### "High learning curve, little support, not sure it's worth the dollar"

January 16, 2018

3.0

More marketing automation usability than with our original software.

Pros

It definitely brings more flexibility and functionality to slice and dice your email data into sophisticated campaigns more so than what cheaper solutions offer.

Cons

The UI is stuck in 2005, and there's nothing with conventional naming (i.e. if you want to duplicate something, you need to "clone" it). The learning curve is high; so high, it's recommended one person on your team be "Marketo Certified." Even the back-end integration is a pain; but it's all for the features to help provide a better marketing experience to your customers.

### "Very customizable ABM marketing software"

January 19, 2018

4.0

Omnichannel marketing with very good data views.

Pros

Multiple channels for marketing available and directly integratabtle with down stream DSPs. Love this feature. Bulk extract is very useful for us to run Power BI on the data and build analytical models. Have also implemented Maroon-ai's predictive lead scoring algos on top of marketo instance for building a comprehensive scoring models for all inbound leads

Cons

Implementation time is very high and also a cost to consider. Up skilling and training is required for effectively implementing. Workflows for campaigns are hard to make operational

### "Intuitive and robust tool for email and campaigns"

April 26, 2022

5.0

Easy, robust tool for creating campaigns, sending emails, managing contacts.

Pros

I find Marketo very intuitive, the way campaigns need to be formatting makes a lot of sense to me so it was easy and fast for me to pick up.

Cons

I feel like it logs me out really quickly, so if I go and do another task I have to log back in to finish what I was working on. Not the worst, but can be a little annoying sometimes.

### "Decent marketing automation tool with lead nurturing"

January 16, 2019

3.0

Pros

Proper workflows can be set for each type (or 'quality score' level) of leads to nurture them as required.

Cons

Landing page design is still lagging from industry standards. They can have better templates or offer easier customization.

### "Extremely sophisticated but cumbersome "

July 11, 2018

5.0

Pros

Marketo is by far one of the most advanced marketing automation systems out there. They have a wide range of functionalities that allow you to dive deeper into personalization, reporting, and automation.

Cons

With so many things it is able to do, Marketo can be very tricky to learn. They have a very specific workflow of how to do things and call them. It can be challenging at the beginning to learn exactly how to do everything. Free support is limited. I find the online commjunity to be very helpful. Chances are problems you have are ones others have gone through as well.

### "Pros and Cons"

November 12, 2015

3.5

Pros

Once optimized, Marketo is good for rapid-fire content creation (emails, landing pages, and campaigns) that is tailored and optimized for digital marketing experiences. It can collect a broad range of data out-of-the-box which provides significant advantages compared to competitors.

Cons

Marketo's ability to scale, technically, can be a limiting factor at times. The major dependencies are lead database size, web traffic volume, and integration with the CRM. At the point of 750k+ leads, Marketo becomes slow to work with. At the point of 10k page visits/day, queues start to pop up on logging web activity. When lots of leads are begin updated in Marketo and through the CRM, the back-and-forth usage of API calls (by which Marketo communicates with CRMs) starts to max out, and you have to really optimize the setup in order to have timely communication between Marketo and the CRM.

### "Powerful but not user friendly"

July 14, 2022

3.0

Pros

It allowed the agency to have power to have multiple clients in the system without paying a crazy amount for each one.

Cons

Very difficult to set up, very unfriendly UX, ROI isn't seen until 6 months in.

### "Marketo: the gold standard in Marketing Automation"

October 8, 2019

5.0

Awesome. Great for lead nurture, lead scoring, email, forms, and landing pages.

Pros

It's very powerful. They've thought through so many use cases and because of the way it's built to sky really is the limit. If you can think of a campaign you can likely build it in Marketo.

Cons

The UI is a bit clunky and dated. The new Sky interface looks nice, but the tree structure can still make ti feel a bit messy.

### "Comprehensive marketing automation platform"

January 2, 2019

4.0

Pros

We're able to get a lot of data out of Marketo AND it's correctly attributed to the proper contacts and accounts. The challenge we've had in the past was that many of our records were "duplicates" according to our CRM, and Marketo eliminates that. It also simplifies many of the tasks we were doing via multiple tools, and condenses them into one unified platform

Cons

Because there are so many complex options Marketo has a bit steeper learning curve than many of the tools we've used before. It takes some getting used to, and some work-arounds leave a bit to be desired.

Support takes a long time to respond, and it has some issues with core functionality which can be improved.

### "Needs a facelift"

October 15, 2019

4.0

Marketo has been frustrating to use after using other marketing automation tools on the market.

Pros

Marketo is a very powerful marketing automation tool that can serve many different business problems.

Cons

The software is just plain hard to use and takes a lot of ramp-up time in order to be successful, especially as compared to other marketing automation tools on the market today.

### "Powerful, but challenging to use"

January 4, 2019

4.0

Pros

There were many features that could be useful and the software allows a lot of flexibility in how you design campaigns and programs.

Cons

Inconsistent with syncing to Salesforce, sometimes syncs would take much longer than expected, or a certain field would fail to sync despite being set up properly. It was difficult to get help from their support team, and they were rarely able to come up with a solution.

### "Great tool at its core"

June 26, 2018

4.0

Pros

I like that I can typically do anything I set out to do using Marketo. I rarely find myself saying "I can't do that with Marketo"

Cons

While you can do most everything related to marketing automation, the user interface sometimes requires extra steps/work to get where you need to go.

### "Marketo Review"

December 5, 2016

3.0

The engagement program of the tool is great to work with. It moves potential customers through the funnel really well. But, Marketo tries to gouge you for advanced reporting, etc. The basic reporting is ok, but won't tell you all that much if you want to dig deeper. Therefore, you have to buy more. Also the documentation isn't that great and I have to find other sources to help accomplish things inside Marketo. Building landing pages isn't very intuitive either.

Pros

Engagement program works well. Getting a simple engagement program up and running isn't difficult. Cloning programs so that you don't have to rebuild another one is great. Marketo community is very supportive.

Cons

Building landing pages. Having to pay a lot more money to add additional functionality that is built into other platforms. Basic reporting isn't all that great.

### "I love Marketo as an Marketing Automation Tool"

October 17, 2018

5.0

It has been great

Pros

How easy it is to automate your marketing campaigns and programs, there's nothing you can't do with Marketo.

Cons

I love Marketo but what I like the least would be their tech support, they take a long time to answer and once they do they don't solve anything

### "Taking My Teams Marketing to a New Level"

March 7, 2018

5.0

Super fast analytics dashboard that is helpful in providing dynamic trends data. With the speed of this software, teams are able to truly optimize their marketing channels and see tangible results.

Pros

This software is easy to use and an amazing option for allowing teams to view insights about trends and behavior. The dashboard is user-friendly and offers opportunities to really delve into crucial KPIs. Not only does this increase overall efficiency, but it is also an affordable option.

Cons

I think that having a more structured educational resource available would help support teams become certified with this software.

### "Marketo is recommended for lead generation"

June 8, 2017

5.0

Improved my lead nurturing activities. I no longer use spreadsheets to track leads. Marketo nicely logs all activities.

Pros

Marketo is a complex lead generation software but if configured correctly it can do magic and automate your marketing like no other. Since using Marketo we experienced increase in sales revenues and 50% increase in lead conversion. Marketo also nicely integrates with Salesforce and you can see where your leads are in their lifecycle.

Cons

There is a learning curve to it. Also getting certified in Marketo has more complex than before. Lead nurturing, streams, and center of excellence can be hard to set up.

### "Easiest, most complete marketing automation platform I've used"

December 20, 2017

5.0

Pros

You can do almost anything you want. You can easily do the basics or you can build very intricate fine-tuned campaigns to support all your needs. Other platforms may be easier to do smaller things, but can't scale the way Marketo can. Content recommendation per unique user is changing the game of integrating with websites.

Cons

Reporting and analytics can sometimes be a bear -- but they've made strides to improve this already, and more to come.

### "Decent Marketing Automation for LARGE Teams"

July 30, 2019

4.0

Pros

Once you get the hang of everything, tracking engagement programs (at each stage) is impressive. Real-time personalization is super valuable feature, which makes me bump my rating from 3/5 to 4/5.

Cons

There is a MAJOR learning curve. It took 2-3 people to set it up, and it wasn't a smooth process at all. It was an expensive and time-consuming process to set it up. Plus, the email builder was fairly basic.

### "Not Easy to Use"

November 26, 2018

I like how powerful it is for our global, $1B size company

Cons

### "Not beautiful, but necessary"

November 16, 2016

4.0

I used Marketo as a lead generation manager at the first startup (15 person company) I worked at. I was the primary tool evaluator, and chose it over Pardot and Hubspot, because our focus was on outbound emailing (Hubspot is not) and we needed a high level of customizability/flexibility (2 years ago I found that Pardot was not flexible enough). Marketo has its own language and way of doing things. It really required a full training to get up and running, but once I did that I found it straightforward to use. The interface is clunky and not beautiful, but the functionality is really high. The highest risk with using Marketo is not keeping careful track of potentially conflicting programs. Staying organized and consistent is REALLY important. Overall, I like it and everything it could do, but similar to other "older" SaaS tools, I really wish they would overhaul their interface/UX to make it more streamlined and modern.

Pros

Super flexible in what you can accomplish

Cons

Clunky, un-intuitive

### "Email marketing with benefits"

June 7, 2019

4.0

Pros

It simplified our email marketing campaign and provided advanced options for landing pages which simplified my processes.

Cons

There are still some features I am getting used to, when we first evaluated the product it seemed we could roll up a few different softwares into Marketo. So far we have only been able to roll up 2 or them but working on the third.
