Sure you could use Marketo to blast out emails but it's so much more useful than that. Marketo lets you track so many actions that your leads take and it's also fairly simple to use. The customer support is also great and if you run into an issue or problem, you can almost always find an answer in the Community.

Pros

As a consultant I've worked in many instances of Marketo and seen a lot of different types of problems being solved with great business and tactical results. From honing and optimizing the lead lifecycle (closing the gap between marketing and sales, providing insight to sales on lead activity and lifecycle), to advanced nurtures that are truly responsive in nature (not drip campaigns!) that engage at a deep level and pull people through the buying cycle faster, plus amazing increases in team efficiencies and marketing program optimizations. The sky is the limit with Marketo and the rewards are just as high.

Cons

Basic Reporting / Analytics could be more flexible.

Once you get the hang of it, everything in Marketo is really easy. There is one set of principles to learn, and everything works that way, from sending an email blast to setting up advanced reporting. The integration with Salesforce is very strong, it provides many opportunities for insight and reporting and it is very helpful in closing the gap between marketing and sales. I have used other Marketing Automation platforms and was impressed by how streamlined Marketo's solutions are, compared to its competitor's. It is true that there is a learning curve, but that is true of any advanced system.

When I was introduced to Marketo I was very familiar with Hubspot and was expecting the same ease of use. There are definitely capabilities that Marketo has vs Hubspot but there are also a lot of areas where Marketo is lacking.

Reporting feature of Marketo is strong

There are too many steps involved sometimes to a simple process.

We originally started using Eloqua (2 years ago). Unfortunately, we ended up finding out that a few of our use cases weren't supported very well in Eloqua at the time. We then launched both Marketo and Salesforce about a year ago. What we prefer about Marketo is that it is constantly evolving and improving: over the last year they have added a number of additional features that make it even more of an irreplaceable tool for my team. If this app improved reporting latency issues and improved workflow set, I would give it 6 stars!

Pros

It has all of our marketing efforts (other than our blog) in one place. We can track the entire history of a lead, and see which emails they were sent, what links they clicked, what whitepapers they downloaded, etc. Creating tailored campaigns is much easier now.

Cons

It was a little overwhelming to learn at first given all the functionality within the product. However, the training documents really helped. Once you get the hang of it, Marketo is really easy to utilize.

Pros

We just started using the latest version of Marketo, and the new features are wonderful. I love the nurturing campaigns and how easy it is to setup. The modeler is great to see how people are moving through the sales cycle.

Cons

Marketo does not integrate with our CRM system, Bullhorn. This limits some of the functionality that we have; however, we have overcome that by doing custom reports and imports into Marketo and using the Smart Campaigns to process information.

Great Martech tool for mass distribution of emails, forms and landing pages. Very effective and easy to use. No wonder so many companies go to this product for marketing technology and automation. It's very effective and user friendly.

Cons

A little bit of a learning curve in the beginning but that's about it. There's a lot to know and to do but that's to be expected with any advanced modern software; no surprise there.

This platform has proven to be a viable source of referral traffic and qualified leads. If you're looking to reach a wider audience and get invaluable data on your personas, it's worth the investment (especially over Paid Search).

Pros

Marketo is a well integrated product for a company that wants to run all marketing campaigns through their own team. The menu structure isn't as clean as others I've seen, but once you get used to the system it's fairly easy to navigate.

Cons

I dislike having building programs, campaigns, sub folders, sub programs and trying to keep the system clean enough to find everything. The search function is not universal and doesn't always provide the results you need.

Pros

The customer service team is top-notch and there is a robust set of features for marketers, salespeople and other users. From workflows and emails to landing pages, forms and contact management, you can pretty much do it all.

Cons

Definitely not a good UX/UI, especially for new users. I much prefer the experience of alternative solutions like HubSpot. That being said, if you don't mind the UX/UI, it's a solid option.

Pros

Marketo has been helpful in providing a single, one-stop shop for our marketing database of contacts, email campaign management, social media management, etc. The platform is very user friendly.

Cons

I was hoping with Marketo, determining the ROI of marketing efforts would be automated, but it's still somewhat of a manual process. Marketing ROI is something that's difficult to determine with such a long close process in B2B marketing, so I don't fault the software itself.

Ease of use - Learn to use in an hour. Become a pro in a few weeks. Intuitive UI - it's really hard to make a mistake. Powerful architecture - there's great flexibility in the setup; it has vast capabilities in Marketo and with SFDC and other CRM Vast scalability - send 10 or 10,000 emails, update vast records, create intricate cross-system followups with ease

Cons

More APIs and custom code capabilities would be great.

I have found no other tools that have such vast libraries of learning content Email marketing is by far its strongest feature

Pros

Marketo is one of the better marketing automation software titles I have used. It took me longer than it probably should have to get used to the user interface and processes, but once I was up to speed, I was glad I had spent the time. It made email marketing campaigns easy, and our campaigns got better results than from our previous use of other software.

Cons

I found Marketo a little difficult to learn at first, even though my efforts were well worth it. I would like to see Marketo spend a little more time creating a platform for learning the functionality and UI.
