### "Marketo is one of the standards of marketing automation software. "

December 14, 2017

4.0

We can integrate easily with salesforce.com data and send out loads of automated messages, all following different nurturing tracks.

Pros

It has a lot of features. Once you get up and running with it, you can do almost anything. It does require learning the marketo vernacular (for flows and things)

### "Marketo Marketing Software"

February 6, 2018

3.0

Pros

Great at email lead nurturing, lead scoring, and reporting. The Marketo community is great. Marketo Certification will go a long way.

Cons

Customer support is not great. If you get the basic packge, it only offers online support via chat or email. You are paying all of this money to wait on their time to fix an problem you need fixed ASAP

### "Marketing with Marketo"

June 19, 2018

5.0

Pros

For guys in demand gen, Marketo is the tool you need. Whether you're creating gated landing pages, or syncing anything to your CRM system and showing those lead activity's, you can easily create all of these campaigns within Marketo to generate MQL and SQls.

Cons

I just think the UI needs an update. It's tough to find things at times even with folders. Essentially the search function is lacking. I also wish there was a visual visio-like workflow creator.

### "great integrated marketing automation platform"

January 30, 2018

5.0

Pros

to be honest, i kind of like their interface even though it looks like command prompt. it's the same reason i like the craigslist interface

Cons

takes a long time to get up and running and acclimated to this tool. i would say ease of use is 2 levels below hubspot

### "Operationally and Organizationally Powerful"

December 13, 2016

4.0

Measuring movement and success through specific programs is very helpful. On a very basic level, looking at acquisition program and a lead source is very helpful. We have been able to develop much better reporting for our executives and show them ROI from the Marketing team. From an operational standpoint, the organization is so much better than it has been in the past. It's easy to know where to pull data from and things can get done much quicker with templates.

Pros

Everything can be organized the way that works for our team. There are very few limits to the way we can set up programs and we are able to customize fields, analytics, etc to tell us whatever it is we need to know. We've used other systems (like HubSpot) and they are not nearly as flexible. I also LOVE the Marketo Community. We've learned a lot from our peers in different discussions.

Cons

Sometimes there are too many options and not enough guidance on best practices. Marketo has documentation on different products, but they don't tell me WHY I might want to use a specific feature, just how I would go about doing so.

### "We use this at my internship"

January 19, 2019

4.0

Pros

It's great when sending one email or newsletter to the masses. This was part of my job, preparing a newsletter to send to our alumni and I worked in Marketo a lot.

Cons

I don't know if this was office protocal but I had to stuy a 100+ page powerpoint on how to use Marketo. It is not something you can hop on and learn, it's kind of complex. Not only that, the website kept bugging out form sometimes.

### "Good general functionality, nothing fancy"

February 13, 2018

4.0

One thing that is appreciated is they are continuing to build the platform, especially working on integrations and new features. Seems to be a solid company, and I would have confidence recommending this product to anyone assuming they match functional needs accurately.

Pros

It can handle a good volume of data and multiple campaigns, and provides the functionality we needed. Specifically like the Salesforce integration, although I've heard it is slower integrating with other platforms..

Cons

A little lax on reporting and metrics, we had to purchase additional software for some analysis. It also "feels" a bit heavy from a price standpoint compared to some lesser known platforms, but I haven't done a true side-by-side comparison.

### "Very powerful marketing automation but poor UI"

May 17, 2016

4.0

Pros

Marketo is designed to manage all of the content for your business, including email marketing, blog posts, lead gen pages, and more. It is very powerful with our marketing team only using less than half of the available features. Excellent integration with Salesforce allows for tight coordination with sales team.

Cons

Poor UI definitely reduces uptake within our company. Basically only the users who have gone through a multi-day on-site training course are able to use Marketo proficiently, and almost no one has been able to learn from google/support docs. While it is powerful, the UI is a problem. Also limited management of social media accounts.

### "It makes marketing fun!"

December 10, 2017

5.0

Pros

Marketo is easy to use, quick to setup and an all around amazing tool. It does everything my company needs. The interface is very easy to use even when setting up complex programs. There is a logic to how you go about things that follow the flow of most campaign design processes while helping ensure that you are covering all aspects of the campaign needed.

Cons

There is a bit of a learning curve for users as well as administrators. There are plenty of resources online to help but one should not expect to load Marketo into your process and immediately log in and start building out complex programs.

### "Our company LOVES Marketo. It touches almost everything we do."

March 8, 2018

5.0

Marketing and Sales Alignment, Marketing Activity Automation, Campaign Tracking, Email Cadencing... and more

Pros

The versatility - we use it for lead scoring, nurture campaigns, landing page and performance tracking, sales alerts, and so much more.

Cons

Again - because it's such an integral part of our business there's really not much I don't like. Perhaps it could be slightly more intuitive right off the bat, but even then, with a little training, it's pretty straightforward.

### "Excellent reporting dashboards"

March 5, 2018

Pros

Easy to create, save and filter your marketing data for analysis and tracking historical trend data.

Cons

Accuracy with integrations seems to be off at points if numbers or reports are pulled soon after results come in.

### " A marketing automation platform that helps businesses engage with their customers and prospects."

February 28, 2023

4.0

is a powerful marketing automation platform with many useful features. However, it may not be the best fit for everyone, especially those who are new to marketing automation or have a limited budget.

Pros

It can automate many different aspects of your marketing campaigns, from lead generation to lead nurturing, and even lead scoring. The platform is very flexible, so you can customize it to your specific needs. You can create your own campaigns, workflows, and email templates, or use pre-built templates and workflows provided by Marketo.

Cons

Can be overwhelming for new users. The platform has a steep learning curve and can take some time to get used to. It may require some technical knowledge to fully utilize all of its features. The platform can be expensive, especially for small businesses or startups. The pricing can be prohibitive for those on a tight budget.

### "Marketo bridges every gap in the marketing-sales relationship"

December 16, 2017

5.0

Pros

Marketo makes it easy to track leads and accelerate leads to wins as a tool for content creation. In addition to keeping track of each prospect's place in the sales process, marketo is great for creating a database of all collateral for sales to access via marketo links and sending targeted emails to specific prospects across industry, size, location, etc.

Cons

The interface is difficult to use at first. The fact that it's so hard to understand limits users to using only the few features that they are aware of. You'll really need detailed tutorials to get your money's worth with this product.

### "Robust but very difficult to learn"

May 13, 2020

5.0

I am still learning even after completing the Marketo Certification. It takes time but I believe it's the most robust marketing automation system available.

Pros

Marketo is a very robust marketing automation tool for email campaigns. It's great for targeting segments for mass send campaigns and then reporting back on the success of the email send.

Cons

While it's extremely robust, it's very difficult to learn. It's a complicated system and requires a lot of time in the software to become truly effective. I occasionally have issues with email formatting and these problems are very hard to fix.

October 22, 2022

Cons

The interface is not friendly and it's hard to create a landing page.

### "Big Marketo fan here - used it at last company and made sure to bring it to my new company."

December 19, 2019

5.0

Pros

Once you understand how to use the tool, it makes automation pretty easy. It also integrates very easily with Salesforce, and our employee benefits tool (makes it easy to manage internal comms now!).

Cons

You have to really be mindful of all of the programs you have running so campaigns don't overlap or counteract eachother. It also has a pretty steep learning curve.

Reason for choosing Marketo Engage

My experience with Marketo in the past had been a good one.

### "Great Lead Nurturing Tool"

March 13, 2018

4.0

Pros

Marketo was built for lead nurturing, and it does that well. The integration with Salesforce is pretty robust.

Cons

The tool leaves a little to be desired when it comes to email marketing, but they have made improvements in recent years (for example, a better analytics dashboard.)

### "Makes prospecting much easier as lead scoring tells me who is a marketing qualified lead"

June 14, 2018

4.0

Pros

It is great as a sales rep to be able to see what each prospect has done on our site and their digital footprint with our company as a whole.

Cons

The tool itself is very complex and difficult to use if you aren't a Marketo trained marketer. Making Marketo more sales oriented would make it much more beneficial for teams outside marketing to use.

### "Fantastic product that gets the job done"

January 11, 2016

4.5

Pros

Marketo is a very easy to use platform. With no prior marketing automation experience, I was able to master the functionality of the product by reading the documentation and reaching out to the members of the Marketo community. The level of customization you can build into Marketo allows me to scale the marketing efforts of our team from a systems standpoint, whether it be workflows (smart campaigns), building email and landing page assets, or integrating with other Launchpoint vendors or the Marketo API, I am able to use Marketo to implement scalable solutions to my company's automation needs.

Cons

The integration with SFDC Custom Objects is great, but not complete in my opinion. For companies that use a lot of Salesforce custom objects and want to utilize the data on those objects for marketing campaigns, expect to need some assistance if you aren't a developer. The Analytics section of Marketo (not speaking to RCE here) is very much "out of the box" reporting that doesn't allow for too much customization. Typically, I have to pull reports into Excel for further analysis. This is why it's extremely important for first-time Marketo customers to set up a proper naming convention to make reporting a bit easier in Marketo and for circumstances when you need to pull data into Excel.
