes defined by us) are all in one place and can be generate on the fly. Cons A few features that we would like to have are only available in the Cloud version... we use the on-premises version. Customer support has always been fast, personal and helpful. Pros OpenAsset provides BDP with a platform for all employees to access, whether images, PDFs or project information. Easy to manage and for employees to find their way around. Cons Not a lot of negatives to find, but if any issues arise, customer support has always been prompt and helpful. All of our install photos are stored here and they can be used in a number of ways for marketing. Pros The capacity and function. You can create PPT or PDF documents, label your photos, save PDF documents, and much much more. It responds quickly so you can create something fast when you need it like a PPT or document to send to your client. You can also just download photos to put into email and you can also save files in various sizes and formats for multiple presentation options. You can also choose a photo and that will prompt other photos similar to what you are looking at so there are multiple ways that you can search and produce a carousel of photos. Excellent for companies that need marketing resources where all employees can access individually. Very user friendly. Cons Nothing that I can think of at this time. OA has allowed us to pull our entire company catalog into one place for everyone to have immediate access to. The training and customer service has been fantastic and it's really been a game changer for our marketing staff. Pros Having all our catalog of imagery at our fingertips is a huge efficiency. The connection to Deltek Vision is also amazing to have all the information in one software program. The tagging is a fantastic feature and there are so many more things the software does that we haven't even implemented. Cons Not a huge fan of the process of drag and drop into Indesign. Seems like there can be a better way of doing it but that's not a major issue. I also wish that it talked to Vision in addition to receiving information from Vision. The ability to tag content to enable a better search has helped tremendously. Pros The ability to share content instantaneously across a large company is crucial to the success of our marketing team. Open Asset is the perfect solution to this challenge. Cons I feel that the current platform is limited to only sharing images/video currently. We have the growing need to have a solution to share other marketing content (presentations, written proposal narratives, client quotes, etc.). I see the potential of the tool and have a great experience working with the Open Asset team to solve our needs. The ability to link directly into InDesign has completely changed our workflow. Assigning tags to pictures lets you search through images by description which is a terrific capability for anyone working with images a lot. Saving the same image at different file sizes and resolution that can be linked to many other programs is also a huge time saver. Cons Open asset can feel like a clunky database while searching and filing images. The amount of capabilities it has makes it more complicated to use if you’re looking for a simple photo library. Easy to setup and organize images, documents, resources. Great search functionality and ability to use asset links in other applications Cons Can be a lot to setup and maintainenance, like any library or digital repository. Deltek connector is essential. Cons Supported formats could show a better understanding of digital assets relative to the A/E profession. Support for textures, scripts, BIM families, and other file formats would make this an even more valuable tool for the company. Right now it is primarily a marketing tool when it could service a much wider usergroup.
